Evidently there is someone willing to take him up on it.  Too bad the kid isn't an NFL WR.

Thank goodness. After watching that kid run, i would be very worried for Ginn. Dude ran a 9.98 in the 100. Holy. Shit.

HS
RunEddieRun1983's picture

Anyone takes that bet they're going to lose. Ginn, even as long as he's been around, is greased lightning.

Would like to see Ginn vs. Joey Galloway...

Urban Meyer left an incredible legacy. 12/4/18 Ryan Day begins his.

HS

I think Joey gives him a run.

HS

Everything I've heard from Galloway and his contemporaries is that he still has the jet fuel!

Yeh didn't Joey recently say, when asked, he thinks he could still do a sub-4.40?

HS

Thinking the same thing but against Parris Campbell.

Old guard against the new guard and a Buckeye wins either way.

i think i could take Sr for $10K...

Sr looks like he lost a fair bit of weight, good for him!  Likely good for his health!!

Beat everyone, in every sport, all the time!!!

HS

Not that I'm advocating Buckeye on Buckeye crime, but if I'm Parris Campbell, I'm taking that bet.

HS

Wait!  Ginn didnt run at the Combine.  He was injured.

The strong will stand, the weak will fall by the wayside.  100% and then some!

HS
Kevin Harrish's picture

You're right, you're right. That 4.37 was at pro day.

buckslan's picture

Depends on what the race format is. If it's a 40 yard sprint, Ginn probably loses. If it's a 100 yard sprint or who clocks in at the fastest top speed, he'd probably win.

HS
CincyBuck's picture

Exactly.  I suspect there are at least a handful of NFLers who could beat him in the 40.  In the 100?  Eh...  I'm having a hard time thinking of one who I'd be confident about.

HS
ashtabulassassin's picture

Jeff Demps would smoke him. But Jeff isn't in the league anymore. He might still be working on Team USA though, not sure. Ginn is wicked fast though

Buckshots... always there for you if you missed the news last month

HS
mc22's picture

in the 40  - John ross is pretty fast  - if i'm him i'm taking that bet.  Tyreke Hill may need the money more though.

But in the 100 it's Teddy Ginn and those fluid strides baby.

HS
Etenim's picture

This is brilliant on Ginn's part, because it's a no-lose proposition. If he wins, people are amazed by how fast he is. If he loses, people are amazed by how fast he still is at his age.  And in the meantime people are focused on how fast he is and what a long productive career he's having.

HS
buckslan's picture

I highly doubt Ted Ginn would feel like a winner if he talked the talk and could not back it up (and lost 10 grand)

HS
BuckeyeLurker0509's picture

Lol, no former Tressel player likes Urban, and for good reason.

I'm glad he's gone too Mr. Ted Ginn.

HS
AzBuckeye45's picture

I kind of wish that the conversation about Meyer would have been longer. I would have liked to hear what Ginn had to say.

"Cause I couldn't go for three!"

I think his main beef with Urban is that he neglected the state of Ohio when it came to recruiting but you can't blame him for being a national recruiter.

HS
BuckeyeLurker0509's picture

I totally agree! I listened to the whole interview word for word and I was hoping they would get into Ohio State stuff more but the conversation largely centered around his NFL career

I think he just has sour grapes towards Urban because he didnt recruit Ohio/Cleveland/Glenville well enough....but he also called Urban "Ignorant" when discussing his short appearance vs UF in the national title game..

hopefully we get a no holds barred OSU centered interview sometime soon, Id love to hear Santonio Holmes and Chris Gamble etc etc

HS
3rdtimesacharm's picture

What “good” reason is that?

HS

Maybe the Meyer Vs Tressel beat down?

Despite the high cost of living, it still remains popular.

HS
Defiance's picture

That's a tough boat to row when it comes to UFM and his legacy at tOSU.

First, his legacy will always include his entire coaching timeline so Columbus is only one stop on that train. His time at Bowling Green, Utah and Florida comprise a large swath of his time as a HC.

Second, he's not Jim Tressel nor is he Ryan Day but he will always be connected to both because one preceded him and the other followed him.

IMHO, like most things you could always find positive and negative components of Urban's time in Columbus, it just depends on your perspective.

At the end of the day, appreciate what you have and never lament what you don't. 83-9 in the regular season and 54-4 in the B1G is one hell of a mark! Add in a CFP Championship and having never finished less than tied for first the B1G East, he has set the bar high.

Urban's time at The Ohio State University is special in many ways and what his teams and staff accomplished on the field will stand the test of time, much like Coach Tressel's and the other coaches that came before him.

7-0

#2. And then go undefeated against the rest.
#3. And beat your rival.

Beautiful words by Meyer! Terrific testament to the MENTALITY that is required to HAVE that 7-0 record!

HS
Defiance's picture

Duly noted and thank you for the addition Dep.

7-0 is a mark that will always put UFM in the Mt Rushmore of coaches at tOSU!! Damn, I've got something in my eyes guys...

That 62-39 exclamation point at the end of his time as tOSU HC will forever be one of the crown jewels of his time in Columbus!!

"Defiance in Silence"

Shhhh

HS
Trebor40's picture

There is actually only two people that have had a comparable 7 year run, I have no idea why people are so very hateful towards a man who gave our University team so much! They are bitter and resentful even though the same members of the throng were insistently bragging and commenting about Urban's successes!

I would rather be on hand with 10 men then elsewhere with 10,000 - Timur Lenk

HS

Defiance, Urban's record defies naysayers.  But it is "amazing" that he has an 83-9 record and won only 3 Big 10 titles in 7 years.

That 62-39 exclamation point at the end of his time as tOSU HC will forever be one of the crown jewels of his time in Columbus!!

Imagine how lopsided that could have been IF we had just an average tOSU defense. But I'll still take that beat down. Any win against TTUN is a good one.

HS

Like JT, history will judge meyer way better than the present will. People had issues with JT at the end of his tenure because of the lack of offensive creativity and ability to recruit with bama lsu and florida. Those same folks are singing JTs praises while bashing urbz. Those same folks will eventually pick a reason to bash day while singing meyers praises at the same time.

HS
Silver Sniper's picture

JT just couldn’t throw and it hurt us against the best teams. That will never change even in time. Just like the horrible offensive (2015-16) and defensive (2017-2018) coaches that ruined those seasons, respectively. Day was able to turn things around rather quickly, let’s see how Hafley and Mattison do.

HS
3rdtimesacharm's picture

JT = jim tressel

For what its worth, JT Barret beat msu 14’, ND 15’, oklahoma 16’, wisconsin 16’, nebraska 16’, michigan 16’, psu 17’, wisconsin 17’, and usc 17’ when they were all ranked in the top ten. Yeah, he lost to msu, psu, clemson, and oklahoma. I think its still a pretty good record against the best teams osu faced during his career.

HS
Trebor40's picture

Sadly no greater example of recency bias than reading your post and thinking Barrett instead of Tressel

I would rather be on hand with 10 men then elsewhere with 10,000 - Timur Lenk

HS
Silver Sniper's picture

3rd: In fairness, JT actually goes by JT and Jim Tressel doesn’t. I love the shift in discussion to what JTB accomplished in your reply despite my mistake. I wasn’t trying to say JTB hasn’t done great things and beaten strong teams, just that there was a very hard and apparent ceiling with JT so it was frustrating to see him solved and the coaches unwilling to make adjustments.

HS
3rdtimesacharm's picture

No worries silver. I’ve been a staunch supporter of Barrett’s and I guess I get a little defensive because of how some people treat the guy on here. My apologies, wasn’t trying to come at you or anything.

HS

Hey thanks, man. I appreciate that.

Ginn vs Tyreek Hill would be CLOSE.... both those dudes can motor after they get going..

Go Bucks!

HS

Wouldn't be fair... tyreek's running FROM something, as opposed to for something

Tyreek ran a 10.19 100m in high school! Ginn is blazing fast but I don't think he's that fast.

TCM, with full battle regalia of helmet and pads on, I would put my money on Terry Glenn.

Ginn played corner?  I don’t remember that.

HS
Sav45age's picture

In high school.

He could've been the next Chris Gamble here. We started a walk on in '06. Not trying to disparage Mr. Smith, I don't remember him playing poorly, but it would have been fun to see #7 play both ways that year.

HS
Lifetime45's picture

If I remember correctly, that walk-on was a 1st team All Big 10 selection in 2006.

HS
CincyBuck's picture

Yeah...  Smith may have been a walk-on.  But the dude could play.

Teddy was the USA Today Defensive Player of the year and the Army All American bowl MVP. Imagine what a shutdown corner he would have been.

That's how winners play. We convince the other guy he's making all the right moves.

HS

It might have only made a slight difference, but I’m really annoyed that we weren’t able to see the Ginn formation against Florida. He really was something special.

This is definitely where I parked my car.

HS

Didn’t John Ross run some crazy time at the Combine a few years ago?  Like 4.2something?

Fields of Dreams

HS
CincyBuck's picture

Yep.  John Ross is crazy fast.  The problem is, he's not very great at football.  At least not thus far in the NFL.

HS
stxbuck's picture

Ross ran a 4.21 40, setting a combine record. Adidas was offering a $1 million bonus if anyone broke the record wearing Adidas cleats, but Ross had Nikes or something else.

A couple of years ago I saw a special on Nat Geo where Chris Johnson (whose combine record Ross broke) and Devin Hester both raced a cheetah. A straight race would not even be competitive-the cat would blow them away, so a course was arranged where the players and the cheetah would have to turn around and come back down a 50m or 100m course for a total of 100/200m or 200/400m. Hester actually beat the cheetah in the longer race

HS

That host talks too much. He cut Teddy off numerous times.

Go Bucks!

Great Ted Talk.... The thing with Urban and Ginns family, they just are from two totally different sides of the track. There is actually more beef than Jr. let on, Sr is real salty to this day and it shows in Jrs. comments.  Urban never recruited the Land, where as Tress was all about NE Ohio.  Both great Coaches with similar results all under TOSU umbrella

SpielzWheelz

HS
stubbzzz's picture

Yeah.  I’ve personally got no complaints about Urban’s run, (other than blown opportunity with the 2015 team).  But I can totally understand why the Ginn’s would be upset that their guys weren’t getting the consideration.  Especially after they worked so hard to establish that Pipeline in the first place.    And I can also see why Urban wouldn’t want to spend time recruiting anyone that wasn’t up to his standards.

I cant really say that either side is wrong here.  It just is what it is.    But I do hope the Glenville pipeline picks up again under Day.  A lot of great Buckeyes came that way.

HS
BucksHave7's picture

Only $10k though?

HS
stubbzzz's picture

I would never bet against Ginn.   Still, to my eye test, the fastest player I’ve ever seen on the field.   Like I know other guys are comparably fast...  but no one looks as fast visually as Ginn does.   It’s something about his running form I think, he just visually looks faster than all the other fast guys, if that makes any sense.

HS
ShowThemOhiosHere's picture

What would the race be though?

Hard to bet against Ginn, regardless, but I think a few guys might have a chance in a 40 yard type of deal.  100 meter type of deal...forget it.  10 years ago, forget it, period.

Class of 2010.

HS
MGOBLUE0205's picture

Ginn was always crazy fast, but I haven't been following him much these days. He's kinda up there in age, i'm not sure he can still run what he did in college. If he can still run in the 4.3s at his age that's amazing.

HS

Listen to Beanie and the Boom podcast for insight on what several of Tressel's guys thought of Urban. Sounds like many didn't feel appreciated by Meyer, didn't feel welcome around the team, and didn't think he recruited enough inner city Ohio kids.

HS

$10,000 is nothing to these guys. Let's pony up and go.
