Thanks for all you did for the Program Thad. The biggest thanks for doing it the right way.
Forgot about the O’Brien scandal...which today seems tame in comparison to other scandals which have occurred in basketball with little penalty.
O 'brien "scandal" was a joke and more ncaa bs. That said, thank you Thad for years of 20+ win seaons to be proud of.
So grateful to have had him, both as a coach and a person, for our Buckeyes.

Fifteen years ago today the trajectory of the program changed forever.
I for one was thrilled when Thad was hired, because I knew deep down he'd get Buckeye basketball back on track. And he certainly did, even if it did tail off just a bit at the end.
Yeah, that was a pretty good hire.
Couldn't have said it better.
Thanks for everything, Thad.
I was attending a football game back in the Pryor years and came across Coach Matta hosting a couple recruits. It was on the 'Shoe corner of the Lane/Olentangy River Road intersection. Thad was talking with the young men with a big ole dip of snuff in his bottom lip. Made me chuckle as it seemed the kids were getting a "this is me" recruiting trip!
Thanks for erasing the mid 90s from my memory in terms of OSU basketball, coach!
I was a valet at the Blackwell hotel back then, and at about 10:55 one night I was bringing the stand back inside for the night, as I was off work at 11. A car pulls up to the stoplight there, and I was like please just drive on past.... it didn't, it pulled in, I was pissed, and went over to the drivers door, and out steps Thad Matta lol. Not sure if that was the exact same day or not, but Barb wasn't even in town to go house shopping yet, so it could have been that specific day. At any rate, chatted him up for a minute, and I remember him saying he knows he has to beat TTUN to be able to stick around. Did he ever! Such a great guy.
Cool story Schwab. My work gave me the opportunity to go to Thads house a couple times back then. Never got to see him but his wife and little girl were very friendly. Obrien had that one nice year, and after that he sucked. I'll never get over his thinking that OSU was not capable of getting top recruits. If Thad never had that back problem he would have been here and put up unbeatable numbers. Hope he has found peace.

Thank you coach Matta!!
Thanks a ton Thad. It was a great run. Sure at the end it tailed off but I believe you did it the right way and thanks for that. Seeing what was going on with the money scandal I appreciate that you did not get caught up in it. You passed it on to our new coach and hopefully he keeps it going in the right direction.....
Thad Matta = class act.
I remember being afraid that tOSU would blow their chance to hire Matta. I'm glad Geiger got it done!
Great man, great coach! Did it the right way, legally!! Thanks Coach.
Beat everyone, in every sport, all the time!!!
He is a great person. He is and was a great Coach. We were very fortunate to have him as the leader of our program.
Yes, he certainly deserves an "I Like Thad" button in scarlet and gray. Classy guy.
Still wearing a conference tourney champ tee from 2011. Thank you, man.
Thad was a great coach who made us all proud. If it weren't for his back, he would still be stalking the sidelines. Just a fine man who ran a clean and successful program. Life just isn't fair.
Great hire and even better results. Still feel he got hosed.
Come on ...towards the end his team was running him....It was evident by the play on the court.....and that play was BAD.

His "ums" were impressive and by the end of his stint here, people were just coming to the schott for the beer and fries.
Coaches have a shelf life-even great coaches like Matta. I’ll always be grateful for the best era of Buckeye hoops in my lifetime.
I’ll admit at the time I was skeptical of the hire. One year at Butler and three at Xavier, where he already had David West. I wasn’t sold on him based on such a scant resume. Glad I was wrong and it worked out so well.
Thanks to Thad for all he did for Ohio State and it’s basketball program. He will always be a part of the Buckeye family.
Thad is one IMO that we will only appreciate more as time goes on. If Holtmann gets that long-awaited 2nd NC, I think Thad will be seen as the guy who re-established program expectations. If Holtmann doesn't continue on this current trajectory (looks great so far!) then I think Thad's first 7 years are seen as the second "glory days" of OSU basketball along with the early 60s.
Those last 3 years were a slide, but ultimately the overall results are still VERY successful.
