I heard on sports radio here from non-apologists for The Ohio State University that the other man “flopped”, and it was obvious to them in the video.

Zeke, you still need to keep your nose clean. The only time ESPN should mention you is when you run Kam Chancellor over.

Happy Birthday USA.

That's good to hear, but everyone from a warm part of the country "loves being in the cold" until it's time to walk to class in the snow at 7:30 a.m. in -10 degree wind chill. I had Georgia blood in me, I know how it goes – It gets old really quick.

Regardless, I'm happy he's ready to play in the cold. I know everyone uses Ohio's climate against the Buckeyes on the recruiting trail, but that's always confused me because there seems like one really simple rebuttal to that: "Oh, so you don't plan on playing in the NFL, where half the games are played outside in cold weather?"

It's morning and it already feels miserable. Bring on the cold.

The Truth about Hansel and Gretel is a book I need to pick up after reading that link. What a tremendous work that is.

If bookies can’t get ttun money in the summer, when can they? Have to make the number palatable enough to get skunk weasel fans to buy in, and nothing gets them more excited than seeing odds which are better than those of TOSU. Brilliant reasoning by the book I have to say.

Giving Michigan better odds than Ohio State to win a national championship is like thinking France would defeat Hitler’s panzers because it had the world’s largest army firmly entrenched behind the Maginot Line. As France and Michigan both learned, speed kills. Those are lofty preseason expectations for a team that’s likely to have no choice but to start a true freshman at running back and if Zach Charbonnet doesn’t deliver, I don’t see Shea Butterson’s arm being able to carry them.

Perhaps, if Belgium had built their portion of the Maginot Line, the Whermacht would've had a bit more trouble in 1940. By completely avoiding the Maginot Line and advancing through the BeNeLux nations first, Hitler's army did more of a Paris Campbell pop pass around the right end for 80 yards. It was relying on a weaker ally for end containment that ultimately did France in. That, and Chamberlain rolling over ever time Germany violated the Treaty of Versailles.

I know OSU blew out UM last year despite UM being the favorite and that sticks in our minds.  But, I think if you look back at conversations on the board prior to the game you'll see that surprised most folks.  I'd be curious when the last time UM was the odds on favorite coming into the game and lost and how often that has happened.  I did a little searching and can't find historical data on odds.  I know UM hasn't won for a while which makes it hard to pick them, but I'd have to assume the odds are correct more often than not, even in this game, which means last year probably isn't going to happen again.

If i had my choice Id much rather be in the extreme heat than extreme cold. Your body can cool down easier than warming up. It was 95 in miami all week, heat index add 10 at least. Spent 10 years as a foreman in the roofing industry all over florida. The panhandle was the worst, Pensacola area, followed closely by ocala, gainesville and orlando.miami/fort lauderdale you at least get a good breeze. As i visit jobs now I just shake my head, how i did it all those years working physically in such suffocating heat, blows me away sometimes. Just walking in the heat and being outside 30 minutes and im soaked. God bless the person that developed dry fit material. Just as a superintendent my cotton shirts were soaked by 11am. I used to bring 3 sets of clothes to work every day. Thank god crude oil prices killed the asphalt market in roofing, used to mop 8 hours a day. Now TPO roof systems & 20-30 year warranties dominate the industry.mainly because of the price, they'll be lucky to last 15 years. Nothing more painful or annoying than a full body cramp. Tried all kind of ways to stay hydrated. No#1 is be hydrated before working outfoors. I eat a banana at night and in the morning, lots of water, 3-6 ounces of pickle juice every night, homemade smoothies with protein additives. My problem is my red bull addiction, 16-28 ounces daily which speeds up the dehydration process "THEY" say as well as my 2-3 beers after work.
In the extreme cold not a whole lot you can do other than dressing as warm as possible.one winter in Pensacola, we had a few days as low as 9 degrees.one of my buddies was from Louisiana, a very proud coon ass, Louisiana's version of hillbilly/country bumpkin if you will. He told me to try putting a pinch of cayenne pepper in each sock everyday. Dam it if it didn't work lol. The most important thing in the cold is your only comfortable as long as your extremities stay warm, hands and feet.feet being the most important working outdoors imo.if your feet are cold or god forbid wet, you are screwed. Miserable all day. The cayenne pepper really heats up the feet .
Kevin I agree that there will be days in the ohio winters when the wind chill will hit -10, but chances are classes will be cancelled on days like that. I've ran into kids coming from double session football practices down here and can't imagine how they do it. Brutal.
Hope everyone has a great and safe 4th of July. Don't ever apologize being a proud American. And most of all michigan still sucks, It's science.

I actually did less work in the Tampa/St Pete area. Tampa gets a good breeze, never experienced those dog days in Tampa. I’ve been in Florida since 82. To this day I just never get used to August-September, it’s just brutal.

I have my fav restaurants all over the state. Believe it or not Pensacola has the best Sushi and prime rib in the state. NAS Pensacola at one time was a thriving navy town, budget cuts in the 80’s and 90’s took it’s toll but it’s still hanging in there. Yamato’s on Navy Blvd just north of the base has the best sushi. Close to yamato’s was a Filipino place called the Loompia House, filipino style egg rolls, longer and thinner. McGuires downtown has the best prime rib, cooked slow like 18 hours. They also have a tradition of writing your name on a dollar bill and stapling them to the ceiling. Like I said I’ve probably been to every little shit kickin’town in the state. When they built the hockey arena in Tampa, they bought out a small family country/soul food place. Excellent food. My first experience eating fried catfish and grits for breakfast.

It's not who UM lost, it's who they return in comparison to others.  Other teams lost key players as well.  Look how much Clemsn & OSU lost.  Most of UM's key losses are on defense.  Brown has been a top 3 total defense every year at UM so it's safe to assume the defense will be fine over the course of the season.  That's no guarantee in any given game (see OSU & FLA), but it's a good bet they'll be one of the top units in the country overall.  They bring back a senior QB going into his second year in the program who had a good season last year.  They have a veteran o-line and lots of talent at WR.  The major question mark offensively is at RB.  That doesn't mean they're gonna steamroll their way to a NC.  It just means they are in the second group of teams after Bama, Clemson, & UGA who have a decent shot at the playoff.  There isn't much difference between OSU, Okla, & UM's odds.  These teams are talented, return a lot of good components, but have a few question marks.

Interesting article on the impending sand shortage. I heard something similar from a concrete contractor in the Middle East around 2006. Said they can't use any of the sand out there for all the construction going on, because it's too fine.  So, in effect, he was literally selling sand to the Saudis. Pretty funny, because it sounds like selling ice to Eskimos.

In my opinion, Michigan being ranked so high would make sense if the defense was the unit with the returning starters.  Outside of the last two games they were very good.  Their offense is mostly returning but wasn’t that good last season.  They bombed on bad teams but were largely ineffective against teams with a pulse.  Pundits are putting a ton of faith that Harbaugh will delegate authority to Gattis and that it will transform them.  I don’t see it happening.  They might get better on offense but I think that defense will take a step back and they’ll be a good team but in the 9-10 win range.
