Let’s get it!

I want a fall Saturday in Ohio Stadium..

HS
IsJoeFlaccoElite's picture

I mean, is their really much more these teams can tell him besides develop a higher basketball IQ ?

HS
stxbuck's picture

It’s more about positioning, like a scout telling them that their team would almost definitely grab them in the 2nd round if available or to add a consistent 5 feet to their shooting range if they want a snowballs chance of getting drafted. Teams are well aware of a prospects athleticism-and how much of a chance it warrants-after their frosh year.

HS

Great news. Hope he comes back ready to fight - we've got a Big Ten championship to win.

And Toledo still sucks.

HS
andretolstoy's picture

Is he actually getting coached while practicing for these teams, or is it just show up, play, leave with minimal feedback?

HS

I'm sure the teams and committee provide a lot of feedback.  Their business is better when the quality of players increases.  It is in their best interest to help prospects work on NBA skills.

200+ Buckeye football games attended since 1989 and counting...

HS
Kevin Harrish's picture

I assume he's getting a fair bit of feedback and coaching during workouts. But even if it's very minimal, it's still more than any other player is getting during that time.

Max's picture

Getting a different point of view on what is important, and some networking are definitely worth it. 2nd round is a crap shoot, and getting someone in a front office to keep an eye on you during the year may pay dividends.

HS
brutus360's picture

Glad to hear he's back. Gives us two true centers. Team should be pretty good.

I am glad to see him coming back, which most of us suspected.  I hope he comes back with increased understanding of the game and that his game jumps big time this year.  Lets Go!!

Best decision for him and the team. He's not ready for the big boys.

Great news for sure!  Looking forward to watching Kaleb in a Buckeye uni next season.

This coming year and next year have the potential to be really special for Kaleb and the team. Already excited for basketball season.

This is definitely where I parked my car.

Get in good shape

Work on defending without fouling

Keep improving your jump shot.

Be a leader

Those should be his summer focus.

Stay golden, Ponyboy.

HS
brutus0717's picture

I think those first 2 go hand in hand. If he wants to make the league, which he obviously does, he will have to get that squared away.

HS
Ohio Guy in Jersey's picture

He improved in both the first two areas from his freshman to sophomore seasons. Increased minutes and focus led to increased production. Needs to continue that trend in year three

HS
Max's picture

And keeping that chicken wing in check on offense, gets called more and more.

HS
seyekcuB's picture

If he drops 20lbs he could be a 1st rounder.

HS
JimmyVanP's picture

he still possibly could if he makes even more improvement to that 3 pt shot but still yeah its a huge longshot

That pretty much applies to any B10-caliber basketball player.  If they can shoot 40% from 3 in the NBA, they can stick.

HS
stxbuck's picture

He’s no Jared Sullinger. I can’ remember if he even went in the first round.

HS
wigmon's picture

Sully went like 23rd overall after back issues were diagnosed prior to the draft.  Probably would have been top 5 had he come out after his frosh year.

HS
raiderred's picture

This team is loaded. And I expect Wesson to really improve this year. Especially around the rim. He gets such incredible positioning but doesn’t always finish. Think having another center on the roster to actually practice against, and who is a defensive shot blocker, will really improve his game

HS

Don't forget Greg Oden: he was all those things & good enough to practice against.

Our honor defend, so we'll fight to the end !

HS
raiderred's picture

I doubt he could practice everyday and is not the athlete that Diallo is anymore. But yes Greg definitely helped him out with some offensive moves

Dstacify's picture

Glad to have him back. That being said was there really much doubt that he would return? His NBA draft stock is not high right now, not in the slightest. Entering the draft wouldn't have been a great business decision for him long-term.

11 Strong.

HS
BUCKEYE3M's picture

I wasn't positive he'd come back. DeShaun Thomas didn't come back, although I know he had different life considerations. But, I thought maybe he'd opt to play overseas like a lot of guys do. I don't see him ever developing into an NBA player, and that in 99% due to his lack of athleticism. Even if he develops into a 45% NBA 3 point shooter, he won't be a rebounding or shot blocking specialist, so that limits him in the association.

HS
stxbuck's picture

Honestly, I think the question was more about his attitude than his game. He served a suspension this year-did he want to come back to the team or say to hell w it and smoke weed and play in Latvia?

HS

Great news.   Final Four!!!!

BucksHave7

HS
FieldsofJreams's picture

Why would an OSU fan downvote this?  The team could quite feasibly put together a Final-4 type season.

HS
wigmon's picture

yeah, I don't think a final 4 is very likely, but doesn't seem to make much sense to down vote a positive outlook.  I think kaleb returning certainly improves our chances.  just think we have too much youth.

HS
FieldsofJreams's picture

It would require high-level PG-play outta Carton/Walker, and then Carton, Gaffney or Liddell blowing up.  I wouldn't bet too much against that happening.

HS
wigmon's picture

Obviously its nothing more than an educated guess at this point.  I think very highly of Carton and there have been good reviews on CJ, but how high of a level are you expecting?  I think better than average in the B1G which is an upgrade over last year, but I don't see either of them being all conference guys next year (honorable mention or all frosh team maybe).  I think Gaffney is very raw and will take a little time to develop.  Liddell is more ready to contribute and has a solid offensive game, but I don't see him coming in and averaging more than 10-12 ppg.

I hope I am wrong and the frosh are that good and everyone else improves, but I am obviously a bit more pessimistic on their impact in year 1.  I think they will play and provide an upgrade for sure.  I just don't see us competing for a B1G title or making it to the final weekend of the tourney next year.

HS
BucksHave7's picture

Thanks.  Let me tell you why.

I wont name names, but we have wanna-be's here who sign up for a profile pretending to be Buckeyes, but are from other schools and here to just run on the Buckeyes.

Its a Buckeye world and they pay the rent! Literally.

Glad to have him one more year.

As a side note, I like the politics of this. They should be allowed to test the waters and not be forced out if they want to see.

HS
Sanitarian2's picture

How is that politics in your mind?

Sani

HS
Dillon G's picture

I will not tell you what to think. I will only give definitions and tell you what others think. You decide on your own.

Political Science 101.

Politics = the determination of who gets what, when and how.

Capitalism = The creator of means owns its production. If you mow somebody’s yard for money, that money belongs to you.

Socialism = The state owns the means of production, not the producer.

The NCAA does not let athletes, even in revenue generating sports, keep what they earn for the school. That is socialism, and they agreed to it. And I don’t agree with those who say they don’t get paid. They do.

So I like this. It was not always this way. If you even talked with an agent, you were out.

Probably closer to feudalism...spend a few years as an indentured servant working for the feudal lord in the castle on the hill.

ttun 2019 offense...same pig, different lipstick.

HS
Dillon G's picture

Feudalism is still a variant of socialism. The King or Queen is the government, and owns everything. Land is granted as noted. Now we call it corporate welfare. But that is going down a road 11W rightly doesn’t want to go.

Stay the course

All juniors can request feedback and the league will tell them a range of rounds they could be drafted in so they offer this type of service already.

HS

Not sure it is quite the same. Don't think that teams can invite Juniors in football to come into town and work them out.

HS
Ohio Guy in Jersey's picture

Great news for the team. Kaleb was smart to engage the process and learn more about how objective observers view his game. Plus he got to play against other top notch players, that’s always a plus.

Some have wondered whether the NBA is in his future. Possibly not. But could still be a very good cbb player. And an overseas career is certainly possible

HS
Huskerbuck's picture

Great decision by Kaleb and his family.  Can't help but believe that the process has provided him many good tips for improving his game.  If he is willing to discipline himself in the S&C part of his game he will improve his NBA stock considerably this year and hopefully for his senior years as well.

Could have used a better stock photo though, it's so bad I wonder if Kaleb wizzed in someone's Wheaties.

  • Shooting guard: sophomore Luther Muhammad, sophomore Duane Washington Jr.,
  • Small forward: senior Andre Wesson, junior Musa Jallow, junior Justice Sueing (sitting out after transferring from Cal), sophomore Justin Ahrens, freshman Alonzo Gaffney
  • Power forward: junior Kyle Young, freshman E.J. Liddell
  • Center: junior Kaleb Wesson, freshman Ibrahima Diallo

This is the best roster we've fielded since the '13-'14 season, and you could argue it's better than that roster

HS

I think this is a better, more talented roster as well.

We're so dang deep at wing I'd love if we could go with a 40 minutes of hell/full court press style game. Worked well in a few games when we were down big and came back. Maybe not with Big Wesson in the game but definitely with a more mobile and shot blocking Diallo. This could keep folks happier with minutes too.
Either way I'm pumped for the season!

Great decision for the Buckeyes and Caleb. I wish the NFL and NCAA could have a program like this. It'd save a bunch of kids from making poor decisions and going undrafted.
