Ha! Like we haven’t been reading about this stuff enough Taylor...
It’s just salt in the wound.
"You are confined only by the walls you build yourself."
Just like Urban said, I would rather have a 5 star receiver if choosing between a receiver and running back. We will be okay, people. It’s not like we don’t already have some quality RB’s on the team.
TG Proud Buckeye alumnus.
We need depth. Missing out on both would hurt! Don’t kid yourself
It’s not like we don’t already have some quality RB’s on the team.
I agree. I believe that the guys already on the team will show that they are ready for prime time.
Yes, it is good to have the pipeline full. Shooting for the best prospects is the right goal to have as well. There will be more excellent players though, no matter the outcome in any individual case of recruitment..
How they develop is more important than how high they are ranked coming out of high school. This has been proven time and again.
In old Ohio there's a team that's known throughout the land...
Tough to read. Staying positive, though. We will have a great class and the backs who come here will be stars.

side note heard you’re doing real well on the job.
Doug L at cleveland.com gave you a shout out on his pod last week and said what a great job you’re doing.
I appreciate it. I’ve certainly been doing my best.
Hey Taylor, late to chime in, but you've done an awesome job that all of us here look forward to reading. Thanks for your work.

Guess Dobbins having a great year will go farther than the Buckeyes having a great year , it should help recruit top RBs again to the program.
Agreed, if Dobbins gets back to his freshman year production Day and Alford will get a stud to flip.
Missing out on Milton & Robinson?
This news is a bijantic disappointment.
"Day is like a kid who woke up on his 16th birthday to find a Bugatti in the driveway." ~ Tom Fornelli
It's a long time till signing day.
Bummer about Robinson, but Dobbins will ball out this year and I'm actually pretty optimistic about Teague....he reminds me of Carlos Hyde. Not the fastest but he's a bruiser and can make a play on 4th and 1. Still incredibly pleased with this class so far. Go Bucks!
How is Teague like Carlos Hyde? He’s at least 20lbs lighter.
Same running style imo. Just who he reminds me of...you're free to disagree.
And like Hyde, he's sneaky fast.
“The best executive is the one who has sense enough to pick good men to do what he wants done, and self-restraint enough to keep from meddling with them while they do it.” – Theodore Roosevelt
You are WAY off here....Teagues not the fastest?!!?! He ran a 4.31. He is THE fastest back we have....
I frickin love Teague... quick, but built like a cube... red shirt freshman who is gonna get a lot of meaningful snaps this year, to give dobbins a blow... I am excited to see him this year... after reading this, and assuming we miss out on a highly ranked running back, I think we will still be ok, with Teague (RS FR) Crowley and chambers (I’m assuming at least one of those two are gonna red shirt in 2019) I am staying optimistic about Bijan and Knighton, but wouldn’t mind smith or Berger... trust in coach day and Alford to make the necessary moves in order to bring in the best RB to fit the program
Agree with everything you're saying.
But even the staff has a first choice each cycle, and we just missed on ours. We'll be fine, but maybe the first evidence that Day has to prove it- early in his career.
Still psyched about this class, and not trying to rain negativity. It feels similar to losing Akers, Kirk, D Holmes, Marvin W, the list goes on. Can't get em all, but we still have a stellar class.
Kitties aren't supposed to smell like cigarettes, they're supposed to smell like kitties.
GV, I’m right there with ya... plus you can only use the excuse, “next year, we will land a top guy”... I agree coach day has to prove himself IOT put himself as well as tOSU in a position where he can land the top RB, or any position for that matter
Teague is so good.
When he comitted I watched his tape and couldn't believe a "3 star" was blazing downfield so fast in HS. Not surprised he's a 4.3 burner.
Side note Teague was ranked like 600 in the nation when Ohio State offered him. Goes to show the recruiting services are directionally good but boy do they miss on a lot of guys. Don't fall too much in love with those stars.
Agree! Teague is going to have a monster year. By the end, I predict he is splitting carries with Dobbins, much like with Weber.
Sometimes things just do not work out as expected.

I’d be very happy with EJ smith and one of Jalen Berger and Jaylan Knighton.
Just hope we at least get knighton then... Could be pretty similar to Curtis samual.. Really would suck if Robinson doesn't come here.. I wonder why he wouldn't want to come win championships? Texas is still a few years out, talent wise
Well that sucks.
No doubt. RB recruiting has been a disaster. It all started with flirting with Sampson James last year which ticked off Noah Cain and Sampson decommited anyway.
None of it means anything until they sign
They are now crystal balls o'plenty for Knighton to FSU. The visit must have been a good one.
Yep, published a little early on Knighton. Appears the visit went well with Florida State.
Dad is pushing this, similar to when our guy was going TUtun and he said no you’re going to OSu, according to an FSU person dad was putting his foot down
Any possibility this is a result of negative recruiting? Awfully convenient.
Negative recruiting is all part of it. Every single coach and school in the country does it in some form or fashion.
Damn, FSU brought out the honey fried chicken!
Let's welcome a couple of 3-star RBs then, enough with worrying about this.
Find a 3-star who can (1) catch the ball out of the backfield and (2) pass block. Having a 4.4. 40 is nice but not necessary.
We're going to be fine.
It's late July, it's hot, and we just can't wait for football to start!
Screw pass catching TBs. I want someone built like a tank and can tote the rock between tackles.

Got M...igan gossip? Bang it here.
Ole- exactly who are those prospects names?
The oline will open up big holes, hence I agree with you.

"Conversely, Urban Meyer and his players are an unstoppable army of football automatons that feel no emotion and win in any and every setting."
We have plenty of talent on campus. Plenty of other guys to recruit and next years class. I’ve never understood how fans get so hung up on one kid then get depressed. Who cares? Acted the same with Cam Akers and we survived
It’s always the next year....
Spot on, BuckeyePat.
While losing Robinson or Milton isn't good news, because we won't have an even more obscene embarrassment of riches, there's every reason to believe that Teague and Crowley (if not other guys on the roster) could be future stars that carry a high-flying run game through 2023, which would leave us with, oh, 'only' another three or four years to recruit a slough of other--maybe better--top-notch RBs.
Call me crazy, but I kinda like Day's chances of signing a 5-star quality RB over the next couple of years to keep the pipeline flowing.
Plus, who's to say someone like Knighton won't now have a change of heart (given Robinson's shift to Arizona) and wind up being the next Rondale Moore, and then suddenly, nobody's noticing that our cupboard of RBs is allegedly bare?
Besides, as we all know, the top RBs are well aware of which top programs have the most room on their rosters for more running backs, as well as who has the biggest need for fresh talent, which,.of course, translates to a better chance for them to start earlier.
Ergo, if we don't have a big signing in 2020, all is not lost.
In short, even if OSU doesn't sign Evans, Milton or Robinson in the 2020 class, it:s a pretty good bet that we'll sign the next Evans, Milton, or Robinson in 2021, especially after Dobbins leaves for the NFL and becomes a 1st round pick after racking up 2,000 yards in 2019.
Or maybe we'll "only" sign the next Ezekial Elliott or J.K. Dobbins, which obviously would be a huge disappointment since--unlike the 5-star-rated Evans, Milton or Robinson--those lowly scrubs were merely 4-star RBs.
In summary, now that I think about it, yep, I have to admit, the Buckeye's situation is utterly hopeless. Heck, I'm not sure why we even bother to schedule any future games, when it's clear we'll have no future without Bijan Robinson.
I mean, geez, at this point, let's face it--we just can't match what a program like Arizona has to offer per their great history, all of their championships, the national stage they offer for recruits, their big fan base, their track record for putting RBs in the league, and on and on.
Like I said, when you really, really think about it, if we fail to land Robinson, it's pretty much game over for OSU football.
Granted, I thought the Tressel and Meyer scandals were harbingers of doom, but clearly, not signing Robinson is a bridge too far.
The cupboards ain't bare at RB in Columbus. Besides, signing day is still a few months down the road and a lot can change between now and then.
What surprises me more is that Texas had to leave the state to get a five star running back ( if they get Robinson).
What in the world are you rambling about?
Remember when people freaked when Kareem Walker de committed? Worked out fine
Welp, I guess now's as good a time to panic as any.
"The only thing necessary for the triumph of evil is for good men to do nothing." - Edmund Burke
I don’t think panic is the right word. There are plenty of ways to have strong running games without recruiting 5• RBs. Look at Wisconsin. They always have solid sturdy guards who can push DL guys around to all 3• recruits go on having 2,000 yard seasons.
Panic? Ha. You either win with us or get beat by us. Ohio State be alright.
Buckeye swag, love it kid.

I wonder if Robinson really does commit elsewhere what effect it might have on Trayanum.

Caring about football recruiting is silly
But caring about such things is fun. Nothing wrong with getting into the highs and lows of the journey (as long as you NEVER tweet at recruits).
If it's the weather and being close to home, I can't blame them. Ohio State really should have stuck with Trayanum, but that ship has sailed
Said that a few months ago
Didn’t he have a commitable offer though? He just didn’t want to be the 2nd RB in the class, which the staff was honest about in taking 2 this cycle.
You're too stupid to have a good time. -Dalton
What the hell just happened?
Buckeye Til I Die
They’re whiffing on both supposed to be a lock less than 24 hours ago.
Recruiting 17-18 year-olds is what happened. It is part of the process. If I'm not mistaken there hasn't been a signing day for any player in the country yet. They are all still verbal commitments. There is always the portal/s. Go Bucks
May be our pass happy offense last year turning off top tier RBs.
You certainly have to consider that thought. I sure hope not. You still need to have that bell-cow back or you become a BIG-12 type team. I don't believe that will happen...too much RB history here. Not gonna panic, but I have to admit, this really sucks.
If you have two people that agree on everything, that only means one of them is not thinking at all.
Bad assumption. Running issues last year were due to lack of blocking up front. That will be fixed
I don't think Highfive was assuming, but rather questioning. Fair imho. Most recruits are going to go by what they see rather than going by a promise that some issue will be " fixed. " We lost this round, hopefully we win the next.
Will it be fixed? I hope so. I hope I’m wrong but I think a big part of the problem is Coach Dud.
And just what "problem" is that? Kids deciding to stay closer to home? Get real.
The problem was completely incompetent run blocking.
so it'a reasonable to think that Fleming, Scott, Cooper, and Njigba were impressed by the last years passing game, but it's unreasonable to think that RB's might not be so impressed?
We had 2 backs that ran for over 1,000 yards last year. It my have been a down year, but it certainly wasn't a bad year.
Right on Brutus!!
Not really. Our top two RBs had 2,077 rushing yards and 15 rushing TDs. If one of last year’s RB had been dominant enough to be a clear starter, they probably would have had 1,700 yards and 12 touchdowns. That’s enough production to get any RB excited. The passing game is not detracting from RB production.
I don't think it's crazy to wonder if that's the case. The flipside of all those headlines about the elite wideout prospects we've gotten commitments from might be elite backs wondering if there's still a place for them at OSU. And let's face it, our running game was ordinary for large chunks of 2018.

Not the best way to end the week.....
On to the next guys.
Fields of Dreams
Steele Chambers anyone? LB seems to be under control.
I’ve said this before many times on here but I’ll say it again, Chambers impressed the hell out of me from the RB position in his highlight video. It made me wonder why you’d even think of taking this guy out of the RB spot. He’s big, he’s strong, and he’s fast.

It's like there's some invisible "dark matter" that exerts a freakishly strong gravitational pull on recruits. Maybe scientists will one day help sports journalists figure out what it could be.
(Seriously, tho, the funniest thing about college football "journalism" is the silent pretense, shared by most every site, that payment negotiations don't affect these decisions. I don't begrudge players and their families one penny of these earnings. They were just born into this system and didn't make the rules. But it's funny that virtually no one will even try to report on the elephant in the room because "then I would lose access!" PS: Who knows specifically what's happening in Bijan's case. Maybe he just realized the weather will be a lot nicer in Austin.)
The part about boosters freezing out unpopular coaches had me wondering about Charlie Strong
Who keeps spreading the rumor that Knighton isn't an every down back and won't be ready to play right away??? Who said??..... he's not going to get any taller but who cares??? He's 195 pounds and has jets!!! AND we'll still have Mccall, Teague, Chambers and Crowley... why does the freshman need to be ready right away?? Those guys can play too!!! Get Knighton and we'll be more than okay.. he's a beast!!!
He’s not and he admits to it
Please provide link...
You OBVIOUSLY haven’t followed his recruitment. What do you think we were selling him on? 3 down / 20 carry a game back? I’ll answer that.....no
I've followed his recruitment for over the past year and ive only heard the media say he wasnt an every down back... NEVER him. I believe we were selling him on the opportunity to be a running back in the Ryan Day offense. The same we were selling Chambers, Crowley and Robinson on.
I dont need you to answer that.. i need you to provide the link. can you do that? ill answer THAT... no
Not true. He was told an H back / RB hybrid. It’s been like that for months. If he thought he was an every down 15-20 carry back, he wouldn’t have come in to compete with Bijan.
No thats what YOU were told.. lol and the last i heard he ISNT coming in to compete with Bijan. The plan is to bring in 2 running backs and one H. Cooper is the H.. Bijan/Robinson were the backs. nottt 2 H's and one back... its really not that hard to figure out, 19
I don’t know that I’ve ever heard Knighton say he wasn’t a 3-down back, but he’s pretty obviously not a 3-down back. He’s mini—at least at this point. And Cooper is a slot receiver, not an H. Though we will see how the ‘H’ continues to evolve.
"Evil shenanigans!" - Mac
He's 195 pounds as a high school senior... at 5'9. That's not mini. He's 10/15 pounds away from what his college weight goal will be with 365 days to gain it. He's bigger than mccall NOW but runs with a mean streak. That doesn't sound so obvious to me.....
Let’s - quit trying too hard. Really. He was a compliment to Bijan. Please keep up on your recruiting
From the looks of it some of us have to try harder than others...
There’s no mistaking his size. He’s mini. 5’9” and 195 lbs is f*ing mini for a college running back. Now, you wanna talk slot receiver, that’s a different story.
Look... Darren Sproles is 5'4" in cleats walking down a concrete tunnel (I met him). He went on to have a long NFL Career as I recall.
Don't tell me a shorter back can't be an every down back in college football.
"Cry havoc, and let slip the dogs of war."
And K State was a line em up, smash mouth football team either. Smaller backs just aren’t cut out for it. Can you can say Maurice Wells?
Sproles wasn’t close to a 3-down back in the pros and he played in the big 12, which for every RB playing on a team besides OU, UT, or TCU, is basically a third down back.
I get that, but it feels like you’re speaking to the anomaly. For every Darren Spriles, there’s a thousand small backs who play complimentary roles as ‘third-down backs.’ And it’s getting even tougher for the smaller back to stay on the field because teams don’t game-plan around the RB like they used to—they plug and play.
Beat Bama and Clemson in the playoffs and the rest will resolve itself. The Bucks currently have the most talented team right now, based on recruiting rankings. Meyer’s best two recruiting classes are sophomores and juniors, ripe to win a National Championship!
Yep, Buckeyenation, and I can't wait to hear the national narrative change after we win it all.
Right now, all the hype is that Bama and Clemson are alone at the top with maybe only Georgia knocking at the door, but if OSU wins the Natty, they'll be every bit the equal to anybody over the past six years with their future every bit as promising.
Problem with that is the majority of the recruits sign a month before the CFP...
Drama is a drug best left alone.
Height is not necessarily a +ve for an RB. Bulk is. A 5’10 225lb back is far more effective between tackles than a 6’1 220lb back.
I think our running woes started with Urban completely mishandling the Warriner situation. Warriner’s OL knee how to run block, Stud is clueless. They should’ve simply raised Warriner’s pay without handing him responsibilities he couldn’t handle. Like they did with Larry Sr.
Warinner is huge for Michigan. OL recruiting has improved massively with him (don't know why his recruiting at OSU sucked.) Michigan's OL has been terrible for a dozen years. 2019 is the first year since Carr where the OL looks cohesive. And depth is finally enough that true freshmen never have to play, but can just redshirt. There are 4 OL in 2021 from Michigan in the top 100 recruits, along with two solid DL guys. If Warinner can lock those guys down, and end up with another 5 commitments in 2021, to add to the 4 OL guys commited in 2020, Michigan will finally be set at the OL. About time!
And will still get throttled by The Ohio State University. That is all.
Fuck eSECpn and fuck Mythigan.
2016 Weber 1096 yds. 6.0 ypc
2917 Weber 686 yds. 6.2 ypc; Dobbins 1403 yds. 7.2 ypc
2018 Weber 954 yds. 5.5 ypc; Dobbins 1053 yds. 4.6 ypc
Your comment seems reasonable? Don't let facts get in the way.
Maybe Day can have Hartline or Hafley start recruiting the RBs since Alford clearly can’t close on any big time backs.
Don't listen to Freddy P. Soft
So last week why weren’t any of you bitching about his recruiting? He was amazing! Now two kids have a potential change of heart and now he sucks? All after us have about a 15% chance at Robinson 3-4 months ago?
I wasn’t thrilled about his recruiting last year. He landed a kid that may end up at linebacker and a kid that was a last minute offer. Maybe one of those kids ends up being a decent back but neither one was considered a highly regarded elite RB prospect. Had he landed Robinson and Knighton it certainly would’ve made up for last year but if he whiffs again that’ll be two years in a row that he hasn’t signed an elite RB and that’s a huge problem when you’re selling a product like Ohio State. If a coach can’t recruit an elite back when the Dallas Cowboy’s backfield is loaded with Buckeyes, one of which is arguably the best RB in the league and Dobbins will most likely be drafted next year then you aren’t very good at your job. People have been killing Stud for his recruiting and the O line recruiting has been way better than the RB recruiting. Hopefully he can salvage this thing and land a couple of elite backs but if he doesn’t he will certainly deserve the criticism he will receive.
So when did this go from something Kurelic indicated and something that was confirmed that the staff got this news.
That's what I'm wondering.
FSU seems likely to implode this season like last season so time for Knighto, once that happens and Bijan’s parents are religious, maybe ZS has pictures of Herman back in the strip club days,Beck, seriously?
So you’ve never been to a strip club. Got it
If you’re going to strip clubs, you’re not taking Christianity too seriously.
Hope we get Robinson based on what I've read. But remember Walker and Green? Seems like we passed/(lost out) on them but ended up with a less heralded guy named Zeke. Teague is going to be good.
And Crowley isn't too hateful either.
Well, that update was a disaster.
Pain of Discipline
Pain of Regret
Take Your Pick
When you can’t make it through the rest of the Hurry Up bc it led off with such gut-punching news.
Looks like it will be the second year in a row whiffing on top targets and having to settle for plan b guys. Should Alford start to feel some heat?
Absolutely not. He should be graded on production, not stars.. we haven't even seen what these backs can do yet! lol
No. Should Wisky's RB coach feel the heat b/c they can';t out-recruit Bama and Georgia for the 5 star backs? Oh, wait, they are a pipeline for stud RBs somehow.......
RB is the position where you want to whiff, if you're gonna whiff. Plenty of athletes out there who can be handed a ball and told to run with it.
This is true-Chambers and Crowley are both bruisers.
Even accounting for the #teen factor, that feels like a pretty wild swing for Bijan. I wouldn’t think it’s a concern about a pass oriented offense as that isn’t exactly new news. Is this something where we changed our mind on him? I don’t have any reason to believe that except for the seemingly huge swing from write in ink to pretty much no chance of him at OSU. Maybe just the vagaries of dealing with high school kids.
How firm thy friendship
My guess is that the "Robinson to OSU is a done deal" talk was never quite true in the first place. We were in the thick of it of course, but he decided on another finalist. I like to think he did our staff a favor by letting them know as soon as the dead period was over so they could move on, rather than stringing us along for another week.
There's still a ways to go. Nothing is set till they actually sign. And he's going to have Ransom in his ear for the next few months. A disappointing season for Texas (or whoever) and a good season for Dobbins and who knows?
Multiple insiders have said that he told the coaches he was in. He changed his mind. Or his family did.
At this point I’m all in on EJ Smith. He’s obviously got the pedigree. Tough break on Robinson, but that’s recruiting.
Urban Meyer left an incredible legacy. 12/4/18 Ryan Day begins his.
Stanford is the competition. We should make a strong push now. At 5' 11" he could be a 3 down back.
Mr. Robinson, Texas won't get past Oklahoma. You could have been with us instead of against us. Your choice.
That's recruiting, ya know? And whose to say that even when he commits it's a "done deal?" It's a fast-paced animal, we'll get our guy one way or another.
I'll be honest, if I had to choose between Knighton and Robinson, I'd choose Knighton. I'll take the 2nd best RB out of S.Florida over the best back in Arizona any day of the week. Were there any reason$ for Robinson's change of mind or is just the type of recruit who falls in and out of love with schools quickly, depending on the visit?
The problem with Knighton is, he's not a 3 down back because of his size. You need a big bruising back that can wear down the defense. I'll go to my grave saying if Bama didn't run Henry the entire Sugar Bowl, Ohio State loses, because they couldn't stop him.
We have bruisers on the roster in Chambers, Crowley, and Teague. Robinson wasn't exactly the next Carlos Hyde either. Bottom line-tOSU will be fine, and S.Florida will continue to be the deepest talent pool in the country, imo.
He is taller than JK and Mick can add 10 quick pounds.
I heard that both Robinson and Knighton are backing off because they heard that OSU is finally going to make the tight ends a bigger part of the offense.
Meh I dunno if that's a qualifying reason for not being THE feature back for a program like OSU. I think Robinson was a geographic location issue. And I think knighton (if we lose him) was just a product of being in Dade county Florida.
"No we don't give a da*n 'Bout the whole state of *ichigan"
What did it sound like when that joke went over your head?
I'll believe recruiting is suffering at OSU when I actually see it. I haven't seen it yet. In many years. I mean, it is hard to feel bad for you in the least when you have the #4 class already, and when you already have two 5 star recruits committed.
Yup, all these "omg the sky is falling" posts are pretty comical. Like the loss of one HS kid is going have any lasting effect on a program like OSU.
Losing a non-Texas recruit that was basically already committed to OSU to UT and Tom Herman/Tim Beck is gonna hurt if this happens. Gonna be real interested to hear the story behind this one when it gets revealed. Unbelievable.
USC is the likely destination according to BK.
Yeah, he wants to play for Urban.
Garrett Wilson sends his regards.
What’s wrong with Texas? Ever been to their campus and to a home game? They don’t lack appeal
The fucking way she goes boys...
All Glory is Fleeting
This is the ugly side of recruiting for any school. I'm sure both of them are getting it from both sides and I still believe that being closer to home was the deciding factor. I lost count of the recruits that could have been at Ohio State and some had great careers and others never lived up to the hype. The Buckeyes will be fine, they'll just have to go to plan B. I've never been a huge fan of the number of stars next to a player. Go on 247sports and look up at the top 50 players out of high school from the past decade and over half of them never amounted to anything, especially at the next level, but some of the lower ranked kids did.
Same can be said for great HS players who came here and never panned out.
If we miss on both Knighton and Robinson it may be possible to flip Trayanum. His biggest concern was coming in with a five star back and, if that is no longer the case, perhaps he will reconsider.
Anything can happen from here on as history has shown. I wouldn't hold my breath on a lot of these so called "commitments" because some of the kids are so fickled these days.
Day can’t close the deal on big name recruits. This position will likely be filled by a no name 3* and buckeye fans will clamor on about how mr no name is the next Barry Sanders and will start right away leading us to a national championships.
If these kids don't want to be far from home or for whatever reason, what is Day supposed to do? That's the reality whether it's Saban, Dabo, or Day. They can't control what an 18 year wants to do.
Barry Sanders was a GREAT HS RB
He was, but nobody knew about it. He only had 2 offers, Oklahoma State and Tulsa. Also didnt start full time at RB until his senior year.
And didn’t start at Okie state until his junior year...some guy named Thurman Thomas kept him at bay.
So Taylor, can you provide more information as to what he changed Robinson’s decision?? I haven’t gone to the other site to read what Kurelic said.
Did Tom promise him lap dances at the strip clubs and flight attendants on the side??
Thought I read that Bijan's grandpa was a college referee, covering many PAC games. Maybe the reality of leaving home really hit the young man and he felt it would be too much. That's fine, better now than a year from now. I wish him well, and we will sign a running back who wants to win championships and, more than anything, be a BUCKEYE.
Any RBs in the transfer portal now or look like potential canidates next year?
All portal kids have been gone for months. Next slew won’t begin until December
Picks a team that lost 4 games and averaged less than 4 yards a carry in the Big 12 for God’s sake. Won’t even sniff the playoffs
Foregoes a chance to be a featured back in an offense with a powerful passing game that averaged more rushing attempt than Texas.
Makes PERFECT sense. WTF!?
So tell me EXACTLY what he and his parents were looking for in a school?
He hasn't picked a team yet, you are speculating.
"I don't want to be around average, why be around average!" -UFM
I have said a million times there is not a lot of difference between number 1 rb to number 50 rb and some years even goes deeper. WR the same way name a team that doesn't have at least one good one. Not saying I wouldn't prefer Robinson or Milton. Maybe we can flip the Ohio kid at Arizonia now since the players he worried about are no longer in play
If OSU was still relying on a Meyer offense that relied heavily on QB runs, I think this would be easier to swallow, but when you're trying to transition to a pro-style system, it's a lot more important to get the RBs that Bama and Georgia are landing.
Antonio Pittman was a really good RB, but we'd all take Beanie or Jonathan Stewart over him, and they were capable of carrying the offense for periods of time.
OSU will recover just fine, but there's no reason they shouldn't land a top RB more than once every 14 years.
Oh that’s not true at all.
He would have a great change to be the starting RB at OSU in 2020 assuming Dobbins goes pro. I hope he changes his mind back to us!

If a croot chooses another program over Ohio State because he wants to put his career in the hands of Tim Beck then I'm afriad that's a croot that, let's just say, doesn't have the wonderlic test score I'm looking for on my team.
What does Robinson want out of college?
I'm coming down here to just say, I thought we had Bijan and hope we still do. But that's the way the ball bounces if he chooses another. We still have a couple on the team and whose to say that scared him off. Teague will be fine as a pounder. With the new direction of the qb, the get of Drennen or Smith is huge if Knighten choices to go somewhere else too.
Frankly speaking, there are plenty of running backs that can be great, despite being considered 3* performers in HS .... The difference between a good back and a great back boils down to one major factor - a good offensive line .... I'm not sure that the Badgers have ever recruited a 5 star running back, but thanks to great offensive lines, they're produced a ton of great backs ...
Give me a solid offensive line and watch them make the backs look like superstars .....
Buckeyes will be ok, we have had backs play to levels of the hyped 5 star recruits. Personally strong 4 stars are probably better than a 5 star who would be heading to the league after their sophomore year. this also opens options for the next recruiting cycle. Its clearly not the end all, be all concern. There have been just three 5 star running backs at OSU since 2000. Two were awesome, one didn't stick around.
Considering the two that stuck around, neither won the Heisman or the rushing record in the NCAA. they were both worthy of their 5 star ratings and obviously significant in the laurels of OSU football. Before ratings on 247 or ESPN, I am not sure where Hopalong or Archie would be, so I am not purposely discounting them.
Here are a few that were extremely important to OSU: Antonio Pittman wasn't a 5 star, Eze wasnt a 5 star, Mike Weber wasn't, JK wasn't, El Guapo wasn't, Keith Byers, nope, Robert Smith wasn't. The last two were Maurice Clarrett and Beannie Wells. Clearly Eddie George wasnt a five star.Tim Specer had 3500 yards for OSU,
Point being, of course 5 stars are very welcome at OSU and generally very productive, but not sure the drop off between 5 and four stars is that huge/important. I hope we get the best players, but in a vacuum, I believe it is not hardly worth freaking out over.

Kids can’t leave after their sophomore year FYI
And Antonio Pittman, Eze, JK, Keith Byers, and Robert Smith were recruited by the world so your comments are way off base. Don’t have to be a 5 star to be heavily recruited.
Is this where I’m supposed to say “they are just kids, best of luck”?
Teague, Crowley, and Snead. Gill if we need him. Bummed about the news, but guys, there are lots of dudes on this roster with potential star power already.
Uhhh Snead isn't even with the program anymore.
With that being said. The point isn't that we don't have any RBs. It's that you need a steady influx of new guys ready to take the reigns as the "old" guys rotate out due to eligibility, injury, or early departure to the NFL. And some guys just don't work out (like Snead).
This is disappointing news. And what's most frustrating about it is that it appears it was an issue of geographic location. Which is hilarious considering the only difference is a 3.5 he flight vs 2.5 hrs.
I don't know... I'm just trying to figure out how guys like Dobbins, McCall, Teague, Crowley, Chambers and maybe Gill all became so slow... and how 2 high school kids suddenly became faster than all of them. Everybody here acting like it's MgoBlog or something... smh. Think we are going to be just fine.
Speed isn’t everything. Dobbins will be gone after this year and McCall will likely never be a starting RB at OSU. Recruiting and rosters are a numbers game. The more talent you have on the roster, the better your chances are of having a talented starter. Our odds get worse for a year or two out if he goes elsewhere. We still have shots with Teague and Crowley, but the odds are objectively worse. Good management is done at both the individual level and the aggregate.
Teague, Crowley and STEELE. Not to mention the 2 backs we bring in this year. We'll be fine...
The wide receiver position is stacked for years and we are struggling with RB recruiting. Strange times.
I remember when we couldn't get a 5 star DT. Seems to me, our 3 stars are holding onto that position pretty well.
To go 0-3 indicates a serious mis read by the staff. What gives?
At this time, it is still just a prediction.
I wouldn't be surprised if the comment "We're not going to run the ball as much" (or something like that) as reported by an OSU WR recruit referring to a conversation with Coach Day, in last years recruiting cycle.(Maybe someone can fill in with more specifics).
If a coach recruiting against OSU hears that, it's got to be whispered somewhere along the recruiting trail.
Birm is taking his time on this one. I think we get the scoop on what really happened soon.
Like the old saying goes......Next Man up-
Enjoying daily the 62-39 ttun beatdown.
Told ya'll he wasn't coming 2 months ago....
Two months ago he was a long shot so of course you did. This month he told the staff he was coming.
I fell into the trap as a fan of kind of assuming that a big time prospect, in this case a RB was headed towards committing to OSU. I know that should never be the case. Even if the Bucks got Milton or Robinson, it was going to be work keeping them committed until the early LOI day. No reason the opposite can't apply, and keep recruiting them for a flip. Regardless, OSU is in good hands and feet this year with Dobbins, and if Day leads the team to a playoff appearance, a lot can change.
I will be extremely disappointed if we swing and miss on Kendall Milton or Bijan Robinson and Jaylon Knighton !!
Especially if we lose Bijan to Texas. Kendall to Georgia, Jaylon to FSU.
Not to mention losing out on a stud in our backyard with DeaMonte Trayanum !
I really was wanting us to get Michael Drennan III over Jaylon Knighton for the APB !!
We sure have been missing out on a lot of RB targets the past few years...…. :(
Top of the food chain
I really hope Bijan’s decision isn’t just based on wanting to be close to home, and I certainly hope it’s not family members pushing that.
i’d get It though. I’d completely understand. I know if my kid ever has this kind of opportunity when he’s older it would be a tough pill to swallow..
At the end of the day though I’d merely say go live you’re dreams.
And if those dreams are playing for a college football championship. If those dreams include being a 1st round draft pick. If those dreams include having a long lucrative NFL career..
Honesty you’d have a hard time convincing anyone that that Texas or USC is even in the same ball park over the past decade of helping young men accomplish those things. That’s just the honest truth.
You can stay close to home, or you could go be a freakin dude;)
And the reality of the situation is Bijan’s destiny hopefully is going to take him far from home for the next 15 years. You want a family I hear there’s a lot of Ohio State football players in the NFL and the number is going up rapidly. That brotherhood is the closest your going to get to family for hopefully the next decade+;)
The news is not what I was hoping to hear, but kudos to Bijan for letting the staff know now instead of dropping the bombshell on commitment day, or worse, on NSD. I imagine it can be hard for kids to deliver bad news to a coach he may have developed a relationship with. Glad that didn't string it out longer if this is the decision..
