Awww SHIT!

Xbrax's powers grow stronger when he's in Ohio. Like Thor on Asgard.

Browns to Super Bowl.

I know there's a game Saturday, and my ass will be there.

*Dork correction alert coming*

Actually Thor doesn't get stronger in Asgard, and relative to all those in Asgard is not as powerful as opposed to being on earth with mortals.

Sorry, just bored and had to say.

*Dork counter-point*

In Ragnarok, Valkyrie says "Your sister, she draws her power from Asgard just like you". Going off of that, one could argue he could in theory be more powerful on Asgard. I dunno if that's MCU Canon or not though. Watching the immigrant song scene it's not too far fetched.

I know there's a game Saturday, and my ass will be there.

Xbrax's powers grow stronger when he's in Ohio

That is a GREAT line my man. Still laughing....

He is not as fast as Sheehy-Guiseppi (not many are), but he certainly is more experienced and more polished WR. I expect he will get a shot as a PR as well.If he shows well in Tampa Bay, chances are he will take Sheehy's spot on the 53.

Can you imagine the excitement at First Energy Stadium if he busts off a 360° move on his way to the Dawg Pound?

chances are he will take Sheehy's spot on the 53.

If they had to cut to 53 today, I'm almost positive Sheehy gets cut. He simply doesn't provide enough outside of raw speed (he even bobbled the punt he took to the house). It's more likely that neither make the roster. I'm pulling for Braxton to win that 6th WR spot, but there's a good bit of talent competing for it (Willies, Hyman, Baker, etc.).

I think if they made the call today Willies gets the nod at WR6 and return duties would be handled by D'Ernest Johnson and Dontrell Hilliard.

Sorry Urban, Woody is still my favorite

HS
logamaniac's picture

didnt the bengals return a punt against the redskins too?  its also possible that the redskins punt team sucks and sheehy is also fast but not a good returner.

I'm going to claim total ignorance here in regards to how lucrative/beneficial it is for players to sign these contracts. How much do you get for a 10-day contract?

HS
QuadCitiesBuckeye's picture

It's all about getting a shot at making the 53-man roster, not how much you'll get paid during the evaluation period.

HS
njcro's picture

Understood... but how much does a man get paid for a 10 day tryout? Anything? 30k?

HS
QuadCitiesBuckeye's picture

I'm not positive but I think those players not already under contract just get a weekly per-diem ($1075 for rookies, $1900 for veterans - as of 2018) in addition to room and board.

Would be awesome if he makes the team, but probably going to be tough.

Beckham, Landry, Callaway, and Higgins are all for sure roster locks. Montgomery has also looked really good, and Jaelen Strong has been solid. Maybe the Callaway suspension opens the door for him temporarily.

HS
Triv's picture

I'd go as far as to call Strong a lock too. He's run with the 1s in every team outing (obviously without OBJ and Landry on the field). I think it's clear he's in a tier above Montgomery/Willies/Baker/Hyman/Sheehy and a tier below Higgins/Callaway.

So by my count there's really only one open spot, two for the first 4 games with Callaway out.

Sorry Urban, Woody is still my favorite

HS
BuckeyeRealist13's picture

Calloway's roster spot is open the first four weeks though

HS
BPOSU's picture

Maybe the Callaway suspension opens the door for him temporarily.

...

HS

Wait, what is Callaway suspended for? Did he get in trouble with the law again?

11 Strong.

HS

Violation of the league's substance abuse policy.

HS
Dstacify's picture

Are we talking genuine PEDs or more along the lines of Golden Tate's "you can't take fertility drugs" BS lol? Substance abuse suspensions are quickly becoming a huge joke in the NFL.

11 Strong.

HS
Earle's picture

The assumption is pot.  He got popped for having some in his car a while back, although charges were eventually dropped. Assuming he tested positive then, and after his appeal was denied, his suspension was announced.

HS
Crumbs's picture

The fertility drug is clomid, I have taken it for IVF several times, and it's also used to come down from a cycle of steroids because it boosts natural testosterone so that you don't loose your gains, so it's a Gray area

HS
Dstacify's picture

Golden Tate has also been one of the more outspoken players in the league against players popping PEDs constantly. So either he's a massive hypocrite and completely full of shit or he truly was using the fertility drug for reasons unrelated to football and the doctor mistakenly told him it wasn't a banned substance.

Everyone seems positive he can’t make the roster.. I wonder why they’d bother bringing him in for 10 days if it’s so unlikely

HS

I know this wasn't the primary reason the Browns signed Brax - but we do play a very mobile, scatter shot accurate QB twice a season in Lamar Jackson. Could this signing be motivated by scout team purposes?

If he were eligible for the practice squad, maybe. But an NFL team isn't going to use a roster spot for scout team purposes.

In today's league there has to be a need for Braxton Miller. His quick twitch and ability to accelerate in limited space is needed for offenses who continue to try to get the ball to guys in space. He's still the most elusive college guy I've ever see with the ball in his hands.

HS

Mayfield better play really good. His mouth keeps writing checks so we shall see if his on-field play can cash them. He is the type of player that every fan base would love to see fail (except the team he is playing on, of course).

Good luck 5! One of my favorite Buckeyes playing for my pro team would be awesome! I hope he makes it. Definitely deserves it. Was always very team oriented and selfless during his time at OSU, especially for someone so talented. Interesting to think about where OSU football would be right now without Braxton sticking with us after 2011...maybe no Urban Meyer era.

Maybe at worst case scenario the Browns sign Brax to the Practice Squad, then when Callaway inevitably is traded/released/suspended again Brax can just slip into that roster spot. Ideally, I'd love to see the Browns keep him though,

I notice that Browns tweet about signing Braxton has almost 10,000 likes.  That’s WAY more than any of their other recent tweets.  If they want to bring in Columbus fans — and I know they do — signing on Braxton and other great Buckeyes is a way to go.

HS
Eddie27Zeke15's picture

Love the Buckeyes and love the Browns.  If Braxton earns a spot on the field, I’m all in.  If he only earns it one a spreadsheet, no thanks.

HS
11UrbzAndSpices's picture

They don't have to bring in Columbus fans, Columbus is a Browns market. I remember Beau Bishop saying that when he worked at 10TV, if the Browns game wasn't ran, they would receive dozens/hundreds of phone calls complaining about it. When Bengals games were pre-empted, no one would care.

11Urbz - The Browns already have the Columbus market, 100% Agree. If the Browns want to grow that market, they need to win, the rest will take care of itself.

He may not stick (should IMO) but the Brownshirts needed a quick narrative change. This signing gets the moron QB off the front page of the sports section; at least temporarily. That is until his foolish foot invariably finds his mouth once again.

It was an interview from May which had almost nothing to do with Jones.  I don’t love Baker but this is a non-issue.

That being said, signing Braxton Miller is barely a blip on the radar.  Not gonna change the Baker headlines.

I imagine Miller might be nearing a point where if he’s gonna make it in the NFL, now is the time.  He’s obviously a talent, but I imagine he should be hard at work working on his Skills.  NFL is about talent, but is also as much about football skills at your position.

He’s a personality and is beloved by Ohioans.

But when you getting outside of Ohio and you’re talking NFL, it’s not about brand, or appeal or personality; it’s about skills at your position.

Here’s hoping he can make a mark!

HS
OSUMBuckeye's picture

With Braxton bouncing around, I've wondered if anyone has tried him out as a potential 3rd down back. He was dynamic out of the backfield and has now worked on his receiving skills for a few years. Just seems like it would be worth a shot.

Didn't the Dolphins sign and use Teddy Ginn Jr. mainly in a punt/kickoff return capacity? 10 plus years later, he's a pretty functional receiver in the league.

I'm can't believe how teams don't use better strategy with some of the raw talent that comes into the league. Miller could have benefited being used in the punt/kickoff return role for a few years prior to being used as a receiver. Especially, if you know he just transitioned into the  role a year earlier. So many decent QBs are thrown into a role before they're ready and then destroyed and thrown out. They don't get to learn the game at this level.

It just seems there's little austerity to money and talent in the NFL. It's pretty wasteful on both accounts.

If you die before you die, then you won't die when you die.

HS

IIRC Ginn was a top 10-15 pick..not picking a guy to return punts and kicks that high.
