Russell Westbrook to Houston

Paul is signed for the next 3 years at 38, 42 and 44 million respectively.   thats a lot of money for a washed up point guard that can't lead a team or stay healthy but hey its the new NBA.  * for the record Westbrook had roughly the same contract structure but add one more year and 47 million to the total.

I guess OKC just hopes for a few tanked seasons and make the most of their drafts.

Paul isnt as good as he once was, but I wouldn’t say he’s washed up. He’s still a pretty good PG. I’m interested to watch Houston implode as Westbrook and Amish beard man fight over the ball every game.

No way Westbrook and Harden co-exist.

C'mon, man, if he got rid of that beard it would probably completely throw off his shot and then he'd be done.

I've never been a Chris Paul fan in spite of the numbers he has put up in his career.  His antics both on and off the court have continually demonstrated immaturity, not toughness.  While both the Paul and Westbrook contracts are comparable, Westbrook is a tremendous competitor and what Houston needs if they are going to take the next step.

1 ball for Harden, Paul and Westbrook?

3 ball hogs.

They May score 115-120/game, but that team will give up 125/game.

I think you're a bit confused on the details of the trade.

It's a beautiful day in Columbus, Ohio... and TTUN still sucks.

Well, Chris Paul is being traded to the Thunder and Westbrook is going to the Rockets, so this won’t be a problem.

HS

My bad.

But, Westbrook and Harden on the same team then?

May sound good on paper, but, I don’t know about that chemistry.

HS

Yea that part still doesn’t make sense haha.

The Thunder have now acquired seven first round picks in the past week. That’s how you do a rebuild.

EDIT: seven additional firsts, plus four pick swaps. Good lord.

HS

Chances are they'll be in the 20's though. I don't see the Clippers or the Rockets finishing in the bottom half of the league any time soon.

HS
BrutusB's picture

Not soon - but those picks are in 2024 and 2026 (when Westbrook will be 37). It’s entirely possible that the Rockets will be in the lottery by then. Likewise for the Clippers and PG.

HS

Kinda seems like a head scratcher to me. I understand it from OKC's point of view but Westbrook and Harden together? That's 2 of the most ball dominant PG's in the game.

Exactly-Chris Paul got sick of standing around watching Harden do his thing, how on earth is Mr. Triple-Double gonna react?

Uhhh...I don't know man.   That's a lot of ego in the locker room.

They are now saying that the Thunder are trying to move Chris Paul to a 3rd team.  Possibly Miami.

The Thunder might have future drafts all to themselves at this rate.

As a Rockets’ fan.  Crap.  I am not sure this is gonna work.

HS

That era is over now, but I remember how much fun it was to watch the Thunder were back in the day...house money

For a minute I totally forgot those two used to play together.

KD was so much more likable back then. Going to GS really turned him into a douchebag. Three of the guys in that photo above hate each other now and then there's Serge Ibaka (who just won a ring with Toronto so good for him).

11 Strong.

HS

Just imagine what a run these guys could have had if KD didn't turn into a snake and OKC didn't lowball JH. That's 3 future MVP's on one team!

Either Westbrook or Harden have led the league in assists the last 3 seasons. I'm sure they can figure out how to pass the ball. You can't lead the league in assists without passing.

HS
Dstacify's picture

Don't Westbrook and Harden hate each other? This honestly sounds like a shitshow waiting to happen (though Harden wasn't getting along with Chris Paul either so something had to be done).

11 Strong.

HS

No they are friends..... the "rift" between them was business and more with Harden with OKC when they traded him. Harden wanted to stay in OKC.. OKC SCREWED Harden over. They lowballed him and gave him like an hour to decide on the deal and as he was deciding they traded him. Harden and his teammates were devastated..... business...

Harden and Westbrook have known each other since they were like 10. They hang out in the summer etc.. still friends...

Go Bucks!

HS
Dstacify's picture

My bad. Perhaps it's KD and Westbrook that don't get along (I do remember KD hasn't had much of anything good to say about Westbrook ever since he left OKC).

11 Strong.

HS
tcm1968's picture

Yup, no love between those two ( although I think it's gotten more to a place now where it's not awful)... but Russ like the rest of the world thought KD quit on his team and the City..

Go Bucks!

HS

Durant getting injured changed everything. Any other year Harden and Westbrook probably can't work together but with a Championship in reach that changes things imo. You have two dudes that might decide to not exactly be themselves for one season because they could win a ring.

They will be nightmare. Like how on earth would the Lakers guard them? Seriously. The Lakers 7 deep is LeBron, Davis, Cousins, McGee, Kuzma, Rondo and Danny Green.... NONE of those dudes can guard either of these guys..

Would love to see Paul go to Milwaukee...  won't happen with his salary but they are loaded minus Eric Bledsoe..

Go Bucks!

OKC is going about this rebuild the right way, they are loading up for future draft picks.

For Houston, I find it hard to believe Harden and Westbrook will gel together : they both are the kind of guys that need the ball in their hands to make things happen.  Still, it will be interesting to see.  If they can make it work, watch out, that's a lot of scoring power for that team.......

I think the pairing will "work" but the west is so loaded and generally even right now, I dont know that the rockets are going to see much of a different result. They'll be in 3-6 seed range and probably now out of the playoffs in the 2nd round if I had to guess. Same as this past season.
