I'll take the under 10 wins.. easy money..

The take that continues to make me chuckle is when they say this is just the 90s in reverse. It's like they have no clue we had equal or better talent most years but Cooper just couldn't get the job done. The talent level since Tress took over between us them seems to get wider every year.  More size, more speed, more athletes, NFL guys etc etc. To quote Colin Cowherd.. "Michigan is a Northern team.. like Norwestern, Wisky, MSU and Washington... Ohio State is a Southern team playing in the North.."

"The winningest team of all time" thing gets old. Yes, Fielding Yost was a great coach, but that was 100 years ago. Very old.

The writer partly gets it when he half-realizes that other teams are highly motivated to beat Michigan. But he's wrong overall because everyone wants to beat the Buckeyes more -- why? Because we're better year in and year out.

But there's a laundry list of UM fanbase delusions:
1) "This is our year" (as if championships are given on a turn basis).
2) "Coach needs to get his guys" (when #1 doesn't happen)
3) "Player X is definitely a Heisman candidate" (said in September)
4) Just changing topics whenever football isn't going well. Ignore their recruiting. Ignore their recent 18 years vs. Ohio State. Pretend it's a fluke and repeat with #1 before the next season.

Rashan Gary's Wonderlic score says hello.

I also like when Michigan fans pivot quickly from "we have higher academic standards" to "how dare you criticize Gary, he has a learning disability and that's why he does worse on Wonderlic than you would do just filling in B for all the answers."

It cracks me up when all the Website Walverines can’t figure out why elite athletes commit elsewhere “when they have an opportunity to get a degree from Michigan”. As if there’s a huge demand for a not-a-real-Kineseology degree.

HS
Dstacify's picture

I have a few scUM fan friends and from what they've described the school's current president, Mark Schlissel, is VERY similar to Drake in that he wishes athletics could be put more on the backburner so the school can be more academically focused (which in retrospect isn't a bad thing for a University president to want, it's just going to get a lot of pushback from donors). At schools like OSU and scUM that's always going to be an uphill battle because athletics carries such a huge presence at those schools.

A "friend" was wearing a Michigan Football shirt at a cook out I was at this weekend and of course being in Ohio there was 3-4-5 Ohio St fans there and we were all giving him shit about the state of Michigan Football after a couple minutes he starts coming back with us not beating them in Basketball at all this year and how their baseball team went to the CWS. So stated since he brough up game results I'll bring up Ohio St beating Michigan in baseball 3 of 4 games this year but we arnt a baseball school so we don't bring that up, he starts talking about basketball again and how dominant they are and etc so I ask him if he's so proud of Michigan Basketball why is he wearing a Michigan Football shirt?

He had no answer, obviously.

Ohio State got knocked by Vandy too. Not saying that OSU would have made the CWS if they had Michigan's seeding but runs like that are just as much about who you play and when. OSU had momentum coming of winning the BIG tourney, who knows how far they could have gotten otherwise.

I went over there and saw the thread about the Malik Mcdowell arrest video. I expected some ignorance in that thread but the absolute worst is the delusion that they would have kept McDowell out of trouble with their vastly superior education and moral compass unlike those dirty spartans. I also saw this comment haha.  It's hilarious, someone said they dodged a bullet by not having him on the team.  I'm like, uhhh yeah you definitely didn't want an All-American on your team to help you beat OSU because he was arrested 3 years after college.  Their thinking is absolutely insane.

The board is about 50/50 in my readings.  Half of them have accepted what Michigan football has become with hopes of the program gaining steam to get back to the top.  That half, in my opinion, are pretty even keel when discussing OSU as well.  Yes they hate OSU, but they usually are at least smart enough to tell the other posters to shut up until they beat OSU.  So it's not all bad.

The other half, however, are constantly grasping at straws.  From the aforementioned "cheating" that only UM fans know about that goes on in Columbus, to them having truly convinced each other that Urban/OSU straight up covered up domestic abuse (weird that Smith is now running a successful podcast and isn't in court facing jail time), it's hard to read.  I have commented 2 or 3 times when someone has just an insane opinion where I have corrected them, and of course it's silence from there since they have no rebuttal.

But if you want to read some entertaining stuff, and you are out of new 11W material...it's amazing over there.  Non-OSU bias though....someone needs to fix the design of their site.  It's like someone put it together in 2003 and it hasn't changed.

I hate how they look at some of the "turmoil" of the recent years at OSU (tat-gate, the ZS deal) and somehow they take that as a win for Michigan... What is that? It's like there is some negative press about the athletic department at Ohio State and somehow that equates to Michigan being better?

Now that Phil Steele claims UM will beat OSU this year and go 12-0 and to the college playoff, they are just full of themselves. Evidently he's never been wrong. I love the comments that after you break it down it means that the only reason Tressel was able to beat UM was because he covered for tattoos. What really tickles me is that these guys that are picking UM this year always mention their new offense like it's unique in the universe with secret new plays. They haven't even seen it and yet it's a dominating force. Once again there will be a day when reality will smack them down again and they will claim it's because we pay players or number of other delusions rather than face the fact they are irrelevant.

And somehow completely gloss over the fact that the only thing that has kept Michigan competitive for the past decade, their defense, just lost two of their top coaches and 3/4 of the firepower on the defensive side of the ball.  All of a sudden, in a matter of one offseason, they are going from a defensive team to a Big 12 team.

HS

All because they got a new OC from Alabama, who has never called plays before, and uttered the words "speed in space".  You have to have speed first...not easy when a quarter of your roster is 2-3* tight ends and full backs.

I don't understand how everybody thinks TTUN's offense will be so great and Justin Fields will be a bust, when neither have been seen in full force. I mean, give Fields a chance to prove himself before you say he's going to be a bust. And don't say he didn't perform well in the Spring game because that doesn't count and nobody cares about that. On the other side, it'll take a lot longer than one offseason for a full team to learn a completely new offensive system, so hold your horses on saying TTUN's offense is going to be great. Good, maybe; mediocre, perhaps; but not great yet

That's a Buckeye touchdown!

Agree 100%. Crazy thing is they don't have a starting QB right now. Harbaugh said on Friday that they are going to reinvent what "starting QB" means. They are going to play McCaffery a bunch I guess. There's also talk that Shea has off field issues that are hurting his draft chances. Harbaugh didn't even bring his September Heisman to BIG media days. Going to be an interesting year up there. New coaches. No running backs. QB controversy. Get your popcorn ready.

It’s summer. That means Michigan hype season. Media wants hargarbage to win so desperately there.

Michigan fans highly overrate their teams about as much as Tennessee fans. They fall back on the tired academic BS and try to rob the moral high ground when they lose to make themselves feel better. They love the superiority card even though it is hallow.

1) The second reason they have ever lost a game, besides the other teams all cheating, is that the refs jobbed them.  Any game.  Not just "the spot". (btw, they got the spot right).  If you read the ongoing during their baseball run, they were complaining about the strike zone.....EVERY PITCH.  Some of their forums, they'll dissect losses over the last few years and conclude that if the refs hadn't been obviously against them, they'd have been National champs about 6 times in the last 10 years....lol

2) Academics: obviously, as stated, their General Studies is equivalent to anything from Yale or Harvard.

3) They have "special plays" they are just saving for the right time.  Not just with Gattis.  During their revenge tour  epic failure of last season, they kept telling each other that Jimmy had these top secret plays he'd been saving all year to pull out against OSU....because you know, you never need to actually work on plays under actual game conditions to be successful....unless you're OSU with a first time 12 gauge throwing bombs all night.

He's right about the arrogance aspect of what he said...that could certainly motivate people.

But when exactly in the actual fuck does OSU ever run into an "unmotivated, listless, uninterested team"?  Very rarely (hell, OSU is that team more often than we'd like).  And why is that?  Is it OSU's past accomplishments on the football field, or their strong academics?  No, and definitely not.  It's about trying to knock off one of the big boys in college football.  Probably the same for TTUN, as much as you can call them one of the big boys anymore.

There are surely some annoying UM fans, but that doesn't make them all bad.  I think most generalizations, while have some truth to them on a large scale, are unfair to many.  I'm sure it wouldn't be fair to characterize you as being the same as all other OSU fans.  There are level headed ones and complete homers in all fan bases.  Just like some OSU fans are wait and see on a new HC & unproven QB whereas others assume a new HC will be better than a future HOFer and Fields will be one of the best QBs in the nation based on little more than recruiting rankings.

Well to be fair a majority of Michigan fans felt the same way about Patterson when he got to Michigan...him being the savior and all because he was a high recruit.

I find it a bit frustrating that if fields was still at Georgia he probably would be getting more credit. It seems when he came to Ohio State that all the sudden he became a marginal guy by most other fan bases and national media.

I'm trying to remember back if the expectation was that he was going to be one of the best in the nation, or just a significant upgrade from his predecessor.  I'm sure there were probably a bit of both and the louder ones were probably the more homer-ish ones, which is certainly annoying to a rival fanbase and probably sticks in the memory more.

If thats the case I don't blame you.  Personally I paid no attention to him until he transferred since he wasn't going to play next year at UGA.  That both opens him up to scrutiny and stardom, depending on how he fares, which in some ways is a tip of the hat to OSU because he has a lot to live up to.  The speculation will be over soon enough and we can analyze his performance.

I think part of it is psychological. As in, we're the #1 all-time wins team, we're better academically than almost everyone we ever play, and we're arrogant as hell. Usually rightfully so. All that combines to piss people off, and so we meet an unmotivated, listless, uninterested team much less frequently than other schools do.

How ironic that TSUN's current HC and alumnus had this to say about his alma mater (the internet is forever, as they say):

“College football needs Stanford. We’re looking not for student athletes but scholar-athletes. No other school can carry this banner. The Ivy League schools don’t have enough weight [because of their low athletic level]. Other schools which have good academic reputations have ways to get borderline athletes in and keep them in.”

“Michigan is a good school and I got a good education there,” he said, “but the athletic department has ways to get borderline guys in and, when they’re in, they steer them to courses in sports communications. They’re adulated when they’re playing, but when they get out, the people who adulated them won’t hire them.”

At least Coach is honest about it all.
