Ricks is gonna be one of those names that we remember for a long time in recruiting. He will be talked about on here for a good 6 months. Let’s just hope he goes to the good guys so he’s no Mecole Hardman.
Ryan Timmons says 'hold my beer'
Fred Davis is asking: you call that a beer? Lemmie show you a beer.
And on fourth and one... would you believe?
LOL. Fred Davis precedes this site. Maybe in BSB?
Fred Davis is a 2020 corner recruit committed to Clemson.
The answer may not be at the bottom of a bottle, but it never hurts to check.
Maybe this Fred Davis from Toledo?
You're too stupid to have a good time. -Dalton
We forget about the Blue Chip linebacker that played with him that was OSU bound that died playing hoops on the sand lots of Toledo
Drushaun Humphry was his name and he was going to play running back for Tressel.
OSU football recruit dies unexpectedly
By By Brian Clark: By Brian Clark April 30, 2001 0
According to reports late last night, Drushaun Humphry, an OSU football commitment, died yesterday afternoon during a pick-up basketball game at his high school.
WBNS 10TV and WCMH Channel 4 reported that Humphry, who had verbally accepted a scholarship offered to him pending academic qualification, died of an apparent heart attack yesterday.
The junior at Toledo Rogers High School was an athlete who played on both offense and defense but had preferred to play running back in college. He was one of first verbal recruits in Jim Tressel era.
Humphry would have come to play for the Buckeyes in the fall of 2002.
The 6-foot-3 240-pound recruit was listed as the fourth-best prospect in the state, but improved academics may have made him the top football recruit in the state.
Humphry’s high school coach was Rich Rios.
Humphry is not the first high school athlete who unexpectedly died while involved in sports.
Last year a 15-year-old linebacker for Barberton High School near Cleveland, Josh Miller, died of apparent heart-related problems following a punt play. Two weeks before that, another 15-year-old high school football player from Cleveland died after making a tackle.
Drushaun Humphry was a complete beast! I saw some video of him running over, through, and right past defenders. Such a shame that his life was cut short.
Fields of Dreams
If you've never read it, a Birm/Ramzy collaboration on a story on Big Dru.
Can't even imagine coupling Drushawn with Clarett. That would have been something to see.
Humphrey's death happened right around the time that I first started following college football recruiting closely. Such a shame.
I remember reading that Tressel presented Drushaun's mom with a national championship ring, always thought that was a very classy thing to do.
Ryan Timmons was only one guy. It just seemed like the whole site.
Ahhh, Waycraken, that crazy son of a bitch.
I was trying to remember who it was and here you come out of nowhere with the answer! Good ol Waycraken.
I'll never forget when their were disagreements on Timmons's speed, because he looked fast but was playing against bad completion, Waycracken said the way to see how fast someone is regardless of competition is to compare their speed to the refs. Timmons was leaving the refs in the dust! That... did not settle the argument.
I put Waycraken in the same book as Uncle 9'er.
Kinda miss 9’ers high jinx's! Always good for a laugh
I heard Ryan Timmons is dating Meg.
Miss Lippy's car is green.
I miss Meg.

Someone give me some good recruiting news
"Families is where our nation finds hope, where wings take dream."
You’re a Buckeye fan.
In for the Ricks flip ;)
Where in the heck have YOU been.....? It's good to see you back.
Have been around lurking enjoying these threads. Great job Spooner and the rest of the people on this site do, still the best community on the interwebs.
Wow the OG is back!!! Good to see you in recruiting threads again.

Biggins is the one to follow for Ricks news. He also knew about the IMG move a long time ago. As did Taylor, Birm, Kurelic, Greene, Givler, etc.
Isnt it kind of telling that OSU insiders knew of the move but LSU insiders didnt?
Andrew, do you think there is any glimmer of hope with Broughton? Birm mentioned we still are in it for him in his article yesterday and in lettermen live. Then I also just saw that on a Texas board that one of their insiders thinks that AtM or possibly us are out front.
After his OSU visit I was told he'd end up at Texas. Now it seems most think he just ends up in the state whether it's UT or TAMU. I'm just going to assume he ends up at one of those schools unless there's some positive development in the meantime. I know his mom has tweeted some pro-OSU stuff but I believe she does that for all the contending schools.
So is Cowan our most likely guy, or do you think LJ will slow play this a little and see if new names can pop up during the season. Anyone we should keep an eye on?
I haven’t heard of any other names besides Broughton and the Carolina guys. That’s easily the toughest position group to get a feel for. I’m of the belief they could really use a true defensive end (obv Evans would be perfect) but it wouldn’t be a devastating blow to the class if they don’t get one considering Sawyer and Story for 2021.
I’m of the belief they could really use a true defensive end (obv Evans would be perfect)
Do you think we have a realistic chance at getting Evans?
I believe he’s said in the past that Evans isn’t leaving the Carolinas but the longer his recruitment goes into the season the more likelihood he might open his mind on playing for a powerhouse further from home.
UNC has a lot of D-Line guys in their class already. It will be interesting to see how this plays out.
Bob is trending to UNC Fan.
Ohio State > *ichigan
Urban > Hairbaugh
At the moment there's nothing that makes me think he's a real option but I suppose UNC having five DL committed doesn't hurt. Seems like a kid that will stay in-state but we will see if he makes a trip to Columbus.
Not a strong year for D line but it seems they want one more I think Cowan is in if we push.
Biggins replied on the LSU board and threw what appears to be shade to the insider guy and tried to shake it off as no big deal, Ricks or not, the story is not meshing. Would like to know more on Watts since he could be a down the road option
Biggins wrote a few hours ago on there board that the move to IMG doesn’t effect Ricks’ recruitment at all and it would take a big change for him to rethink his commitment. This is pretty similar to what Givler said as well. I think we need to pump the brakes a little bit before we get overly hopeful.
Why do that when it's way more fun to endlessly speculate and get overly excited about the future?
AKA the Horseshoe, the Shoe, and the House That Harley Built
We have to get to #69 somehow. If Robinson, Williams and Ransom all commit this month, speculating on Ricks might have to get us there.
"The only thing necessary for the triumph of evil is for good men to do nothing." - Edmund Burke
One things for sure, pumping the brakes won't get us anywhere.
Ricks move to IMG more for leaving school early I thought????
Yeah but he was going to mater dei... I thought they let kids graduate early for early enrollment in college... look at the QB for USC JT Daniels... he left early didn’t he?
Daniels reclassified from 2019 to 2018, i.e., he graduated a year early, not a semester early.
I think how the D plays this fall will have a major impact on Ricks flipping. If the problems are fixed I think that seals the deal for the Bucks.
Ricks has been kicked dead for time m, who can tell me more about Watts
6-2.5 187lb ran a 4.5 laser 40 at a regional opening event with a 38 inch vertical.
Givler said he may officially visit during the season. Currently committed to Oklahoma
Watts committed to Oklahoma less than three months ago. Why are we hearing about him now and what makes us think he'll flip? Because Alex Grinch is a terrible recruiter?
Givler said he's one to watch out for so I believe him.
He absolutely is. For a number of reasons.
Birm mentioned three commits earlier today I believe and he was one
Completely agree. LSU has two high end secondary players to pitch and Ohio state COULD have up to 5 (doubt that) but Fuller and Okudah are going to likely be seen as top 5 at position, Zach Smith keeps saying Arnette is a first round corner with good teaching and Hafley has come off very excited when talking about Arnette. Shaun Wade is an elite talent that could pop and Brendon White played like an elite player. Would take the over on 2.5 Buckeye secondary players in the first few rounds and the under, but both definitely are going to continue to crank out elite corners to sell their pitch as DBU. At the end of the day though, no neutral player should see that big of a difference between the two. Personally think the OSU receiver group coming and overall season success will be enough to swing the pendulum, but I don't think its a given for either side.
Need to couple that with a relative LSU dissapointing season. Seems Coach O has for now calmed the doubters, but if they have a 4 loss season or more, and dont look competitive in some of the bigger games, the heat will be turned back up on him.
Hard to say this, need Texas Tom and his boys to take it to LSU, will only help.
But.... but I'm still rooting for Joey Burrito?!
Related to the question posed to Andrew Ellis above, any particular reason why Houston TX DT Vernon Broughton isn't included on the big board? Other DE more likely targets and/or needs? Seems to me I just read somewhere, may be related to a Birm comment, that he has real interest in Ohio State and I would assume, even with only a few spots still available in the 2020 class, that he would still be regarded as a very high target.
"Life is ten percent what happens to you and ninety percent how you respond to it." - Woody Hayes
AE doesn't edit the big board and it's because there's not one thing floating out there that suggest he's coming north of the Mason Dixon line. People keep referencing his moms tweets that she does for all schools. There's not one insider that believes he's not playing college in either Texas or Arkansas.
I think you have a few guys on the board that are less likely than Broughton.
Miller, Fleming, Scott, JSN, Paris, Henry, Cavazos, and Phillips are planning to be early enrollees.
And Ricks as well. ;)
love having the QB and WRs together early

Good for Luke. Hard to find a school that does a better job with players at his position.
What did I miss on Ricks? Ok, he's going to IMG, does that mean he's an auto-flip?
Don't get me wrong, I hope he comes but I don't understand the sudden rush of optimism.
Because the other rumor was that he goes to HS in Baton Rouge, THAT would've been a major setback
I wouldn't call it anything more than cautious optimism but there are reasons for it. First, the LSU insiders were adamant his family was moving to Baton Rouge while others were saying IMG. So now it's out he's going to IMG, which means the LSU insiders a) looked like fools, and b) clearly don't have an inside source they can trust. Second, he'll be playing with Lejond Cavazos, who's probably been our best recruiter among our recruits. He'll be in Ricks' ear day and night, working on changing his mind. Third, Ricks said that he really liked Ohio State but Urban leaving threw him, just as it did his buddy, Cavazos, who has since recommitted. And, again, Cavazos has his reasons for recommitting to a new staff as a strong card he can play. And finally, Ricks has already gone on record saying he'll take an OV to Columbus for the Penn State game. Unless he cancels, the Buckeyes will get a shot.
Here's a 3 minute video of JSN at the opening. He most closely resembles KJ Hill. Future slot WR at OSU.
Who would of thought, JSN was a last second addition to the opening and he showed up and dominated... can’t wait to see this kid going up and getting it on saturdays in the shoe
Agreed. JSN is a boss with very soft hands. Seems like he will catch any ball that goes into his general vicinity.
"The minute we stop expecting greatness, we become Wisconsin."
I’m not going to say JSN will never play slot, but I assume he is more of a flanker and Mookie is more of a slot.
I wonder if they'll do videos of our other commits. Would love to see Fleming, Gee Scott and Mookie.
To give anything less than your best is to sacrifice the gift.
I like the idea of us continuing to recruit Ricks and Watts simultaneously. Our staff has done a great job this cycle of refusing to zero in on one player at a position and, whether it's been Fleming/Rosemy, Milton/Robinson, Ransom/Paige, or even McCord/McCarthy fo the '21 class, have been able to keep numerous recruits interested at the same time.
2 cb’s on Paige to TTUN tonight,
I was all in on adding Paige too and going with a big class but if there is the possibility of a 25-man cap it's best to wait. A 3rd CB is more important after not landing one last cycle. With most of this class baked in by the end of the summer Day can afford to wait and see what happens in the fall. Still like Paige as a player but not being able to take everyone with potential is a good problem to have.
He will be a good player for them. I get why we don't have room for him, but he has a lot of upside.
That's the most unfortunate part; that he is likely to end up at Michigan.
For his sake, I hope he doesn’t go to ttun. It doesn’t even have to be to Ohio State, but go somewhere else buddy. You go there and you will get absolutely torched by our offense when you play us...
Ricks tin IMG? That’s a long ways from Louisiana where his parents just moved
Liking the remaining names on the big board posted here... I think I’m in the same boat as a couple of other people wondering what this Ryan watts kid is all about... pumped for the ransom and Bijan commitments... you know what else is really encouraging about this class, every single kid (with the exception of a few months with Paris Johnson) seems committed to staying in this class and growing with their class mates... I don’t see one kid on that list that is a flip candidate or not interested... I guess you can chalk that one up to the coaching staff on the recruiting trail really selling the culture and easing any concerns about the coaching change... class of 2020 is going to be special... let’s lock these last couple guys up and get to work on 2021
To be honest all this Ricks talk makes me think he is LSU's version of Shaun Wade. Other fan bases were talking about flipping Wade from us for like a year and a half and it never happened.
The Life Of PABLO
Except Ohio State wasn’t tinkering around having 3-4 losses every year...I still love you Joe...

The Buckeye Way
Nothing like jumping the gun and stealing the kids thunder eh? This guy is sure confident in Bijan picking OSU. But in all seriousness, I’m glad to have him “apart” of this 2020 class.
How come nobody on twitter knows the difference between “apart” and “a part”? I see it mostly with recruits. Drives me insane
Your defiantly onto some thing hear.
I sea what you did they're.
“Every normal man must be tempted, at times, to spit on his hands, hoist the black flag, and begin slitting throats.”
Your making to big of a deal of this.
Supposably that's okay.
You Got Barbecue Back There!?!?!?!
You know, "supposably" is kind of an awesome, completely made-up word
Supposably is a word. It means something could theoretically be true. Whereas supposedly is something that is said to be true. Supposabilities is even a word, regardless of what 11w spell check seems to think.
Despite the talk and the regular communication between Ricks and the Ohio State staff, the odds of a flip aren’t great barring a complete program overhaul at LSU this season. Still, the Buckeyes are on the prowl for another cornerback in this class, and Ricks is at the top of a very short board.
I'm going opt to ignore that paragraph in Birms latest article.
LSU insiders saying Ricks younger brother is going to school in Baton Rouge so i guess the family is indeed there if true.
Are you sure that other Ricks at Dunham is in fact his brother? I see the Christmas pic of Ricks and his family in their LSU gear and his younger brother looks like he's 11-12 years old. And if he is HS age, why in the world would he not also go to IMG? This makes no sense to me.
Well IMG is an insanely expensive school if you're not on scholarship/subsidised. So maybe his brother isn't good enough or doesn't want to live away from his parents, hell maybe he doesn't even play sports. Ricks going to IMG gives us hope, but I don't think it's as big of a deal as everyone is making it out to be.
My thoughts too. Could easily mean there’s another player with ricks last name. Sounded to me like ricks made it clear his family didn’t move to BR
B/c 11-12 year olds are in 5th or 6th grade.
They got Ricks-rolled. The second Ricks gets you every time.
I wonder if the "insiders" know what Ricks had for breakfast. They're diving way too deep into his recruitment. It's getting weird.
More weird than all of the conspiracy theories here based on tweets and pins?
Wiltfong on BM5 says that "more than one" buckeye commit has told him with confidence that Elias Ricks will be a buckeye
I just think it's no coincidence he ended up at IMG with our other CB recruit.
BIG IF TRUE!
"The Edge is where average stops and elite begins"
It would be BIG TIME!
What does Wiltfong think if that information, though? Does it seen like he smells a flip coming or was it more of a flippant FWIW comment on BM5?
He said that a lot of the OSU guys were saying Bijan was coming to OSU well before the crystal balls, and those same guys are giving him a similar vibe on Ricks. He didn't use the phrase "similar vibe" but did say it was similar with how OSU commits were showing confidence
And Lejond has said - I think twice - that Osu will have the number 1 class in the nation. Now i dont know if he is going by espenis, 247, composite, rivals, or the SYRmotsag. Its seems unlikely, but I kind of believe the guy
I will say this right now.
On the composite, OSU has 9 3* commits. 4 of those 9 guys are 4*s on 247 itself, which updates far and away the most often of those sites. So 4 of those 9 are very close to getting that bump. That would put us at only 5 3*s with a kicker included, very similar to Bama/Clemson/LSU.
If we were to add in Ricks/Bijan to Fleming/Johnson, then maybe 1-2 of our guys plays out of his mind and gets a bump (or Scott gets a bump up soon), then we could be at 5 5* guys, the same as Clemson. Then we would have to pull a heist on a guy like Evans to probably win the recruiting title, but we may only be 1-2 guys out of it
I've never seen ESPENIS before. I will be stealing that henceforth good Sir!
Feast your eyes on the greatest college game day sign of all time (NSFW)
Sorry Urban, Woody is still my favorite
THIS MADE MY WEEK!!!
Tip of the hat good Sir!
I would like to take credit for it, but i cant. Someone posted it here a while back. I’d like to cite him/her but i dont recall who it was.
Not saying it's going to happen, but Ricks is distancing himself from LSU, either to make the most objective decision or to flip. Either way, a good development for us.
I get that there are a few things going on with Ricks that are a positive for us, but let's not forget that he was reportedly recruiting for LSU at The Opening. It's entirely possible that he's torn between us and LSU and is trying to play both sides of the coin until he figures out a final decision.
Same for me. A few told me, though they asked me not to reveal who they are.
Would need to solidify Ricks, get the deserving bumps including Scotts 5th star, and some how steal Breese Clemson's DE, that isnt impossible. Thats actually on par for a Urban finish to a recruiting season. Stranger Things season 4 is closet then we thought..
I would say it's probably a longer shot than landing, say, Desmond Evans:
But there are times in recruiting when no matter what a team does, no matter what it has to offer, it’s just not enough. There are top prospects and their families that will just never truly give their full attention because they either prefer another school or don’t want to go away from home. Still, there are not many programs in the country that can get a door opened faster or wider than the Buckeyes.
The Buckeyes aren't getting Bresee. Clemson doesn't lose commits and he's completely shut down his recruitment. OSU hasn't been a legitimate player there for a very long time. Hopefully LJ does what he can to dislodge Evans from NC and the south.
Please stop with flipping Bresee, it's not like he's committed to Maryland. That's gotta be the worst take on here. He's going to a place that has two CFP titles and just had 3 DL drafted in the top 17
Yeah i would 100% put flipping Breese in the impossible category.
I heard Ringo and Breese are coming to us as a package deal.
Not sure if this was sarcasm lol, nonetheless I enjoy the superb optimistic point of view.
Ryan day the goat....and yes I pee on ttun all the time
FSU insider Josh Newberg going down with the ship with Knighton to FSU...says it is all about him showing up to their SNL thing. Won't change his CB until then.
BG pretty much said today that Robinson, Kourt, Knighton and Ransom are done deals and you can call the dogs off for them.
Stay golden, Ponyboy.
Well he won't go down with the ship because the SNL thing is before he decides. So he will have 3-4 days to change his CB based on if he shows.
He's just sitting there with his pump as water comes on board currently
Yeah...he seems to be the only one holding out hope. Felt more like it was arrogance. His partner Chris Nee has already CB'd him to OSU.
I said in a previous thread, but he knows where Knighton is going. He just needs to keep the FSU subscribers engaged before he changes his CB a couple days before his decision day. Gotta milk your subscribers and be right at the same time.
If Urban didn't leave wasn't Ricks a near lock for OSU? It might not be that hard to swing him back plus more and more folks think he will flip.
Yeah, but Sherman was basically a near lock for OSU too with Meyer behind the helm. Some guys jump back and some don't. Some change their mind when they start looking.
Ricks is possible, maybe more than he was a few weeks ago, but hardly assured.
You're right, each kid is different. Ricks feels different than Sherman. :)
As long as Raymond is the db coach imho Ricks will sign with lsu. I understand you chase him but not at the expense of signing a high upside guy as the 2nd/3rd cb. Go Bucks
C. Brian Massie
Michigan 247 board is throwing a complete temper tantrum about Bill Greene going on the Zach Smith podcast. They’re trying to get him banned from their board and in trouble with the 247 company
Fuck those pretentious mouth breathers. They should be more concerned with their coach having sleepovers with high school players.
I personally wouldn't involve myself with anything having to do with Zach Smith. There is no upside to that for BG. I've been at 11W long enough to know some won't share my opinion on that.
That said, it's hard to take Michigan fans seriously on this when they have Harbaugh as their head coach. The same Harbaugh who got to the Niners and preached a zero tolerance policy for domestic violence and incidents against women and then bent that policy when a player was accused. Ray McDonald was the player and he's since been involved in multiple domestic issues. The Niners led the NFL in arrests for three straight years while he was at the helm and enabled players like McDonald and Aldon Smith.
Then at Michigan he sat by after Grant Perry grabbed a woman by the crotch in public and assaulted a police officer. Perry got the sexual assault charge dropped by pleading guilty to felony resisting arrest. Harbaugh took him right back. Meanwhile I didn't see Bri'onte Dunn back as a Buckeye after his domestic assault situation. He was gone immediately. So while I have no issue being critical of mistakes the Buckeye staff has made in the past, I'm find it entirely hypocritical for Michigan fans to do so and ignore their own coach's decisions.
Dunn was actually dismissed from the team two weeks before he was even arrested.
Ummm...how about covering up their kicker's rape case for 4 years and kicking him off the team after the university is notified that there would be an FBI probe into Michigan's handling of the matter. People don't mention this enough. It's extremely fucked up and if this would have happened in the MeToo/Twitter age, the entire staff would have been fired top to bottom with a scholarship deduction and a bowl ban.
USA Today article about the probe
REALLY in depth analysis of the incident with all the police documents. Some Highlights from the report include that 2 of Gibbons teammates gave statements to the police the night of the incident corroborating the victim's story. Taylor Lewan (yes current Pro Bowl lineman Lewan told the victim he would rape her again if she told. This is a doozy.
So anytime your TTUN buddies hop up on their high horses, make sure to remind them about Brendan Gibbons.
Yup. The Lewan one is unbelievably hypocritical as the fans on Mgoblog still routinely post about him highlighting his NFL success and as an example of how the program has produced an elite OL. They have no issue brushing those facts under the rug. Guy is a complete POS.
Harbaugh has been pulled for DUI also...as well as players and coaches on his staff.
He probably got it reduced. That deer in the headlights thing is his normal look.
Bill and Zach are good friends. Not one thing wrong with being on the podcast. I’m sure they both fed each other information when Zach was on staff.
Looks like Gee Scott Jr is in the running for a Rivals fifth star as well. I know there were some worries that even if he got his 247 fifth star, he wouldn’t be one in the composite.
Unfortunately, I think he’ll end up just outside of five star range on both sites despite the growing hype. Fortunately, star ratings don’t change that he’s an absolute beast.
Regardless, I’m very impressed with the talent evaluations done by the OSU staff. Looks like nearly all of our prospects are going to get a bump. I could see Martinez, Royer, Toutant, and Fryar all getting their fourth star in the composite when the next rankings come out. Gee Scott Jr and Clark Phillips are also both in the running for a fifth star, though it looks like both might end up in the 35-40 range.
They are running out of excuses not to award Gee his fifth star. He dominates wherever he goes. The classic "but he has to show it in camps" argument goes out the window as well, since he has attended multiple camps and dominated his competition each time. He has also shown that he is a natural leader. Keeping Gee in the .96 range is a demonstration of incompetence. Just my take.
As I said about Milton before his laser timed 40, I want to see a 5* guy have everything. I believe their argument lately is "when was the last time a WR who ran below a 4.5 was taken in the first round?" Historically that's been I guess an ok argument.
However, that same argument could be said for taking a QB under 6' tall in the first round...and one just went #1 overall. Things change. Of the top WRs in the NFL, I would say half are speedsters and half are slower. Brown/Thomas/Landry/Allen are 4.6+ guys, Julio/Beckham/Green are 4.4 or better guys. So the argument could now be made that things other than straight line 40 times matter
He may move up now, and move back down when his QB sucks another season so he doesn't have 80 catches for 1600 yards and 25 TDs this season
Also, there’s very few kids running 4.4 in high school. Even the 5 stars
Sports Illustrated had a really interesting article on this a couple months ago. The put out an NFL "All-Slow" team of players that has slower than average 40 times. They declared that speed is more overrated at WR than it is at any other position. Basically because the WR, not the DB, gets to dictate the pace of play attributes like body control, route running, and ball skills are far more important than raw speed. They found enough very productive WRs running 4.54 or slower to fill at least 3 all star teams. Antonio Brown, DeAndre Hopkins, Tyler Boyd, Davante Adams, Keenan Allen, Michael Thomas, JuJu Smith-Schuster, Jarvis Landry, and Jamison Crowder were all mentioned.
I know they only did current players, but also the GOAT Jerry Rice ran anywhere from a 4.55 to a 4.8 depending on who you ask.
Long story short: technique beats speed every single team. Even the 4.4 guys like Julio/Beckham are elite route runners.
From what I remember, OBJ surprised everyone and actually ran a faster than expected 40 at the combine. He was not necessarily known as a speed guy coming out of LSU.
This is great info, thank you.
It is really hard to be a great football player when a player doesn’t have great athleticism. It looks like receiver is the easiest position to overcome that though.
The thing is though running a 4.4 isn't the only measure of athleticism. Gee Scott, 4.7 aside, is a fantastic athlete. He has a 39 inch vert as a 18 year old kid. His 4.22 shuttle time would have been 13th among WR at this year's NFL combine (and only one of the 11 in front of him is 6'2" or bigger). If he can even shave a tenth of a second off in 3 years of college, a 4.12 would have been 4th. He's also one of the strongest receivers in the class of 2020.
There's so many different ways to measure athleticism, and I'd argue 40 time isn't even a top 5 trait to define elite WR. There is exactly one route that requires a receiver to run 40 yards in a straight line.
Another thing to consider is Scott hasn’t had a chance to work with Ohio State’s elite strength and conditioning staff. You can tell in the work out videos posted that Gee is a beast and works his ass off, but he isn’t getting the elite coaching in these areas he will get at Ohio State. I saw a video of him squatting a couple months back and the form he is using in the video will not be the form he uses at Ohio State. Coach Mick and the staff will take his already great work ethic and will help take Scott to the next level. I could see his speed and strength increasing significantly when he gets to Ohio State with proper technique and coaching in this area.
Clicked on the link. Saw that Rivals had ranked Richard Sherman as 3 star in high school. Enough said.
to be fair though its hard to rate Sherman against all other corners when he has a specific role as the CB on his team. you can't just rate a guy as "best corner playing the short field".
He only converted to corner at Stanford, was a WR in HS
At this point, there has been a LOT of coverage, in print and video, dedicated to whether Gee Scott, Jr. gets his 5th star. It seems like overkill, especially if they decide to keep him as a 4*. Are they challenging every 5* as to whether they should keep that 5th star? I don't think this is an Ohio State thing, but it just seems like too much focus on one specific recruit. Give him the extra star, or don't; just don't put this one kid under the microscope.
Evanston – you know that will ruffle feathers here
Honestly, who cares about a 5th star other than overwrought fanboys? Getting 5 stars isn’t going to make Scott a better prospect or give him more recruiting options.
I legit only care about stars because it affects our recruiting ranking and.....I want to with that too! I trust the coaches evaluations.
Those who say they can and those who say they can't are both right. Which one are you?
I sure hope Elias Rick's family is prepared for their first Hurricane......
NEW 4pm CDT July 11-- A Hurricane Warning is now in effect for the coast of Louisiana from Intracoastal City to Grand Isle. Preparations to protect life and property should be rushed to completion. Full advisory on #Barry: https://t.co/tW4KeFW0gB pic.twitter.com/b7sLozBJG7
— National Hurricane Center (@NHC_Atlantic) July 11, 2019
They really need to start calling these hurricanes something more threatening. How the hell are you supposed to convince people to evacuate while saying, "Look out! Here comes Barry!"
I know this was said tongue in cheek so I won't be too serious, but people's lives will be ruined this weekend (some already have flooded). Remember it's just entertainment in the end.
I wish all the families well and hope it doesn't go left and hit my family in Houston or me in Dallas too badly
Went thru crazy flooding in 2016 in BR. I was lucky enough to stay dry and had a hotel worth of ppl staying over with us for quite some time. I don’t wish that pain I saw in my friends eyes on anyone... even Tigha fans.
I also realize the tongue in cheek nature of the comment, I just wanted to 2nd the post above.
Moved to FL four years ago from Columbus. We have been through three hurricanes in that time, mandatory evacuation for two of them. It's not fun. We sold our house and we're moving back to Columbus at the end of the month. Cold winters be damned. I don't wish this southern coastal weather on anyone. You're always taking a risk living down here. It's best just to vacation for a week or two at a time.
I live in Florida and love every second of it. In Jacksonville all we get is some rain at the most. No reason to really evacuate here but some still do
Brother lives in Jax, says they have a lot of groups that get together and have watch parties
Not only is this hurricane hitting southern Louisiana again, it is hitting during a time when the Mississippi River is near flood stage. If certain events happen, flooding could be as bad as during Katrina, even with the levee upgrades and less powerful hurricane.
Might need new thread, don't want to hijack this thread.
Picked up sand bags today. Expect possibly 12"-15" of rain over weekend. Just hope power isn't out for long, I never got a new generator.
Stay safe Jmmysms!
Thoughts and prayers to you and your family/neighbors. Very frightening stuff. Be safe!
After Fran last year, I can attest that Cat 1 hurricane can still cause a lot of flooding. The entire SE NC was basically inaccessible by car for almost a week.

Demetric Warren with the CB for Lathan Ransom to Ohio State. Now Ransom’s CB is at 100% Ohio State with his decision coming up on Tuesday.
Here are some clips of Gee Scott Jr, Julian Fleming, and Elias Ricks at the opening.
Gee Scott appears to be unguarded at all times. He's so open.
I recall people compared Gee Scott to Anquan Boldin and J.Flemming got compared to Micheal Thomas. Could you imagine those two on the same team wow. I still remember my Lions taking C.Rogers over Anquan.
To be fair Charles Rogers was amazing in college. He was one of the most surprising high profile NFL busts that I can remember.
Charles Rogers might have been the best WR I have ever seen-AJ Green before AJ Green. Sadly, his substance abuse issues completely derailed his career. I remember talking to a dude who went on a recruiting trip to MSU while Rogers was there and he said the desk in Rogers dorm room was completely covered w/ Black n’ Mild wrappers.
Birm just stated that the 25 recruits may not be a hard count. "According to one source 'It’s complicated.' But just know that the hard cap of 25 appears to no longer be an issue"
"According to everyone, it's complicated."
Because I couldn't go for 3.
Birm the last couple days wrote kinda like the decisions for Ransom, Bijan, and Kourt aren’t really as much of a done deal as we and the other insiders act like. Is it just Birm’s writing style to drum up a little more suspense than to be so matter of fact the way Greene and Ellis are?
Can't speak as to what Greene has said but I never got the impression from Ellis that any of the 3 are a done deal.
I think one of the three is done and the other two are going to end up at Ohio State.
NB did ===== ransom to osu. Guessing that's who is done
Don’t put all my eggs in one basket? Nice try, basket industry.
Think it’s been done for a little while but was really done when he finished filming his commitment video this week.
In addition to Ransom, I had assumed Williams was a silent when the whole Bobby Carpenter thing went down. No?
Greene said about all three of them today to piss on the fire and call in the dogs. That’s his way of saying it’s done. Anyways didn’t mean to say AE specifically called all 3 done, just that he’s often more direct like that the way Greene is
Birm has also said in the past that when a recruit sets a commitment date they've generally already made up their mind.
Noticed the same thing. I wonder if it's just a case of him not knowing the kids or families as well and not wanting to base his confidence simply on the run of CB's. By the same token, he's not readying Buckeye fans for any letdowns, either, he which he has done in the past when he knows it's not in the cards to land a specific recruit.
There has never been a 25 hard count, at least as far as the NCAA is concerned. I've been posting about this for weeks and explaining why.
It's finally getting worked out at OSU. This class will have more than 25 signees.
I get the feeling the Kourt is the one recruit of the 3 that’s isn’t a for sure done deal. Kid seems very quiet and I’ve heard nothing since the visit. Bijan and ransom both seem like done deals though.
1. Bobby Carpenter tweeted out that he had committed while he was on an official. Some (including myself) took it to indicate he may have silently committed.
2. BK last night in his column "The source cited someone close to Williams telling him “it’s Ohio State.”"
I count him as IN. Especially bc on top of these two, BG said call off the dogs.
Oh I wasn’t worried on Kourt I just am not an insider so tbh I didn’t see that info. And also, I was just going based on his quietness. I didn’t mean to make is sound like I was worried or saying he wouldn’t be here.
All good! Just think we're in good shape there
Greene just CBd hyatt to Kentucky. That may mean we still good with Kourt
I don’t see any reason to worry on Kourt.
BH today stared that Rakim Jarrett wants out of LSU and reached out to OSU prior to Mookie committing and OSU politely declined. If true, that is amazing to think that we turned down a 5* who wanted in. But I 100% agree with the decision.
Also said that Day is not going to be spending as much time recruiting Florida and is going to be recruiting California really hard
Partially true but he’s not the one reaching out.
OSU reached out to Rakim initially but ultimately decided on Mookie?
I'm guessing he's talking about the family.
IIRC momma wanted OSU
His mom is a big fan of Day and Hartline apparently. She probably reached out to Hartline and shared that Rakim wants out of LSU and Hartline had to let her know we're full.
I wonder if Hartline will circle back around on him later if we find that a WR enters the Transfer Portal or if Babb is unable to come back from injury.
I'm kind of surprised that they would turn away a 5* who was at the top of their board for quite a while. Does it go back to issues with him or the "25 class" cap? Would like to have had Hartline's conversation with is him mom on a party line so we knew what was said. (If you have to ask what a party line is, you're going to make quite a few of us on here feel really old)
The boarding house said someone around him reached out
What is the context around Day not spending much time recruiting Florida? Just that he personally will focus more on CA, or the OSU staff in general?
Basically says that during the Urban Meyer era they recruited Florida hard. However, there could be a change in Day’s recruiting philosophy. OSU could be ready for west coast movement. Hafley has a great reputation out there. Top schools out there aren’t on top right now and OSU is in a goodnight position to capitalize.
Which makes a TON of sense. SEC is strong and competition for those guys is as fierce as ever. They'll still work on key guys down there, but why not play to your strengths and take advantage of weaker competition out there in some cases. They probably aren't the only ones to realize this, so will be interesting to track over the next couple years.
Makes sense. Thank you!
We’ve always done this. When GA was weak, we recruited Georgia well. When TX was (is) down, we have recruited that state well. When UMD joined the B1G (and has always been bad) and we hired LJ, we recruited the DMV well. Same with Rutgers and Schiano in NJ. Play to your strengths, but also to the weakness of the competition. No sense in investing the resources in recruiting places like LA and AL for top players when we can more easily get top players in another region. FL is really a different animal, though, and I really can’t see any staff abandoning efforts in such wide-open and talent rich state. That would be foolish. But I can completely understand if Day and Hafley feel confident in recruiting the best out West. They have ties there, and there the coast is in a relative power vacuum.
CA > FL
Lol. Who could have seen that coming?
Would love to land Jarrett just to make this class all time great at WR, even though landing him won't happen. That would probably be enough to make Hartline #1 recruiter of the year.
Also said that Day is not going to be spending as much time recruiting Florida and is going to be recruiting California really hard
That makes sense. He has more of a connection in Cali than Florida. Hope he doesn't abandon the state completely though.
I imagine IMG, St Thomas, and maybe Trinity Christian will still be recruited hard, and with regularity. A lot of the rest of the state will probably fall off the map for us though.
(regarding the Jarrett situation)What a plot twist. but hey that's cfb recruiting
Some other news: https://twitter.com/texcrystal_ball/status/1149582567361765378?s=19
It doesn’t look good for Ohio State but here’s hoping that LJ can pull this off and truly piss off Texas and Texas A&M fans.
It's also going to be a major blow to Texas fans if he doesn't commit there. They likely will loose all their top targets this class.
After Bijan, I would give anything for him to out of no where pick tOSU and watch the Texas fans heads explode.
If not OSU, I'd like to see him pick A&M. Texas Tom does not deserve nice things.
Arkansas would piss the entire state of Texas though lol
The same Texas Tom that was hailed around here to be the next UM?
Shhh that's Ryan Day's title.
Yes, because Herman has done absolutely nothing since 2014 that would hurt his reputation among Buckeye fans....
Honest question. Are you Tom Herman?
Was looking at the A&M 247 site and there's a quote from Kourt Williams that says we're recruiting him as a safety. Haven't heard that from our end yet, thought we were recruiting him for our hybrid linebacker position, anyone have more info on this?
Kourt) All of the schools are saying if I come in and compete, then I could play a big role as a freshman and potentially start. Penn State and Ohio State are recruiting me as a safety; Texas A&M and Oklahoma are recruiting me as a outside linebacker, and Tennessee is recruiting me as a combination of safety and linebacker—kind of like a nickel.
On another site, he said OSU is recruiting him as a bullet. Also BK keeps calling him a safety too lol.
Calling him a safety isn't incorrect. The bullet is basically just a safety that plays closer to the line of scrimmage. Derwin James is a safety yet if you see where he lines up its mostly 5-7 yards off the LOS.
Yeah didn’t Hafley himself say the bullet was basically a traditional strongside safety?
Yes but by the sound of it, we may use it in two different packages:
With that bullet essentially being a third safety or third LB.
4-2-5, my favorite defense formation in NCAA 14.
Looks like Rakim Jarrett read this morning's Boarding House.
Check this accounts story, my friend texted me this : https://instagram.com/recruitology?igshid=1k0vxpeopncc4
He didnt read boarding house or 11W.. some Ohio state fan boy page screenshot what was said above and used it as "breaking recruiting news" on IG. He saw it on there.. the fan boy pages on IG are so annoying and honestly just as bad as people that directly tweet at recruits.
That site is amazing in so many ways.
Here's my thoughts on this: while I obviously find these IG and Twitter accounts annoying, Rakim is choosing to acknowledge them.
Honestly it's all about keeping the spotlight on him. He commits to LSU and throws shade at other fan bases saying it was fun "trolling them". Then, after a few months of being committed, deletes everything LSU-related off of his social media and goes on a visit to Tennessee. And yet, despite all of that, has continually gone on IG and Twitter to dispel any rumors that he's leaving LSU even though his own actions are encouraging the rumors.
Either the dude is playing the game for clout or is really immature and isn't aware the impact his actions have. Either way, I can totally see Hartline not necessarily wanting to add that to his room, talent be damned.
Is he gonna decommit?
After it become apparent we were not pursuing Henry Gray, I stopped reading up on things about him but saw at one time PSU was cb’ing towards him, then TTUN also heard he was going to Florida with a buddy, now on the cb site he just got someone to cb him as foggy, anyone?
Some have mentioned that he is expected to go to Florida. Wingo is pushing for him to join him there.
Giving up on recruiting the south would be a drastic mistake. Look at the players we have pulled out of the south in recent years: Ryan Shazier, Bradley Roby, Joey Bosa, Von Bell, Nick Bosa, Jeffrey Okudah, etc. The west coast just does not produce that kind of defensive talent particularly along the defensive line.
Ohio State already seems to be falling behind in recruiting along the front seven on defense. No longer recruiting Georgia and Florida would only make that worse.
Ohio State already seems to be falling behind in recruiting along the front seven on defense
LMAO. I needed a good laugh today
Yes, having two top 10 defensive ends for 2021 is already pretty telling where that position is trending. And it’s down.( one committed and let’s be honest the other is in too)
OSU only has one elite recruit (Zach Harrison) along the front seven in the 2019 and 2020 classes. Compare that to what Clemson and Alabama are doing.
Elite defensive lines are what wins in college football.
You better let the coaches know about this pronto.
My buddy in high school had a chihuahua named Spanky
I noticed you left out 2018, who are currently Sophomores or RS Freshman, in which we took:
#6 DT (Now playing DE, Tyler Friday)
And also 2021, where we have the #1 DE committed
DL is not a need in 2020, because we're absolutely loaded with young DL talent.
Don't worry Spanky, we'll sign some uncommitted underrated 3* DL in December. We'll be good (sarcasm)
We will have had four top 4 classes in five years after 2020 wraps up. The only other school in the country that can say that is Alabama. I think we’re okay.
Ohiostate missing or not winning the playoffs the last few years most definitely hasn't been because of shortage of good d-lineman.
You can’t recruit 4 top 100 players at one position every year. We have plenty of young talent at DL. It’s ok to have a down year on one position while the others are doing well.
This is the second class in a row with questionable recrutiing along the defensive front seven. If you want to compete with Clemson and Alabama that will have to change. Otherwise we are going to turn into a Big 12 team.
I would like to start a petition to get Spanky3000 removed from this glorious website
I guess you can do that if you want but it would be a dick move.
We had 2 top DEs in last class and 2 4* LBers in last season's class. I'm not sure what you are getting at here when our front 7 recruiting has another 4* DT this year and likely 2-3 more 4* LBers.
I do understand we haven't brought in stud after stud in the last 2 classes (19 and 20) but 2021 will be DL heavy after 2018 was DL heavy. Still, we haven't done a bad job based on what is still on the team. Harrison, who is a stud, probably won't get many snaps this season because we are already so deep on the DL this season
Who want's to tell him that prior to 2020, Clemson hasn't signed a top 100 DT since Dexter Lawrence in 2016
Bob, did you get a new username?
Listen Captain Spanks a lot. You’ve been part of 11W since 01/19. Every comment to this point has been whining and complaining. Enough already. Take your sky is falling nonsense over to MGO and leave the posting to the adults.
You need to be humble or you will get humbled. - Jocko Willink
LOL @ Captain Spanks a lot!
I will add Spank Master Jam.
Questionable recruiting based on star rankings? What are you basing your statement on? People on this website get caught up in star rankings too often. Just because a player is ranked as a three-star does not mean that he is not going to be a great player. For instance, Craig Young was a three-star last year, but he has all the attributes that a coach desires: size, speed, length. Similarly, Jaden Mckenzie could also turn out to be a great player.
Does trolling ever get boring?
Sure, if the fish stop biting it gets very boring
I disagree, fishing is never boring.
On the interwebz no one can see that you are "special"...................
Some people would find a reason to whine even if we had the number 1 class. Smdh
Out of all the position groups to be concerned about, DL is among the lowest concern for OSU over the past handful of years.
OSU Fan & Alum living in SEC Country
I know I'm not liked here but I have been providing solid info. I already said Jarrett will not be a take. Don't worry I'm not going to post to often
"I think we are done with wide receivers for this class. I would even go as far as saying even Rakim Jarrett is not even a take at this point ridiculous as its sounds. Mookie probably took his spot. That's how good our group is in this class"
I believe it. We have 4 guys at the position in the top 85. I dont recall a class that seems to get along like this one and actively recruits other players like this one does. The last thing OSU needs is someone who's going to stir shit up publicly.
Dude....it's not that you aren't liked. It's just that people don't like you acting like you're an insider when you get your information from the same internet sources as everyone else. Stop acting like you know more than everyone and bragging about your predictions and then no one will resent you
I have no take on whether you have inside info or not. But in your quote you say “I think we’re done with wide receivers”. That’s an opinion, not facts. I thought we were done at WR when we got Mookie too.
But if you’ve got some inside goods, by all means please share them with us. It’s what makes the community great.
It sounds like Jarrett, himself, doesn't even really want in. His family wants him at OSU, but for whatever reason, he doesn't feel the same way. Who knows if he ends up at LSU, but he missed his chance to be in this OSU class when he started playing so many games. If I had to bet on it, I bet he ends up flipping somewhere like Tennessee in the end.
I think everyone is more than happy with taking Fleming, Scott, JSN, and Mookie and calling it a day, especially with Ballard already committed in 2021 and guys like Harrison and Egbuka being VERY interested.
And don’t forget about Styles 2021. Thought I read a couple places he might already be a silent verbal?
I kinda feel bad for Jarrett's mom-she realizes her kid is impulsive and flaky and is trying to guide him, but there is only so much one can do...............it's his future/college experience
Too bad she didn't realize that 12 years ago.
I like you, man.
If you have recruiting news i dont know, keep it coming.
614, I say keep posting and people can decide what to do with the opinion or information.
I am curious though as to why you quoted yourself from a 7/3/19 post.
Do you have a source or know someone from inside the program? Or do you just get recruiting scoop as a hobby? I don’t care either way, but I think people are curious as to the source of your info.
The gullibility of people continues to amaze me.
Clock strikes 12 twice a day. Calling it now...
Guys, I talked to my source inside the program.
They said they think could be the best WR group Weve ever recruited. Take it FWIW
The clock only strikes every two hours?
Vernon Broughton cuts his list to Texas and Texas A&M.
Well that’s a bummer. But go Aggies at this point.
Where did you see this? I can't seem to find it.
From here sir: https://instagram.com/thekid_bigv?igshid=um5yriwl8sya
Thanks. Not an IG guy, so didn't even go there.
AE definitely had this pegged all along when he said Broughton would not leave the state of Texas.
I hope he realizes what he is doing to Bob and Spanky.
Post of the day, in my opinion
Even though jarret didn't want to come to Ohio State, I think it speaks volumes about the culture that has been built and continues to be built at Ohio State. Back to d line recruiting I believe Cowan will be a buckeye in the end.
Rivals Mike Farrel and 247 sports Barton Simmons are in a Twitter war lol.
Could you elaborate on this?
How it started: https://twitter.com/rivalsmike/status/1149869676991778816?s=19
Barton's response: https://twitter.com/bartonsimmons/status/1149886620784631808?s=19
Haha. Mike roach had the audacity to reply to Barton’s response like he isn’t writing for clicks lately.
I'm only seeing a couple posts. Idk if I would consider that a twitter "war."
I find it tough to criticize 247 in these situations. I give them credit for looking for emerging players and not always just sticking with the "name" players. Sometimes we may not agree with it like when they jumped the gun with Henry after he showed up injured to a camp, but at least they are proactive.
Henry Gray is a good example. 247 dropped him to about 400 and the other services haven't done the same. Gray's status as a prospect has changed and he isn't a take now for many of the top schools even though he would have been last fall. 247 was on that, like they are in a lot of situations. The composite becomes less and less important when Rivals and ESPN are nowhere near as proactive as 247.
Exactly, plus it's not like stats are the best measurable to use for DT's he can be blowing up plays that don't show up on the scoresheet.
