So ryan day is smart and Justin fields can play football? Well, that is going to make for an interesting season, no?
Urban Meyer left an incredible legacy. 12/4/18 Ryan Day begins his.
Not in An Arbor.
Or in any Arbor, I’ll wager.

This reply/joke may be underrated. I LOL'd.
Agreed. Well done, Iowa.
“The best executive is the one who has sense enough to pick good men to do what he wants done, and self-restraint enough to keep from meddling with them while they do it.” – Theodore Roosevelt
He's not the sort of guy who needs a specific type of quarterback to fit his system, and thank God for that, because in my humblest of opinions, if you're an offensive coordinator and you can't win a lot of games with either Dwayne Haskins *or* Braxton Miller at quarterback, your system sucks, and so do you.
About time somebody spoke up about this I got so frustrated with folks thinking there was some sort of large sea change going on as if the Buckeyes would never run the ball again and all the QB would do is hand off or throw the ball and we're entering another era of Air Coryell with coach Day...
then it would set up a debut season with hype akin to Braxton Miller or Terrelle Pryor (though Fields isn't going to have to unseat an elder white pro-style guy with a high teens number this time).
Not sure how their race has anything to do with the narrative. Perhaps you could have said “pro-style” instead of “white”?
Was going to say the same thing. Pretty strange choice of words, especially this day in age.
Agreed. It kind of created a negative edge to the whole write-up for me.
If you have two people that agree on everything, that only means one of them is not thinking at all.
It’s a shot at humor they didn’t land, clearly. I was just (probably lazily) drawing physical comparisons between Boeckman and Bauserman (hence, the high teens number thing, which is just as irrelevant as race), I’m not trying to shape a narrative. Apologies.
No worries, Kevin. Not offended here.
It’s a shot at humor they didn’t land, clearly.
It is early.
Once everyone has their coffee then their sense of humor should improve.
In old Ohio there's a team that's known throughout the land...
The only real offensive thing was comparing Boeckman to Bauserman. One was a competent starting Big Ten QB and the other was...not (insert passing chart here).
Well, he didn't really lose his job to a hyped-up younger player, so he doesn't really count. However, I did once write a piece comparing him to another No. 16 who happens to be white!
In fairness to Kevin, there wasn't much "pro" in their pro-style to speak of...

You can’t be serious? Who cares if he says white guy, or black dude. Nobody should care. It’s not offensive. It’s not mean. It is accurate. “In this day and age” is only this way because of people feigning outrage over stupid ish. I found it funny. And as a white dude with a Hispanic last name I can appreciate it. I’m also an adult and don’t take offense to the slightest of slights while someone is entertaining us. This wasn’t medical literature, it is literally a morning article full of funny stuff with some facts mixed in. Comedy. Entertainment. Don’t ruin it for the rest of us please
I got no sleep last night and have an interview today, so if this reply comes off as “offensive”, my bad.
White guy with hispanic last name? That takes gringo to a whole new level!

Good luck with your interview.
Lew-E, I didn’t say I was offended or that Kevin is a total douche because he said it. Just didn’t think it was relevant and offered a suggestion. Calm down.
Yet fairly outraged at others’ outrage
Yep, a poster brings that to this forum and the post is deleted in minutes and I can promise you that 98% of Buckeye fans could give a flying F what color the QB is so long as he wins. "in this day an age" everything is ruled to be offensive and your intention as the author means nothing. I do agree that it may be time to take back the narrative though.
I think he was just trying to have some fun....
So what does race have to do with it? I read the site to get away from politics. In the 60's we stood with our brothers to make us one strong nation, void the color of our skin. I'm saddened by your off the wall comment.
I may not be the sharpest crayon in the box but I'm one of the most colorful.
There's no political or racial statement here, nor am I pushing any narrative. Again, race has nothing to do with it besides a quick (and admittedly lazy) physical comparison between Boeckman and Bauserman. You're right, it's totally irrelevant. It means exactly as much as their jersey numbers both being in the high teens, which I also mentioned in the same tone in the same sentence. It's just a comparison.
How dare you mention their jersey numbers...
Was thinking the same thing. A little odd to me.
I think it'll still be a few years before you see an esports "#BOOM" on our front page, but at this rate, it's gonna happen. And y'all are going to click on it.
Me: No, I won't!
Narrator: He will.

Justin Fields can be announced the starter today and the suspense can be over and we can finally focus on the season ahead. This offseason really seemed to fly by. I'm glad its over. Only one more weekend between now and college football and I get to spend it in Vegas.
Technically, you don’t have to wait that long. Florida/Miami in Orlando this Saturday night. Neither team will be very competitive this season but hey, it’s a football game that counts.
"Because we couldn't go for three"
Perhaps we will see Tathan catch a pass...
Neither team will be very competitive this season but hey, it’s a football game that counts.
That comment is up for debate -- especially as it relates to Florida.
Drue is an amazing, an astounding kicker!
Put him on the soccer team.
And as a punter, he also has experience feigning a bad collision to get a penalty!

Yes. 11:15 Press Conf to announce this years Heisman Trophy winner. What a great Monday!
The whole Justin Fields can’t read defenses narrative is comical & racially rooted. Jake Fromm, a top 20 pick in the 2020 draft, did nothing but lead his team to the natty as a true freshman. The odds of Fields beating were already slim to none. He should’ve never committed to Georgia but we’re all thankful that he did. When Justin is completing around 67% of his passes this season, don’t be surprised.
You mean 69% I'm sure
Mostly nice ?
Too much time spent at the North Heidelberg rather than the classroom. SSD 68-72
Which would put him a notch under Haskins’ 70%...checks poster’s screen name, confirms bias.
It's true that Fromm led his team to the title game, where he promptly had the second half lodged in his throat until Tua gave him an atomic elbow to restore breathing...
No, I got it. Just didn't want to pass up an opportunity to take a shot at Fromm, and Kirby Smart.
I love how people just make up their minds without doing their homework. This clip is from a guy that screamed in the press that Justin should get more playing time /www.espn.com/video/clip/_/id/27301292
This is PC pot stirring for no good reason. Plenty of touted white QBs-Tate Martell, scUM starters-can't read defenses worth a rat's ass-or at least worse than Fields.
I would say that as a generalization, I would typically agree with you. I’m not sure anyone had those concerns last year with Haskins though, and I certainly didn’t. Maybe it’s more of a stereotype with black quarterbacks with dual threat ability. If we’re imagining everyone is being genuine with their concern to Fields being able to read a pocket, it’s probably due to the limited game film of him at Georgia leaving the pocket pretty early on some of his throws without looking at multiple reads. However, there is a solid chance that UGA coaches didn’t teach him/want him to make multiple reads because of his athleticism; it could be part of the reason why he felt more comfortable transferring to Ohio State under a coach who is proven at developing quarterbacks.
I think my point is there is a little more nuance to this case than others.
This is definitely where I parked my car.
Because Justin Fields is off the charts in arm strength, speed for his size and pure athleticism, the haters wanna make up something else to attempt to knock down tOSU's shiny new QB!!!
But his HS coach himself went on record and said he is very bright and he even had a 29 on ACT with a 3.9 GPA in HS. https://usatodayhss.com/2017/justin-fields-quarterback-penn-state-football-recruiting-elite-11
Fromm led Georgia to a natty as a true Freshman? Had no idea...
The whole Justin Fields can’t read defenses narrative is comical & racially rooted.
Damnit Kevin, look what you started with your whole "white guy" comment.
A waiter is shot for not bringing a sandwich quickly enough. In France that does shock me, since they typically do not rush people at restaurants. Then again, if the restaurant is in a rough neighborhood, which this one seems to be, then maybe this is no shock after all. Odd no matter what.
Joe Bachie is the best player out of Ohio? The guy with his own initials tattooed on the backs of his arms, just in case he forgets his name I guess? Whatever works for the list I suppose.
"They say, "these geeks come a dime a dozen. I'm lookin' for the guy who's supplyin' the dimes." -Classy Freddie Blassie
Yeah, Bachie is good, no doubt about it. But I'm perfectly happy with having recruited and gained Malik Harrison's services instead.
Just don't want the hype on Fields to fizzle out like he is a character out of Springsteen's "Glory Days".

E sports arena?? People watch other people play video games? I feel like Rumplestiltskin and just woke up after a long nap. I guess I did play pac man and space invaders in the 70's. Do those qualify?
Well, at least having an arena will get them out of the house...
Seriously, though, as someone who never played video games beyond Pong and Pac-Man, I am weirdly fascinated by the eSports culture. Is it possible for someone who never played a sport to become a real coach because of their video mastery? Not coaching a position but planning and executing game strategy.

"You have to play with emotion, you can't let emotion play with you." - Ryan Day
I rather not.
To answer your question-NO-b/c video game geeks don't understand the physical realities of sports. You can't simulate on a video game what the tOSU defense did to DaU in the Fiesta Bowl-they physically destroyed them to win the game. Ever notice how the running game in video games isn't like the real thing, grinding and controlling when done right, with the OL imposing their will?
That's incredibly short-sighted. I played starting OLB for football as well as wrestled 171 weight class all 4 years of HS and after practice and games, couldn't wait to get back to being a "Video Game Geek"
Broad strokes are easier to paint I suppose....also, if you can't control the clock with the run game in Madden, you're simply doing it wrong
Leave one wolf alive....and the sheep are never safe
I'm talking about video game people who haven't played/coached sports in real life being hired as some kind of coach-like Iowa asked, not athletes who happen to enjoy video games.
Just wanted to throw in my 2 cents, I feel I'm decently qualified. I played on Ohio State's (probably) first e-sports team while I was in school from 2010 to 2012. We traveled for both collegiate and professional level tournaments. The game was Starcraft; it's a Real Time Strategy game where you acquire resources to build an army and crush your opponents. At the time in 2010, e-sports was really just starting to catch on in the US, and we were still able to draw 10k viewers for the collegiate league. There were several thousand dollars in prize money for winning the league (we got to top 16 my senior season). Also, yes, we did get the opportunity to deliver an ass whooping to TTUN every year.
We were also an actual real team. We held team practices 3-5 days a week, spent significant time creating strategies to defeat opposing teams, and deciding who on the team would play during the week. I'd say on average, a team member who played in a match practiced roughly 3-5 hours a day. We're not just sitting there twiddling our thumbs on little control sticks--you make about 180 actions per minute (i.e. individual keystrokes or mouse clicks); that's 3 a second. No, it's not the same level of physical stress as playing football; yes, it does take real skills that require practice and conditioning. That's why it's called "e-sports" it's a very similar high level of competition and requires just as much practice and dedication as physical sports, just on a different playing field.
The video game business makes more money than all four major sports leagues combined, I believe. So yes, it is going to continue to have interest from everyone around the world.
It is a $116B/year industry globally. Which is larger than the 4 major US sports leagues but still would get crushed by sports industry world wide when you add Euro soccer leagues, Rugby, basketball, hockey, Japanese baseball etc.
Wonder if they will put the e-sports arena in the basement of its building?
Indeed. Why not have both?
I gather that Day isn't married to any particular style of quarterback besides "extremely good."
Cautiously optimistic. Urban also said that they would tailor the offense to the specific QB, etc. and yet...
You don’t think last year’s offense was tailored towards the guy that broke multiple school records playing in it? Or that the No. 6 offense in the country the year before wasn’t tailored to J.T. Barrett – a guy with a totally different skill set?
Easy on the push-back Kevin, I think the guy may be Schizo.
A joy which death alone can still.
You didn't pay much attention if you don't think the offense didn't change from Braxton -> Guiton -> JT -> Cardale -> JT -> Haskins
Sorry Urban, Woody is still my favorite
If you think Urban tailored the 2015 offense to Cardale's skillset then we'll never agree.
The offense in the first 7 games of 2015 looked much more like the 2018 offense than it did the 2014 or 2016 offense from a stylistic standpoint. It just didn't succeed because we had a mediocre (at best) offensive coordinator/play caller/wide receiver coach.
Cardale averaged less than 8 carries per game in his half of the season that he started, but tell me more about how Urban tried to shove the JT offense down his throat. The passing offense didn't take off because 1. Day >>>> Warriner/Beck 2. Haskins > Cardale and 3. Hartline >>> Zach Smith.
You haven't been paying attention even a little bit if you think Urban has kept the same offense for every QB.
Look - I'm a dude and all (so yes, I should just shut up), but I have to imagine that any female would find it odd not having a period for 8 months. I seriously never understand these stories about 'I thought I had to take a deuce and had a litter of children' stories - how in god's name can you be so self unaware?!?
Agreed. You'd have to be a guy to ignore a health problem that long.
Congratulations, you officially made me spew my morning coffee onto my kitchen counter
As the recipient of many "what took you so long?" questions from my doctors over the years, it was my pleasure.
I was just talking to the new kid at work and he was telling me about a friend of his who didn't know she was pregnant until the day before she delivered a full term baby. I'm with you, how do you not notice? Not just the absence of a period either. Theres a whole bunch of shit that happens when a woman is pregnant that is totally normal for pregnancy but should probably be of some concern otherwise.
I can understand misinterpreting the "broken typewriter", but to not feel any quickening until birth baffles me.
There are many women that have irregular cycles so it's not as black and white sometimes. Stress can also cause one to be missed, but obviously if that happens multiple months in a row then you are lying to yourself about what is going on.

Criminal Chrisman wasn't on any preseason All-American teams that I am aware of. Should be on the Ray Guy watch list too.
Noon games suck
I second that and I am still baffled by it.
At the risk of giving the "recruit Ohio first!" folks an aneurism on this fine Monday morning,
I guess I’m that guy. But in fairness, I don’t personally think “first” - just because I have a minor shrine to honor JPT. I just don’t want Ohio kids overlooked. Tressel’s mantra was “build a fence” - get the Ohio kids first. With Urban, I felt like he could care less about Ohio kids at all. Day feels like a happy medium so far. Either way here comes the ‘beat the dead horse comment’....thankfully Pantoni stayed; he’s invaluable.
Edit; one thing I will say, Urban was able to pull from the Queen City...and that’s only getting better.
I'll take Malik Harrison or Robert Landers all day, every day over Joe Bachie. Josh Meyers too..................
RED FLAG ALERT: Previous 5 star QB recruit, some put at the VERY TOP (as in number 1) of a recent recruiting class STILL, mid-way thru pre-season practice season, NOT YET declared starter against a former 3 star, local undersized, slow, marginal throwing arm drop back passer, who is more suited for a DIV III program than a D-1 powerhouse. Something NOT adding up. It's OBVIOUS not a physical issue.
I think the red flag alert would be sounded if Gunner was named the starter today, not because Day hasn't formally/officially named Fields until today. It's not like the competition has been neck & neck with both splitting 1st team snaps.
It is a strategic issue. Why would Day anoint Fields the starter so early?
