Congratulations to the Bucks for the win, and the fortitude.

Is Magno a senior?  I expect we've seen the last of him this season.

It's not clear how high a draft prospect he would be.  Be great to get him back next year.

My son is a housemate of Magno’s. If he gets drafted (which is likely), he’s gone. As close to 100% as you can get.

I love the kid - but he has 2 pitches.   He is not making a MLB roster with 2 pitches....

HS
KBonay's picture

If he's coming out of the pen, like he's being used now, he's fine with 2 pitches.  It's only rotation guys they said that need a solid 3rd pitch.

HS

that is why a lot of pitchers start in the minors, so they can learn another pitch or two.

Actually he said he is not making an MLB roster with only 2 pitches. Obviously Mariano is the extreme example, but the guy basically made the HOF with ONE dominating pitch...let alone simply making a roster. Point being, you can make an MLB roster with just 2 pitches. Success is a different story.

Even if hes drafted in the 25th round and would go to "A" ball? Doubt it

HS
Buck95's picture

Yes, even if he’s drafted in the 25th round and goes to ‘A’ ball. Almost all players start in the minors and work their way up. A lefty that can throw low to mid 90’s is a coveted commodity. From what my son has told me, his “major” is professional baseball. Drafted = gone. Almost a guaranteed lock.

I went to the game yesterday. Magno  was heroic - no way he thought he was going that many innings, and he kept the heat coming.

Hangover game for sure.  Lots of early mistakes.  In the field and on the base-path.  Hung in there and then got to Magno-Time.  What an outing for that kid.

Exciting finish.

Need to clean-up the errors!  Made this game very tough for themselves and maybe know when to throw to the cut-off.

Clean up the number of walks as well but they never stopped fighting. Gritty team. Like the toughness.

No harm done! Great recap -- GO BUCKS!!!

All good Kevin.  I knew his pitch count, but didn't even realize that he went 7.1 innings until I read you post.  Thankfully, he was super-efficient.  I don't think he could have gone one more inning.

Long way to go, but a great, gutsy win in the tourney. And is it just me, or does Vanderbilt really have one of the coolest stadiums in baseball? I like that place.

What channel tomorrow at 3?

HS

Per OSU’s athletic site, today’s game will be streamed on ESPN3 and can be heard on the radio on AM 1460 ESPN. I’m assuming soph lefty Griffan Smith (7-4, 4.24, 89 Ks in 91.1 innings) will get the start and that Indiana State will counter with senior RHP Tyler Whitbread (8-2, 2.99, 60 Ks in 78.1 innings), who did not pitch in ISU’s first two games.

I know that technically Magno was a relief pitcher, but his numbers are starter worthy in this game. 7.1 innings, 1 earned run, 12 strikeouts, holy cow!

Yep, he's Magno-ficent.

Ohio State...will take on the loser of Saturday's matchup between Vanderbilt and Indiana State in an elimination game on Sunday at 3 p.m.

Vandy won 8-5, as each team scored 4 runs in the 9th inning. So the Buckeyes face Indiana State's Sycamores on Sunday.

Go Buckeyes!

Our honor defend, so we'll fight to the end !

HS
BuckeyeBig2012's picture

That was some pretty bad baseball, but I guess that's to be expected when two teams that were the 5th seed in their respective conference tournaments got hot and ran the table. Here's to something better against the Sycamores. Go Bucks!

It says a lot about Ohio State's grit, determination and resilience in that they did just about everything they could to blow the game on defense but didn’t quit. Besides scoring nine runs, the Buckeyes left 15 runners on base. McNeese tried to reciprocate Ohio State’s generosity—they walked 14 Buckeye batters, 11 between OSU’s first five batters, including Canzone and Pohl three times each. Canzone was 1-4 plus three BB and scored three times.
