Dantonio is definitely in the twilight of his coaching career but not sure if this will be his final season. They will be solid and a tough out once again. If he does leave Narduzzi makes the most sense. The DC that beat OSU and Urban twice. They dont make the CFP in 2015 without him. I dont want to see Fickell go there.

Narduzzi hasn't lit the world on fire at Pitt but everyone has expected him to take over once Dantonio left. I'm just not sure hes earned it with what hes done at Pitt thus far. I dont want Fickell too either but I could see it happening. Same trajectory as Dantonio too.
Get dumped then
Pitt is a barf job and has been for years. Even Luke turned down that job.
Maybe some clarification. Pitt is a barf job due to the lack of support from the university. They have not supported any coach in a long time. Just look at the the tenures of the previous coaches who have been there. Luke recognized that issue and smartly said no to the job.
Enjoying daily the 62-39 ttun beatdown.
Candidates would include narduzzi, fickell, Campbell, babers, candle, brohm.
I could see Babers going there.
Is it an upgrade from Syracuse? Especially when the ACC is currently hot garbage
I suppose it's possible, but I don't know that he's on any kind of hot seat, and 63 isn't that old.
It does seem, though, that the current staff up there is lacking anyone who could step in for Dantonio and make for a smooth transition. He's kind of taken after Tressel in that respect.

Dantonio has reached his acme at MSU, imo. He's done as much there as one can do in today's college football climate, and if he is set to retire at season's end, then it'll be because he knows there is nowhere to realistically go but down in East Lansing. Knowing that national titles are the goal for every mid-level and up P5 program, and knowing that it's highly unlikely he can win one at *ichigan State, I can see the timing being right to step away after this season. I hope not, because he's a very good coach/player developer, and a solid representative for the B1G... but the expectations and the reality simply don't align at these programs on the periphery of being a major player, and MSU is, and has almost always been, a program on the edge of where programs like Ohio State, Alabama, Oklahoma, Notre Dame, and yes, even ttun reside. MSU, UCLA, TAMU, etc., are programs who are historically on the outside looking in, and breaking through to that next and highest level is difficult. Fisher might do it at A&M because he's a very good recruiter, but Dantonio isn't and he never will be.
In addition, Fickell going there doesn't bother me for two reasons... first, and despite popular opinion on here, I don't think Luke Fickell is Ohio State head coach quality, and second, if I'm wrong and Fickell is an OSU caliber HC, it won't matter where he when the job next opens, because he'll leave wherever he is in a heartbeat to come home.

Lotta good points there. And as much as I like Fickell, I agree with you. Now, if he beats us this year and goes on a wild ride, I might start buying into the Fickell hype.
Good points Kemp but he did at least as good as Saban there. I'm not sure MSU can ever be a great draw.
Dantonio has also had a heart attack and been wrapped up in a few player/staff behavioral scandals. That’s probably not an ideal cocktail for longevity.
But Dantonio has been a very solid on field coach for Sparty. I’ve respected him as a disciple of the Tressel tree. He has been a thorn in our side but has also been laying wood to Michigan for years. I don’t necessarily care who but as a conference we need 3 or 4 brands to be solid. Sparty has mostly been a staple in the upper B1G for the last decade. Whoever they get will have to ensure their place above their in state rival.
Thanks for putting me in your top three of potential replacements but I'm not interested at this time
As soon as I read that line, I knew it was only time until Barfolomew would respond.
I live near Lansing. MSU fans love Dantonio. He seat is cold as ice.He has made MSU relevant. MSU was a checkoff win every year (damn you Saban damn you). Now they are a team that has talent and play thier guts out. 9-10 wins are achievable now and expected. Even when they fall short it’s ok. Fans know it’s a basketball school.Dantonio has built that program up to be respectable and desirable instead of getting 2-3 stars they can get 3-4 star kids and have pulled in a couple 5star I Believe (not so much recently).
Poster above pointed out some good names. Matt Campbell I think would be on the very short list as would Fickell with another good year.
I sadly can’t think of a better replacement than Fickell, he will go there and be a better recruiter and run a modern offense
What, no mention of Gruden?

I hear Hue Jackson is looking for a job

The guy I'd be courting is Matt Rhule. I'd be starting that about now because if he has a good year at Baylor, a program left for dead, he'll be out of MSU's grasp.
I can see Dino stepping down, but would like to see Harbaugh leave M...igan first.
I had to run away high, so I wouldn't come home low...
Its too bad but I could see Fickell being a great fit there. Defense first type of team, tons of connections in the Mid West. He already has been working on the poaching of Ohio recruits at CIncy that MSU specializes in. It's not Michigan so I could see Fickell being ok with it.
As much as I would hate to see Fick head up north, there is almost a natural fit to what they are looking for (particularly if he has another 10+ season at CIncy), and he'd be following in Dantonio's footsteps with a step up.
