Sheesh. Hoping he makes the Chiefs look brilliant and turns into the player we all thought he could be.

Of all the teams he could have landed with, this is top two. The Jets are a dumpster

Such a fall from grace, first rounder with career year for a sixth round pick. Established players just don't bring much draft stock these days.

His career has been relatively disappointing so far, but starting 30+ games in 3 years would be pretty outstanding for a 6th rounder. 6th and 7th guys are typically projected to be career backups/special teams guys.  He’s looking like a 3rd to 5th round pick. It might seem minor, but there are big differences between early round, mid round, and late round expectations.  Hopefully he turns it around. He certainly has the talent. Outside of Mangold and Nugent, the Jets haven’t been kind to Buckeyes for a while.

I had heard the Browns were interested leading up to the Draft.  Seemed inevitable that the Jets were gonna move him.   Good luck in KC, Darron.

Good for Lee. The Jets are a shit show and I hope they never draft another Buckeye. They never deserved Mangold.

Even shit shows won't allow the Jets in the shit show club. That organization seems positively hellbent on f-ing itself up. I guess it's a two-way competition now to see who can be NY's biggest clusterf#@k of an NFL program. Glad Nick got out of there healthy and with a boatload of cash.

The Johnson family are truly a bunch of morons. It's like they took one look at how the Giants fucked up their draft and decided to one-up them in terms of incompetence. I feel bad for Jets fans. They deserve better than this nonsense.

Wrong.  They are the worst (right there with PSU fans), and they deserve a crappy team.

To be fair, DLee was a part of that shit show. He brought very little until last season and then got suspended. I’m hoping the change of scenery gives him a chance to get his head straight because he has physical talent, as we all know.

4-3 or 3-4? Dont take a linebacker in the first round if you're a shit show that cant decide!!!

Scheme shifts didn’t help him. But he simply didn’t make an impact. You can’t blame Todd Bowles for most of Darron’s issues.

Playing a prototype 4-3 WILL at 3-4 ILB is on the coach. Darron certainly didn't help himself by playing poorly from the inside and seemingly having some maturity issues, but I don't think it's a shock to anyone who followed Lee's career that once they moved to a 4-3 he thrived (4th best coverage grade amount LB and 24th overall per PFF). I'm not expecting him to be an all pro in KC, but he should be a solid 3 down LB there so long as they stick to a 4-3

Sorry Urban, Woody is still my favorite

Ryan Shazier didn't have a problem making that transition, but I get what you're saying here.

I would have thrown a 6th and 7th rounder at Lee for the Bengals. Could have been a nickel LB at the least, but probably would have started with this terrible LB corp.

HS
BornAndBredABuckeye's picture

You're right. I hope the change of scenery and scheme will let him shine.

IIRC Lee posted a Tweet earlier today (that he has since deleted) after Maccagnan got fired that cryptically said good riddance. Most likely that was the last straw for the Jets. I loved Lee at OSU but the guy does have a lot of growing up to do clearly. He wasn't in a great situation with the Jets but he didn't exactly help himself there either.

I'm eating my words. 2 with a possibility of three Buckeyes on the Chiefs. Chiefs dont hate the Buckeyes.

I need jerseys stat!!!

Good for Darron. I hope he excels in KC.

HS

I was hoping the Bengals might make a play for him since they need help at LB. But I'm glad Darron is finally free from the Jets. KC is about as good a situation as you can drop into at this point.

Yeah, they had plenty of sixth round picks this draft that could have been used to obtain him and help the LB core.

Seriously.  WTF?  I'm starting to think the Bengals' coaching staff actually thinks we have a decent LB Corp.  Which is a terrifying proposition.

I get that Lee hasn't panned-out.  But he was a high-round pick, playing for the Jets (dumpster fire), who can run.  Conversely, the Bengals have a cast of lead-footed high school players at LB.

HS
Dstacify's picture

Zac Taylor has been pretty heavily preaching character in his players this off-season (something Marvin tended to overlook at times). And Lee hasn't exactly displayed the best character or used the best judgment since he's been in the NFL (considering he's already landed a suspension and basically signed his ticket out of NY with that Tweet he posted yesterday that was subtly throwing shade at Maccagnan). I think the Bengals should've taken a flier on him at least (and they very well might've had Marvin still been HC as he did love his reclamation projects). They must really think very highly of the two guys they drafted to be able to come in to turn things around (and granted I do think Germaine Pratt will turn into a solid player at the very least).

Good luck Mr. Lee.  Use the trade for a 6th rounder as incentive

Well, when the NY papers have officially named the Jets the worst run franchise in NY, with the Giants, Mets and Knicks being the also rans, it might be fir the best.

Glad that Darron landed in KC. The Jets are always a mess. I have never understood how the Jets maintain a fanbase when the Giants also play in the same stadium in New Jersey.

Because the Giants are also a mess and have a GM stupid enough to draft Daniel Jones 6th overall (with Haskins and Josh Allen on the board no less which makes that pick even more of an unforgivable sin).

Wonder if he roomed with Eli Mama Apple at OSU??

Would it have killed the Bengals to offer a 6th and a 7th? Would have been an instant starter for minimal. Hell I would have paid the 5th rounder the old GM was asking for.

HS
Dstacify's picture

The Bengals' new HC seems to be heavily emphasizing building his roster with high character players (which is obviously the polar opposite of what Marvin did). And Lee, as much untapped potential as he has, hasn't displayed great character at all since he's been in the NFL (though the Jets being a dysfunctional organization could've played a part in it).

After having lived in Chief's country for over 2 decades, I can say that I am truly excited for the defense this year.  KC should put on a decent show with Mahomes at QB and a revamped defense (and coaching staff).  That said, still looking for my beloved Bengals to go all the way!

This is fantastic news. The Chiefs are only a better defense away from a deep run in the playoffs. They've got the offense to win the Superbowl. Lee will thrive in KC. The J.E.T.S. have been a dumpster fire since Joe Namath was behind center.

Round on the ends and "HI" in the middle. O-HI-O.

HS

The Chiefs made a deep run in the playoffs last season even with Bob Sutton's crappy defense holding them back and also playing without Kareem Hunt. They just couldn't quite get past NE in the AFC Championship Game.

KC adding 2 buckeyes to the team this offseason? They must really want to win that Super Bowl.
