I hope an exciting and highly-ranked recruit commits to Ohio State soon!
Youre doing this wrong lol
i bet Clemson even moans and groans better than us
Ryan Day needs to recruit at an elite level and that is by far the biggest part of sustaining the success we have had and is also a complete unknown in terms of Day’s ability. I am not going to bemoan or debate any particular recruit or even the strategy, but if Day is not landing top 5-10 classes every year then I would worry about our future. We’ll see.
FYI, we have the 6th ranked class with every class ahead of us having 4+ players more than we do. We're also favored in CB's for 10 of the top 100 (Including commits.) and have CB's for many more. All before players actually see a what a brand new staff can produce.
Is Day recruiting on Clemsons or Bama's level? Nah, but it is unreasonable to expect him too given the continuity of Clemsons staff and Saban's 12 National Championships.
Just for reference, UGA is favored for 4 5 stars, guess how many Ohio St is favored in? 4. So a team that is in the literal best recruiting state in the nation, that's had a very high level of success and has a head coach who's fairly well established is favored to land the same amount of 5 stars as Ohio St is with a new staff...
"Come on, you sons of b!tches! Do you want to live forever?" -- Dan Daly, WWI
Classes that consistently hover within or around the top-5 will win championships. We'll be fine.
Great idea for a thread AK. Now everyone can keep their complaining out of the recruiting news threads.
Really hope this doesn’t become a thing. This would be one of the most pathetic things I’ve ever seen on this message board. Clemson is so much better than us we’re just gonna advertise that in this board. Put an end to the moaning and groaning in the recruiting thread and let this one die.
Nicholas l Ernst
I truly hope it doesn’t either, reading Spooner’s thread reminded me of wandering to Mgoblog as all they do is complain about their recruiting and compare themselves to our recruiting.
I think Day is honestly doing a hell of a job thus far in getting high end recruits not only in the class but many have high interest in us before he has truly coached a game with his name on the program. The dude gets it and I think with success this coming year we may even see an uptick in our recruiting as one major concern towards end of Urban’s time here was the questions of how much longer he’d be here, Day’s youth and energy may even help more than Urban’s rockstar status.
I am a Michigan booster bud....just spent $182 bucks at Wal-Mart this morning.
Here are the rankings on Dabo's classes (according to 247 composites):
2009: No. 36 nationally, (13 enrollees)
2010: No. 27 nationally, (20 enrollees)
2011: No. 10 nationally, (28 enrollees)
2012: No. 20 nationally, (15 enrollees)
2013: No. 15 nationally, (22 enrollees)
2014: No. 16 nationally, (19 enrollees)
2015: No. 9 nationally, (24 enrollees)
2016: No. 11 nationally (21 enrollees)
2017: No. 16 nationally (14 enrollees)
2018: No. 7 nationally (17 enrollees)
2019: No. 10 nationally (29 enrollees)
They should be pissed. We'd never accept this.
Glass half full: championships can be won by recruiting in the 10-20 range.
Glass half empty: we are in some deep shit if they were winning championships without top 3 classes. Now they have the number 1 class.
When Clemson's training staff is unknowingly juicing players, Would recruiting rankings really matter? Don't get me wrong, I'm sure players all over the country are taking supplements. But when you have a coaching staff that's obviously sympathetic, allowing players to supplement and maybe recommending it.Either Dabo is the greatest @ identifying hiddem gems or they are "juicing up" average players. Probably a little of both.
MICHIGAN STILL SUCKS
Yep, ratings don't matter. Just juice em up, show em how to test clean (most of the time), and make sure you tell them everyday is halloween (insert weird power ranger suit gif). Oh, and create an very questionable culture (insert the tragedy that happened to one C. Samuel gif).
eff clemsum and ttun still sucks.
Now, get off my lawn.
God > Family > Buckeyes football
I mean it's all about approach for them in recruiting. They prioritize WR, QB, and D-Line. They have five 5* WR's on their roster currently.
Exactly....if you notice our wr recruiting has taken off under Hartline, QB under Day, and still have LJ pulling in elite lineman. We’ll be good, Henry in 20 Sawyer in 21. I do feel Najee Story will jump aboard and I don’t count us out of the 21 overall player out of Washington.
Okay, cool. Go Bucks.
Those who say they can and those who say they can't are both right. Which one are you?
One drawback of higher rated prospects is they generally leave early.
Clemson is just the hot new choice, We have been consistently above them in recruiting ranks for the past decade so it proves you can win championships with top 15 classes.
Coaching players also is a big part of success and if Day can continue what Urban started the recruits will still come.
The biggest advantage Clemson has over all else, a young elite HC with an elite DC who has zero desire to go anywhere. Couple that with a school that's willing to throw money around, an absolutely beautiful campus and in a state a lot of people wouldnt mind living in, it's a winning recipe.
BV is the key to their success, IMO. Sure Watson and Lawrence have been great QB's and their offense is good but you don't win championships on a great O and weak D. Ask Oklahoma.
stupid post is stupid.
This is a nice try but I’m confident I will still read a bunch of posts in the recruiting threads about how much we suck.
"I don't think you necessarily have to get a trophy to be a winner." - Nick Saban 1/2/15.
Subtle comment from Day about 'developmental positions' think you will see some 3 star OH kids to fill in the class believing they will be around 4 years.
ttun 2019 offense...same pig, different lipstick.
Should be called “therapy thread”.
Spooner’s or this one?
Great thread-of course the whiners won't participate, b/c you don't understand how THEIR pannicky hottakes are the truth of the situation that Coaches Day, Johnson,Alford, etc just can't see!
In the spirit of the thread, I will offer up one "criticism"-Coach Day actually isn't blowing the Buckeye state up in terms of in-state offers like some on this site-ahem staff- would have you believe. He has offered 10 in state kids schollies so far, as compared to 13 in-state offers in last years class, and 10 in the 18' class. How dare he blow up the gurus storyline w/ actual numbers!!!!!!!!!!!!!
It is a little disappointing to see kids that were heavily leaning towards OSU at one time heading elsewhere. It looks like Jarrett and Rogers are heading to Tennessee. Sherman looks like he’s heading to Georgia. Bresse, Williams, Davis and Mickens all seem to be Clemson bound. Ringo is trending to Texas.
Don't listen to Freddy P. Soft
I think that's to be expected. Does it suck, yeah, but no surprise. Day's an unknown so some of these star recruits are gonna run. We'll see soon enough if they were very wrong...
Blessed to be a Buckeye
I definitely don't want to say that I'm worried, but I'm not confident at this point either. It is an unknown and Day still has to prove himself as a recruiter. I have no doubts that we will recruit as well or better than the rest of the conference going forward, I'm just waiting to see whether we will drop a tier from consistent top 3-4 to the 8-9 range as far as average recruit ranking. That is what remains to be seen.
Are you all forgetting that Day hasn't even coached a game as the actual head coach yet. The fact that osu is still within the top 10 in recruiting for 2020 is great at this point. If Day proves he can get the best out of his talent and make playoff appearances then Ohio state will be fine. It's all about what he puts on the field. So give it some time. Let's enjoy the ride.
Hey I’m looking for my friend dudethebroguy have you seen him? !!! ??
Day is 3-0 as Head Coach.
With Urbans players and a couple really bad teams. Even this years bunch are Urbans. The vest started slipping when Coopers kids filtered out. Along with he couldn't replace the coach's when they left as family and friends was getting thin.
Totally agree with you there, different times though and different philosophies. Yes Tressel came in and he did overturn the culture. He did lack in national recruiting to an extent but again those were different times.
Day gets it, let’s sit back trust and watch.
The vest started slipping when Coopers kids filtered out.
Wait what? Back to back national title appearances in 2006-2007, he was 5-3 in BCS games and we won or tied for winning the B1G basically every year.
The vest had no slippage after the Cooper years. 2004 was really his only bad year aside from his first transition year
As the interim head coach.
Purdue and Iowa thought OSU recruits were overrated.
If you hover in the top 15-ish for enough years there should be plenty of talent on hand to compete nationally. Not at all concerned. If we (they) win games, recruits will roll in, no matter.
The problem is, if we are only top 15-ish, that means Penn State and Michigan will be recruiting better than us, making consistent victories over them less likely. As it is now, we expect to be able to beat them every single year. In a world where our recruiting is just on par or a bit worse than them, we're a 50/50 proposition at best, which nobody wants.
To clarify, I don't think we are actually going to only be top 15ish in recruiting ever. We just have way too many built in advantages to fall that far.
I think it's to early to say how this class and the future holds for recruiting. Day is pretty much a unknown outside of Buckeye Nation not like Urban who everyone knew about across the globe. My only worries are will he lean and rely on Ohio talent? I preach this all the time Ohio talent just is not as strong as years ago. All you need to do is look at the top 250 recruiting rankings of any service. I am willing to bet Ohio is not even a top 10 state for talent like back in the 60's thru and into the 90's when it was a top 5 or 7 state talent wise. Sure there are surprises and kids develop late and become stars but the other happens too and they don't become very good. For every A.J. Hawk there is a Justin Zwick and at 70 years old I have been following OSU since Paul Warfield my childhood hero growing up. Plus following recruiting since the 70's when I found out about recruiting rags back in the day. Does that make me a expert or a guru no but I know plenty of the ups and down of the states and where to look for talent. We have a shot for most of the top 10 Ohio kids this year but many of them are not currently that high nationally at their positions. Bottom line we will find it hard to win a NC or even make the final 4 again living on home cooking those days are gone. I just hope coach Day hasn't been pressured from the out cry of Ohio folks and coach's to recruit more Ohio kids I wouldn't put it past Drake. Again time will tell and winning games will bring them to CBUS but right now Day is a unknown and our defense is too.
we dont have a 5 star every second on campus is the real problem
This is will be short but Jt was not short
Wait a minute, how many other Alaskan's are on this thread? Are you guys in Fairbanks?
