Congrats! That City not only needed that Championship, but deserved it, they are still healing from what Kroenke did.  Blues fans have been loyal so forever.  You guys still have and support Cardinal baseball, they draw #1 in attendance in MLB.  Championships seem to come in cycles these days, maybe the Blues will make a mini run?

I am from the Toledo area. I don't cheer for either team, and I don't root against them either. In fact, I admire the Cardinals as an organization. They are the opposite of the old factory of sadness. I wanted the Blues to win to help the city.

I’m surprised Franklin is ranked the top coach in the B1G, but not more surprised than the PSU fan base since their recruiting class is falling apart. Besides, isn’t Ferentz supposed to be at the top of that list?

HS
BucksHave7's picture

Its CBS trolling the B10.  Franklin is arguably the last coach Id ever want at my team.

-James Franklin has one of THE worst records vs the AP top 25 of ALL active coaches.

-James Franklin is 1-7 vs ranked road teams at PSU (only NWestern).

-James Franklin is 3-11 vs TTUN/MSU/tOSU.

-James Franklin is ranked #1 by his peers as the MOST OVERRATED Coach.

Ferentz is perennial Coach of the Year, which for some reason seems to have nothing to do with being the best coach.

HS

Kirk Ferentz is a roller coaster in reverse: when Iowa is supposed to be good, they stumble and when they’re supposed to be bad, they overachieve. That sets him up for winning COY in the years the Hawkeyes surprise people.

Your trolling article more than made up for your late Skully yesterday. Well done. Having endured the Cooper years, to go 15-1 has been great. But there is more work to be done. Each year I say the same thing, “not this year”. This year would be extra special to win because I don’t think either team has won 8 in a row. BTW, what’s the back story with Arby’s?

When I was watching the Blues celebrate after winning the cup and the on the screen popped up Brad Marchand with tears in his eyes, I smiled. Then I realized that I hate that rat bastard so much that my natural instinct is to take joy in his pain. I feel complete indifference towards the Blues, but I hate the Bruins. So that was fun to watch last night.

Subjective lists are fun. And for the first time in a while I completely agree with ESPN. I think the Buckeyes are going to be very good for the foreseeable future. But I don't really have any evidence to back that up.

As a Blackhawks fan I certainly have no love for the Blues, but I cannot root for the Bruins in any way shape or form. Ergo, congratulations St. Louis Blues on beating that Boston team. Now it would be nice if the Cardinals would play a bit better and catch the Cubs and make them go away.

The Blackhawks and the Redwings had a decent rivalry going there for a while. Which means that a bunch of jerkoffs in my area started cheering for the Blackhawks just to be different. For that reason I've always disliked them. And I used to really like the Cubs. I went to a game there in 2010 and loved it. I actually said out loud back then "The Cubs can be my national league team since there is no way they ever play the Indians in the world series". So suffice to say they are not my national league team anymore. Then all the bandwagon jumpers in 2016 just bugged the hell out of me. All the sudden people were claiming to be lifelong Cubs fans.

HS
blueblazer22's picture

MB, Cubs fans are about the worst (other than Boston fans probably). There are so many “Cubs” fans who simply enjoy Wrigley Field and that there are games in the afternoon to go to while blowing off work. The bandwagon for the Cubs is overwhelming and long has been.

Back in the late 70’s and early 80’s the White Sox were the favorite team in Chicago. Then Reinsdorf and Einhorn decided that putting the Sox on essentially PPV by going to the early cable channel made them harder to watch and allowed WGN to pick up the Cubs and turn into the superstation, thereby making the Cubs “America’s Team” since everyone could watch them. The bandwagon truly began there but has snowballed since.

HS
KCAlum's picture

I LOVE that someone remembers the idiotic Reinsdorf decision to move the White Sox games to PPV, thereby relegating them to second team status, now for at least 30 years, and for the forseeable future.  As a lad just discovering the joys of out of town games on cable TV, I was outraged and fearful that Reinsdorf's move would lead to other teams moving to the PPV model.  It is great to see that it was the exact wrong decision.  In 1980, both the Cubs and the Braves were lowly unloved franchises, and due to their being broadcast early in the history of cable on Basic cable, they have reaped rewards for now  over 30 years and into the future.

HS
MichiBuck12's picture

There are so many “Cubs” fans who simply enjoy Wrigley Field and that there are games in the afternoon to go to while blowing off work.

This is totally valid, and the exact reason I loved my experience back in the day. And to be fair, everyone I encountered in and around the game were fantastic. I was in Cleveland for games 6 and 7 of the World Series in 2016 and all the Cubs fans that came out were great there as well. It was all the people that had never said a word about the Cubs in their lives that were all the sudden huge Cubs fans that bugged the shit out of me. I got a ton of messages from people I went to high school with bragging about "their" cubbies. I know I hadn't seen these people in almost a decade but I remember they were all Tigers fans back then. Even my best friend used the "my Cubbies" line a few times and he mocked me on multiple occasions for having a Cubs shirt that I used to own. And now all their Cubs gear is stuffed in a closet next to their Tom Brady and Steph Curry jerseys.

HS
stxbuck's picture

The hate White Sox fans have for Cubs fans is awesome. I remember Anthony Bourdain talking to a Sox fan in one of his shows on Chicago and he asked "What's a good day for a Sox fan"?, and the guy replied "Win the World Series and see the Cubs die in a team bus crash!".

As a Reds fan I hate both the Cardinals and the Cubs, but I will admit that St. Louis fans are good baseball people.

HS

My sentiments, exactly. I'm a Wings fan at heart, but have had a soft spot for the Bruins since I was a kid, Bobby Orr and all that. That is until this year and my realization what a complete tool Marchand is. I couldn't be happier to see the Bruins lose so poorly in front of their fans.

"That guy's got ability from the waist down and he'll use it."

HS
MichiBuck12's picture

I'm a Wings fan as well. I like Bobby Orr, but I have always hated Boston. Their fans are the worst. As far as shitty fans go, they're right up there with Philadelphia. Which makes it no surprise that they really like Marchand and his constant cheap shots. Marchand actually makes Tom Wilson look like a clean player.

The history of the Fender Stratocaster is a fun read. I am not versed in guitars enough to understand all of the little nuances some of the guys mention, but reading about how the guitar was developed and how many different guys had input into specific areas is cool to hear about. I have a Strat, but have never played it since it is autographed-looks great on a wall regardless.

I am fine with JimBaugh and Franklin staying around as long as they want to. Cannot stand either of them, but as the numbers show they are both paper tigers who haven't won anything of consequence.

The fact that ESPN lists Luke Farrel as one of Justin Fields’ top weapons for this year shows exactly why their network is slowly but surely failing.

HS
NavyBuckeye91's picture

Not sure I follow. He was the #2 TE last year and caught more passes for more yards and more TDs than the #1. Of the returning receivers from last season, Farrel had the third most receiving yards. With Coach Day installing his own offense this year, I wouldn't be surprised at all to see Farrel's number jump.

So, live. Live. Fight like hell. And when you get too tired to fight then lay down and rest and let somebody else fight for you. "

HS
BuckeyeBen7.7's picture

My reasoning is that unless Day makes a change, the TE is not a major part of the offense. Guys like Mack, Victor, and Olave could reasonably be expected to put up much better numbers. The local team simply doesn’t use the TE as a consistent receiver.

Also, if any TE is going to break out as a receiver, I believe it will be Ruckert rather than Farrel.

5) CBS Sports. We all saw where Franklin and Harbaugh were placed on their list.

I'm going to go ahead and strongly disagree that Luke Fickell inherited a "good situation" in 2011.

Uh, yeah, inheriting a true freshmen, Joe Bauserman, with Jim Bollman as your OC is surefire fail. Not to mention your starting RB and best WR suspended.

HS
PRO8's picture

Just being tagged as interim head coach tells you the situation was not good to begin with and when you investigate the situation ( which this journalist was negligent in doing) the truth of that would be self evident but when your sloppy at what you do you get crappy journalism.

HS
RocknRollover's picture

Yeah, comparing Fickell's situation to Day's is like comparing night and day (pun intended).  There was a huge black eye on the program at the time from tattoo-gate, and losing basically our entire offensive production (Pryor, Posey, Sanzenbacher, Herron) did not help at all.  If not for Braxton Miller, we probably would have lost almost every single one of our games that year.

HS
JJBleedsScarletandGray's picture

I'm feel really confident about Coach Day. When I start thinking about why, I am reminded that Urban Meyer recommended him. Urban Meyer knows a thing or two about good coaches. I also think that Urban was serious when he said he was only going to leave Ohio State only when he knew he had a great replacement. I also believe Ryan Day would have accepted a head coaching Job somewhere else if not offered the Ohio State job. So with all that, I believe we got a good one and he only needs a little time to prove it.

Urban Meyer Quote:

"And I hired Ryan Day because I thought he was a very good coach. I knew he was. He was with me before. What I found out was that he’s far past those thoughts. He’s elite. And I think in trying to build the most comprehensive premier program in America, you also want to hand it off to someone at some point so it can get even stronger. And my witnessing of the work Ryan has done and made this decision, not as difficult as I thought, because I know the infrastructure, like Gene talked about, is going to be secure with Coach Marotti and the rest of the staff. I think it’s very healthy. We recruited very well."

I am going to have to agree with a bit on the assessment of Dobbins

He did have 3 runs over 40 yards as a Freshman, but only 1 of them more than 55 yards and was often caught from behind on long runs. Had a bunch of runs that year between 25-35 yards but far less so in 2018

He had only 1 run over 35 yards last year and in many games in both years, his longest run was less than 15 yards.

He has great vision, some power, good speed but not elite.

The one thing I will disagree with is lack of shiftiness, he most definitely has that attribute. But in terms of raw breakaway speed, he is just average.
