I was fixin' to say the exact same thing! As a former RN, I am impressed as hell!

I'd rather be an hour early than a minute late.

Unreal, so happy for him! What an inspiration you are Ryan! Keep it going Buckeye!

Man he's got incredible drive. I wish we had him coaching our LB's.

As long as we beat scUM.

Prayers for him and prayers that comes to pass some day!  No pun intended.

Meyer has had some amazing players when you think of determination and will.  Tim Tebow, Ezekiel Elliott, Joey Bosa, Mike Thomas....actually, there are way too many to name.

I can't think of anyone with more will power than Ryan Shazier.

What he has accomplished is nothing short of a miracle.

Thank you Urban Meyer and Gene Smith

HS

Ryan committed to Jim Tressel and the Buckeyes  and decommitted from Florida when UFM left Florida. That is some good Karma to end up playing for Meyer  eventually who he wanted to play for to begin with.

That is F'n awesome. Thank goodness it was not a bunch of stacked up milk crates at random gym offering cross fit training.

Makes you kinda wonder what would have happened if Ryan was in the 'Shoe when Mayfield tried to plant that rag flag?

I'd rather be an hour early than a minute late.

HS
BornAndBredABuckeye's picture

Shazier would have planted that flag somewhere, that's for sure

HS

Amazing.

And the Steelers - who I hate - continue to handle this situation with absolute class.  Awesome as well.

I was going to post exactly this. Steelers setting a example of how a team should treat it's own.

Absolutely dislike the Steelers but commend them on taking care of Ryan during his injury. I truly hope that he doesn’t try to play football again. The risk/reward just isn’t worth it.

HS
CowCat's picture

That's my take too. The Steelers have been gracious, but Ryan should count his blessings. His recovery has been miraculous and he's put 100% into it. But there's a difference between getting healthy vs. being in shape to go hardcore and fast in the NFL. Serious injuries always leave vulnerabilities behind. Ryan needs to be healthy for his family first.

If he's actually able to get back into the type of condition required to play NFL level football, he'd pretty much have to get back on the field.  It would be historical.   Granted that's a very big "if," even considering his amazing progress.

And if we're only worried about risk/reward, no one should be playing football when it really comes down to it.

HS

Now what's YOUR excuse.... Thanks for inspiring so many Ryan. Lastly... Future coach on staff at THE...

Despite his injury, Shazier has expressed a goal of playing in the NFL once again.

I do admire this guy.

I hope that he does not try to play in the NFL again.

In old Ohio there's a team that's known throughout the land...

HS

He'll only try if he's physically capable, and if he's physically capable, then why not?

Glad to see that strong young man continuing to improve.  I hope he's able to one day get back on the field.  He deserves to.

Strength equipment is expensive & guarantees you nothing. A strong will is free & will give you everything you need.

Pretty much have to believe this guy can accomplish anything he wants to!

I dunno.   I think that he is tempting fate.

Happy for the guy, but I'd take a longer look at the people in my life.

Sooooo... how freaking high was he jumping before the injury? And what is typical for an elite athlete? Cause I'd be impressed by that even if he hadn't had a traumatic spinal injury. This is certainly a lesson for us all in grit and will and the benefits of being fit in the first place.

You've got to kick at the darkness till it bleeds daylight.

HS
Steelydan54's picture

RDS is driven to return to football, and that drive has taken him farther than I believed possible. I refuse to deny him the goal he is working toward (and I mean a negative comment), so chase your dream and if you recover sufficiently to compete at the highest level and can line up out there without fear, none of us have the right to second guess you. I Shalieve!!!

Not sure if there were words in this article. I went straight to the video and immediately started jumping for joy. Whether this man plays football again or not, does not matter. He's already a winner.
