This is what Purdue has to do to have any chance of keeping a good coach so not surprised. We are not in the same position.
Spot on. Purdue did a great thing. This can be used in recruiting aka life blood of program. Its nice to see other schools try and compete.I remember when the Detroit Tigers were rebuilding 10 years ago. they over payed for Pudge Rod. Then they got Magglio Ordonez and so on. Point is sometimes you gotta over pay to keep or get what you want. Its a great move by them. If he has another good year, every program outside of a few will be beating on his door again.A million dollars difference is nothing in college football. I don't understand why teams get super cheap. OSU included. If you need to pay assistants 1.5 million a year then so be it. The difference at OSU in a loss is a playoff berth.Play those Two playoff games and the money you make pays your entire assistant coaches salaries for the life of them.
Paying assistant coaches one and one half million a year is absurd. They are middle managers.
If that what it takes to get the best. Then so be it. It is a drop in the bucket compared to what you get. A great recruiting coordinator is worth there weight in gold.Larry Johnson’s ability to get 1st round defensive linemen is worth it. Whether it’s 800,000 or 1.5. The return on investment is worth it. Saving 600,00 and getting stuck with Shiano is not worth it. If they had a better defensive coordinator and don’t lose a game they play in playoffs instead of Rose Bowl. Maybe play for title an extra 15 mil. It’s a no brainer to me.
Is Coach Johnson as good as any DL coach in the nation-absolutely. Would either of the Bosas or Chase Young have gone to Washington State or Missouri if Coach Johnson recruited them for those schools-I highly doubt it. Recruiting is about leveraging the reputation of the school and the program-NOT individual coaches coaches blowing players away wherever they go.
We may disagree on this, but recruiting is absolutely about relationships. Many of these young men cite Coach Johnson as a major factor in coming to OSU, especially the east coast kids. While chase young may not have went to Missouri if coach J was there I doubt you see him at OSU if coach was not there.I read one of the Bosa boys was gonna go to FSU but coach j put OSU over the top. A high quality recruiter is worth there weight in gold in my opinion.I think it’s one of Urbans requirements to be an assistant. The ability to recruit
Obviously if someone is a schmuck/doesn't want to engage w/ recruits, the recruits won't build a good relationship with them, even if they are at Bama or tOSU or ND or some other "name' school. That said, I see people on here acting like "OMG, he's such an awesome recruiter" as if the awesomeness of coach A, B, or C is what gets recruits interest perked up at playing for tOSU or Bama or Clemson. It isn't. I can guarantee if Coach Johnson or whomever Clemson's ace recruiter is suddenly took a job at Kansas or Rutgers, Clemson and tOSU level recruits would not begin flocking to those schools en masse. On the other hand, if a recruiter has tOSU on his polo shirt AND is a personable individual/good communicator, it doesn't really matter who they are-they will become known as a good recruiter pretty damn quickly-look at Coach Hartline-he didn't have any sort of 'recruiting" rep before he became WR coach at tOSU-he had never done it before.
Good for him and Purdue.
Wonder what the buyout is? another successful season and a brinks truck from another school may come pulling up.
Noon games suck
Love it for Purdue. We've got to get some of these middle to lower tier schools to step up and build up their program. It makes the B1G better. That's important if you want to get in the beauty pageant at the end of the year, er, playoff.
Hate it for us. Purdue has been kryptonite for us ... this won't help! LOL
LB's covering Moore in the slot was the actual kryptonite.
Obviously a better gig than C-Town. Joe Tiller and Leon Burtnett have set the B1G ablaze as Coach of the Year while the Buckeyes just employ also-rans.
From a competitive standpoint, big win for the conference and Purdue football.
Also from a competitive standpoint I can't wait to see Ohio State get some payback from the Boilers and Brohm.
Got M...igan gossip? Bang it here.
Idc we need to murder both them and Iowa when we play them again.
Iowa - 2020
Purdue - 2021
"Why be around average?" - UFM
Maybe we can beat one of them in Indy from first.
Purdue spending some of that B1G Network money.
The real question is, what is the buyout?
Good for him.
And his family.
Beat everyone, in every sport, all the time!!!
I am a fan of Brohm's and believe Purdue was wise in signing him to a long-term deal. Brohm has done a terrific job in a challenging environment and Purdue should be better going forward. Go Bucks!
The Big Ten is the best conference because it has the best coaches. Big win for Purdue and the B10.
On a side note, I know a few Louisville fans that swore to me up and down that Brohm was going back home. They ate their crow when he chose to stay at Purdue, and now he's signed to a long contract. Very nice.
Man there's a lot of chedda in beating OSU.. que the Brohm XFL clip
Crap ton of money in beating OSU...Iowa actually extended Ferentz last year after the game so long that his Great grandchildren will be the Coach of Iowa in 2084 yet.
I am a Michigan booster bud....just spent $182 bucks at Wal-Mart this morning.
Franklin's career is only in the spot it is because of the blocked FG.
Glad to see other B1G programs shelling out big bucks to make their program better.

Day knows he needs to win a NC, and then he will get a big raise!
