Totally unrelated, but does anyone else YouTube the 2018 OSU/*ichigan game and just keep it on the background?
Or am I the only one?
"Hell, Woody didn't recruit me; he recruited my mother!" -Jack Tatum
Totally related. My hype was getting low, watched it two times before reading the Skull.
The other one or are there more?
I may not be the sharpest crayon in the box but I'm one of the most colorful.
Ohio State has had so many fun players to watch over the years, but in the last decade I am hard pressed to think of a guy I enjoyed more than Curtis Samuel. Great to see him still doing his thing in Carolina, and hopefully he stays healthy and the Panthers do get him the ball.
As a near-sighted contact lens wearer, the idea of a lens that would allow me to zoom by blinking sounds perfect. Make this happen for all of us with bad eyesight.
"They say, "these geeks come a dime a dozen. I'm lookin' for the guy who's supplyin' the dimes." -Classy Freddie Blassie
I'm happy for Curtis. He couldn't ask for a better situation to be in than the one he's in currently at CAR. CAR is one of the few offenses in the NFL that has actually figured out to utilize players with Samuel's skillset. A good majority of pro offenses would look at Samuel's skillset and have no clue how to put it to proper use (since running a read-option offense like OSU did under Meyer and like Carolina does now is still considered a widely scorned practice across the NFL landscape).
Only negative is that Carolina has two players with that same skill set and both were drafted in the same year.
True but McCaffrey is no Zeke Elliott. He's about as far from an every down back as you're going to get in the NFL currently so the opportunities are going to be there for Samuel no matter what (especially considering Carolina does line him up at WR a fair amount).
Re: Martinez, put a spy on him, make him throw from the pocket.
Urban Meyer left an incredible legacy. 12/4/18 Ryan Day begins his.
And unless we want said spy to just watch him run for 10 yards, let that spy not be named Tuf Borland.
RER, I thought the same thing (spy) against Trace McSorley last year against Penn State. Bucks may have had Harrison do it for a couple plays, but not enough.
I like this idea (spy) against Martinez, too.
“Being average means you are as close to the bottom as you are to the top.” John Wooden
McSorely was a QB with some running ability, Martinez is a legit dual threat, and from what we've seen is as gritty and tough as McSorely.
I think they put Malik Harrison on him as a spy/delayed blitzer if they can keep him contained and it probably wouldn't hurt to have our more athletic DEs on the field a little more often than we might normally against Nebraska's offense.

Beware you young'ns, you don't want to wish your life away. Compared to us old folks, each day represents a more significant percentage of your life you are just wishing you did not have or you do not want.

The only real thing they all have in common is that they played at Ohio State, and that seems to be enough.
It is the most important thing. It is why they are covered here.
Most of the alternate uniforms suck. Stop fucking up tradition. Glad to know the author acknowledge or figured out they are not a fan backed thing, but a some fan backed thing that can't think unless Nike says to.
Speak for yourself. There are a lot of fans that like them. But our opinions aren't the most important - it's the players that love the alternates.
Speak for yourself. Many don’t like them.
I’m not a fan either, but you are clearly ignorant.
There are very very few uniforms I like better than ours. Such as these:
Ohio State is second but at least Michigan is third.
LSU’s “alternate” home uniform with purple jerseys is #1, which should be their standard home uniform except for some odd reason they (and Georgia Tech) almost always wear white jerseys at home, as well as on the road, which means LSU wearing purple is extremely rare. I can live with OSU’s standard home uniform finishing second to an alternate that gets worn maybe once a year, if even that often.

As long as we don’t play Nebraska at night, we should win comfortably. I’m not buying the hype. Our defense will see a big and better version of Martinez everyday in practice so they’ll be prepared. Plus it’ll be Week 5. Justin and the offense should start to look lethal.
Guarantee it's a nigh game, and the ABC primetime match with Herbie and the crew. This may be a trip up for the Bucks, as long as they don't get blow out. My hunch is a rematch in Indy with an opportunity to get into the playoffs in December. If it ends up being a split-I prefer the Bucks win the second round. Ideally, win both..

I agree, I think I saw somewhere Gameday is going to be there that week too.
"¯\_(ツ)_/¯" - Joey Bosa
Gray sleeves.... please, for the love of God, Gray sleeves.
Yep. Day at least said he'd consider it.
Would have been #1 if we used the gray sleeves.
Yowser! The last 3 nat'l champs were won with the champ uni.
If the Buckeyes’ uni is #2, wtf is #1?
I'd rather be an hour early than a minute late.
LSU’s purple. It’s obviously subjective, but I wouldn’t even think of them for the top five. In addition to the pics I had above, I’d add ND’s home unis and Texas road whites.
Nah, Buckeyes by a mile!
Fantastic hype video, Travis! Awesome work.
Fields of Dreams
I don't give a damn, cause I'm the Man! Love the video tribute and of course the ass beatings. Curtis Samuel is in fact the man. I thonk he's going to have a big year in Carolina.
"I love football. I think it is most wonderful game in world and I despise to lose."
Woody Hayes 1913 - 1987
As a Buckeye fan I hope his QB and Samuel stay healthy. Waiting on Samuel to join/be recognized as one of the elite receivers in the league.
College football is all about tradition. I kind of feel the same way about the uniforms. once or twice a year with the alternative unis, but lets stick with tradition. I did not even like the arm stripe change. I guess I'm set in my ways. Oh hell, I'm old.
m GO BLOW!!!
Are you old, or just have an eye for a real classy look when you see it?
Ooh, well said SilverHaven. Although At best I can hope for both. You know later when I'm real old.
Classic unis (gray and white sleeves, please) ftw.
I get the allure of the alts making an appearance every now and then, but nothing takes place of the standard.
Hindsight is, and in, 2020
Yesterday I had the privilege of taking the grandson to the Panther training camp at Wofford College. Samuels has all the athleticism, attitude, and skills needed for a successful season and NFL career. He just needs to stay healthy.
Too much time spent at the North Heidelberg rather than the classroom. SSD 68-72
Great hype video, Travis. Martinez is very good, but Ohio State's defense will be much improved. I'm more concerned about a Friday game in Evanston. My comfort is that it comes after the first bye week.
When I die, sprinkle my ashes over the 70's
The uniforms were changed well before Meyer. They’ve worn the current stripes since 2006.
Not the pant stripe, which is primarily what I'm referring to and what changes the uniform's overall look, especially when combined with the gray jersey stripes. I'm well aware the jersey stripe was changed when Tressel was here... the overall 'Bruce era' uniform look was brought back by Meyer when the pant stripe was changed in 2013.
Ah, I see what you’re saying. I think that was far more a directive from Ohio State in an effort to brand the stripe (which is now used increasingly, even on the basketball floor and basketball uniforms) than it was an homage to Earle Bruce (even if it was played up that way, but I honestly don’t remember that). Cause now, the helmet, shoulder and pants stripes are all uniform.
Yes, agreed... and the 'homage to Bruce' is entirely my language as I believe Meyer is (was) so enamored with Earle Bruce that he wanted to duplicate the current uni to look like the Bruce era uni... and it does. I prefer the thicker black stripes on the pants and the helmets and the full gray on the jersey sleeves, like the Hayes era, and, at least specific to the pants, the pre-2006 part of the Tressel era. All subjective, to be clear.
Oh I wholeheartedly agree with your preference. I wish they would go back, but I don’t think it’s going to happen
I concur with the Earle Bruce comments above. Well said.
Meyers homage to Bruce is part of what makes him Urban Meyer. Not to mention that loyalty is wooven right into the fabric of his Ohio and Ohio State loyalty.
Good Tuesday all.
I don't mind the alternates that much, but I do prefer the standards. I do like the retro 68 unis for some reason

100% on the "should be the home uniforms" for ALL-TIME!
OH-IO living BACK IN COLUMBUS after 32 years in the ATL.
I'm not the "settle for second" kind of guy, but I'm not about to wage that war when the uniforms he picked aren't even the best uniforms in Ohio State's arsenal.
I'm gonna borrow the motto from my old Army unit, the 2nd Infantry Division:
"Second to None."

To quote a great modern philosopher, "I know I'm gonna get got, but I'm gonna get mine more than I get got though."
You know its a great article when it quotes Beast Mode. Its also the best words he has ever said and that's saying something.
"If Chase Young is truly bigger than I think he is and taller than I think he is, he would probably have to be the literal Predator because I've seen him with my own two eyes and I personally think he's pretty damn Sasquatchian." - Kevin Harrish
I thought the quote from a great modern philosopher was from Omar Little.....
Alright, Nike. So alt unis and all that, but when are you gonna print this silhouette on Buckeye jerseys? Hmmm?
(Hint: not the one by Albrecht Durer.)
For my money Ohio State's traditional white on gray road uniforms are better than any other in the country. Don't @ me.
The home Unis with the grey stripe are so awesome please please go back to those permanently btw the road unis are sweet as well
At lease the picture for the lsu unis was with Joe Burrow.
That's how winners play. We convince the other guy he's making all the right moves.
Huge thumbs up to “ the American Dream “ Colin Haaas-Hill for rocking the Natty light Naturdays. Nothing like cheap, watered down, American made light beer. Love it!
Double fisting too! A proper legend.
I always thought the powder blue UCLA unis were smart looking. And the specialty helmets Army and Navy have worn for their annual grudge match are pretty cool too.
Greatest uniforms ever worn on opposing sidelines in the Rose Bowl... unfortunately, my 13-year-old self cried like a schoolgirl after this game. It was, and remains to this day, my worst moment as an Ohio State football fanatic.
My drunken 18 year old self cried with two of my buddies after this game. It was not the first time, but I swear it was the last time I actually cried after a football game. Honest.
Well, from one old head to another, if tears were ever going to be shed over a game in which we didn't actually participate, THIS was the game. That missed title, one that would've been Woody's sixth national championship, was considered a fait accompli by everyone in America connected in even the most peripheral way to college football. This team beat the brakes off that same UCLA team, in LA, just four months earlier, so the '76 Rose Bowl was considered nothing more than a formality on the way to another OSU title... in reality, this was the beginning of the end of the greatest era in Ohio State football history. Soon, relatively speaking, Earle Bruce would be walking the sideline and 9-3 seasons would become the norm for most of his tenure. I think that's why it bothered me so much when Meyer tweaked the uni back to the Bruce era... it just reminds me of a decade I'd rather forget specific to OSU football. Good teams, not great teams, beat ttun more than they lost to ttun, and played in a couple Rose Bowls... but overall, relative to the standard Hayes had set for decades, Bruce was a disappointment after his first year, when he coached Woody's team to within a point of the national title. It was all downhill after that for Earle Bruce... yet for reasons unknown to me, Meyer seems to think the guy walked on water. I don't get it.
English is confusing. Is leal the real deal, or is it too frail?
Our defense was so bad last year, our former DC still isnt back in coaching yet. Schiano's scheming was horrible and the facts dont lie. He tried to use a Ferrari at a monster truck pull competition. So glad those days are behind us.
I'm not saying he wasn't the problem, but to be fair, Schiano turned down Bill Belichick & the Patriots so he could stay in Columbus so as not to have his children change schools and to spend time with his family.
Actually, Schiano resigned for said reasons after he was hired by the Patriots. Facts are here:
Let’s see where Schiano ends up next.
Time will tell. His first two Buckeye defenses were top 10 in the country.
He was offered jobs at Alabama, A&M, Fla St, and 3 NFL teams.
The Browns and the Bengals have new coaches. I'm still waiting on that Browns vs Bengals AFC championship game.
Curtis Samuel is awesome. Hope he eventually plays for the Browns (or the Bengals) and breaks records. Wish him the best. Yes, I like the Browns and the Bengals.
I'm not trying to win a popularity contest. I'm trying to win football games-- Woody Hayes
I liked the hype video, though the music choice was a bit odd -- a guy singing "I'm the man" with a falsetto voice.
