DE Zach Harrison: No. 33

Am I the only one who feels that's a rather low number for a DE?

Edit: I just remembered that Chase Young is #2, so I guess the numbers for DEs are all over the place.

I think it just depends.  Some big men love to wear single digits.  Sam Hubbard I believe wore a single digit.  I think Jashon Cornell does as well.

I think anyone can be every number, but often it's the skill position guys who get single digits.

Noah Spence wore #8, few other examples I can think of if I tried.

If what I remember is true, some coaches look at single numbers for DL as a "reward" for being a particularly "nasty animal." It's like a status thing, I suppose?

Urban Meyer left an incredible legacy. 12/4/18 Ryan Day begins his.

Marroti and nutritionist Sean McMickle need to work on these guys. These players may very well put on the "Freshman 15," making them respectable at 190 & 184 respectively. Added muscle will be gravy.

Did I miss something on Chambers wearing 22?

I thought that was retired for Les Horvath?

I remember the Big Kat getting the ok from Arch to wear 45, want to say AJ Hawk and Justin Hilliard did the same with OSU/the Harley family to wear 47?

Just wondering if there is a set protocol with new/existing players requesting to wear a retired number.

HS
Stoffel1022's picture

See this link for details of how retired numbers are handled.

https://www.cleveland.com/osu/2016/02/explaining_ohio_states_philoso.html

But basically if a current player wants to use a retired number they ask the former player or their family for permission to use it

Got it - thanks for the info and the link, Stoff.

It seems it's the coach who calls the honored player or his family, not the current Buckeye athlete. (Probably what you meant.)

Why didn't they list the numbers our new cornerbacks got? Oh... we didn't get any new cornerbacks /s

Alex, Let's make it a true daily double.

We take one player not currently in the top 1000. That's because he's from Ahia. Just kidding. He can and will improve his ranking.
No CB's is a glaring problem though. At least get one (last year).

I wonder if Dawand Jones has two jerseys sewn together. The first one would have started with a 7, and the second one would have ended with a 9.

Actually, I thought it was more along the lines of a professional wrestling moniker ...

I've always said Steele Chambers sounds like either a porn star's name or a hero in a Harleyquin romance novel. But something about him wearing 22 makes sense, especially if he ends up on defense...like, "22 knocked him back like a Silver Bullet fired from a steel chamber..." I'm still working on it. Not everyone can be Gus Johnson.

I couldn’t find a decent picture of a .22 that wasn’t either watermarked or massively large.

It took them like 72 hours to post all the changes/updates and it was piecemeal. Sort by class and you have redshirt freshmen abbreviated four different ways, “graduate” and “grad”, misspelled hometowns...I’m OCD at times but this is just sloppy editing.

HS

II feel your OCD moments, they’re a real bitch. I am much more simple in my approach to anything that keeps me occupied and up to date on the simplest things even with discrepancies which I have to say I didn’t even notice. My OCD is with repetitive songs. That Just kills me sometimes

I don't like those numbers for Young or Shaw. I feel they should be in the 20 something range.

HS
Stoicpaisano's picture

Here’s what wasn’t spoken for by upper classmen/retired jerseys: 16 (Stover), 28 (Hickman), 33 (Harrison), 30/34/35 (walkons that could switch). I agree their numbers look weird, but there simply wasn’t much available this year.

3, 4, 9 will be available next year, 1, 2 likely as well if Okudah and Young live up to the hype
