What Luke Fickell is doing to Harbaugh in the media is the adult version of what he did to that poor kid in the wrestling video. In a battle of wits he has Jimmy so outmatched its not even fair yet he's taking the fight to a playing field on which Harbaugh has no skill whatsoever. Even if Harbaugh had a compelling argument for doing what he did (he doesn't) he is utterly incapable of explaining it to rational human beings. I will gladly take this drama for the rest of the offseason.

And I thought the "THE" trademark thing was stupid until I saw how much it bothered michigan fans. Now I'm on board completely. I now want to get one of the hats or the shirts just to really piss everyone off.

HS
infantrybuck's picture

Harbaugh is a pompous, self-righteous, prick.  Just the perfect embodiment of a TTUN man really.. he should of done right by James Hudson to fight/circumvent a corrupt system.  If that includes lying or embellishing facts than so be it. He’s the type of dude who probably feels good about himself when he falls asleep at night because of his “integrity”, but probably doesn’t have any meaningful friendships or relationships.

HS
MichiBuck12's picture

In his delusional mind its one of those "if you're not with us, you're against us" type things. He paints it as him just being super focused on the guys that want to be there. I'm sure he thinks it makes him a hard ass. In reality though it makes him look like a jackass. And like I said yesterday, it shows that the amount that he cares about the kids is directly related to how much they do for him. It makes sense now why even non draft pick type guys sit out bowl games for him. By their 4th year they have no allegiance to him because they've realized he has no allegiance to them.

HS
IGotAWoody's picture

What he fails to comprehend is the contradiction of saying that he believes every player should be able to transfer once without penalty, yet an examination of his actions shows that he's full of shit and doesn't back up his words with actions.

Not to mention how hard he fought to get Shea eligible immediately. Just more hypocrisy.

I actually kinda forgot about Shea. But yeah, that makes this even worse. And I was very supportive of Shea getting the waiver, as were most people on this board. I think the common sentiment was that we all thought he should get it, but were also kinda hoping that he didn't because fuck michigan. And more than Harbaugh its even more hilarious for the michigan fans that are all over the place defending Harbaugh on this one that were all demanding Shea be given a waiver.

I find the whole transfer thing/experience with OSU/Alabama vs *ichigan interesting as it's a bit of a view into the mentality of the programs.  I think the actions taken by Ohio State and Alabama show the programs as very confident in their abilities to field competitive teams.  They're not going to block a player who wishes to take his talents elsewhere, and in fact will help them, because they know they will be fine going forward.  Perhaps a rising tide thought process, etc.

*ichigan/Harbaugh on the other hand...the actions perhaps suggest a mindset of low confidence in their ability to field competitive teams.  You want to transfer? Fine.  Good luck.  We're not helping you.

I dunno, just my $0.02.

While poking around on Youtube looking for some music from my youth, I came across an old favorite and now I hear it in a new way.

The timeline doesn't fit, as Todd Rundgren gave us these lyrics in 1972, but I can't help thinking he somehow wrote this for the 2019 version of Harbaugh and TTUN.  From "Just One Victory"...

Somehow, someday
We need just one victory and we're on our way
Prayin' for it all day and fightin' for it all night
Give us just one victory, it will be all right

Maybe Rundgren did intend this for Jimmy, after all he was "A Wizard, a True Star".   Sadly for Jimmy, it may never happen, 0-7 and counting.

HS
MaineStrength's picture

This has been debated ad nauseum, but it really does just come down to this

the crux of this entire debacle is a clash of extremely strong and very different personalities.  Fickell isn't saying Michigan is blocking or objecting to Hudson's waiver, he's just saying they aren't going out of their way to help him. Harbaugh – being far from a normal human – cannot possibly comprehend that point of view.

Nobody lied, nobody cheated, and there is no moral high ground.  It's simply a difference of personal values amongst two people that strongly believe in their's and disagree with the others.  There is no right or wrong here.  It's hard to place blame on anyone.  You're just likely to side with either are you an OSU (or Cincy) fan or a UM fan, or can you strongly relate to one of those values but not the other.

Anyway, I'm praying this ends with either Michigan and Cincinnati meeting in a postseason bowl game.

Couldn't agree more.  I would love to see these two teams meet in the very near future.

Not really. Many programs (Fickell cited 2) are supporting their outgoing players to get their waiver. Harbaugh is not doing so. And he is twisting this. No one is asking him to lie and say that the kid had documented mental health issues. Fickell is merely asking if he is going to help Hudson get a waiver. And the answer is no. Some programs are helping the outgoing kids. Some are not. It is that simple.

Trying to explain this to a "Michigan Man" is an exercise in extreme futility. They will never acknowledge your point, and I don't even think they're capable of doing so.

Harbaugh is a hypocrite. If you say you support players being able to transfer once without penalty, you have the opportunity to support that statement with your actions.

BTW here is an example of me showing criticism of JH on this topic for the record.

Clearly there is some dislike for the situation by JH about this.  Either he's frustrated with Hudson for transferring or he's frustrated with Fickell for pressuring him.

Here's another

JH's response seems like a defensive posture.  He's not going to give an inch because he feels like he's being attacked.  A more flexible/big picture response would be to say that he probably should have done a better job handling the situation.  He obviously didn't do that, so there is some criticism for him there.

That's like 2 criticisms for JH in less than 24 hours and at least one recognition of one pro OSU point.  Mindblown!  You're turn ;)

Dude, for an OSU-centric site, you get plenty of leeway and fair treatment here. And yet you pushback. An OSU fan on MGoBlow doesn't get anything remotely close to this kind of fair back and forth.

While your analysis TRIES to be balanced, your bias still shows. And for that, you will be called out. And when people point out that your defense gave up 62 to its rival, and yet you STILL call it top 3 (you were 16th in scoring defense, btw). And you followed up that 62 point shellacking by giving up 41 to Florida in the bowl game. Most fans would take those beatings and STFU for awhile. But that's just not the Michigan way.

You don't get credit for other OSU fans being level headed and I won't accept flack for other UM fans being homers. We are individuals. We're all biased, there's nothing wrong with that. But, I recognize good points, even if they are pro OSU while you refuse to recognize any good pro UM points. Just own who you are. I wish to have a real discussion where we can evaluate evidence. I'm a homer. And I'm also someone who recognizes that if I get my ass beat, I should STFU about the quality of my team. If my rival put up 62 on my ass, I would NOT stick to my guns about how my defense is top 3 (it's not, btw, even from a statistical standpoint - because points scored/points given up are the ultimate stat to look at - and you finished 16th). And I most certainly would not do so ON THAT RIVALS PRIMARY FAN SITE!!

I understand - you got your ass beat, and you've been getting your ass beat 14 of the last 15 times you've played us. You've got to search for victories somewhere... ANYwhere. So you cling to this idea that you have a great defense. You don't. Get over it. You have a good defense that occasionally gets exposed. And boy howdy, did you get exposed at the end of last season!

At least now you're on record for being unable to have a conversation that involves give and take when it comes to UM.

I'm also someone who recognizes that if I get my ass beat, I should STFU about the quality of my team.

None of our discussions have been who is the better team.  It's quite clear...62-39.  Our discussion was on who was the better defense.  So, if I'm following your logic, if a defense has a bad game, no one can talk about them ever again?  We can't analyze anything about them because of that one game?

If my rival put up 62 on my ass, I would NOT stick to my guns about how my defense is top 3 (it's not, btw, even from a statistical standpoint

You're welcome to enjoy bragging rights all you want...that's the beauty of being a fan.  But, that doesn't mean we can't analyze beyond the scoreboard.  That's why this is a discussion board....that's what it's for.

Of course it is...

So you cling to this idea that you have a great defense. You don't.

That's still not the discussion point.  I never said their defense was great.  I said it was better than OSU's in 2018.  I didn't create the stat.  Don't get mad just because I cited it.  The facts are the facts.  They also gave up lots of points to OSU & Florida.  See?...give and take.

Top 3 defense? Look, it's not Michigan's fault the big10 had some bad offenses last year especially teams like Wisky and MSU. So the defense looked great against the big10 not named OSU. Do you think Michigan's defense would've had any better of a showing against Oklahoma, Alabama, Georgia, Clemson etc etc...Those teams would've put up at least what Florida did if not more.

Do you think Michigan's defense would've had any better of a showing against Oklahoma, Alabama, Georgia, Clemson etc etc...Those teams would've put up at least what Florida did if not more.

Probably not.  You're absolutely right that there were not many good offenses in the B1G in 2018 other than OSU, which is partially why UM was able to be ranked so high in team defense.  However, as I mentioned that was not the argument.  It wasn't is UM a great defense when compared to the rest of the country.  The argument was which defense was better in 2018...UM or OSU.  Both defenses had the same benefit of playing the B1G's bad offenses.  But, OSU's defense got the benefit of not having to play the only good offense in the conference...OSU's offense.

I don't really see what that argument matters. I guess you want to claim some kind of victory over OSU. Sure, OSU had some holes defensively in '18. I wouldn't count on that defense being as average this year.

I don't really see what that argument matters. I guess you want to claim some kind of victory over OSU.

That's because you're seeing it out of context.  I'll post the link below.  The original context was in a previous Skull Session the writer Kevin Harrish said that because Day is an offensive guy he liked the idea of handing the reigns to the d-coordinator.  Another poster, Dillon G, disagreed citing Rich Rod doing it and how that ended bad.  I replied to him that JH has been on record saying he does the same thing with Brown and that has been effective and that's how the discussion began.  I didn't set out to get into a debate of OSU vs UM I just agreed with the Harrish that it's possible, to which IGotAWoody took exception to anything supporting a positive opinion of UM and here we are.

Strength equipment is expensive & guarantees you nothing. A strong will is free & will give you everything you need.

Typical UofM BS. The moral high ground and the right thing to do would have been to help the kid get the waiver. You people up there are so blinded that you can't possibly imagine a scenario where UM wouldn't take the highroad. Harbaugh is off his rocker crazy and you're going to  see it full frontal this year as he continues to come unglued. And while you'll see it more and more in increasing proportions you'll continue to deny it. Because you're blind.

Yep, and it is moral high ground. We are doing right by the kids. They are not. Yet another thing we are doing better than them.

Maybe i'm missing something. I can't stand Harbaugh on alot of things he does and i've said that on this board alot. If the NCAA in their decision to give a kid a waiver or not, because it is their decision, lets a coach decide whether or not the kid gets it then we can assume Harbaugh helped Drew Singleton get one at Rutgers? He certainly didn't block it.

Forget lying or cheating and direct your moral high ground to how each approach affects the continued development of a young human being who is struggling to correct an innocent mistake. One response is to do your best to help a kid get through a very difficult time in his life, the other is to abandon him in the name of defending "loyalty".

(Editor's Note: Let it be known that Justin Fields' completion percentage was actually a shade above 69 percent, not a full 70 percent as PFF suggests)

Nice!!! If I was a QB that's where I'd want my completion percentage as well.

... in his mind, that's a thing a normal human being would do and if Michigan doesn't do it, they're in the wrong. Harbaugh – being far from a normal human – cannot possibly comprehend that point of view.

I'm not sure that I would just concede that Harbaugh is human; "far from normal" or not, I would say the evidence is not convincing.

I'm so ready to get this season started. The preseason lists, and preseason AA's and this and that, there's so much content it's mind numbing and none of it is a true reflection on the season to come, it's all guessing.

Let's just kick the shit out of FAU, then work our way into kicking the shit out of Michigan.

Urban Meyer left an incredible legacy. 12/4/18 Ryan Day begins his.
