I might have to head up to Chapel Hill for that game. Closest I would get to see.
I'll be there. Girlfriend graduated from Chapel Hill. Big relationship test. I'll be at Top of the Hill drinking lots of beers win or lose.

Rock that scarlet in there my dude... I thought we had them in our last trip there... Greg Oden was shooting free throws left handed that night.
Greg Oden did not play against North Carolina in Chapel Hill that season. He didn't see action the first time until the next game (12/2/06) against Valparaiso.
Purdue Fort Wayne played at Ohio State last year. Are you sure its not away this year?
GO BUCKS!!! *ichigan sucks!!!
100% sure. Purdue Fort Wayne is collecting another paycheck. This wasn't a home/home. The only home/home was Cincinnati.
Pretty confident that OSU will NEVER play at Purdue-Fort Wayne.
If they did they would play in the War Memorial Coliseum. It seats 10,250. Indiana played them there 2 years ago and lost.
That’s a strong OOC schedule. No reason not too, really.
This is the type of non conf schedule we should have every year. Cincy, WVU, good BB programs UNC,Kentuck,Villanova... you could call these elite BB programs ... exciting to see the Buckeyes challenged along with a tuff BIG... .. some may say it is too hard but you need pressure and heat to make diamonds...recruits should like it and so should the players..
I agree for the most part, but keep in mind they had no control over the UNC and Nova games. Holtmann was told at the Big 10 meetings they would most likely get an away game with Va Tech, NC State, or UNC for the ACC challenge. They got UNC. He was told they would most likely get a home game versus Creighton, Butler, or Nova for the Gavitt Games. They got Nova.
Based on Holtmann's comments, I don't think he was thrilled to land the two toughest match-ups possible in those games. He joked shortly after that they might as well set up their scrimmage with the Golden State Warriors. I still think he would prefer to error on the side of being too difficult than the other way around. And I think most all of us fans would agree.
As much as I loved Matta, I don't think he had the same mentality as Holtmann. So I am very thankful of Holtmann for that.
I play, coach stays. He goes, I go.
Matta's back really limited him in his later years at tOSU-he basically refused to fly unless he absolutely had to-like conference games or the NCAA tourney. This meant no OOC pre-season tournaments or big time neutral site games.
Wow, not breaking them in easy...
You win with people.
But come Selection Sunday, will we have played enough top teams?
But come Selection Sunday, will we have played won enough top teams games?
Our honor defend, so we'll fight to the end !
This is a schedule that will severely test a young team. Should pay dividends when they get to January.

Scarlet & Gray Passes have been purchased! Still looking to try and score my tickets to the game out in Vegas from Ohio State. If anyone is a season ticket holder and has the option to purchase from the allotment, I will gladly purchase them from you and give you some extra money for the hassle. I know the venue is putting their tickets on sale Friday, October 18th. But I do not want to end up sitting among Kentucky fans. I will seriously get nauseous.
PURDUE FORT WAYNE
Ohio State Classic? One of those things is true...
Can't help but think the strong OOC schedule will do nothing but help strengthen this young team heading into the B10 schedule. It will also offer many teaching moments for our quality coaching staff.
Should go about 8-3 with losses to Kentucky, Villanova, and UNC. Anything better will be just extra. I think UNC is probably the most likely team we could upset with all that they lost.
I don't know about that ... Villanova is in Cbus and Kentucky is out in LV and the last time we played Kentuck IIRC about 4 years ago we beat them. UNC at UNC will be a tuff one.
Kentucky is going to be a lot better than that team 4 years ago. That was probably coach Cal's second worst Kentucky team he has had. They were pretty bad by Kentucky standards that year. Fringe top 25 team. This year they are a top 5 team in contrast but we are better also. It should be exciting but I think Kentucky is the best team we will play all year other than Michigan State.
And this Buckeye team will be a better team than the one that beat Kentucky 21-14.... NIT loss to Florida 2nd round
finished 7th in the BIG
And I said that in my previous post that we would be better...
kentucky is a legit top 3 team this year. Lot of depth and size which is still our weakness. Comparing that situation to this one is like comparing apples to oranges. Lot less vulnerable even with us being a better team. Still have a shot but it’s always hard to upset a top 3 team when you don’t have a home crowd.
I actually think Villanova. They had a down season last year to their standards, and we get them at home early in the season. Hopefully there is a good crowd for the Cincy and Nova games.
Villanova I'd say is the second most likely. They return a lot of high potential players that will make a huge leap this year. Got a lot of those lanky 3 and 4 position players that were high potential guys ready to take then next step. Sadie Bey I would be surprised if he wasn't a first team all Big East. Probably be a first round pick next year. Plus they have a monster top 5 recruiting class with 2 top 15 players coming in. They are a top 8 team in the country. UNC loses their top 5 scorers from last year, including 3 first round picks. Lot of talent they are losing and they have a less heralded but still top 10 recruiting class than villanova has coming in. I'd expect early on for them to be pretty vulnerable with all that they lost. Villanova returns at least 3 of their 5 starters. UNC only has one returning starter and he was their worst one. So yeah I would say even though its away I think OSU has a better chance of beating UNC.
Villanova should be a good game. They were a borderline top 25 team last year and they lost by far their 2 best players. They had a really good recruiting haul, but if we are a top 20 team, this home game shouldn't be any worse than a 50-50 proposition.
Kentucky should be really good this year, but of course very young again. Probably a game we won't win, but again, if we are a top 20 team, it should be competitive.
UNC lost a ton (5 of their top 6). They had a good recruiting haul, but I don't know that Anthony is that much better than Carton (better scorer yes) and Bacot plays the same position as one of their best returning players (Manley). They signed a couple of transfers to help in the back court, but I don't see them as a team that is going to out athlete us and they haven't played together. Being a true road game will be difficult, but again, not a game we have no chance of winning.
Now, I don't know how good we are going to be with 2 new PG's and not knowing how much guys have improved. These 3 games will certainly provide a test, but if we are going to be in the top 5 of the conference and a team that can advance to the second round of the NCAA tourney, then I don't see why we shouldn't win at least 1 of these games.
This OOC schedule gives Alabama football nightmares
All Glory is Fleeting
I like this schedule.
However, shouldn't we be paying the US Men's National team to come be our scrimmage. Would hate to miss the tourney because the Committee felt our scrimmage wasn't strong enough.
On a serious note, will need to look into ticket to that scrimmage. Can watch my Alma Mater and OSU in the same night.
Young guns better get good quick.
That's one of the toughest hoops schedules in the nation. Sparty-2x-should be a unanimous preseason #1, UK will probably be #2-the Buckeyes have to hope they catch them before any of their freshmen wings develop a shooting touch, and UNC is definitely top 10 material. Add in Nova, a pissed off WVU-after their trainwreck last year-and the rest of the B10-wooooeeeee!!!!
Of Nova, NC, KY, and WV would be great if we can take 2 and keep the others close.
Onward and upward! Go Buckeyes!
Glad to see the weak ass OOC schedule go away. Got tired of seeing them play the little sisters of the poor every game like we did almost every year under Thad.
"Its gonna be cold, its gonna be grey, and its going to last you the rest of your life!".
That might be the strongest non-conference schedule I can ever remember in my years of following OSU hoops. Nearly half of the 11 games will be tough tests. North Carolina, Kentucky, Villanova - definitely among the elite programs. Cincinnati and West Virginia are programs that best case, are really good teams, and worst case, are still far better than the cupcakes that tend to fill up these non-conference schedules. So, really, only 6 cupcakes (not counting the exhibition). I'm OK with that. Those cupcake games do serve a purpose, but tougher tests early in the season also serve an equally good (if not better) purpose, too.
Class of 2010.
Holtmann is a killer - great tests prior to league play. Let's get it
