Can they catch him? No they can't, touchdown.
Day better be careful. Claiming one of his biggest influencers is somebody who has controversy with him all the time like Joe Btfsplk with his little dark cloud might be dangerous. For the youngsters that is a Li'l Abner reference.
I don't buy one goddam drop of gas in the state of Michigan!
Plus one helmet sticker for the obscure Lil Abner reference!

Since when is it obscure?
My DVR block is finishing up. :)
I was really hoping for an "and so forth" to be inserted somewhere in all that coach speak
Leave one wolf alive....and the sheep are never safe
I agree with everything Coach Day said except referring to a QB battle. No one on the planet believes that there will be a legitimate QB battle in fall camp.
Outside of that, a relatively uneventful press conference, which was much nicer to watch than what happened a year ago.
I want a fall Saturday in Ohio Stadium..
I'm guessing he promised Hoak a shot to compete for the job when he transferred here, which is what you should say to anyone. If he were to name a starter now before they've even had a single practice he'd be going back on his word. We all know how the battle will eventually play out, but nothing wrong with keeping the job technically open for now.
Agreed, except as modified below . . .
We all know how [we think] the battle will eventually play out, but nothing wrong with keeping the job technically open for now.
Our honor defend, so we'll fight to the end !
If Hoak beats out Fields our season is doomed.

Tuf Borland is "being pushed" by Teradja Mitchell at middle linebacker.
Keep pushing pls
Was just about to copy / paste myself.
Not to pick on Tuf but we need something to happen for us at the LBer spots.
IT. WAS. A. FUMBLE.
Let's hope Werner is being pushed as well.

I hope he and Harrison are being pushed to be the very best LB's we have, I would think by the way - that would be important! Interesting that he did not say Browning was pushing or being pushed which would signal a clearer picture at starting MLB than many would have guessed
I would rather be on hand with 10 men then elsewhere with 10,000 - Timur Lenk
harrison already is the best LB we have.
Push Teradja!!!! Push with all of your might!!! For the love of god please push!!!
Don't listen to Freddy P. Soft
Agreed. So glad to hear Mitchel is pushing, just getting Borland moving is a miracle.
Very good job by Coach Day! That man certainly has his act together.

Going back to his interim gig last year, it’s clear he is a natural at this.
Most definitely. It's going to be fun to watch the Day Era.
My expectations for him are big. Probably too big.
Going back to his interim gig last year, it’s clear he is a natural at this.
Yes, he has some presence, and he speaks well. OTOH, there's no controversy to deal with; these were softball Q's.

I hope this man is at OSU for a very long time.

. . . and thrilling Buckeye fans.
As long as all he had to do is hold press conferences, we're set
Interesting omission on Browning's name. Still think he would be suited best on the outside vs. MLB.
Really getting the awful feeling that Browning is going to end up being one of those head scratcher players. How the hell is it that someone so physically gifted not able to make a dent in the lineup? I’m praying that he figures it out because he’s a physical freak.
Schiano and Davis had these guys filling gaps at the line and thinking too much last year. They paralyzed them. I think we will allow these guys to use their natural instinct and play as fast as their talent.
I feel OSU's Defensive Staff has 'been blind' not to see Browning should have been made into an edge-rusher DE very early on in his career -- just 'pin his ears back' and use his outstanding athleticism to just go get the QB -- he clearly has scuffled with 'thinking/reading plays/grasping his duties at LB' -- very hard to "learn that stuff" -- most great LB's are just "Born to be LB's" -- he clearly lacks those natural instincts for that position -- the Staff has been negligent not putting him in a better position to succeed based on his capabilities both physically/mentally...
I'm sure Coach Day could use your insight into the team, Stu.
Damn straight...this insight is ten times better than anything stu9 contributed.

How the hell is it that someone so physically gifted not able to make a dent in the lineup?
Obvious answer here but that's simply half of the equation. There are plenty of "physical freaks" out there that just aren't all that great at football. This isn't NCAA 14 where just because a dude has "89 speed" you plug him in at OLB and he's a monster.
Just watching the video that was posted. He does mention Browning right after Mitchell. And like you, I think you will see him at other LB spots.
Missing from the recap. Day did mention Browning and pretty much every other scholarship LB.
As I posted earlier in thread I am hoping that it is a battle for back up MLB where Browning is the starter. If not then he is set to spend the rest of his career as a back up or worse a cautionary tale. He is not going to beat Harrison on the outside and for him to switch to strong side and learn yet again ANOTHER set of responsibilities seems like a quick way to end his play period!
I thought he mentioned him? I will go back and check. His name was in the mix after further review
Save that picture for comparison at the end of the season... This job is like the presidency in terms of aging a man.
I give it 18 months before we see distinct gray hair.
Elliott dots the eye, on this national championship win.
He got that SWAG!
Urban Meyer left an incredible legacy. 12/4/18 Ryan Day begins his.
I’m F-n excited!
“SWING!....... SWING!!........ SWING!!!!!!!”
I want to see everybody push everybody. Push the best to the top! It's a new Day, so everybody has a shot at the starting positions.
If Warner isn’t being pushed after last year performance. Yikes man. I thought getting rid of Davis was going to be impactful.
"Making the Great State of Ohio Proud!" UFM
Not sure who that guy you referred to is?
Werner was not said to be being pushed - given all the comments regarding the strength of our new coaching staff and them owing no allegiance to our current players that would lead me to be hopeful NOT scared!
Who is Warner? Werner is going to excel in new schemes. They all made mistakes last year, including Harrison. Werner had plenty of key plays. Coach Matty likes him for a reason. Trust the system.
We are going to need all our LBs to get the job done.
You gotta love this guy!
I'd rather be an hour early than a minute late.
He is very cool and confident. A good mix of Tress the senator and Urban the motivator.
When asked about Jim Harbaugh Day said, "Dysfunction and petty behavior follows him wherever he goes. Also his obsession with milk is a fascinating human science experiment (as is the majority of his personality)."
I'm ready for football to begin. Seems like more crap being said up north than in the past. We have better talent across the board as they will once again will learn.
Gavin Cupp not even pushing for playing time. I guess the reports they were just rewarding an older guy this spring were true
I think the situation was that they were shorthanded in the spring Jackson hadn't arrived, and with Munford out of action, Bowen was needed on the outside, giving Cupp an opening (however temporary). If he has developed, and continues to do so, his chance to crack the starting lineup may come his final year when those two are gone (if he can hold off Miller and Jones).
TELL ME ABOUT THAT THERE DEFENSE.
Hindsight is, and in, 2020
I hope the older WRs are not allowed to hold the young stud pups back, because it’s a guarantee the young pups will be 3 yrs and done studs!!!
I was as disappointed with the linebackers play as anyone last year. That being said I fully expect Borland to hold onto the MLB spot and to play amazing. People seem to forget that 2 years ago when he was healthy he looked great.
What I would like to see is Borland and Harrison start with White at bullet. Then if they go three pure LB’s bring on Browning in the spot that Werner played last year. I would have Werner and Mitchell rotate in some during the game but the other three getting the majority of snaps.
Buckeye Til I Die
I believe our base is 1 safety, 1 bullet, and 3 LBs, and the more frequent nickel will drop Werner for a nickel (Wade).
I don’t know for sure but I am believe the base defense is going to be two safeties, a bullet, and two linebackers. That’s what I have been hearing. You can’t play with one safety.
That's what we assumed initially. Then there was an article saying otherwise. Playing White at bullet is a no go for you? We did it last year, called it safety, and people cheered.
Who would you play for - Day or Harbaugh- Duh
Well, he is already better than Meyer in this respect ( at least compared to last year).
I remember remarking to a friend last fall during Day's "tryout" that the composure he showed in such a high pressure situation was remarkable and that I wished that Urban would just say "I've had enough of this crap!" (in reference to McMurphy and his meddling) and hire Day. My buddy quickly brought me back to my senses, but that said, as much as we'll miss Urban's track record, as of now, Day and staff appear to have not missed a beat.
Day seems like such a good guy, he's very articulate, clear in his answers, and as of yet, hasn't made a misstep while speaking. (Especially for as little experience as he's had doing it, comparatively.) Obviously, we'll want to see the results on the field and in the continuing recruiting wars against the bigger SEC and Clemson powers, but I can't imagine a better hire than Ryan Day and I hope the results keep him here as long as possible. He seems perfect for this/us.
He can look like Harbaugh at the podium, for all I care, so long as his team looks like 62-39 on the field.
