Hate, hate, hate Friday nite games. Did I mention I hate Friday nite games. Why would Gene agree to such a thing... to the detriment of Ohio scholastic football?

It was part of the TV deal. Smith is well aware of the impact and said OSU would not host a Friday night game. Bottom line is FS1 and ESPN2 need inventory, although I suspect this game follow a MLB playoff game. Fox has WWE Smackdown at the same time. Don't revel in the $54M check without realizing you give up some of your freedom to the networks.

Winning is a habit. Unfortunately, so is losing.

Somewhat off-topic, but the business of major college football has maneuvered bye weeks into Friday night football opportunities.

Even if it affords the Buckeyes an extra day to prepare to host the Badgers, I'm really not liking that Northwestern slot.

Good mix of fun and high stakes throughout, nice snapshot of the leadups to each contest...they'll be here before we know it.

Fickell will have UC ready, so the Buckeyes had better be focused.

The Friday night game feels like a decision by the one who approved Leaders and Legends.

The gauntlet to end the regular season will be tough. Winning those 2 games and the BIG Championship will be quite the accomplishment.

If it is taken a step further, playoff win and a natty, this will possibly be the best 5 game stretch in the history of OSU football

HS

Seems as this is the case most years for Buckeye Football.  Not sure how the scheduling is done in the Big Ten, but the last 2-3 weeks usually seem to be more challenging than for other.

... and fair or not, that’s the standard Day will be judged up against.

Yep, that's right. By the way, "fair" doesn't play into it anymore now that coaches are being paid multiple millions per season to coach teens. Ryan Day, never having led his own program on any level, makes close to five million per at OSU... win lots of games and B1G titles, at minimum, or it's time to go. Like the coaching salaries, expectations have gone through the roof, and that's what's fair.

quoted from OZone article, excerpt from QB edition of The Room, Ohio State’s new passing game coordinator/quarterbacks coach Mike Yurcich talks about his approach to coaching his players.

Rather than a one-size-fits-all approach, Yurcich listens to his players to get a feel for how they learn and then he tailors his teaching to their needs.

There are, of course, still things that every quarterback needs to get done in the same manner, and Yurcich holds his players to a very high standard.

Compare/contrast Coach Yurcich's approach with the "Storyline" perspective Dan discusses in his article here.  IMO these two articles offer eye-opening insight into the minds of coaches/teachers/mentors ... compared to fans.  This is not to exclude anyone from either role or perspective - but to acknowledge the great and significant differences that are both doors opening to learn... and barriers to effective communication and thus... 'development'.

====IMO, another 'early indicator' [c/f to the marketing term 'early adapter'] that the "fundamentals" for learning and developing on Coach Day's staff, are moving toward situational leadership and dynamic factors and tactically-viewed initiative and adaptation... and away from the traditional 'fixed fortifications' of mantra frameworks; and, the "quantative easing" of 'my preferences' and 'more or less' solutions framed by zero-sum thinking.

Each season is 'naturally' a wonder and wealth of opportunities... which the natural man reduces and constrains by his egotisical 'preferences'.  Whosoever sees and tries to 'break that mold' of 'the man in my mirror'... demonstrates the 'wonderful', selfless, team part... of the fearful, 'better than you' man.

That UC game will be interesting.  As long as OSU doesn't f around too much, they should be able to win it without too much trouble...but expect UC's best shot with our former alums that would love to win in their return here.

Nebraska still scares me the most, followed by NW.  TTUN could easily enter that fray if they turn out to not be as overhyped as I think they are.

The two games that can really bite us are the northwestern and nebraska games. They have motivation from last year and appear to be up and coming. As for Penn St, If the QB fails to perform (won't have to worry about McSorley anymore), that shouldn't be as big a game as the last couple years.

The only other thing is that shitigan will again come up withg some type of B/S saying something about mattison, only to be caught with their pants down!! Go BUCKEYES!!

so sorry, Navybucknut... this 'just happened' to come to me as i read your first sentence.  Obviously, I'm so low, i must be hi on depressant drugs.

"the two games that can really bite us...?"

1-the next game.

2-the game that is 'over' that we see 'under'... every rock of envy, jealously, anger...and so froth.

===>I mean... every game in every game wherever, whenever, however we doo-be-doo about #1 & #2... so to speak.

GO BUCKS.

I agree.  Personally, I think Nebraska is the most likely candidate for the trap game.

Big Ten West: Check

Away Game: Check

Mediocre but dangerous opponent: Check

I just don't think Northwestern is as dangerous as Nebraska.  Or at least as dangerous as Nebraska could be.

This is a great offseason article - nice way to take us on a walk thru the 2019 season.

If Nebraska starts the season strong, this might not even qualify as a “trap game” for Ohio State, but simply a matchup of two of the Big Ten’s best teams. That could be a good thing for the

If there was a division tailor made for a turnaround, it is the B1G West.  Scott Frost is going to take Paul Chryst's personal playground away from him - by force.

While their OOC schedule may not be sexy, the Buckeyes' conference slate is not doing them ANY favors!

You forgot to mention the impending rain storm for the MSU game.

HS

Good news is the game is on October 5th, which is a far cry from the freezing temps and torrential rain/wind storms that they’ve had to deal with in the past.

This is definitely where I parked my car.

Except this time we have Ryan Day calling plays instead of Ed Warinner.

HS
brothadudeguy's picture

I understand the concerns for the Nebraska game. They should be improved and we have a history of sleep walking into big ten west road games. Except this isnt the same team or staff. Our defense should be improved as well which is the reason for the Iowa and Purdue games. Plus Nebraska is extremely less talented compared to the Buckeyes according to recruiting. We should be able to take care of business.

Cincinnati game is going to be close I think. Coach Fickell will have his guys ready, not to mention his guys are most likely Ohio kids that want to have a big game in the horseshoe and maybe even want to show Ohio State what they missed out on. That 2014 game was pretty close, I expect this one to be closer but I hope I am wrong.

I also was very concerned about PSu, TTUN back to back but we have played MSU and TTUN back to back before and been fine. If we get through this schedule with 0 or 1 (non embarrassing) loss and a BIG championship there is now way we cant make the playoffs.

I think Coach Day is hungry, this team is going to be hungry, I am excited for what I expect to be an excellent season.

Go Bucks!

Seems like FAU could start a potential matchup problem at QB.

In old Ohio there's a team that's known throughout the land...

HS

But seriously, what's not to love about this schedule? This is not a cupcake schedule, but the sequencing and the home/away implications are tilted to our favor. The only thing left is to kick ass and bring the holy hush to our critics and doubters.

Friday games are stupid.

HS

Hard to imagine not taking a step back after a coach like urban leaves, but I think we’ll see in day a lot of what we saw out of younger urban...that ruthlessness and desire to make some examples out of opponents as he makes his name as a HC. I think it’s natural for TTUN fans to feel confident this season, but urban wasn’t pulling the strings to hang those 62pts...Ryan day was.

You're too stupid to have a good time. -Dalton
