Kaleb Wesson Works Out For Atlanta Hawks

It's a Brave New NBA World for big men/post-up specialists like Kaleb. He's gonna need to keep working on expanding the range on his jumpshot, and become a more effective "dive" man in the pick and roll.  I hope that the skills he acquires/hones in these workouts will translate into a dominant junior season.

Go Bucks!

Agreed. This can only benefit the young man moving forward.

Class of 2001 - classless since then.

True for the NBA, but at least with his size he'll always have a spot on a Euro team just in the post alone.  There are worse fates than making $100k+ a year living on a beach in Greece or wherever.

That's the 100K question imo. If he does the workouts and the NBA says he's too small to play with the likes of Towns, Embid and Ayton and too slow to cover either of the forward positions then it seems Euro ball is the most likely scenario. Does he leave early and start earning or does he come back to play with his brother one more year?

Potentially a tough decision for sure... Could argue either side of it. Playing with your brother has to be pretty special but say you got 10 basketball years in you from this point moving forward.. coming back an extra year could cost you 10%. Even more if you get injured along the way..

Go Bucks!

Have you been to Greece lately? The whole country is a dump! Bad example of Socialiam!

Hopefully KW will not only learn more about what it take at the next level but will show that improvement playing for the Buckeyes next year.  While I love KW and want the best for him I am not sure he is ready to take that NBA step.

I fully believe Kaleb has all the talent to become a productive NBA player that can play in the league but he has to change his body. His lack of lateral mobility is due in large part to his weight and often gets him in foul trouble on both ends of the court.

GO BUCKS

Yes he needs to get his body in the best shape he can possibly so he can get better physically with all aspects of his game, stamina, quickness, vertical, mobility, speed, etc. , just his overall athletic ability by shedding weight and  getting leaner and stronger.

Hopefully this will light a fire under him and he will take it more serious than he has.

IMO he has some lazy still in him.

I’m really glad Kaleb is doing this. And I love Holtmann’s attitude.

Nothing but a positive to get the feedback from the NBA teams. Kaleb can work on the perceived weaknesses in his game which will benefit Ohio State and improve his draft stock.

Us or him?

Beat everyone, in every sport, all the time!!!

It's good for him to do this and good that he's allowed to go through this process without ruining his eligibility.  He could probably pick up a couple of things from it.  But I will eat my shorts if he actually goes pro.  He needs at least one more year.

It's cool that basketball players are allowed to do this...too bad football players couldn't do the same.

Class of 2010.

I really don't get why every CBB player doesn't do this.  He's going to get real feedback from NBA scouts/coaches and find out what to improve on (or, in a tiny chance, actually get drafted and make some money).  I literally don't see a downside.

Agreed. It makes so much sense. Also, he has heard the same things over and over from Ohio State's coaches the past two years. Sometimes it's good to get another voice in there, especially from the NBA.

Bukirob's picture

I truly do not get this.  Kaleb is NOWHERE NEAR ready for the NBA  he can't stay out of foul trouble in college

You WIN with people.

What about exploring one's options do you not understand?

HS

He's doing this to get feedback from NBA scouts. I'd say it's very unlikely that actually declares.

Huge KW fan.  Hopefully is picking up a few tips on how to commit less fouls!

Hopefully on how to follow team rules?

Don't think the weaknesses in his potential NBA game are some deep, dark secret.  I suppose that he gets to have some fun pretending for a couple months, gets to play a pickup game or two but there is the danger that some "expert" will whisper in his ear and he makes an ill-fated decision.

How about get in shape and learn not to foul by moving your feet? Then stop running your mouth to the refs and get better? Sorry this guy is very average until he becomes an adult.

HS

You blacked out my post or “CENSORED” it! I really don’t know why? All that Idid was state that big Wesson needs to become an adult, were talking about a guy who broke team rules which is selfish and missed 3 games and almost cost his team a chance to play in thr NCAA Tournament. Why would you black out my post for stating a very obvious fact? Just asking?

HS
nomatta's picture

I'm not concerned about Kaleb working out, per se, but I do think that him testing the waters at this point in conjunction with the suspension in conjunction with a reporter over at 247 stating the Wesson family isn't exactly happy with how the fans and local press have been treating the Wesson bros... it does make me wonder if Kaleb will think about heading overseas once he gets the feedback that he's not NBA-ready. Kind of feels like he might be looking for a bus out of town and he doesn't want to wait two years.

That said, I'd say 75% he comes back for next season and 50/50 he comes back for his senior year.

the empire never ended

So the guy almost cost his team a chance to play in the NCAA Tournament, because he was childish and couldn’t follow TEAM rules that everyone else follows, IMHO he is fair game to fans and the media, what does his family expect? Maybe a lifetime of forgiveness from the family is why he can’t follow team rules now?
