And now I am just ready for Walt to drop the GameDay poster (Lane has to get a some sort of play on this one) and Ohio State's creative media team to release that Week One Trailer. LETS GOOOO!
InUrbanWeTrust34, I am wondering if you can change your name to "InDayWeTrust34"
Well, Meyer's still an OSU employee...
TBDSNITL: The best damn screen name in the land!
This is a serious question... How do I change it? I would do it in a heartbeat but I can't seem to figure out if that is even possible on the account page.
Go to www.elevenwarriors.com/contact and e-mail them with your issue. I had a problem ( because I'm not real computer literate) I was very surprised when Jason Priestas responded a few days later. He clarified things for me. I was impressed. Give it a try. Hope this helps.
If you have two people that agree on everything, that only means one of them is not thinking at all.
Thanks for this suggestion. I just sent a message... Maybe by August 31st I will be "InDayWeTrust34". Hahaha. Or maybe DayTime or NewDay or something around our new head coach.
Day said that any time anyone has a false start or penalty in practice, that player has to take a lap.
That is very good to hear. We have to have some discipline.
"I find your lack of kalua disturbing" - Darth Lebowski
If those rules had been in place the last few years Isiah Prince would be ready to run marathons by now.
Still wasn't as frequent as JB Shugarts...
Priority #1: Beat Michigan
Yea,lol, if Shugart was on this team he might as well just run 2 laps before practice starts.
MICHIGAN STILL SUCKS
JB "Two Step" Shugarts
I had THE EXACT same line teed up for Shugarts, LOL!
I survived Cooper, and I hate Tai Streets.
To me, it's not Discipline; more like Consequences.
Penalties in a game have consequences for the team, so it's reasonable for there to be consequences for the player involved.
Our honor defend, so we'll fight to the end !
The CJ Saunders story is a nice story, but if he’s taking reps instead of Garrett Wilson, we have a problem.
What’s the more important message: “Work hard and anything is possible.” or “5-star freshman see the field.”
I’ll take two Wilsons over ten Saunders.
You either are, or you're not.
I'm happy with both.
I'd take one Wilson over five Saunders.
They play two different positions though. Saunders is Patriots slot type that is not fast, but finds ways to get open. Wilson is a pure outside receiver. I think Saunders is good for about 20 catches this season.
He talked about Saunders taking reps at a completely different position than Wilson plays. Also, you have to trust that Day will put the best players in positions to help the team.
Nice message to send to our walk-ons. Work your ass off for 5 years but you wont play because dumb star-chasing fans want an unproven player to play ahead of them.
Well this is the wrong take with an obvious lack of not knowing the positions these players play.
To give anything less than your best is to sacrifice the gift.
BREAKING: Local Fan Does Not Know How WR Positions Work. Has Opinion Anyway.
I think the best message is that the best player plays the most. Wilson needs his reps and has the potential but Saunders has earned his opportunities
Both are great stories. I think it is a great testimony to hard work and what the team thinks of CJ. I’m glad they are both on our team. They are both talented but CJ has five years as a Buckeye and obviously his teammates believe he is a leader. I will take their word over any individual here on 11 warriors. I hope they both contribute to the offense and I will be pulling for both young men to excel in this offense. Go Bucks
I'm curbing my enthusiasm on Field as much I can, but also anxious about the amount of hate he is going to get from stupid fans when he doesn't look all pro from the beginning. Day gave very measured responses about Fields and to suggest that he isn't quite there yet means our offense is not close to last year yet in terms of execution.. good sign that our defense is good though? I can only hope...
Worst case is we have both a inconsistent and mediocre offense and defense... Again, I'd like to think otherwise
"I don't apologize for anything. When I make a mistake, I take the blame and go on from there." - Woody Hayes
Watch the game-day thread after the first incompletion. ;)
You Got Barbecue Back There!?!?!?!
There will be a lot of.."Tate, Baldwin and Burrow would have hit that pass.."
I expect zero incomplete passes this season...
But we don't know if Fields isn't at the level Day thinks he can be or just not ready period. There is a huge difference there.
Yeah. His first interception will bring out the Gunner Hoak needs to play comments.
I’m with you but I hope he has a breakout year. I want that joke at Georgia to see what he gave up.
Day said he is "not trying to create a quarterback controversy," and Fields is the starter unless he loses the job, but doesn't want to rule out a change because he wants to see how the season plays out.
I know what he's trying to say here but it still made me chuckle. "There's no controversy, but if you suck you'll lose your job. So no pressure, but also I will bench your ass so fast."
None of his QB comments make much sense unless the QB play hasn't been great ( it may be the case). But Fields didn't separate himself from the guy who has only had 15 practices? Hopefully, that's a GIANT helping of coach speak otherwise that's worrisome..
It’s obvious JF was ahead the whole time, but I think Ryan has a “minimum standard” for what a starting QB must demonstrate, and JF got there last week.
I think Ryan has a “minimum standard” for what a starting QB must demonstrate, and JF got there last week.
Methinks you're right about a minimum standard, and perhaps Day is grudgingly acknowledging that Fields is kind of/sort of there. Maybe Day also realizes that Fields is the only realistic option at this point, both in terms of understanding the offense and having a successful bit of experience playing QB.
Hopefully, Fields continues to grow daily in understanding, competence and confidence.
Day said that Justin separated him self this past week
The mark of excellence, the test of greatness, is consistency
Let us not forget that Simba came out of blocks last year not quite up to the speed of the game. He was missing reads at the line, not recognizing coverages, hurrying a few throws, etc., during the patsy part of the schedule. His early stats reflected his physical talents, his maturity and mental aspects really started to come through about game 5..
How many snaps did Fields take at UGA last year, 75? 100? I think it's going to take 300+ before we really know what his ceiling might be.
North until you smell it, west until you step in it
Assistant coaches Kevin Wilson, Mike Yurcich, Jeff Hafley and possibly Matt Barnes will be in the booth during games, while the other coaches will be down on the field.
Wilson is a no brainer in the booth and even Yurcich....but Hafley being new to the group and Barnes....as a ST C. Realize he’s the assistant DB C too but..idk. Guess we’ll have to see how it plays out.
A lion sleeps in every man, dissatisfaction moves him, complacency keeps him asleep.
Mattison will still be the DC on the field-level, so it should be fine. And Barnes probably wants to see the kickoff/punt coverages from up high, which makes sense.
There is probably another quality control type guy that helps with special teams. Somebody who gets them the play in, etc. I'm sure Barnes provides the feedback from the booth or can call out formation type stuff if adjustments need to be made throughout the game.
I would keep Barnes on the field as ST coach.
Said that Fields was not ready to lead the offense when camp began, but he's getting there.
Uh, I'd like him to BE there. ;-)
Hopefully that's just some psychology a la Urban at work here.
I'm pretty sure this is in reference to being a leader, not just the guy taking snaps, handing of and throwing. It takes some time to develop the relationships with teammates, especially those on your unit. Haskins wasn't voted a captain by his teammates last year either, but come the Penn State game, there was no question who was in charge of the huddle.
Coach, I agree; injury free camp is a real good thing; keep grinding boys. Go Bucks!
The only hard day was yesterday
But he didn't have to verbalized it did he? It was about this time in 2014, after an-injury free camp, that the unthinkable happened.
"You beat cancer by how you live, why you live, & in the manner in which you live.
So, live. Live. Fight like hell. And when you get too tired to fight then lay down and rest and let somebody else fight for you. "
- Stuart Scott
Day said this camp has been great from the standpoint of a lack of injuries.
This is music to my ears, we have to pray this trend keeps up.
Urban Meyer left an incredible legacy. 12/4/18 Ryan Day begins his.
didn't see the video, did he knock on the wooden podium after he said that?
"I spent 90 percent of my money on women and drink. The rest I wasted." - George Best
One has to hope. From what I've read and the little video I've seen, it seems as those Coach Day and the staff worked this camp closer to the likes of a NFL camp. I like that.
Happy for CJ. Excited for Mccall to get touches. 2 damn weeks.
Coach Day had a soundbite a week or so ago about not loving a bunch of captains so was hoping we would go back to 2-3 guys. Only problem imo with having that many captains.. you probably have 2-3 guys on that list that could lose their spot at some point this season and I sure hope "captain" isn't the thing that keeps that from happening. Give me the most talented person at every position whether they are a captain or not..
Come One Aug 31st!
Touchdown Counting Machine
I’m with you on that! With that being said I highly doubt “The” CJ Saunders will start due to him being a captain... we must put the best players on the field.
Sorry, didn't necessarily mean start.. just their spot. Like if Jalen Gill looks better than CJ but they keep CJ at 2nd on the depth chart. Not saying that's going to happen or is even warranted at this point... just that there's a TON of history in sports of Coaches not wanting to move Captains down the depth chart.. just hope we don't see any of that.. Same for Tuf and Cooper...
Beat FAU—and work out any glitches in any phase of the game!
I am not one who believes that every captain has to be a starter. When you name multiple captains you are really acknowledging multiple leaders of the team. Leadership comes in many forms. Star sales people or star scientists do not automatically translate to being leaders nor are leaders necessarily the best at sales or R&D. Too many organizations make the mistake of taking people who were really good at a particular skill set and moving them into leadership positions just to be able to justify paying them more. A really good leader may be the player who constantly has the right work ethic, leads by example, is a really positive influence but just does not have the physical tools to be on the field as a 1.
I don't buy one goddam drop of gas in the state of Michigan!
Unleash the G.O.A.T!
"We're still working to get tough. That's a daily process, getting tough."
I love this emphasis on toughness. Toughness will help prevent blowouts by teams who have no business blowing us out. I think Urban's teams were tough as well, but I like it as a point of emphasis. It's not the first time Coach Day has talked about it and I love it.
I don't think Coach Day can make it any more clear that Fields is not ready yet. Buckeye nation and the media refuses to believe this could be true for a million reasons but it's obvious from Days comments he's not where he needs to be yet. Let's remember to have patience and calmness in Fields journey to be a great qb. It will not happen over night...
Well last year we had one of our team captains leave the team in midseason and you cannot tell me it didnt affect the team. I like these picks and I hope all of our captains stick around the entire season.
it didn't affect the team
"I don't think you necessarily have to get a trophy to be a winner." - Nick Saban 1/2/15.
It did the week of the Purdue game
On his conversations with Justin Fields: "You can't go out and try to be what Dwayne was in game one. You can't go out and try to be what J.T. Barrett or Braxton Miller was. You got to be yourself."
If we analyze this correctly.. the only name he did not mention that he didn't want Fields to imitate was Cardale Jones. Thus, he is subliminally telling Fields to be like Jones, and so, to go win a national championship.
That's it, we're gonna be natty champs this year.
"If Chase Young is truly bigger than I think he is and taller than I think he is, he would probably have to be the literal Predator because I've seen him with my own two eyes and I personally think he's pretty damn Sasquatchian." - Kevin Harrish
My anticipation of the upcoming season is reaching a fever pitch. I have been and still am trying to keep calm but today is just another huge step towards kickoff.
I really hope people have patience with Fields. He is more than likely not going to come out and go 25/28 for 350 yards and 4 touchdowns in the first game. It’s going to take several games to get it all put together.
Sounds like everything is coming together at the right time. With this roster Chugunov could win 10 games here, the question is can Fields beat the elite defenses of Clemson,Bama and UGA? Or will he look like Todd Boekman versus USC and LSU? I highly doubt it but you never know. I was mildly shocked how bad JT looked against Clemson, but we saw signs in the regular season from the offense that pointed towards that performance against Clemson was a possibility. Namely the first 3 qtrs vs tsun in 2016.
"Day said Demario McCall has a leg up on the other running backs to be the No. 2 running back right now, but that competition is still ongoing, as well. "Demario has had a really good camp. I think he can be a weapon for us."
That's it! *slams two pieces of bread together* McCall for HEISMAN!
McCall is electric when he touches the ball. Hopefully this is finally his time to shine. He needs stay healthy and not make stupid plays(the muffed kick against TTUN was enough to make me say take his scholarship away from him...I may have overreacted a bit.)
I am stunned, totally shocked. Vanatsky is the obvious choice.
Ua Mau ke Ea o ka 'Aina I ka Pono. The life of the land is preserved in righteousness. (Hawai'i state motto) Aloha nui kakou.
Q: “Are you excited about justin’s ceiling?”
Coach Day: “I am. I am very excited.”
Me too coach... Me too
