I have no idea how those two things are related.
Yeah, what? Nobody's amazed that he managed to put one foot in front of the other really fast for 85 yards. It's the fact that he did it against Bama in the national semifinal to effectively put the game away.
Well, except that the game wasn't put away until Evan Spencer recovered the onside kick... and even then the game wasn't put away until the Tyvis Powell interception... but I get your point.
Zeke put the game away, but Urban opened the door by calling a passing play for some absolutely idiotic reason.
Oh, and not just a passing play, but a low-percentage passing play.
Urban addressed why he passed, he wanted to win the game not play to lose. I'd have to agree with coach, when you have the champ up against the ropes you go for the knockout. We had hit on that play multiple times against Wisconsin and bama, and Alabama knows the conventional strategy is to run the ball and milk the clock. Bama still had 2 timeouts and would have had over a minute left regardless if we pass or run. It was a good call and if it had been a touchdown nobody would have been questioning it.
Wait you mean to tell me that urban played the game not to lose?
That’s some killer insight.
It was a terrible call and was the only reason Bama even had time for a Hail-Mary at the end. PS...not my downvote.
PS...not my downvote.
Do you, and others that mention not downvoting, realize that the person only sees net votes? So, if they are net positive, it’s not even worth mentioning. They don’t know that they have a downvote, and I never worry about a single or double downvote, anyway, because it often times was done on accident. And even if it weren’t, you’re only giving the downvoter the satisfaction that they know that they’ve affected you enough to comment. Just don’t talk about it.
I still think it’s hilarious how much people care about their votes one way or another here
The DV comment was just an attempt to prevent this thread from getting DVd into oblivion. There was a feeling that this thread is so gloriously stupid, it needed to last.

No, the downvote comment was one commenter informing another that he had a downvote on his comment (not the original post), and explaining that he was not the one that provided the downvote.
We must be talking about different comments then. I was talking about the first time downvotes were mentioned on this thread.
This explanation of an explanation has provided me with some Zen-like clarity. You sir, are an artist. ;)
Thanks Poppy. Not my DV.
Nothing cleanses the soul like a no call pass interference.
I'd have to disagree for a couple of reasons. Number 1 being our defense was playing well and 30-40 extra seconds is worth the risk of potentially being up by 14 or at least getting a first down and winning the game right there. Number 2 they are going to be prepared for the run and chances are one of our receivers is going to have single coverage. Earlier in the game Devin Smith was wide open in the end zone for a touchdown, so why not go for it again?
Side note it was kind of similar circumstances to the sugar bowl against Arkansas, except we puckered our butt holes and tried to milk the clock and almost gave the game away. Both strategies worked out thankfully.
I don't care that he addressed it. It was still dumb. Alabama got the ball back with 1:30 to go instead of 0:51 to go. For the record, they were at their own 33 yard line with 35 seconds left -- when the game should have been over. That ending was far closer than it should have been.
Agree with MJ and Rosy. I was livid when this happened. It gave Bama another 40 sec.
You guys are amazing second guessing the biggest win since 2003.
Enjoy the win, they played to win and they did. Did you second guess the plays that were much more aggressive early on?
And how did those run plays work out in the first quarter?
stop just stop.
Urban and Herman are much better play callers than you! Osu won and it was glorious.
Urban and Herman are much better play callers than you!
(Eye roll) Shut up ...
I find it odd that people want more downfield throws to the TE at the expense of WR targets, as opposed to TEs blocking to perfection in the run game like Nick Vannett did on Zeke's run........
Well they’re wildly assuming that on a called run play, there won’t be any passing to the TEs, leaving them free to block to perfection.
Most Bama fans I have talked to say they knew after that run, it was over.
Fields of Dreams
But it could be related to a wolf that eats PB&Js.
Nope. Our defense was nowhere near 2014 Alabama last year, and regular season games do not compare to playoffs.

Are you kidding, that's how classic threads start.
Zeke's 85 yard dagger through the heart of Alabama put us through to the national championship game. All those big plays our D gave up last year didn't mean a hill of beans (other than aggravation to us). I don't know why any of the plays given up by the defense last year would tarnish what will forever be one of my favorite moments in college football history.....
To me, this OP makes all your posts not so awesome. WTF are you talking about?
No. That is all.
Nothing can ever take away from the greatness of Zeke’s run. I can watch him blow past Bama’s Defense like they were standing still a million times and still get the chills.

If there was a jail for bad takes, we'd have to build a new wing just for the offseason.
But we could name it after Buckeye Bob.
I'm not sure why i typed Bob. I meant Jack. I never even looked back at this post until now, so I couldn't change it.
Bob on your mind. Bob thinks this has lost its muster, too, since it has nothing to do with defense.

LOL. I upvoted to cancel a DV;
Man, the DVs are flooding. 4 straight. People just can’t appreciate the chance at a classic thread around here.
Just logged in to get it back to -2 (19 up, 21 down). We have to keep this baby going!

You need to be humble or you will get humbled. - Jocko Willink
Funny story I’ve told on here once before but this thread seems as good as any to tell it again.
I’m at a distributor event (work thing) in Nashville and the local distributor is hosting a little party at their place in the evening. I’m there with a co-worker and tell him that this guy looks familiar. I finally spot from where, in my mind. I go up to the guy and ask him if he went to Ohio St. He says no but his son did. Then I say, this may sound funny, but we’re you at the 2015 Sugar Bowl? He starts laughing and says something like, yeah everybody saw me on TV. He was the guy at the 0:27 mark, fingers in the air, high fiving his son.
The co-worker I was with was amazed. Recognized the damn guy from a video clip ... that I’ve probably seen 100 times.
From the turn up field, to the TD, to the stunned look of the fans, to Saban pacing, to our cheering fans, I could watch this clip on a loop and not get tired of it.
Every time I see that...
I got jailed one time for posting a Hall of Fame posters of stupidity thread. But man, if ever there was a post that qualified.......

You don't know what you have until it's gone .... for example, toilet paper.
Man, it's just too easy. It's low hanging fruit. I'm gonna mosey on down the road. Vaya con carne, amigos.
The off-season is not a helluva drug.
That's a Buckeye touchdown!
Are...are you high?
That's like saying "well we gave up a lot of big passing touchdowns last year. Michael Thomas' catch from Evan Spencer against Bama really doesn't mean much anymore. Also Holy Buckeye is meh now too."
To give anything less than your best is to sacrifice the gift.
If this post gets nuked, please start that one. It’s just the sort of thing we need to spice up the off-season!
Huh? Not even close to being comparable. I think someone has taken too many hits to the ‘ol cranium.
You bring shame to your family.
Some things only get better with age, Zeke's run is one of them.
No. And beyond no, it doesn't lose any luster if JK Dobbins breaks one off for 92 against Bama in the semis this year and tears one for 95 against Clemson a week later.
It is, was, and always will be a great moment in Ohio State Football lore.
I saw a kid playing with legos and it kid of took the luster off of the great pyramids of Giza for me
Kids playing with legos is a pretty apt description of the defensive scheming last season.
I've seen Total Recall like 3x so the Mars Rover really just doesn't move my needle at all
Agreed. First time I saw a bird flying I realized that Pterodactyl's and dinosaurs were just not that impressive.
Earle’s target practice
Just saw a pair of 4 foot tall Sand Hill Cranes in our front yard. Those things look pre-historic to me.
Yes but when you can make a paper airplane that flies, sandhill cranes lose all of their luster.
Running through and over a Saban Alabama team will never lose its luster. NEVER.
The offseason is the longest season.
I went on a date with Scarlett Johansson and she told me she had previously dated other men. I looked her in the eyes as a single tear rolled down onto my chicken paprikash and told her our date no longer had any meaning.
This is definitely where I parked my car.
I just found out other teams win national championships in the years when OSU doesn't, and it kinda ruins every OSU championship for me
I hate to ruin your day even more but Coach Meyer also won championships at Florida. Really makes the one he won here lose its luster.
Now you’ve got me thinking about how those out of state kids come to OSU and win games. Really makes those instate kids lose their luster some
You've got to kick at the darkness till it bleeds daylight.
Dude posts once a month and this is his choice...
That Alabama defense was a lot better than last year's Buckeye defense. Ergo, Zeke's run is a much bigger deal.
2014 Alabama didn't give up big plays until they played Zeke and the Buckeyes.

Huh?? Zeke's was against Bama in the playoffs and basically secured victory. Nothing in the world will make that run lose it's luster.

To answer the OP's question, the short answer is . . . no. The long answer is . . . no.
The 85 yard answer is...... NO!!!

How long have you been waiting to post this?
You all think this Zeke run is the greatest thing since sliced bread. No wonder the OP got downvoted with all the group think around here. Bunch of blind homers!
You all think this Zeke run is the greatest thing since sliced bread.
It is probably in the top two greatest Ohio State football plays of my life time, for me! This play and when Maurice Clarett stripped the ball from the U of Miami defender and recovered it on the sideline! I am sure someone else will have a play that they think is better, but since 1983 this is what I consider two of the greatest plays in that span of Buckeye history! Each play led to a National Championship!
Was that defender Sean Taylor?
My comment was a joke, but yes, it was Sean Taylor that he stripped.
Maybe the OP would like to comment ...
I would like to make a motion that the OP (HayesTresselMeyer) immediately start an AMA thread so we can get some more insight into this. All in favor?
We never got our BuckeyeJack and Buck68 dual AMA. Or was it someone other than 68? I forget. Either way, we got jipped.
Jack's flourishing legal career derailed his AMA but there's still hope that the mushrooms wear off soon enough to still have 68's Knar

Yep. I’m agreeing with the OP.

....makes it less exciting.
Can you make something less?
Making by definition is addition. Adding less would require negative reality.
Uh, not a thread about Michigan.
Just read back through all this. Good stuff, however HAYESTRESSELMEYER, the OP, has not commented 1 time since he dropped the original post. Not once. Seems odd to me but wtf do I know. #answersomemail?
Sadly, none of the players who ran off big plays against the Buckeyes last year were doing it against a good defense.
I’m sorry this is the stupidest post I’ve seen on here and I’ve been a member for a decade.
You're dumb. Really. Dumb.
Man, rough crowd.
I completely agree. Also, Woody was overrated, JT was short, and the 2002 Championship should have an asterisk because of the pass interference call.
Seeing App State beat Michigan really made our wins against them lose their luster. Also, seeing Braxton throw really made wondering if he would throw lose its luster.
How does a run from the 2014 national championship run have anything to do with a bad defense from 2018?
Class of 2010.
I do not, in any way, shape, or form, understand how these things are related... I feel the following is more relevant to the forum post at hand:
Urban Meyer left an incredible legacy. 12/4/18 Ryan Day begins his.
Have to watch it again......great run that broke their back.....the official did pretty well running along the sidelines too ;)
Yeah, I feel ya! I hated watching Maryland's RB break off the big one against the #1 Rank Team on it's way to winning the 1st Ever CFP Championship.....all while having to do it with a 3rd String QB!!
Is a bear Catholic if the Pope shits in the woods? That is literally how dumb your post sounds.
"Joey, you like movies about gladiators"?
Too much credit. Your statement made me let loose a sensible chuckle. The OP just had me scratching my head in bewilderment and pity.
If the bear knows the Pope, he's not Catholic, he's Jesuit.
(Catholic joke for all you non-catholics)
This would be like actually hooking up with your dream girl and the hook up being the best you’ve ever had. Then as you have average hook-ups with average chicks, it makes the hook-up with your dream girl less amazing and memorable.
Wrong. Just..... wrong.

This is like saying that the OP's post has made great posts of the past lose their luster.
With Bama's continued success, that play GROWS in stature.
Maybe OP thinks the play was just a mirage...
APB out for HayesTresselMeyer. He's MIA. Maybe he died of embarassment for this thread.
Well I'd like to thank him for giving me an excuse to look at Scarlett Johansson gifs. I didn't know my day needed this.
You've dropped about three or so new (to me anyway) ScarJo gifs here, Frim.
For that I am thankful.
Your signature will be publicly displayed at the end of your comments.
I've tried to not comment on this topic for 2 weeks now.
The answer is No. That is all.
Yeah, but you provided a bump.
Dammit! Who bumped the Zeke’s 85 yard run against Bama has been watered down thread again?
I think the OP quit after this one. Hasn’t posted since. Seeing how others are posting all these lackluster threads with no outlandish hot takes has really watered down this thread for me.
