I would love to see this kid have one special moment on the field this year that he and all Buck fans will remember.
If you have two people that agree on everything, that only means one of them is not thinking at all.
A 1 yard QB sneak for a touchdown late in the 4th quarter as Ohio State beats TTUN 52-10! That would be pretty special.
A degree in agricultural economics with a masters in sports coaching, sounds like he'll be the perfect person to field a team of couch potatoes. Fantasy league manager?
I like this kid! He’s going to get plenty of chances to play. His film looks quite similar to Baldwin’s. I am comfortable with Gunnar as our backup.
Go Bucks! The first game can’t get here soon enough.
Fields of Dreams
Hoak grew up rooting for Ohio State – he named the Buckeyes’ 42-39 win over Michigan in the 2006 “Game of the Century,” which he attended, as one of his favorite childhood memories – but he wasn’t offered a scholarship by the Buckeyes out of Dublin Coffman High School.
NH, this is the exact type of backup QB we need to be recruiting from now on to complement our Alpha QB recruit. One who is happy to be at OSU and won’t take off if they don’t necessarily become the starter after a year or two. Better to have Hoak late than never. We will need him should JF goes down.
After watching the Bucks play since the early 70's, I still get excited as the season approaches.Looking forward to the start of the season and see the new QB's play.
Enjoying daily the back to back ttun beatdowns.
Prepare well youngun , you can never tell when your number might be called to step up and perform...
If Gunnar has any of his uncle's (Fred Pagac) blood he will be one tough dude.
First and goal at the five and Arch is getting the ball.
I've been impressed with what I heard and read about Hoak and this article only solidifies those impressions.
Hoak in the 3rdQ at .ichigan. #EPIC

I get the feeling we'll see a good deal of him this year. Got high hopes for this kid!
Him coming home to a much better team than he left and a chance to work towards a championship run is the definition of Win / Win. We needed a hand and you stepped up. Thank you !
He will get several opportunities as we will have comfortable leads in several weeks. Hopefully he has several really great moments as he helps his team keep winning.
Relationships and study will help this youngin when and if he decides to get into coaching. I think its probable he may start some games and as said before he needs to be ready.

He is probably 1 injury away from fulfilling his dream. I hope Day gives him some meaningful snaps for him to remember the rest of his life. I love kids that want to be a Buckeye and dream about it.
I met his family at a graduation ceremony at California in Pennsylvania. I talked with his grandmother and they seem like a great family. If Gunnar is what his Grandma says he is.... I am not worried about our depth. She says he is a hard working, intelligent, respectful young man. Plus we've all had the benefit of watching his uncle and cousin.
At least once over the next two seasons, our National title hopes will come down to Gunnar Hoak making a play.
Coming to play under Day is the perfect place for anyone with coaching ambitions.
Agree... We needed Macejowski, Germaine (at the end of the Rose Bowl), Guyton, Cardale, Haskins (v scUM) and others to step in and win a game on the way to a national championship caliber season.
Clemson's not in the playoff (??) if their second string QB doesn't come in and rescue them from behind versus Syracuse, last year.
We all loved Braxton Miller and did not question him starting over Kenny G.
Before it is over may Fields and Hoak give us the same two years of feeling invincible!
I would rather be on hand with 10 men then elsewhere with 10,000 - Timur Lenk
*clemson game - Kenny should’ve started.
Second half, Kenny starts we win!
He should've at least played when it was visibly obvious that Braxton's shoulder was really bothering him during the game.
Great article and good insight into our presumptive backup QB. Sounds like the kind of guy we want in that spot. However, one of my favorite parts was about Fields!
"Fields has been impressed with the improvement he’s seen from Hoak, too, and has been trying to help Hoak get acclimated to Ohio State even though they’re competing for the same job."
“Leaders create culture. Culture drives behavior. Behavior produces results.” - Urban Meyer
I thought the same! Willing to help Hoak coming in even though they’re competing against each other. Very different than the position Martell took when Fields was coming in.
A friend of mine is a big fan of Kentucky. He said to me the other day, damn, Gunner might actually start for you all? I laughed and said, I hope he never has to start a game, that means things went poorly for the Buckeyes, and explained the situation to him. He said well I think Gunner is good, I hated that he left UK. I said I'm sure he'll be fine, but if he has to play significant time, Ohio State is in trouble this year.
This article makes me feel a little better about him getting some PT if we need it.
Another Kenny G. Love the men who want to play at Ohio state !!!
He gets it.
Smart move. He’ll get to play, and whether he decides to stay in football in some capacity outside of playing, join the media, pursue a career in his field of study, or pursues another line- coming back home and wearing the Scarlet and Gray will help his future more than most other places.
Great story on a local kid. Hope he gets the chance to have some meaningful snaps this year.
