Yeah like many things today in society, I could care less about rankings and star ratings. Get off my lawn...

I could care less about rankings and star ratings.

So you do care??

If you don't care, it would be, "I couldn't care less"

It's just a number [that correlates with success].  FTFY

Jaxon Smith-Njigba was 223 in the previous rankings. Rivals for some reason doesn’t show his climb on the rankings.

The class is looking good regardless of ranks, and Day and company are headed in the right direction

A lot of the numbers don't match between your list and paragraphs by the way

The following is where all of those commits and targets are rated overall within the class by 247Sports Composite.

Sav'ell Smalls: No. 4

Julian Fleming: No. 6

Paris Johnson Jr.: No. 7

Kelee Ringo: No. 9

Elias Ricks: No. 15

Kendall Milton: No. 21

Bijan Robinson: No. 25

Clark Phillips: No. 46

Jack Miller: No. 59

Lathan Ransom: No. 64

Gee Scott Jr.: No. 77

Jaxon Smith-Njigba: No. 157

I think these may be the old 247 Composite rankings. The new 247 Composite rankings for those players are as follows:

  • Sav'ell Smalls: No. 4
  • Julian Fleming: No. 5
  • Paris Johnson Jr.: No. 8
  • Kelee Ringo: No. 9
  • Elias Ricks: No. 16
  • Kendall Milton: No. 21
  • Bijan Robinson: No. 22
  • Clark Phillips: No. 47
  • Gee Scott Jr.: No. 68
  • Jack Miller: No. 70
  • Lathan Ransom: No. 72
  • Jaxon Smith-Njigba: No. 85

Ah, you're right. Thank you for the heads up.

I have always said I look at who offers a player over a recruiting service. That's why so many 3 stars shine because coach's see the talent that the services don't. Urban was asked about 3 years ago if OSU followed recruiting sites and he said a little but they are getting better.

Yea I personally care more if Saban wants a guy than if the staff writer at Rivals thinks he's good.

HS

I don't think it's either/or.  I'm sure these websites take into consideration offer lists for their rankings.  I'm sure these teams use 247 to find players/watch tape.

HS

It's definitely *not* an either/or. The recruiting sites themselves have openly admitted that they consider the list of offers in their rankings, particularly if the offer list is clearly out of line with their evaluation.

Most notably, in a couple infamous fake recruits the past few years, the way these guys got star rankings is because the pranksters put together a nice fake offer list that drew eyeballs and got star rankings purely based on the strength of having 'offers' from a solid list of schools.

Has the ship sailed on Smalls?

Do you have anything to back that up with it? Not saying we will get him and there has been little news about him when it deals with the Buckeyes, but I haven't heard that we are clearly out of the running for him either. You would think Gee would be in his ear.

Gee Scott has just looked so much more mature than the DBs guarding him in every clip I've seen.

Yup, but he better get that stare-down crap out of his system before he gets to campus.  Refs haven't been liking that lately.

Heck, remember this?

Luke Wypler not even in the top 100 is disrespectful.

It's a beautiful day in Columbus, Ohio... and TTUN still sucks.

The price of committing early.

Biggest thing to remember is a lot of these recruiting sites raise or lower the recruit in its rankings depending upon whether or not the recruit attends the sites' sponsored camps.

HS
analyticalguy's picture

Sounds like a valid criteria to me.

HS
AZ Buckeye13's picture

Maybe, but some sites penalize players who don’t attend their particular camps.

Everyone loves the stars, particularly in the rankings. Just don't get too involved with it that you're over the moon.

Maybe it's just me but the Rivals website looks like complete garbage compared to 247 to me...

What's the deal with Wypler? How can the rankings be so drastically different on a kid between two places?
