Da Bullets be comin’ back.
They'll be givin' the opponents the whole nine yards!
I'd rather be an hour early than a minute late.
Just as long as the defense doesn't give our opponents that tenth whole yard...
The "whole nine yards" is in reference to WWII combat aircraft. The .50 cal ammo loaded into each machine gun came in 9 yard long belts. So when the pilot gave an enemy plane, "the whole nine yards," that means he blew the crap out of them - or at least tried.
I am aware...sarcasm font was meant to turn it into a football joke. Apparently failed to do that...
I got ya, AZ Buckeye. I might of missed the joke, but that's normal for me.

I sure didn't know that. Thanks!
In old Ohio there's a team that's known throughout the land...
What you know that ain't so.

What? Snopes.com debunks the ammo belt theory, dating the expression to the 1960's, too many years after the end of WWII in 1945. But they don't have a definitive answer to the actual origin of the saying.
Our honor defend, so we'll fight to the end !

What’s wrong with snopes? Does it not confirm your preconceived notions? Are you unable to check listed sources? Or is it the fact that it isn’t 100% accurate, a hurdle that literally nothing meets. Even Webster’s dictionary has printed mistakes.
Great history lesson, but it will take more than that to improve the defense.
Urban Myth. The phrase "whole nine yards" predates WWII by about a century!
There is no consensus on the meaning as it was applied "early and often" to many situations. The earliest mention related to yards of cloth for dresses.
In your defense, Major, the airplane gunners may have applied the old term to a new situation.
If we can have solid punting and kicking to win field position and a defense that forces turnovers and prevents scoring. I will be happy with that.
User name checks out.

Don’t pee on my leg and tell me it’s raining!
I’m conflicted. I like the sound of that, and I don’t like the sound of that. Well, they do say defense win championships.

Defenses always dominate in early Preseason
Generally speaking, there would be something wrong if the defense was not ahead of the offense at this point - especially, with a new quarterback at the helm. And based on last year's D, it may be a particularly good sign -
Good judgement comes from experience. Experience comes from bad judgement. - Will Rogers
Per Buckeye Phi, today's results fit the classic cliche for preseason camps, which is that the defense typically is--and "should" be--ahead of the offense, which takes a bit longer to get in sync, especially if it's a more dynamic system.
Given last year's defensive woes, personally, I'd also be a whole lot more concerned if the O were pushing around the D at this juncture.
The best news is that both sides of the ball are salty and battling hard day after day. Beyond that, this is the perfect time to make mistskes...
Then watch film, learn, and clean it up.
This was my exact thought re D should be ahead, so this is very good news. After last year, if we heard the O just tore it up in the first scrimmage, that would be a big red flag.

Tough to read anything into this right now. Like the fumbles and pick 6's could be from dudes 3rd on the depth chart. No way to know. Doesn't make them happening any better but it would be different if it was first-team guys.
The defense is always ahead this time of the season. So much of offense is timing and that's tough to do when you don't have your 11 guys out there firing on all cylinders.
Film breakdown though should be pretty important... should really start to see a depth chart shake out this week..
An O coach is going to be disappointed with turnovers, but this is something I really like about Day: his game planning and his play calling both demand an exceptional level of execution, and he's not going to be satisfied, only have varying levels of 'disappointment,' until he gets it from his offense.
Otoh, it really is excellent to hear that the Bullets are helping the O sharpen their game, because there's an exceptional level of O talent.
That damn Stud. Fumbling and throwing interceptions. Fire him. Now!!!
This is a much-better sign, I believe:
“I don't know really who's ahead of the other, but I will say up to this point, it's kind of gone back and forth, which is a good sign,” Day said. “The offense will kind of get after the defense one day, and then vice versa. So that's healthy. I think if one side has dominated the other throughout camp then you may have an issue, but right now it's been a good battle."

That's a good one, too!
It’s just trying to realize that you don’t get opportunities anymore. So every time you go out there, they really matter. And when you go out there, you’ve gotta make that translate, so you gotta build that now. You take that mentality where you make every rep count. You treat it like a game. You can bring that to when the season starts. You can’t do it in in-season practices, and then be like, in Week 10 – ‘I’m gonna turn up now. Now I’m gonna start doing what I should have been doing the previous weeks.’ That’s not how it works.
Would rather the defense be ahead of the offense at this point. This is good.
Stay golden, Ponyboy.
I'm.... okay with this actually.
Offensive line better step the hell up. In that short video, the QB's were running for their lives. if we have OL problems, going to be a long season. C'mon coach Stud.
1) We have four new Offensive lineman, and one of them is recovering from back surgery
2) Our Defensive line is pretty good/s
4) Go Bucks
This excites me. I have to think that the offense will be just fine. But its reasonable to think for this team to be successful, the D is going to have to carry them for a few weeks until Fields and co figure it out (which they will)
Also, it's only fair after last year
I'm ready for some football. Most every coach in the country is saying "we have a lot of work to do" after a scrimmage.
At least they have a scrimmage!
That’s a bold move to expose weaknesses in this way!
Not every teams defense is ahead of the offense

Any day the defense wins is a good day! Anyone sleeping on this offense is silly. Let this defense go to work! All of the talent is there!! Let Vincent, togiai, wade , Mitchell, Wade, Johnson eat! These are future NFL studs! Get them in the game!!! Let’s goooooo
