I'm not aware that I'm breaking any rules, but who am I to question the mods?

Frisco, where are you in Frisco? Or are you in Bay Area in general...or not there at all?

Nice! I watch a few games a year with the Bay Area Buckeyes in San Francisco. Let me know if you ever want to join!

Yeah, you were right, it's way too much of a minefield.

HS

Probably right. I just figured if I have to hear Skip and Shannon run their idiot mouths about it, I'd rather hear the thoughts of people whose opinions I value more.

No doubt. It's just hard for most to abide by the commenting policy while discussing topics that encroach on the line.

Completely agree.  Some political topics should be allowed imo.

No matter which way one leans, this is an important topic that should be addressed by OSU fans, and sports fans.  It's relevant.

Although I would normally lean with Bosa, (and I do in this case,) I can see good cause for the other side.   Attention needs to be paid on police brutality and civil rights.  The problem is, Kaepernick is the wrong person to lead that movement.  He's in way over his head, and he's a clown as Bosa suggests.  That movement needs more guys like Malcom Jenkins if it wants to be taken seriously.

Thank you Urban Meyer and Gene Smith

In today's climate, I don't blame anyone for keeping their political views private, no matter which side. Used to be you didn't judge someone for who they voted for and either way, you didn't know because you didn't talk about it.

HS

It makes sense but sucks he didn't realize or care sooner.  You know it had to be used for negative recruiting

He's a kid... this is 1000000000% his agent or business manager doing a deep dive prior to setting up off the field money.. It's probably way more than some political posts. Probably deleted anything ( photos, tweets, instagram posts etc) that could kill an endorsement deal..

Moved this to Anything Else...I'd chalk this up as Bosa being young and taking a side social media-wise that he probably shouldn't have taken public (or at least tabled until after he's in the NFL).

Got M...igan gossip? Bang it here.

HS
FriscoBuck's picture

I just don't like that he deleted them. Men stand by their words.

(Although to be fair my words at 20 didn't impact millions of future dollars, so who knows what I would've done.)

This is more a statement about the culture than it is about Nick Bosa. It's really too bad.

I don't blame Bosa for doing this but I would have respected the hell out of a statement from him along the lines of "Hey, this is America. If you have a problem with it, go fuck yourself."

HS

C'mon man, you don't challenge the Twitter mob.

He was very wise to quietly delete them and keep his opinion to himself going forward.

HS
LCT's picture

Agreed. I get why he did it.

But think about it. In 2019 it's "controversial" to express support for the elected president of the United States. Insane.

Sorry but those that run a business approach things differently. Living in south florida, i don't wear anything (buckeye gear) during work. No need to offend a ttun, gators or UM south fans. Some things you do for business purposes, exatly why Nick did it. Nothing wrong with it at all. It's abundantly clear that supporters of one side have shaped a narrative that the different opinions of others are evil if they don't align with their opinions. Growing up in the ohio valley in the 70's you were allowed to voice your opinions without worrying about being stalked in a restaurant with your wife, being cold cocked @ the student union because of different political opinions, we never argued or hated one another because we were republican or democrat. This isn't the america that I grew up in.

You may have noticed but players with strong political views aren’t viewed that favorably in the nfl.

domestic abuse is generally ok there. Political views though? The owners get testy.

Shit, NFL owners take convicted murderers back, if they're good enough. Just don't cause them PR trouble & you're OK, which isn't really that much different from the rest of society. Sadly.

"What happened to, "each according to the dictates of his own conscience"?

It's still there but there's never been a time when one did not potentially pay a price for such freedom. The NFL has allowed itself to be extorted for hundreds of millions so it's probably a good idea that he decides to never have a political opinion again.

Seems like a pretty smart move to me.  It's a business so it makes sense to not limit your market.  We live in a world where people burn jerseys of players who leave, burn shoes when a company makes a commercial they doesn't like, and stop watching a sport b/c a fractional portion of the players take a stand (figuratively) on an issue that is important to them.  It's a smart financial decision just like leaving to start rehabbing early.

HS

I just want to say that I’m proud of everyone of you for not taking this off the rails yet.

I think 11w should try and have a forum for politics, religion etc. With a strict zero tolerance of bad behavior. I think this is a very important time in our country. Some of us see whats going on and think "WTF" is going on am I taking crazy pills? Does everyone else realize whats going on? Pretty sad state of affairs when a 20 year old has to silence his opinion for fear of retaliation of his opinions and that his girlfriend is a Fox news contributor, Madison Geisoto, yes she graduated from OSU.

I’ll assume you mean “...a worse place to live for someone with my personal political beliefs...” because SF is consistently rated one of the best quality of life cities in the USA.

As someone born and raised in Florida, just the lack of mosquitoes makes it easy for me to imagine a worse place.

Regardless of which politician, it’s probably smart to keep politics out of your social media in his position. No need to give any potential employer a reason to be turned off by your opinions. I know it’s hard these days, but it’s ok to keep some opinions to oneself.

HS

Either way you look at it, it doesn't reflect strong character/conviction does it?

Doesn't necessarily reflect anything about either of those things. As had been mentioned, it's simply smart from a business perspective.

"Year for what?"

HS
GunnerBuck's picture

While I understand why he did it it really does reflect badly on the culture we live in right now. The really sad part is, it's the vocal extreme minority who forces peoples hand.

(Also, if you find offense in the last part of that statement, you're part of it.)

For me, I judge Nick Bosa as I judge all Buckeyes athletes.  While they are at OSU, I wish them the best in athletics.  Hope they all help us win, win, and win.  Then, if they are good enough to play pro ball, I root for the best career they can have.  But, their private life is their business.  Not my business or really not anybody's business either.  Thanks Nick for a great--but unfortunately--short career at OSU,  GO BUCKS!

I mean I have no issue with him being conservative, I have heard that the “die hard trump supporters” (something nick bosa apparently is) , tend to get isolated socially in the locker room , and I mean Nick Bosa has had some HOT takes on twitter that made me unfollow him , pretty smart if he doesnt open his mouth much about political views since the demographic that is the majority of the nfl is almost 100% against the man he supports.... I mean look at Nick Mangold .. proud supporter & his hot takes is one of the reasons he wasnt signed by a new team (besides him being a lil old also)

This post is inherently political.  There are undertones.  I have to give it to you, it's smart.  But it's not like none of us know where you stand on various political matters as it is pretty clearly stated to any half intelligent being.  For example, I noticed you called him "the President" which tells me either you have an undying respect for the office of the presidency or you're a supporter yourself.  This post is almost the exact counter post to the OP.  I haven't said anything, folks.  Nothing at all.

A gentle reminder to BE NICE. Plays guitar and makes iced tea in the winter.
