Wut? He’ll learn.

In the words of Vin Scully, ‘it’s only a rivalry when both teams are good...’
Thank you Urban Meyer and Gene Smith
“Quote me!!” If we loose this year we know who to blame! The new guy!
GO BUCKS!!! *ichigan sucks!!!
Wait... what's loose? The helmet strap? Their shoestrings?
Sorry, I had to. Loose is when something is not tight and might fall out. Lose, is something the Buckeye's don't plan on doing much.
"Play for Ohio State or get beat by Ohio State. That simple." - Kirk Barton
Ha ha! He's a 2020 commit, not a part of the team yet until he signs the LOI.
Call it whatever you want but win the game.
I think this clearly falls into the "talking shit" category and only means he does respect the rivalry. He even says we'll continue beating them all decade and it'll be electrifying. No one says it's electrifying when we beat Northwestern for a decade.
Coach Day will swiftly teach this dude the error of his ways. Let TTUN talk the talk while our Buckeyes walk the walk.
If only you knew the POWER of the Dark Side
This. Cooper's teams talked all the time. We know how well that worked for them.
Gross. Respect the damn rivalry.
Always respect your opponent as a worthy adversary.
Our honor defend, so we'll fight to the end !
Even if you hate their f--king guts!
What's round on the ends and high in the middle? Tell me if you know!
Number of upvotes = NICE!
West Coast Buckeye
He is going to learn fast. And he better.
No no no. This hubris is what led to TTUN's downfall in the 90's. Yes, we've dominated, but always respect the rivalry. Hopefully Day and the upperclassmen will teach him well.
I'd correct only one thing from your comment as a student at OSU in the '90s:. TTUN's hubris caught up with them in '01. They were our Boogeyman in the '90s.
I survived Cooper, and I hate Tai Streets.
You're right. This is exactly the kind of shitty attitude that lead to michigans downfall. Hopefully the upperclassmen set this kid straight real quick.
This hubris is what led to TTUN's downfall in the 90's.
He's not wrong.... just should never say it..
Darrion, we'd like to introduce you to our former coach Urban. He would like a few words with you.
Real Life Wednesday
Darrion, be thankful you didn't grow up when a bunch of us others did. Yeesh.
Something tells me this guy will be doing some extra ttun workouts at the Woody.
Coach needs to have a talk behind the woodshed
Calm down everyone. Whats the record the past 17-18 years when he’s been watching? Or the past 13-14 years when he’s been competently watching football games? It’s been lopsided as hell and it has lost some of its luster with us younger people. We still hate that team it just doesn’t seem like a fight when you’re constantly burying that team year in and year out. Remember the 90s and 80s and the Ten Year War Darrion? No, he doesn’t, he wasn’t even alive for Christ sake.
That's fine, it should just never be said to someone who can spread it around the internet.
"We gotta go win this next game and make the State of Ohio proud!"-UFM
I wasn't alive for the 1969 loss but it still pisses me off that it happened. I wasn't alive for the Civil War but I happened to care about that too. Not being alive for past events is NOT a reason to not know about them; ignorance is not a virtue.
I bleed scarlet...literally
Ya that's all true, except he and his classmates had no hand in it.
The "rivalry" is as solid as ever. We are certainly enjoying lots of wins over the last two decades, but the rivalry is as strong as ever. 4 of the last 8 games have been decided by one score or less, two of which came down to the last play of the game. I think if OSU always wins by double digit scores, then the magnitude of the rivalry would recede. The W/L record over the last two decades makes it seem like its just another opponent, but the individual games are still usually competitive, and always seems to be the hardest hitting game of the year. The rookie needs to show more respect for the opponent, at least publicly, no matter who it is.
To each their own I suppose but damn, some of you need to take a step back from the ledge because of what a teenager that hasn’t even enrolled yet said.
Hard to blame him as I assume he was born around 2001-2002. Children of a different era, indeed. He will soon learn.
Ok Darrion, that's your one slip up with the media. You're not yet on campus, so I'll allow this...
But you better get up quick on your history, bro
OSU didn't execute and lost to horrible officiating. BOTH things can be true
You can talk shit to TTUN and still respect the rivalry. Dismissing the rivalry isnt how you do it bro. You'll learn.
"I find your lack of kalua disturbing" - Darth Lebowski

You're too stupid to have a good time. -Dalton
I love that short clip of Michael Jordan in complete exuberance after a TD!! Lot's of good clips in this vid.
YESSSS!!!! Why can't football start today!?!?!
Given his age, I see his point...growing up in the 90’s, I will always respect them.
The players and staff will straighten him out soon.
Man….. this football team.-Jeff Okudah
As a student in the '90s, I learned to respect the hell out of them. They're kind of like a yellow jacket nest: You know they're there, and you know how to kill them, but occasionally, despite your best efforts, you get stung. Never disrespect them or underestimate them. Ever. As for Darrion, it's ok given his age and experience. He will learn when he reports to the WHAC.
Kudos for the great analogy!!!
I grew up in the 1970s, during the Woody & Bo era, when this rivalry was at it's hottest. I have to say that I much prefer smashing them damn near every year, mostly because they TTUN fans in the 419 are obnoxious.
"If you're not changing, you're falling behind."
Completely agree about the (419) TTUN fans, they are truly obnoxious. Living in Toledo for close to forty years I've had to endure my fair share of trash talking from that group of fans. I respect that team up north, they had our number for years but I can't lie it puts a smile on my face to see all the UM gear / car windows flags disappear from sight every year after THE GAME. For me I would rather walk the walk than talk the talk. Young Mr. Henry will learn to do the same. Damn good time to be a Buckeye fan but bad area to live in without hearing the annual this is our year we have (insert any decent TTUN players name back for another season).
There's nothing that cleanses your soul like getting the hell kicked out of you --Woody Hayes
They usually start to disappear after the first loss to Appy State or Toledo.
Don't say dumb shit.
Shut your trap and get to work.
I know there's a game Saturday, and my ass will be there.
I Believe In Ohio State.
Don’t think it. Don’t say it. Rinse and repeat!
Man, just swallow your tongue right now Mr. Henry!!!!! Don't speak the crazy talk before you have played a down in the Horseshoe!
"Always bear in mind that your own resolution to succeed, is more important than any other one thing." - Abraham Lincoln
I'd be glad to fill him in on the pain of 1988-2000....I remember scUM players saying similar things. Heck, they even considered Sparty as their rival during a good part of the 90s.
I read blitz
You can say what you want, as long as you back it up. Sure, outside of that 2003 loss, the only loss was to the worst OSU football team in over 100 years, but you have to back up your words and avoid it. Go Bucks!
Hopefully, he takes University 101 to learn what he might be able to apply his talents to. Politician is certainly not it.
Urban would literally rip him a new one. I’m sure he is a great kid, but that is not the Buckeye way. Respect the rivalry by working it 365 days a year.
Respect a team that this board disrespects and talks trash about 24/7? Nobody here respects them.
Your second sentence simply isn’t true and for those that it is true, I’d be willing to bet most if not all didn’t play on the team.
It’s 100% true. This board does not respect Michigan.
There are Michigan fans that comment on these boards making it demonstrably false.
In addition to them, there are plenty of commenters that take the “revered enemy” approach to Michigan. I’ll post the next one I come across.
Wrong. This board trashes Michigan and Harbaugh daily. He sucks, they suck, etc. Nobody on here respects him or them.
I guess you missed this article. Clearly not wrong.
I have to say, I'm pleasantly surprised by this thread. I came expecting dumb takes and leave being reassured that most, like myself, still value beating the skunkweasals above all else.
Thank you all.
^ best post ever ^
Mr. Henry will learn when he gets to Columbus next season.TTUN will ALWAYS be our rival. My suggestion to him is watch the documentary about The Game on YouTube.
Terry Glenn 2.0
Some of this freaking out is fucking hysterical from you people.
A similar comment was made by a player from TTUN in the late 1990s. Soon afterward the fortunes of each school took a 180 degree turn. Once the players start to view "The Game" as just another game on the schedule, bad things could be destined to happen. Always respect the rivalry and what it stands for. Those who ignore history are doomed to repeat it...
Yup. 100% correct.
His saving grace is he’s not really a buckeye yet. He’ll learn quickly.
There's something to this right here. It's when the youngsters come in here nothing fully understanding who they're playing for and what it means when the next slump hits. That's why I sort of cringe when we base recruiting on videos and uniform spin-offs instead of the Traditions. We're an institution of higher learning. We're supposed to teach youngsters and get them out of their comfort zones, not cater to their needs.
As it stands this Millennial just dropped a Boomer. But I'm sure he's received a few notes from past Buckeyes about his goof. Nothing a few gassers won't rectify
If you die before you die, then you won't die when you die.
I appreciate Henry's loyalty, but as so many other have said, he has much to learn. And learn he will! Respecting "The Game" makes us stronger.
Oh boy (sigh). I get it from his perspective, but that's just not something that should be verbalized, and I pray with all my might that he doesn't have to eat those words.
Young man needs to understand...learn to respect the rivalry and then go out on the field and beat the shit out of xichigan. Walk the Walk young man....
Enjoying daily the back to back ttun beatdowns.
We can never beat them enough. They suck. Balls.
Welcome to the new age. Time has finally come for a newbie who has contributed zilch nada nothing to the program or the rivalry to show it zero respect and provide TTUN bulletin board material for The Game.
Bulletin board material is WAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAY over-rated.
So are your posts. Go Bucks
I am TOTALLY on board with him. It is not a rivalry anymore. You have to win every 3rd or 4th game at the least to be a rivalry.
Give it time. CFB is cyclical. Clemson was average for the first 14 years of this century, and well before that.
And the first hundred of the century before.
My aim, then, is to whip the Weasels, to humble their pride, to follow them to their inmost recesses, and make them fear and dread us. Fear is the beginning of wisdom. - William Tecumseh Sherman (with apologies)
Amazing what a little SARMs can do for your program.
but like it says below, 16-2 is SWEET! so he does have a point...
15-1 is SWEET!
Dude is 18 years old! What else is he supposed to think given the last seven years. It’s like to asking a teenager to respect a rotary phone or rolling up the window. Still a rivalry but i get his context.
That's the difference of not playing in THAT game yet.. Make sure he attends this year.
Schedule a meeting with Urban.
Respect them and lid the beating on the field. The next games can be quickly reversed
Urban won't like this comment.
IT IS THE RIVALRY AND ALWAYS WILL BE!!!!!!!
If you could ask Terry Glenn, God rest his soul, about downplaying the rivalry with ttun, he would set you straight young jeezy.
In old Ohio there's a team that's known throughout the land...
“Those who cannot remember the past are condemned to repeat it." (George Santayana)
thanks for the reminder!
Thanks for that PAINFUL reminder... sends a cold chill down my spine!
Only reason it's not a rivalry is because it IS a rivalry.
Our Buckeyes made it a one sided rivalry. It was because we wanted it more and did not take anything for granted.
Dude needs to take Professor Meyer's class Respect the Rivalry 101. Syllabus; work your tail off like you've never worked before and then whoop their tail like it's never been whooped before. And in the before and after just smile and let the score board speak for you.
The only good thing about The Game is winning it - Urban Meyer
How I imagine his first day at school will go.
Greeter: Welcome Mr. Henry to the THE Ohio State University. For your university initiation, you will personally be introduced to the proud traditions of Ohio State by Mr. Urban Meyer.
Darrion: Uh, why am I the only one? And, uh, why is the room soundproofe..............
Send the Earth Reverberating
I never saw a house get built with words. Talk less, work more. Denying the rivalry doesn't make it so. It would make sense if he spoke truth and fact that the Bucks OWN the rivalry right now but.... it IS a rivalry. Wait until we lose to TTUN, tune will change. Its been a great run and I hope it continues. I have loved every win.
My comment about the university trademarking the word "the" -- I say the same thing here.
Well, I make that same comment here. I went through a decade of U of M fans telling me there was no rivalry because OSU never won a stinking game ... I wonder how they feel now.
It's a day for dumbness.
Success - it's what you do with what you've got. - Woody Hayes
Recency bias is showing. Until we have more head to head wins vs them it'll always be a rivalry.
On paper it doesn't look like a rivalry, but of an ass kicking. But deep down it will always be a rivalry. I get what Henry said, but the coaching staff and the older players will straighten him out.
We have won with better coaches and players. I don't like the talk, but it doesn't change the outcome.
What is he, a 16 or 17 year old kid? How about we just calm down and ignore this giant nothingburger.
A guy by the name of Kyle once said "There will be blood on the field" How did that turn out for him. Another guy named Hart once referred to his instate rival as "our little sister". How did that turn out? Talk smack on the field, but not to reporters. Did not a guy by the name of Dave once guaranteed a win over TTUN. That did not work out also. Respect
Well there is only one more game THIS decade so maybe he was just slyly giving his prediction for this year lol. Please no more trash talk guys, just beat them, losing to that team ruins the whole season.
Mr. Henry is speaking his mind and speaking his truth. It hasn't been a rivalry, from his perspective. TOSU has other teams on the radar, truer rivals, from Mr. Henry's perspective. Good on him for getting this out in the open. I am looking forward to November. Methinks Michigan players are salty and are going to shut up this next 4 months.
Just not how you respect the rivalry. When you start saying those things, you start believing those things, you start preparing that way, and you start losing.
Its not like the last few games haven’t been competitive. The difference has been what makes Ohio State and that rivalry what it is. It is what motivates Ohio State to victory.
He needs to fix that mindset. I chalk that up to simple ignorance and perspective. He’ll get there.
Make this kid run the steps at The Shoe! Never give them any bulletin board material.
Our Honor Defend we will Fight to the end for O-HI-O!
Maybe 11W should not have put salt in the wound by devoting an article with huge headlines screaming at you to the ill advised statement this kid made.
The will to win is not as important as the will to prepare to win. -- Woody Hayes
Isn't this something Ruckert said too? Perhaps he could Darrion Henry a lesson on what not to say.
He's going to get a reality check on that when he gets to campus. Maybe all he's known in his life is OSU owning this rivalry...but one thing remains true - the moment that OSU starts taking this rivalry for granted is the moment that TTUN turns the tables. There's a reason Urban and Tressel went a combined 16-1 in The Game...they respected the rivalry. Never took it for granted. Always had an eye on them and preparing for them. As long as OSU is pulling in superior talent, then they will continue to own the rivalry as long as they continue to take it seriously.
I'm not crazy about some of our future recruits giving them bulletin board material. Bulletin board material for the next game that they won't yet be here for. I have to imagine that TTUN is motivated enough as is after the embarrassment last year.
Class of 2010.
Well it's all been said here but I'll say it again:
Coach Day will change that outlook for him, and hopefully quickly. This is the bulletin board material our program has avoided putting out there for the most part of the last 5-7 years. We need to keep it locked up.
Mr. Henry is in for a rude awakening when he gets here.
To give anything less than your best is to sacrifice the gift.
Thus far, he has as much claim to the victories over Michigan as I do. I wish he could refrain from expressing this type of sentiment until he has contributed to its veracity.
No son. Just no.
This only reaffirms that kids should not be allowed to speak until they either 21 or graduated from Marine Corps Boot Camp. Until then, they have not been knocked down enough to be allowed to spout opinions.
I think of Urban when I read this and wonder what he'd do. I keep thinking back to when he said he wouldn't tolerate this kind of lack of disrespect to the rivalry. Hope Day instills some of that in him. This will forever be a rivalry.
Maize and Who?
Gassers til you puke...then more gassers.
He needs to focus on Colerain right now. When he enrolls, he will learn to focus every single day on our rival. Somebody get this kid a Cooper VHS and a flea market VCR.
Nice catch Hayes .. don’t ever f***ing do it again!
My watch has no numbers .. it always reads "Time for the Buckeyes to kick some ass"
Someone needs to coach him up. I don't care if we win 100 in a row. It just means a chance for 101. #hatetrain
" Successful people are very lucky. Just ask every failure."
~ Urban Meyer
Penn St is a bigger rivalry on and off the field.
I hate losing to Michigan. But that game was much more fun when we did lose half the time. I grew up in the 70s nad 80s. The game meant a lot because we did lose it about half the time - there was a lot on the line. Now it is a rivalry in name only. If Michigan were to win a few in close succession, it would get better, But no matter how many gold pants, TTUN acronyms, no "m"s on the signs, "don't give a damn" songs, etc, you cannot manufacture a rivalry with propaganda. Yes, Michigan had hubris in the 90s. But the last 18 years are twice as lopsided as that was.
Also, just like the playoff has ruined the bowl games, the Big Ten championship game would have taken a lot away from the Michigan game even if UM were more competitive.
