Good? No Great!!!
Beat everyone, in every sport, all the time!!!
Definitely great! What Day has done is pretty remarkable.
Fields of Dreams
Got to hand it to him, he is a great recruiter.
Great? No Elite!! We ain't Penn State!
The juice is worth the squeeze
Give me Ransom, Robinson and Cooper, and anything else is just gravy
With Ricks as a bonus and we’re talking about a Natty in a couple years
Hope Coach Day continues another trend we enjoyed with Coach Meyer! That is, generally pull in one surprise commit at signing time!! Looking forward to see how the recruiting rounds out. Really looking forward to seeing the production on the field. Less than two months to wait! It should be fun!!!
This has been a fun last month with recruiting for Buckeye fans. Day and his staff seem to be doing a tremendous job getting the positions of need in this class. I really like where they're at with a ways to go until the first signing day. I would love to see them land at least one 5 star RB and a second guy who is under the radar from Ohio. The wide receiver class is unreal and sounds like it good get even better if Mookie Cooper commits soon. Keep up the great work coaches!
With basic needs pretty much met, Day can afford to "swing for the fences" as he looks to fill the remaining slots.
In that case my pipe dream would be Sav’ell Smalls. Incredible talent
" It's real good whatcha done Anthony, real good ! "
Flipping Elias Ricks from LSU is my dream scenario. Would like to see Okudah blow-up into a 1st round pick, and the development of Wade as a star "in-waiting" for the 2021 draft might just do the trick.
Looks like a Bama lean for Smalls. OSU not in his top 5. Nice looking player though, would be a good fit at LB.
In old Ohio there's a team that's known throughout the land...
Yep. Bama will surely enjoy this versatile kid
4 or 5 star RB and linebackers would fill the stocking nicely for 2020! Everything else is UFM level recruiting. It's gonna be a fun year to watch Coach Day in his inaugural season, even if there is a bump or two in the road.
Couple things: Are you only allowed to have 25 commitments at a time or only sign a maximum of 25?(Unfortunately the two aren’t equivalent). Also what is the signing target for this class of 2020?
The soldier is my son. The school I gone to didn’t teach much grammar.
You can have whatever number of commits you want but the NCAA limits the number signed in each class to 25 players. You can get around this a little bit by some of the players enrolling early and counting against the previous year but the Big Ten limits the number of total signed players in the Dec-May to 28, regardless of what class they count against. After signing day the school can be over the 85 scholarship limit, but has to get back down to 85 by the start of fall camp. For Ohio State the real hard limit is going to be that they have to stay under the 85 total scholarship limit, which is why they don't sign 28 every year.
Great explanation Netbuck. Seems like in the past I recall that the target was 22 or like 18 last year. Bthis year it seems like they’re going to the max number. Day seems not to be a candidate to over sign. I wonder if he also won’t allow commitments to exceed the amount they can sign. Your more likely to get the best candidates with a broad net, that is until the fish become aware that the net catch gets sorted.
You know it’s going to be an incredible clas swhen players like Kourt Williams, Martinez, are in the generic list, Paige, Drennen etc might not even get In, just incredible what Day, Hartline, Jeff H, Al W, are doing. Already loving these new coaches hires
A strong finish is always a good thing. Make it happen, Coach.
“Being average means you are as close to the bottom as you are to the top.” John Wooden
Most of the hope coming from the BIG other-rans was that Day can't possibly recruit as well as Meyer, therefore the Bucks will fall off, therefore their teams can finally catch up.
If we finish top three nationally, the butthurt will be strong with them.
To err is human. Really sucking requires having yellow stripes on your helmet.
It's a great start, but nothing is locked up until the commitments are signed.. Let's hope for a great season-nothing recruits better than success on the field.
Pigskins & Porkrinds
RB. No flips. Last second boom. .....And scene.
I know there's a game Saturday, and my ass will be there.
I Believe In Ohio State.
I’m also nearing completion thinking about how good this class could be.
Anglefan, unfortunately I can't cosine this sentiment.
So, where did the watts thing come from? I haven’t heard his name mentioned around here recently, if ever. He’s been committed to OK since April. Is this speculation based upon their employment of Grinch?
according to Spooner, Givler mentioned to look for an official by Watts to us for a game this fall
I wondered about that too. Maybe it's just wishful thinking, hoping that we can scoop up the next OK db decommit. Grinch has apparently run off at least three of the guys that they had committed, including one this weekend, so maybe Hafley has detected a vulnerability?
My aim, then, is to whip the Weasels, to humble their pride, to follow them to their inmost recesses, and make them fear and dread us. Fear is the beginning of wisdom. - William Tecumseh Sherman (with apologies)
Grinch losing recruits? Thats shocking
I can hear the sales pitch now
"Come play safety for me kid, and I'll teach you how to tackle just like Isaiah Pryor and Jahsen Wint!"
I am a proponent of the Mark Dantonio three star player recruiting / player development model. Yet I freely admit that you cannot teach speed, the commodity that has separated the Buckeyes from the rest of the BIG10 over the last seven years. Coach Day appears to be on track to be a good, if not great, recruiter.
Too much time spent at the North Heidelberg rather than the classroom. SSD 68-72
I was a proponent of Urban getting the best player from wherever and competing for and winning championships. And especially this record: Ohio State: 83–9 54–4. 7-0 vs UM.
That will get you nothing but a b10 championship every 8 to 10 years and never a final 4
If Dantonio were here, we’d get plenty of 4*s and the occasional 5*s. We would be in the hunt for the playoff every year.
I'm really hoping for Bijan and Knighton. They would be a great 1..2 punch. I would in terms of depth and talent the RB room might be the weakest unit of the entire team. Alford has not done a great job recruiting here aside from Dobbins. Snead could've been special but we all know what happened there.
RB room might be the weakest unit of the entire team
The guys in the depth chart behind Dobbins have not had much playing time yet. There is some good talent there that will show in the upcoming season.
"one can't imagine too many complaints"
Yet, you know some will complain no matter what. ;)
You Got Barbecue Back There!?!?!?!
Ransom is trending now on 24/7 CB picks to the Buckeyes. There has been almost a negligible drop off in recruiting from Urban to Day. Would be good if we could secure the commitment of at least one of those DL from N. Carolina.
I don’t consider it a drop off at all. Urban retired in the recruitment cycle and Day was able to come in, get rid of the defense coaching staff that needed to be gone and still kept Lejond, brought in Phillips, Martinez, Kept Henry an PJ as well. Cody S, looking like Ransom, Kourt W, will come, number 1 we, Fleming, all of this in a time of change/turmoil. Day is not a mirage but a younger version of Urban, suck on it TTUN
I would love to see both or at least 1 of them from N.C. but I just don’t think either are in the cards. The are abou 2 1/2 hours from me but in Charlotte, slot of the players end up either UNC, Georgia, Clemson. NC State, we Buckeyes seem to get some occasionally here in Raleigh. Still hoping I’m wrong
Johnson does not attract top defensive tackle talent like he does defensive ends.
Right Haskell Garrett and vincent/togiai in 2 classes...can’t recruit DT. We also like smaller DT which often come from SDE
Where did I say “he can’t recruit DT.” I said he doesn’t attract top DT talent (take 5 minutes to compare his results with Clemson). He has two good years verses how many years of missing out on our top DT targets? I think he’s an elite coach, but it’s clear since his arrival his strength is DE’s.
I generally don't get too excited about recruiting before ink is put to paper, is put to fax machine - but we're in as good a shape as possible. All that's left is to win games to avoid any perception that the on-field product might drop off without Meyer.
Like what’s happening so far. Nice job coach. Day seems less intimidating than UFM, I think we will see great recruiting while he is the HC.
Nothing left to do but go win it all.
I wouldn't mind another defensive back and defensive lineman TBH.
I think Mookie would be nice to get and probably will wind up here but would prefer another te and two running backs and go defense with how many other spots are left.
I'm still very much keeping my eye on cornerback at this point in time. Don't get me wrong, I think what the staff has done to this point has been impressive, but not getting a corner last cycle still stings, so I'd like to see them get at least 1 highly rated guy, and maybe a project guy with good size and speed.
I know spots are limited, so if they only take 1 more, make it a blue chipper, but it would be great to get a guy in the Gareon Conley mode (he was rated really nicely but had to be brought along). If they can get that done, then this class is for sure on that Meyer level, if they miss there it's still a helluva good class.
Urban Meyer left an incredible legacy. 12/4/18 Ryan Day begins his.
