Ryan Day’s Percy Harvin
Anything you want you should have
Is it bad that I hate the label of a player as a "Percy Harvin"-type? That was forever ago and there are players that do it better than Harvin did. Also, Urban is gone. Why can't he just be Ryan Day's Mookie?
To give anything less than your best is to sacrifice the gift.
Nope, not at all.
It seems pretty weird to call a high school recruit a potential "Percy Harvin" given that today's recruits might have never actually even seen Harvin play college football. Especially given that it's a completely different school and (from OSU perspective), 2006-2008 is now four coaching changes in the past - Tressel to interim Fickell to Meyer to Day.
Which players have done it better than Harvin did?
UFM never had the RBs at Florida like he did at TOSU, so he probably leaned on Harvin more than he would have if Harvin played for the Bucks. That said, Curtis Samuel, Parris Campbell, and KJ Hill are comparable. Fact is, there are similar players for the Buckeyes who warrant comparisons before "a Percy Harviin" type comparison. Meyer used the term less and less as time went on. Time to put that one in the closet. Just sayin.
“Being average means you are as close to the bottom as you are to the top.” John Wooden
Denver, I would say Curtis Samuel did it better than Percy and I would say Parris Campbell as well.
To quote Charlie Lockhart of Scarlet of scarletandgame.com
In 2007 Harvin rushed for 764 yards and had 59 receptions for 868 yards. He had 1,622 total yards from scrimmage and scored 10 touchdowns.
In 2016 Samuel rushed for 771 yards and caught 74 passes for 865 yards. His total yards from scrimmage was 1,636 with 15 scores.
Slight edge to Samuel in yards, but Curtis also scored 5 more touchdowns than PH, whose name should not ever again be mentioned by Ohio State fans or sports reporters.
Our honor defend, so we'll fight to the end !
Great post, IBuck. I believe the stats backed CS > PH but I couldn’t recall for certain. Either way, I prefer using a Buckeye to describe the role and not an entitled Florida player.
Folks have mentioned Parris and Curtis Samuel.
Rondale Moore comes to mind as well.
It's not about who did it better, even though some players may have been better in the role without being featured as heavily. It's about moving on from a player who was the weapon of choice for a past Ohio State coach at a previous school of his. We don't always have to connect things back to Urban or his offensive game plan. We are in a new era with a new coach. Let's embrace that.
Is it bad that I hate the label of a player as a "P— H—"-type
Not only is it not bad, it's smarter to call a player a "Curtis Samuel" type.
To why Samuel was better, see my further comment above.
He looks like a combination of Braxton Miller and Orlando Pace.
Percy Harvin should be tattooed on Tim Tebow's face.
You Got Barbecue Back There!?!?!?!
I think this closes out WR recruiting for '20 unless one of the "must take" kids ends up wanting to come to OSU. What a freakin' positional group within this class. Damn fine job by the coaching staff.
Urban Meyer left an incredible legacy. 12/4/18 Ryan Day begins his.
I think this is quite appropriate for this group...
Who in there right mind would want to come on board with this crew and Jarrett would be my only take.
I mean, what WR in their right mind wouldn't want to get coached by Brian Hartline? I think at this point you're only looking at the very tippy top guys as potential adds, but we have needs elsewhere, so I think they're pretty well set.
This is awesome.
Cooper, Fleming, Scott, Smith-Njigba.
Kudos, Coach Hartline...go Buckeyes.
I had to run away high, so I wouldn't come home low...
Great class, four top twenty receivers. Need an OL that can protect to give Fields enough time to throw to them.
Hartline is the greatest recruiter ON EARTH!
"Kiss my Converse!!" -- Sho 'Nuff the Master
Don't get carried away good luck next year getting a repeat of this although the Massillon kid is a good start.
Only need to repeat it every other year...
5'8" 190 lbs. How much weight can he put on?
Yeah, I've seen this in several places. If he's a legit 190+ lbs... there's absolutely no need for him to gain weight at 5-8 or whatever he is. That is pretty damn stocky.
I get that it's pretty much an easy critique / throw-in comment for all incoming freshmen, but it just doesn't fit. From looking at pics though he doesn't look 190+
NONE just get stronger like Ben Victor lol
Rondale Moore is 5’9 and 175, he seemed to do just fine in the B1G.
Boooooom! Welcome aboard Mookie.
I assume that means no more WR slots available, I don't see a whole lot of options that would improve on that haul.....
This receiver class is absolutely insane. It’s very possible that all four WR commits end up ranked in the top 10 in their position and two will probably be 5 stars. If I’m Robinson I’d be committing to OSU today. With that group of WR there’s no way any team will be able to stack the box.

Crazy WR haul. This room is loaded for the foreseeable future.

Not sure I understand why he needs to gain weight. At 5’8”, he already has a stocky body. I think the strength staff is probably more focused on increasing his strength and explosiveness as an athlete. You hardly ever see slot receivers weigh over 200 pounds, even in the NFL.
This is definitely where I parked my car.
Agreed. In fact, at 5'8, if he's not already at an ideal weight (and I'm pretty sure his muscle/fat ratio is fine), I doubt he could afford to gain much more than10 pounds.
Cooper's size reminds me of Mike Adamle, who was a fullback at Northwestern and the Big Ten MVP in 1970. He played 6 years in the NFL. Unfortunately, he was diagnosed with CTE-induced dementia in 2017.
So Mookie has the size to play in the B1G and more. Just protect your head.
Well, we're 52 forums in on the 2020 class, and we finally have a Mike Adamle reference. Finally.
Not being disrespectful, I’ve never heard of him.
No disrespect taken, Silver. I think Ibuck and I may be close to the same age to remember Adamle.
Watching his highlight film...Mookie is just so damn quick in traffic. Can't wait to watch him play.
There was one play where it was getting crowded in the middle of the field and the D was closing in on him when he suddenly popped outside and took it up the sideline. Made it look so effortless.
I dig the highlights man. He seems aggressive
I know Jack Miller and Kyle McCord are terrific prospects, but if I'm the #1 Pro prospect QB recruit, OSU has got my FULL attention with this insane WR haul.
Jack is #2, and Kyle is #5 for 2021. What exactly are you hoping for?
Look at the top QB recruit in the last 10 years. Top 10 is good enough. Number 1 does not always pan out.
This guy reminds me a lot of Tavon Austin. Cant wait to see him in the scarlet and grey!
Love the first minute of him laying people out with blocks. Also, he doesn't seem to slow down in traffic which is impressive.
Even though he needs to add weight – 5-foot-8, 193 pounds – he is very strong and has a low center of gravity when he’s got the ball.
From his video, it looks like he has some baby fat around his middle that he needs to do something about, so he can either get lighter or convert that fat into muscle.
Suffice to say he's got an appointment with "Body By Mick."
Welcome aboard, Mookie.

The dude is pretty ripped. I would take that body as a Junior in high school.
Top 100 Players
Nebraska - 1
Wisconsin - 1
Penn State - 1
_ichigan - 2
Ohio State - 8
Any way this can shared on MGo for peak trolling?
8 for tOSU vs 5 for the rest of the conference = embarrassment of disparity.
Buckeyes & Blue Jackets.
What about Bama and Clemson you seem to just want to win the B10. Don't feel bad there are other's out there that feel that way too. Recruit only Ohio players and 3 stars. Seems like a year we needed wr's and getting one from Ohio there wasn't any but the Massillon kid will be a good one next year and a good thing because after this years haul good luck in getting a repeat.
Depends on how things work out for these guys. And they don't have to until the year after next.
I am a fan of this math.
The entire first minute of highlights is him blocking and just knocking DBs down. I'm sure that sold OSU immediately
On his highlights tape at 3:12 I like how #33 on Defense is like "Really guys? Nobody covered #5?"
Welcome aboard Mookie!
16-2 is SWEET!
Welcome to the family, Mookie!
There is nothing wrong with the name "Mookie," but soon we'll be calling him, "Super Duper Cooper!"
I'd rather be an hour early than a minute late.
Let’s just say no one will be Hangin with Mr. Cooper.
This guy's gonna be our own Rondale Moore.
Suck it Purdue -- we comin' for that ass
Purdue better be a 12pm kickoff. Don't want to give those a-holes any acknowledgement.
I’m lost because I didn’t know we’re playing Purdue this year.
Mookie won't be on the team this year either. I'm pretty sure he's talking about whenever we do play them next.
I was thinking the same and the PSU kid fits that mold some too.
If you're a HS senior QB and your name isn't Jack Miller, you have to be so jealous. I wonder if any of them are trying to contact Ryan Day?
Hartline is just killing it on the recruiting trail...……...
Enjoying daily the 62-39 ttun beatdown.
"I think Alabama would beat Ohio State if they played next weekend!" Clay Travis Fox Sports Post Championship Show 1.12.2015. Needs no explanation.
Either Mookie is exceptionally good or the opposing teams are really bad. Either way, GLAD WE GOT EM! Welcome aboard Mookie!
Just keep going. Everybody gets better if they keep at it...
Give Hartline a raise!
On the field, Cooper looks even faster than his recent 4.49 time in the 40.
Maybe it's those lightning-quick Rondale Moore style cuts, eh?
Meanwhile, gee, I'm gettin' the feeling that it's more than a coincidence that in the roughly 1 1/2 years since Hartline took over coaching the WRs, the Buckeyes have had their best year ever receiving plus two years running of the best-ever WR recruiting, not to mention the best year of WRs being drafted into the NFL.
Kinda makes a guy feel like the Buckeyes just might be a serious passing threat in the 2019 season (and now far beyond)--heck, maybe even if Fields did get injured (although, fingers crossed that he doesn't, of course).
As an added note, it now seems like a virtual lock that the Buckeyes will finish with a top 5 class, the best guess being they'll finish between 3-5, which basically translates to a National Championship caliber roster.
It also means that in Year One of the Day Era, there will not have been a recruiting falloff from the Meyer Era, which is no small thing.
In short, we're in Reload Mode vs. Rebuild Mode, which is huge, because Rebuilds are a lot less certain (see TTUN for further reference).
And kudos to Meyer for setting the stage for the Reload Mode, despite some major challenges.
Maybe this will shut up all the doomsayers complaining about us signing 3-stars. We have a Mookie.
"You're the patron saint of the totally effed" - Hot Tub Time Machine
I know, that was getting old as hell. Especially given that there’s no way Martinez ends up as a three star when all is said and done. Some of the others will likely get a bump as well.
“...continuing through [Olave], Wilson, Williams, ...”
It’s hard not to be excited about the one name that was overlooked.
impressive at 5'9 190. but who cares? if you can play you can play... reminds me of that little fucker from purdue that helped them whooooop our ass..
That helped them? It was literally him that whooped our ass! Not one person on the whole D could keep up with him and the coaches were shitting their pants not knowing how to scheme for him.
What in the hell does, "what she gone eat", mean???
Motivational tactic from a few years ago. As in, how are you going to provide for your family? Not such a great story these days.
Four WR set with no tight end and a single RB.
X receiver - Fleming
Y receiver - Scott
Z receiver - NJigba
Slot - Cooper
Who does a defense double team and who gets single coverage? If Coach Stud can coach up a line to pick up blitzes and be five monster pass blockers then "whoah Nelly". How does a DC scheme for that? IDK, I guess that's why they make the big bucks. Just a thought
