I have a feeling Teague is going to be great as the backup this year, and should do well splitting carries with Bijan Robinson next year. (Hint hint)
Also, 11W hasn't run a feature story on how McCall is going to break out this year for like 2 months. I'm really proud of you guys.
I know, what the hell, I can’t conduct the RUN DMC hype train all by myself.
ttun 2019 offense...same pig, different lipstick.
You aren't the only one. I know some grad assistants that still tell me the only thing that will derail DeMario from having a big year this season is injuries. If he's healthy, he's the guy. But just like we saw in the spring, health is no guarantee for him. An injury at the beginning of the season might give a guy like Master all the space he needs to run away with the job.
It could work out that Dobbins gets injured and DMC carries the load.
If anything, Crowley looks like he's the biggest threat to Master's carries. That dude looked like a stud in the Spring Game, and has a bit more to his game. That said, I fucking love Master, and wanted him to get more carries last year. Especially in goal line situations.
its rare for freshmen to be able to carry the load all season
“Save yourself and relax during every game. I recommend a fine bourbon.”
I’m very high on Master Teague. I definitely wanted to see him touch the ball more often. All we’ve seen from him in high school, during his carries last season, and the spring game this year, is break huge runs for TDs. He’s big and fast and doesn’t dance around in the backfield.
Yep, I've nice there haven't been any breakout articles on McCall, which is exactly why he'll now suddenly zoom in the national spotlight, right?
Don't jinx it, guys--by now, you might as well let him fly under the 2019 radar.
I expect to see a lot of the Master this year. I think he will be utilized much more than people think...I think he is the the prototypical type back the Buckeyes will needs with his pwr and speed ..
Can't wait to see this backfield this season. As high as our expectations are for the passing game are, I think the running game has all the personnel they need to be elite. We should hopefully see great things from them, especially early in the season. I almost feel bad for the teams who have to defend the run against Dobbins only to have to then stop Teague when Dobbins is out. And while having to cover this WR corps too...
Mr Football from the state of Florida could very well work his way into the mix sooner than later too. Love the way this roster is coming together this year and the next several.
The pain of discipline or the pain of regret, take your pick
I see your Crowley and raise you Chambers. I think a lot of people will be surprised with Steeles running ability.
" It's real good whatcha done Anthony, real good ! "
So Steele is a RB and not a LB?
He's as much of a rb as Carlos Hyde was..
That’ll work. Lol
He’s a running back in my eyes which doesn’t hold any water, but I think he could be the next big thing . We’ll see. The stud is hard to tackle. I honestly don’t know how good of a linebacker he could be. Maybe great, I don’t know
Teague showed some promise last year, this year just want to see him take that next step forward and be a reliable player to spell Dobbins when necessary.
Then when Dobbins moves onto the NFL it will be Teague's presumed job to lose.
Urban Meyer left an incredible legacy. 12/4/18 Ryan Day begins his.
Agreed. I always pick a couple unsung heroes. Right now it’s Teague. Every time he touches the ball he seems to have El Guapo’s power. Really psyched to see him carry against some big ten defenders
Im very anxious to see how things fall in the competition for carries next year. I think all of our backs have excellent potential. Mccall, Teague, Crowley, Steele (hopefully Robinson and Knighton) all have their strengths. Can't wait!!
I'm still leaning RB2 by committee until some snags the spot. They had to know Weber was gone and Snead was in trouble yet they still didn't get carries for Teague knowing they would need him this year. Sure seems like Dobbins will be inked in at RB1 and then everyone else at RB2..
MT = more touches.
Got M...igan gossip? Bang it here.
Don’t sleep on Steele.
I like Steele a lot but I think as a frosh he will be limited but you never know... but I think MT has a shot at a breakout type performance do to his time here and his abilities...
Can't wait to see what he can do
Teague reminds me of a bigger Brandon Saine. A very stiff running back with tremendous straight line speed but no wiggle to his game. I’m interested in seeing Crowley getting some carries. I think he has the most potential out of the back ups.
Don't listen to Freddy P. Soft
From what I can tell it sounds like McCall is primarily going to be used as a RB this coming season (as opposed to H-Back like we all thought) so I can see Teague being used in situational circumstances that suit his game. He won't rotate with Dobbins as much as Weber did last year though.
It was said very early before spring practice that McCall was going back to the RB room.
I’m unsure right now. The plan was to play him at running back, but he missed some spring practices and was recently pictured with Brian Hartline and the wideouts at a gathering on social media. So, I don’t know what’s up with him at the moment.
I think people are sleeping on how good Master Teague is gonna be, love that kids make up.
"I don't want to be around average, why be around average!" -UFM
Yep, he's not only strong, but he's got one of the fastest 40 times on the team. I love a one-two punch with JK taking the lead and making his jump cuts.
At the same time, with Day's wide-open offense and improved run-blocking, we might see a few holes, and Master can hit 'em fast--and arm tackles won't do.
As Tress used to sat, we need "a pair and a spare". I think the offense will be 50/50 run/pass, so there should be carries for the backup running backs.
“Being average means you are as close to the bottom as you are to the top.” John Wooden
A new enhancement of our run game is important. Get the run blocking improved from last years mid 60's to at least top 25. If you want top RB talent to commit here don't repeat last years blocking failure. Sure pass blocking was great. That's half of what's needed.
50 / 50 run - pass mix sounds good. Looking forward to the new and improved offense.
I'd love to see Teague get some snaps in the second half of some games, trucking tired linebackers as they wear down in the 4th quarter. Thats one of the things I miss from the Hyde/Zeke days. We'd spread out the defense and then run a power running game and gash defenses late in games.
The back-up to JK will play out and the best man will win. I was most encouraged by Josh Myer's confidence int he run game this year. Though inexperienced, I believe those young men on the 'O' line will be mauling people in the run game. That will make life much easier for all of our running backs. Go Bucks!
Agreed, Allbucks. I'm also guessing nobody will win the backup RB slot so much as Day will use different guys based on situations relative to different opponent's strengths, i.e., the guess here is that Teague will probably be JK's backup should dobbin's get injured while he'll also be used to crank out yards when JK needs a breather or when there's a big lead, but I see McCall playing when Day wants to spread a defense and give them an alternative look, and this will more likely happen on passing downs/passing situations.
Chicago Connection. Thanks for the reply. I also agree with your saying that situations will dictate who the back-up might be. It's going to be exciting to watch the offense develop. Go Bucks!
To the older folks - McCall = Dave Meggett, then power by Teague with an illusive starter in Dobbins you can have all sorts of fun with this line up!
I would rather be on hand with 10 men then elsewhere with 10,000 - Timur Lenk
I love JK and think he'll have a phenomenal year, but Master not only can be a great one, we're sitting pretty should an injury occur. I also think the line is going to be stronger and more well-rounded this year, and as long as Fields stays healthy, this is going to be a great dual-threat offense.
I'm all in on MT. He's gonna be truckin fools
Master, mastering the rb position.
TG Proud Buckeye alumnus.
Myers and Davis on the interior is going to be a huge upgrade for the run game.
You're too stupid to have a good time. -Dalton
MT reminds me of Joe Montgomery, another #33 who was pretty good!!
I like Mr. Teague. Tough runner who seems to be able to move the pile if needed, something we have been missing since Elliott.
I want to see variety in skill sets and their judicious use in situational football. It's becoming more and more a Matchup Game, which was a foreign concept to Meyer and past Buckeye coaches, who ran their scheme and dared you to stop it. We are entering, with Day and Wilson at the helm, a more flexible offense that is designed to exploit weaknesses on tape and the field. So we have JK with vision, jump cut and balance;'Teague with power and straight speed; McCall with quickness and elusive speed; and the new guys who I look forward to seeing their skills employed. I will be fun to watch is match our superior athletes in situations they excel at exploiting, in a designed offense.
I would like to see all of them play. Forget the red shirts. These guys want to go on to the next level no matter what position. We are already hated in our league with a target on our backs. Play hard, fast and the petal to the metal. Rested defense and lots of touches means the pick of recruits year after year. Play clean and work hard in the classroom and develop into what your goals intended.
I may not be the sharpest crayon in the box but I'm one of the most colorful.
I think given he was behind two 1,000-yard backs and alongside another frosh runner in Snead, Teague’s carries were significant enough to say the staff sees a lot in him. He looked great in his limited action. I can see how, playing behind Weber and Dobbins, he might not have pressed as much last year.
McCall’s size and talent screams “H-back” to me. There is no one, not even Hill, that excites me more than the thought of Demario at that spot.
"Woody would have wanted it that way"
Speaking of RBs it looks like we will be getting Robinson IMHO better fit locker room wise for this team I'm also excited for. Some Bucknuts believed we struggled lil at RB but when u look at our Roster and you see guys with names like Master and Steele ahead u My God! Lol plus we still have Dobbins I'm not worried about our RB room at all. Last but not least the Buckeye with the most swagger ever!!! He rides Quads around the campus dripping in fresh Adidas suits (I hope healthy) the one and only RunDMC! Best way to bring in a new QB is to surround him with a stable that's ready to go #GOBUCKS
A touch of greatness how cool would that be ..
I hope they at least give McCall some carries early in the season to show that he belongs in the rotation in some capacity. Ok we get it he doesn't have prototypical size, but OSU knew that when they recruited him right? Pretty sure he was rated a top-3 RB in his class..
I predict a lot of officials signaling for first downs after Master Teague touches the ball. Seems like a thumper to me. A fast one, at that.
Gotta love it.
I love the fact that a down year for our RBs is still a 1,000 + yard season... Teague looked like an absolute stud in the spring game... has the ability to put run opponents as well as run over dudes trying to bring him down... I’m not sleeping on Crowley though, I think if they get a chance to burn his red shirt and let him play in 4+ games they do it because of the talent he has... man, I wish Snead was still around... talk about wasted talent, wishing him the best though
