Would love to see Mickelson win, even if it would knock Jack out of being the oldest player to win the Masters

take the top 3 odds-to-win out, and bet on #4 through #13 and the winner will come out of that group 9 out of 10 times.  (I just made this same bet again this year in Vegas last week at $40x10)  This year that rules out Rory, Tiger and DJ.  Back to back Masters is practically unheard of, so that rules out Reed.

Speith can absolutely destroy Augusta when he's on as long as he can avoid his Tin Cup moments.

Thomas will win a major this year, that kid is scary good.  Fowler is due, but he's BEEN due.  I'm not sure he has it up top.

I guess Speith, Thomas, Fowler

Golf is always more fun to watch imo when Tiger is in the hunt on the weekend. Hoping he plays well..

Seems like there's always a Euro doing good things... so I expect guys like Rose and Molinari to play well and be in the Sunday mix.

I'm going Tiger, Rose, Thomas

Go Bucks!

Tiger, Finau, Fowler

Always have been a Tiger Woods fan, so here’s to hoping he makes it to the weekend.

Tony Finau is one of my dark horse candidates. I like this kid more and more every time I watch him play.

Rickie is Rickie. The odds makers definitely don’t like him this weekend, which means I’ll rout even harder for him.

European Dark Horse - Jon Rahm I just got a feeling he’s going to be in it till the end.

Read he played a practice round last week in the 60s at Augusta, and that included a 3 putt on the 1st I think.

I’d like to see Rickie or Tiger win. But I really think Justin Rose has a good shot at winning this year.

I'm just hoping for firm and fast all week (no more rain), and a loaded leaderboard on moving day and Sunday. The last 3 hours of Sunday at the Masters is some of the best sports watching in the world.

For first time major winners, would love to see Rickie or Tony Finau win. For first time Masters winners, I root for Rory or Justin Rose over a DJ or Koepka.

Tiger Woods winning the 2019 Masters would be the completion of the greatest comeback in the history of sport. Hasn't won a major in 11 years, and hasn't won a Masters  in 14. Would be incredible.

Who I WANT to see...Tiger.  Last year's Tour Championship with his walk up 18 was unreal. Inside the ropes, he's as an electric of a player as there's ever been.

Who I THINK will win/compete-Rose, Rory, JT, DJ...then someone like Fleetwood or Paul Casey will probably be in contention. I imagine Couples will be top 15 heading into the weekend and then fade off.

Who will win?  Probably none of the above.

I'd like to see Phil get his 4th or Spieth find his game and get his 2nd. Highly unlikely on both fronts.

Finau is a good dark horse.

I

I'll go with DeChambeau or Fowler as the winners.

For me, it was a toss up between Rory and Francesco Molinari.  I'm going with Rory at -14.

HS

Value pick - Hideki Matsuyama.  Ball striking numbers are top notch (most important trait at Augusta) just needs to get hot with the putter for a few days.  Hard to argue against Rory as the heavy favorite tho given current form and course history.

After their battle last year, I expect to see these two at least push into Sunday going at it.  Green jacket gets hung on a rack next to other green jackets.

I just want to see it come down to about half a dozen guys trading birdies and trading blows back and forth and it coming down to someone in the last group making birdie on eighteen to win it. I don't care so much who wins as that it is just crazy exciting to watch.

You've got to kick at the darkness till it bleeds daylight.

(Why does) (The) Masters (TV coverage) (start once everyone is almost already done with their round?)

(Who) (will even still be) Golf (ing the last hour of their) coverage?

HS
tcm1968's picture

Because they are OLD SCHOOL and believe less is more. Same reason they don't really do commercials. CBS has offered them $100M+ for years to show the whole thing wire to wire and they turn it down every year. Neither the Masters or CBS make barely any money from the TV side of things. Masters makes all their dough from merch, tickets and food and drinks. It's basically a handshake deal with CBS. THey want to be on when they want to be on and it's good for CBS to have the Masters.. win win for CBS and the Masters even if us fans feel a little cheated..

I've bellyached about the lack of coverage for years and never really cared for how they run the club but there's still something nice about there being an event that's pretty throwback compared to the price gouging let's make as much money as possible stuff that goes on in sports today. Food and drinks are pretty cheap, tickets are cheap ( not on secondary market obviously) and they don't gouge on merch.. Heck even the parking is free...

Like I said... Old school....

Go Bucks!

Please do provide your definition of what constitutes a "sport" so we can make binary classifications according to your perspective.

Golf is neat. Not sure where the debate about whether it's a sport came in to the thread about who's going to win the tournament.

HS

In Italy, golf is a sport. In America, it is not.

HS

In Italy golf is nowhere near as important as it is in the U.S. - they just don't prioritize it like we do.  Most that do golf it is tied to their extreme wealth or it acts as a business meeting.

In the U.S. golf is priced reasonably and is everywhere making it very convenient to enjoy the game.  I absolutely love to go play golf.  What other "sport" can you get out on a perfectly manicured course with such majestic landscape surrounding and get to hang with some buddies or clients, drink some beers, smoke cigars, and think about nothing but the clear blue skies.

What I meant above - is in a joking way - a poke at the idea that it is physical sport / activity.  What other way to have some fun than post Caddyshack...  Golf is more of a mental game, like chess, than it is a sport.  Get the mechanics solid and the mental side of an individual can destroy even the best mechanics.

Yes, golf is "neat", but not "sportly".

On a side note - do you have some kind of wacky attraction to me?  Sure seem to love to cherry pick.  If you don't like my opinion just move along to the next post.

If you don't like the thread or the opinion of the OP, go ahead and just move along.

You could've just posted a funny clip from Caddyshack with a funny quip without poking those that enjoy golf in the eye. That adds nothing helpful to the conversation about who's going to win the tournament.

Amazing feat by Tiger Woods today, almost brought tears to my eyes. Today firmly establishes Tiger as the 2nd best golfer of all time behind Columbus' very own, Jack Nicklaus.

18 majors and 6 green jackets > 15 majors and 5 green jackets.

It's a beautiful day in Columbus, Ohio... and TTUN still sucks.

15 majors

80 + tour wins

A Grand Slam (there is no such thing as a Tiger slam)

Greatest comeback in sports history (today)

Only pro golfer that to publicly humiliate himself and apologize to his sponsors for his infidelities on national television.

Plus only pro golfer to win the Masters (2001) after the Masters committee reconfigured the course to prevent that pro golfer from winning the Masters (2000).

That all belongs to Tiger Woods (GOAT).
