Man, camp starts this week... we are ever so close to the return of buckeye football!

Urban Meyer left an incredible legacy. 12/4/18 Ryan Day begins his.

I will call myself out here, I'm fully the guy that bitches all off-season that there is no football, then this time every year I'm the guy that's like, "holy shit, the season is about to start? That came out of nowhere!"

Urban Meyer left an incredible legacy. 12/4/18 Ryan Day begins his.

Right there with you.  It will be an exciting season with so many new faces on the staff and on the field.  The talent is there.

Whether it’s a real game or simulated. They should experience no joy even when they’re holding a joystick.

I couldn’t help but notice that Patterson was audibling “98 Weasel.” The last 98 Weasel I remember was Devin Gardner, who was 0-2 against Ohio State wearing Tom Harmon’s 98.

Yesss.

time for Dobbins to shut everyone up because he is the real deal and will play behind a line including dudes groomed to play guard and center.

time for the veteran defense to show that they either have talent or they don’t - and that it was the scheme, or not

time for Fields to ball out surrounded by future NFL players on offense !

I have no hesitation about Ryan Day as coach of the Buckeyes. He has shown great so far and I believe we have only seen the tip of the iceberg.

HS
Sunny Buck's picture

Ryan Day is not intense enough? There are plenty of great coaches who were quietly successful. Tom Landry, the great Dallas Cowboys coach comes to mind.

An EA Sports simulated game? No thanks. Rather watch an OSU classic game on the B1G network. For me, there is plenty enough computer simulated stuff out there.

Good to hear that our Rivalry is still the greatest. We've known it all along. Go Buckeyes.

Was interesting somewhat entertaining and meaningless... with a baseball score ending.

Nonetheless made me think of how exciting this year could be if

a) Dobbins is close to as effective as he was Freshman year (reasonable expectation)

b) Fields can keep it and show reasonable speed elusiveness when defenses start to key on Dobs (not too unreasonable)

c) with our insane WR corps... also have any kind of passing game since that is Yurcich and Day’s emphasis (hellyeah)

d) Defense has a serious point to prove and should have a chip (yes please)

this is an incredibly fun and exciting season coming up with all the unknowns and young potential and new coaches.

Especially with TTUN up to their usual off season world beater trash talking. It’s glorious

I am sure most of America should cut down their sugar intake by 2/3 as the link suggests. I have tried to be better but I certainly do have a sweet tooth and that is sometimes tough to ignore. So many people have health problems, quite often due to sugar, that it is kind of scary.

That rivalry list came out last week and I looked it over on Thursday or Friday. Overall it is ok, and yes it does have OSU/ttun at the top so kudos to that. However Army/Navy seemed way too low and Bedlam looks way too high. I enjoy watching OU/OSU the other, but when the overall tally is 88-18 I am not sure how much of a rivalry that truly is.

I’d say the top five are solid (1. Ohio State-Michigan; 2. Alabama-Auburn; 3. Texas-Oklahoma; 4. Florida-UGA, and 5. Notre Dame-USC) but I can easily see Army-Navy belonging in the Top 5. After that, I have to believe there are rivalries that are better than Oklahoma-Oklahoma State or Washington-Washington State. For one thing, a team should only have one true rival as having more than one dilutes the animus they should feel toward each other.

Schools like Okie State and MSU feel they are rivals with the bigger in state programs like Oklahoma and Michigan while the bigger schools don't feel the same. That creates the true animosity of their "rivalry"

I agree every school should only have one real rival. All others are perceived from the outside of the legitimate ones. Hence why TTUN calls MSU the "little brother" in my opinion. Also having a couple years of close intense games does not create a "rivalry" like some suggest that are true rivals these days are PSU. Good grief.

What were we saying about the butchering of the King's English up north? Sorry, but not exactly a strong showing on that point by Hill. But again, if they did not learn it before getting to college it is not magically going to change during college.

How does EA get around the name/likenesses issue just by updating the rosters? Just curious if anyone knows.

HS
iowabuckeyes's picture

I don’t know enough about video games but a lot would probably depend how extensive its use is commercially and if it’s intended to make money. I’m also not sure how deep it goes into using current players’ “likenesses”—can you pull up their bios and see their faces? Otherwise, it’s basically a computer generated image with guys’ names on their jerseys. If EA did this just for kicks, it may not be a big deal.

HS

They’re not personally updating the rosters. EA just allows you to download custom rosters that others have taken the time to create or update. Not perfect by any means, but I remember it being pretty serviceable.

What we have currently available is what we have available.

Gotta love a good brawl on a cruise ship. Guy wears a clown suit to dinner and people get so upset because they book a cruise that didn’t require “fancy dress” that it turns into a fight? They must’ve been serving nuts prior to the meal.

While the outcome is acceptable, I'll bet my left nut that a Ryan Day led OSU offense scores more than 11 points against UM, especially if Fields is healthy the whole game and Dobbins goes north of 100 yards

Sorry Urban, Woody is still my favorite

HS
TNT's picture

That was my reaction, too. Maybe our offense takes a step back this year without Haskins and a re-tooled O-line, but the M!ch!g@n D will see a comparable dropoff. Even with home field advantage (for M!ch!g@n), that certainly shouldn't equate to a 50-point swing on the scoreboard in the span of just one year unless something goes horribly wrong.

HS

OSU with no TDs is unrealistic. I have Army/Navy right up there with OSU/ UM at the top.

I watched the replay of tOSU-TCU on ESPN last week, and listened to Coach Day's post game comments. Basically he said that games have momentum and a team has to be ready to capitalize at any time-that's coaching and focus, not just "Our average star ranking was 3.95 and theirs is only 3.12, so we should roll them!!!". IMO, Coach Day will be a better sideline manager-clock and game situations than Urban-he is fully into the game, every game, not just "Oh no, I got a migraine b/c the other team does't give a shit about recruiting rankings and is giving us a game!!!"

Sounds to me like you're upset Meyer left.  It will be ok.

Urban may actually be in a better place to help the team now.  He does not have the head coach stress, but still has a hand in the team pot.  I think this may be our best coaching  team ever.  Time will tell.

You should appologize for the comments about Coach Meyer.  You can't knock a guy because he has migraines from a brain cyst.

Meyer is gone. Now we have a coach who will actually pay attention on the damn sidelines.

HS
cledaybuck's picture

While I agree he seems quite a bit more reserved than Meyer from what we see, I don't think it's really fair to judge his intensity from a few interviews in a suit.

Let's just say I fully believe a coach that is outwardly calm can do quite well at Ohio State.

I don't know the particulars, but the on the airline delay hotel mixup, the guy should have just volunteered to sleep in the lobby, or go back to the airport and sleep there.  If woman I don't know said that we are the last two people to need lodging and there is only one room, no way do I share it with her, I volunteer to go without a room for a night.  I probably just tell the desk clerk, I will be sleeping on your lobby couch unless you can find me a closet with a roll away bed or something.

I love this lopsided version of The Game since we're on the winning side of it... the Cooper Era still haunts me today!  Every single year TTUN gets more bitter, angry, and desperate about it, and that bodes well for the good guys!  They are heaping a great deal of pressure on themselves and obviously, they fold like an Ikea table when game day arrives!  I cannot wait to see the Buckeyes carpet bomb this year's version of the rodents!

HS
JTFor President2016's picture

Not surprised about Parris. You could see such an improvement. Imo, the play-calling later (the position he played) in the year seemed to hinder his progression (mainly because our WR room was stacked). Early in the season, there were a few plays where he was used as a traditional receiver, and made great plays on the ball.

Elliott dots the eye, on this national championship win.

I've never been a gamer, so I have to ask:  is this really how EA Sports looks?  I watched about 30 seconds and had to turn it off because the animation was so horrible.  How can anyone play this?

It is, but the game is also six years old. All six-year-old games look like that.
