I know it’s just hype right now, but I am really excited for what this team looks like come week 5-6. There may be some rough patches, but the pieces are there to make a really explosive offense
I mean, he better be better than he was in the spring. His spring game stats were probably the worst in the past decade.
spring game stats...not too meaningful. It’s also gotta be the first time in over a decade that a QB transferred onto the team with no starting QB experience and is set to take over the offense. What we have is what we have at this point. Ride or die
Keep grinding, JF - have a great camp.

He's got running back legs. It's impressive.
Makes you wonder if he'll be used in 3rd/4th and short. He's got to be pretty difficult to take down.
He better be. As much as it was frustrating to watch JT do that over and over, it always seemed to work.
Reaching for the prize
Damn that makes me want to eat a cookie.
C'mon, man, adjust the focus to the cookies not the kid. I need to know if those are raisin or chocolate chip.
I cannot wait for this season! He has all the physical tools and he sounds focused and determined to succeed
buckeye born and bread-cris carter
I don’t think opposing defenses have any idea what they are in for. This is going to be fun to watch.
Fields of Dreams
Fields is going to truly be the ultimate D/T QB. The one we've been waiting for!
I've got the same feeling too, JTStan. Everything about this kid says "winner," from his HS coach, to his camp results, to his physical skills to his interviews. I'm super-stoked for this season.
I survived Cooper, and I hate Tai Streets.
“I think I'm way better, just in terms of fundamentals, throwing-wise and just kind of staying in the pocket, pocket presence and all of that,” Fields said. “I think I've improved a lot from the spring.”
Music to my ears!! The timing with receivers wasn't there in the spring game and his stats showed. Another month of practice before FAU should shore things up. Elite play from Fields and a good/great defense will result in a 13-0 record and 1 or 2 seed come December. WHO'S GOT IT BETTER THAN US!?
Don't you bring that ridiculous line into this forum seriously.

See what the young man can do on August 31st. Need to establish a run game with Dobbins and Teague. Hope the defense is better than last season.
Trust words are rarely spoken, BY. Can you imagine if there's a legitimate run game to get this offense through the early part of the season? Holy smokes, this could be special.
Quick, how tall are our interior lineman? Shorter than last year? Our Center is no longer 6’9 you say? Then we should be able to get some leverage on run blocking in 2019.
Great point, Sniper. I always enjoy reading your comments.
Same here, BFB. You’re one of the good guys around here.
"Truer!". Damned thumbs...
Yankee, I truly believe our D will be significantly better. We return most of a D that was improving by the end of last year, and I'm on the train of believers who think our D struggles were scheme/confusion based and we have more simplicity coming. I predict a top-30 Defense.
Straight out of the How To Be Leader handbook.... so glad to see this kind of quote...
And, you know, right when you come into a new place, you can't kind of just come in and just act like you're a leader. You kind of have to get used to the guys and just kind of build relationships with them so they trust you, and then you can kind of step out and become a leader.
That definitely jumped out at me too, Tcm. That showed me a lot of wisdom.
This also stood out to me, as well.
What's equally impressive is that it appears he's not just talking. He's reinforcing his words with actions that are consistent with the leader he wants to be, and the Buckeyes need him to be.

I think everyone should watch QB1 with Fields. It really tells alot about the guy. He def was not a diva and really cared about his team almost to much that he put his body on the line hard core for his team. Good highlight what to expect.
The expectations for Ohio State football are sky high that means the QB expectations are sky high. I, and most on 11w, won't apologize for my expectations being there and neither will the coaching staff. The staff's sky high expectations are what will help this team fulfill its sky high potential.
I don't know if I should be excited about the offense after that Bowen quote or if I should be worried that our defense isn't where it should be at this stage...
"I don't apologize for anything. When I make a mistake, I take the blame and go on from there." - Woody Hayes
Be excited for the offense. I think we're going to be much better on defense. The problem last year was a coaching cluster fuck, not lack of talent.
my horribly over-simplified view...
defense plays up to their talent, with a shaky Fields: 10-2
Fields plays up to his talent but defense plays like last year: 9-3
both aspects come through, 13-0.
If Day decides to use Fields like a battering ram the way JT played I see a one loss season because Fields can throw much better than JT.
Who do you see the loss to, TBall? Any team in particular, or any early game where OSU gets out-schemed, ala VTech 2014? Just wondering. Go Bucks!
Not TBall, but I'm worried honestly about the Cincy game. It's early enough that Fields could still be getting used to things, and I think Fickell, a good defensive mind, will be doing all sorts of different looks to confuse Fields and put pressure on him. I think we'll win, but I fear that game will be ugly or possibly a loss for some reason. I'd love to be wrong.
You have a good point here.
Hopefully if all else fails this turns out like the last Cincy game and we can simply ram the ball down their throats on the ground and power our way to victory.
Also a good point. If all else fails, Dobbins and Fields should be able to run and run and run to victory.
Coach Day should do an epic troll job and have Hoak go out and line up with the offense for the first play, and then call timeout and put Fields in.
Yeah maybe funny, but not very respectful to Hoak.
About 35% completion rate in Spring game was concerning. Coach Day is exactly who can develop his passing abilities. Coach Yurcich is elite as well. Add in.coach Wilson and his experienced wisdom... It's almost not fair. I expect steady improvement and great results. The QB group listed above will also develop our #2 as well. The sky is the limit and I can't wait to watch this season and post season.
I like your thoughts about #2. I think Hoak is probably better than most of us are currently giving him credit for. That's just a feeling.
To even suggest that one of the most dominate HS QBs in resent memory and the winner of the Elite 11 competition (judging the throwing accuracy and arm strength) against the very best QBs in the nation doesn't throw extremely well is... I'll just say, not very smart!
And yet, based upon a glorified scrimmage after 15 practices with a new team, so many here question Fields' ability to do just that.
I truly appreciate the optimism and really hope that JF is everything everyone is saying about him is true (all the prolific passing praise). Not sure where you are getting the "most dominate HS QB's in recent memory" is coming from. He did win the Elite 11 which is certainly nothing to ignore, but in my opinion means that he has all the tools to look good in practice. UGA didn't run an offense, or seemingly didn't even bother to put a package together for him to be successful last year or that that gives us anything that we can judge by. If I were a betting man I would bet that we are going to see a lot of JF running a more similiar style of offense that we saw with JT rather than Haskins. I believe there will be a lot of designed runs and a lot of very quick release style of passing plays where he will have a read or two and if they aren't there then run. At least that is what I expect early until he can gain the trust of the coaching staff. I just don't see him as a drop back and read through a bunch of progressions and make a decision and deliver the ball style player. That isn't a knock, he clearly has the size and speed to be very successful being able to run and the arm strength to be dangerous. I have tremendous amount of confidence that the coaching staff will have the offense geared very much to his talents. We just have to keep him healthy!
RE: UGA. Sometimes coaches just like one guy better than another. We've seen that here. The kid was highly touted, impressed at camps, and while not game proven I believe in a new Day and Day obviously believes in this kid. He seems very level headed and pragmatic, that can't hurt either. He said he came to O State to be prepped for the League not be a running QB. Let's give him a chance and be pleasantly surprised.
Stop drinking the Kool Aid, people. Fields is over-rated until proven otherwise. He’s a black Christian Hackenberg - a 5 star guy who couldn’t throw. I’ll believe it when I see it.

It's still preseason, Bro.
Hackenberg was a 4.8 40 guy. Fields is a sub 4.40 40 guy and would have run the fastest QB 40 if he was at the combine this year..
That Sonofsarek comment was easily the worst I have ever read on 11w and I've been on here for 7 years and that includes everything from last August.
"You're the patron saint of the totally effed" - Hot Tub Time Machine
That says a lot, IBS&G. My nomination is for the guy who always slams Marotti while pushing the Dr. McGuff book, but I get your thinking here.
Bleed, does that include all the hot takes from the “give us your opinions about Buckeye Football with no DVs” forum post from the other week?
Sniper, none of those opinions on that thread are filled with racist BS like sonofsarek, so yeah.
I agree with your sentiment that his opinion is ignorant and off base, but simply calling a black man black, in and of itself, is not the slightest bit racist.
The award today for the Dumbest Hot Take of the Year is for 2019. Winners of the annual Hot Take Awards automatically get placed into the Dumbest Hot Take of the Decade at the end of this year. Please provide your nominations by no later than 30 November 2019, by midnight EST. It's never too late to win!
Another bitter PSU fan? Hackenberg runs a 4.78.
Ive read Justin Fields compared to arm like Elway and legs like Watson.
Holy fucken yikes dog
Good Lord I wish I had downvoting privileges already so I could help spike this comment into the dirt
Upvote to get you there sooner. Once it’s grayed out like that, there’s nothing more that can be done. It’s received it’s max number of DVs.
Christian Hackenberg is a career 56% passer in his time at PSU.
Justin Fields is a career 69% (NICE) passer in his career. If sample size is your thing, Hack exceeded 69 percent 5 times in his career at PSU-three of which came in the first three games he played in where all PSU did was dump off to TE and RB.
Proudly dispensing unbridled arrogance since 1983.
Looks like they are going under center sometimes this year. This will be a good thing.
Would LOVE to see Fields blow up Jake from State Farm in THE Playoffs.

4.38 - 4.43 in the 40 yd is near-Braxton speed. If Fields has some moves to go with the speed, break out the popcorn, folks.
"We get paid to score touchdowns, not kick field goals"
-- Urban Meyer
CowCat just watching the clips of him at Georgia and the long run in the spring game, it looks like power with subtle shift move and then he gone with that speed. I’m with you and will be stocking up on the popcorn!
Braxton ran 4.5. I dont think you people realize how off the charts Fields is. He isnt just a normal 5 star kid.
It's gonna special this year. Will have a few hiccups early as Fields and Day iron the wrinkles out, then look out baby!! Fields will get better at his reads and timing, and while he is, he will be Terrelle/Braxton on the ground which is scary good. Receivers will punish dbacks, JK will punish linebackers and defense will re-establish it's top 15 form. We may lose a game and if we do it'll be a young team making mistakes. Won't happen more than once. But don't expect it.
A 4.4 QB? In a Day offense? Good luck
I know a lot of people grumble about quarterbacks running the ball, but that kind of speed can be put to some very productive uses.
And that's also the reason why Fields has a better chance of winning the Heisman Trophy than Haskins ever would have had, even if (as seems likely) Fields never matches up to Haskins purely as a passer. Heisman voters love those dual threat QBs.
The most "loud mouth, disrespect" poster on 11W.
Glad Fields feels he's "way better", and I have high hopes for what he can do for the team, but I'll wait to hear from Day on his actual progress.
My greatest piece of mind stems from watching his efforts at the Elite 11, I do not like his wind up delivery yet I love his quick decision making and arm strength
A staff like ours will bring out the best in him!
I would rather be on hand with 10 men then elsewhere with 10,000 - Timur Lenk
He reminds me of Terrelle Pryor more than anyone else I've seen lately. Long strides, eats up the ground. Not as quick or shifty as Braxton and stronger than JT. If he can throw the ball even approaching Haskins, he will very successful and the Buckeyes will win a bunch of games with him in the backfield.
Imagine Terrelle Pryor with an experienced QB coach.
Pryor had no natural throwing motion and that takes years to develop going back to youth football. Pryor will always be a WR body and skill set playing QB. His athletic ability allowed him to play Qb at this level.
This is the correct take. Pryor almost looked like he was pushing the ball on most of his throws. Incredible athlete. Had he been a WR earlier in his career, he may have blossomed into a great one.
You're too stupid to have a good time. -Dalton
He has a great skill set, hope he leads us into the playoffs.
His head seems to be in the right place. I think if he's made the man, he will treat it as a privilege and understand the expectations. Hoping to see them name the starter very soon
Urban Meyer left an incredible legacy. 12/4/18 Ryan Day begins his.
Justin will do just fine as QB of the Buckeyes......what I'm really looking forward to is how much he runs and when he runs. I think his ability to run will be huge asset to OSU's offense. Especially so in a 4th and short or 3rd and short situation. Just hope that he runs out of bounds often and not take on defenders when he has the opportunity to avoid them.
Just wanted to give this young man a like. I am so excited for this season. OH!
He said there were probably 5 days over the Summer where they didn't throw. WTF ! Can't take days off. J U S T. K I D D I N G.
So many ask when and how often he will run. I hope it's not too often bc while he's going to be a gifted runner with mad skills, it greatly increases the chance of an injury. The exciting runs are fun to watch but Coach Day has more interest in a healthy QB than one who gets highlights each Saturday night on Espn before getting injured in game 6.
Short term gain, long term pain.
That was a pretty strong statement by Hill about where the O stood immediately post-Dwayne. Everything considered, we might be under-appreciating all of the changes to the QB position this off-season, and that's saying something strong, too..
