Well, technically, he never planted the flag.
Trying to plant the flag was about as smart as trying to outrun those cops. Hopefully he's learning from these poor choices.
I'd rather be an hour early than a minute late.
Beat me to it Knar... The operative missing word is "tried"...
"I don't apologize for anything. When I make a mistake, I take the blame and go on from there." - Woody Hayes
What Mayfield showed was he was an absolute idiot. You can't plant a flag in field turf, moron. I have no problem with him running around with his team's flag, but just don't embarrass yourself.
"We get paid to score touchdowns, not kick field goals"
-- Urban Meyer
He beat our ass on our field and became the Heisman winner and #1 overall draft pick. I'm sure he feels far from embarrassed.
May not be embarrassed but he still looks like a total dumb ass and an Idiot!
I'm sure he feels far from embarrassed.
As I recall, Mayfield apologized for his poor attempt to plant the flag.
I was just pointing out how stupid it was. As a player he should know that field turf isn't grass and dirt. It's basically astroturf on top of layers of rubber pellets.
Also it was just a pointless thing. We beat Oklahoma in Oklahoma the previous year. So Yay! You got a win against OSU, but you're not superheroes.
The past is just that, the past but, I believe his apology was forced by his head coach, not him, being truthful. And his reasoning for doing it in the first place was him saying that OSU gathered and sang the fight song when everyone that knows anything about OSU knows that after every game, win or lose, they gather and sing the alma mater. A little research on his part and it all could of been avoided.
*Could "Have", not could "of". Good God.
Really? WoW w/e man...……..
Ahh, so you think he is so stupid that after he played 60 minutes on that field with no grass stains, that he didn't realize it wasn't actually grass grown on top of dirt.....
I think it is way more likely that he planted a memory in your head that you will never be able to get over. That is called living rent-free my friend, and you are better off just tipping your cap and realizing that he is the real deal. What would you be saying if he did that same exact thing inside the Big OutHouse? You would be one of his biggest supporters. But since he whipped our Buckeyes, you are going to think about him every time you can't get a turd out without it going sideways.
Either get on the train, or get the hell off the tracks.
Either get on the train, or get the hell off the tracks.
I'm not sure what you even mean by that. Not everyone on this board is a Browns fan, including me. I'm happy if they win, but if they don't I'm fine with it.
Also, it's not as if everyone wants to talk about Baker Mayfield all of the time. This article brought him up as a topic and people reacted to it.
Yeah, even baker failed at planting a flag on turf.
If it's brown, flush it down
Yeah, this whole article assumes I give a shit about the Browns.
"We gotta go win this next game and make the State of Ohio proud!"-UFM
Good thing you read it.
And you assume I did, which I promise you I didnt.
C'mon Brutus, you at least have to read the article before you comment on it :)
I was not a Baker fan after what he did at OSU with the flag, but have to give him props for helping the brownies. And more props for going against cowherd's criticism
It’s almost worse if all you did was click it to comment.
Can’t stand Baker or the Browns lol
TL;DR. Screw BM.
This. I hate the guy. He could win Cleveland more super bowls than the Patriots cheated their way to and I'd still hate him. But I still love the Browns and hope they win it all! Aaron Rodgers is a tool, but you can bet your cleats Packers fans still want him to stick around and win.
"The only good thing about it is winning the d*** thing" - Urban Meyer on The Game The War
Being as you are a Browns fan I do not get this take. For me I can separate what happened at the college level versus the pros. If Peppers would have worked out for the Browns I would have been happy. As long as Mayfield stays out of off field trouble I am on his side.
I don't buy one goddam drop of gas in the state of Michigan!
I’m man enough to admit that mid way through last year Peppers actually started to get pretty good.
I forgave him after the Jets win.
Maybe that's part of what I don't like about him is that if Ohio State and Oklahoma ever play each other again you just know he'll sound off and troll, like Carson Palmer in Cincinnati back in '08 (which was the beginning of the end for Palmer) and if or more likely when the honeymoon ends, the fans in the Land will clash with this guy. I'm just trying to enjoy the ride while it lasts.
God forbid somebody roots for their alma matter
As fans of ttun prove though, some people just can't do it without being complete tools.
There's a sizable chunk of OSU alumni that are guilty of that as well. Part of life.
Mayfield = trash
Quality comment. Very thoughtful and great insight.
Oakland has a stadium where actual sewage comes right up through the shower drains in the locker rooms, and yet this guy calls Baker Mayfield trash. I'd rather be trash than actual shit. But carry on with your fine self
Haters are paid to hate, it's in their dna, ain't it great!
Baker and Baldwin both are from Lake Travis HS in TX. I have a friend who knows both families well and she even had a kid play football there w Baldwin, she said Baker has always been a drunk f---- up and Baldwin has always been all class.
From his HS days?? Maybe he is, but if someone was judging me at 24/25 based on my activity at 16-18, that wouldn’t be very fair.
Did you forget his Public Intoxication and Fleeing arrest from 2017 already ? https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MkrwHhn2i6o
And if you could choose their football trajectory? Who's would you take?
Some are going to say negative things about successful people, few know the actual truth. I don't have anything for or against him, but he doesn't seem as bad as the other brown's texas qb.
Forgave him as soon as the browns drafted him. Love his fire and passion for the game and his team. Only man I love more in Cleveland is kitchens and that’s just bc that man is as funny and down to earth as they get.
And he coined the phrase "whoopty hell" the other day, which is my new favorite go-to thing to say ever.
"It's always scotch-thirty on my island."
Just don’t tell people on here he was an Alabama QB bc they’ll hate him for life. Lol
Judging by your votes, what you say works.
I know it’s the off-season, but this isn’t very OSU related....
I’m not a big NFL fan (so I’m slightly unbiased here) but our guys could have prevented him from doing that by beating OU. I have a bigger issue that we couldn’t throw the ball or do much on offense that game, than I do with his antics.
I was never mad at the dude. He shredded our D. He earned our field.
If you die before you die, then you won't die when you die.
Not sure why anyone would downvote this. It’s a game. He won. He celebrated. This is all normal.
He celebrated, but he did it in a jerky way.
But I was young and stupid once, and now that I'm old I'm just smart enough to not hole one bonehead thing against a guy for the rest of his life.
But if he does any more bonehead things, that's another story
Varys: I've always hated the bells. They ring for horror, a dead king, a city under siege.
Tyrion: A wedding.
Another lmao joke. So he can beat our ass, and then you get to choose how he celebrates? gtfo
If you try to stab a flag into the block O (and fail pathetically at it, BTW) then you are a jerk too. So you gtfo
So if you win, you get to do whatever you want? That is definitely not how life works. I can understand liking the Browns - some people do. But this comment is just stupid.
I never said that. But I will definitely laugh at how hurt people get over what he did after winning a football game that he spent a year preparing to win.
It's your third sentence. lol
Some folks take that personal.
I laughed when he didn’t it. We’re the ones who played bad offense was terrible that day.
We had a "Basic Offense". What goes around...
I didn't when he didn't it. But I'm I am now, currently. Not to also mention that the defense was offensive bad terrible too that day also.
Kicked our ass. We needed to be humbled after that piss poor performance.
Honestly, I don't care who you played for before. There have been players from former high school rivals who have wound up on the Buckeyes, and former Michigan players who ended up with the Browns. All are welcome.
Didn't like the flag stunt, but I liked the way we played that day a lot less.
The most "loud mouth, disrespect" poster on 11W.
I never cared that he did it honestly. Don't want it to happen? Don't lose.
But then again, there isn't enough alcohol in the world to make me be a Browns fan, so it's a moot point anyway.
Baker is my boy. Now.
Fields of Dreams
Maybe the Browns will finally have a clue on the field this year.
Hey, he made enough dumbass decisions in college (and who the hell didn't?)...
I hold no grudges, and Cleveland deserves all the support it can handle anyway.
As an aside, my son just started up another round of flag football this spring. His team is the Browns this season.
They opened against the Steelers today, and won 38-12...I've been chanting "Beer we go, Brownies" in my head all day.
I had to run away high, so I wouldn't come home low...
You Browns fans are so easy. Anyone that pulls a punkass stunt like that to my team, is an enemy for life. You didn’t see any of our guys acting like that when we beat them the year before. I don’t care about the Browns, but if I were a fan, I couldn’t root for him.
Takes more energy to hold a grudge than just move on. Attacking browns fans Bc we love the QB of our team is a bit odd.
You’d feel different if you were a Browns fan, I can pretty much guarantee that. As for the way OSU after when they beat OU, we really don’t know that’s true. Sure, there were no antics as obvious as what Baker did, but there very well could have been some things said and done we weren’t aware of. Anyway, if I’m being honest, when Baker tried to plant the flag, I remember thinking two things. I don’t like this guy, and that’s the kind of guy my Browns desperately need
I'm a Browns fan and I can't stand him. The attempted flag plant doesnt bug me at all though. Him pelting an opponent in the head with a football for cutting off the corner of the endzone does. I can understand the flag thing, but the other part is straight dirty imho
You have the right to feel the way you want. He hasn’t given me any reason not to like him as a Brown, and that’s really what I care about right now
I'd say it bothers you a little or else you wouldn't use the word attempted.
User name checks out.
And there is why you can hold this against him, you are not a Browns fan.
That’s the point. How’s any self respecting Buckeye fan going to just forgive and forget because your team drafted him? If he were on any other team, would you be so forgiving? You guys are sellouts.
bigten..that. is. awesome.
I didn't realize that a buckeye fan had to hold a grudge in the first place.
Why would a self respecting buckeye fan be more mad about a player who showed up and lit us up than at the horrible defense on display by OSU? If you don’t want people to plant a flag, don’t get your ass beat.
Yeah, well…that’s just like, your opinion, man.
Name your team then, if we are so easy....
My interest in the League has dropped considerably over the years, but I’ve rooted for the Broncos since I was a kid. If they’d drafted Faker, I’d have written them off too.
But wait, the Broncos have 2 Michigan players on their roster? Based on your logic for Mayfield, you really should never root for the Broncos, or any team with a Michigan player, ever again.
Basically, your argument is hilarious and dumb.
Sorry Urban, Woody is still my favorite
He's also not allowed to root for Joe Flacco for Denver on the account of him playing college ball at Delaware. Delaware uses winged helmets that look mighty similar to UM's. That's a big no no.
Side note, wish he’d plant the flag everytime the browns win in the middle of the field. Let the league know browns are here. But in the NFL guys don’t play with the same fire as they do in college.
How easily people sell out.
Douchebag... if he played for any other team he would be. Go... Ohio, but even for the benguls... pretty low.
He’s part of Ohio now. Get over it.
Nope.. he’s a douchebag
He is a former walk-on at 2 different schools who became a Heisman winner and the overall #1 pick in the NFL Draft. I've met many douchebags, but they don't seem to have Baker's accomplishments, mostly just online posters who can't deal with reality.
I bet browns fans would cheer on jamius Winston if he won for them. I’m a bungles fan by birth and I refuse to watch and support them for passing on Hyde for a thug. I’m a die hard buckeye fan not a desperate fan.
Actually if you're a nfl fan of ohio, one fits the very definition of desperate.
What does ones accomplishments have to do with being a punk? Draymond green has a big list of accomplishments and we can all agree he is a giant douche.
Exactly!!! He’s an azz!!
Mayfield really knows how to pick someone to defend his viewpoint. Brett Favre...the same guy who was sending snapshots of his johnson to a woman who was not his wife. Mayfield is a sore loser and an even sorer winner. Just glad that he doesn't play for a team that I cheer for...
Three downvotes is a record for me! I will apologize if what I said isn’t true, lol.
Technically, and as of this moment, you received 6 DV’s. They are offset by 4 UV’s.
All of this gets me to wondering why a poster can see everyone else’s DV/UV count but for your own, you only see a net number. Anyone know why this is?
Send the Earth Reverberating
My guess is that the staff doesn't want any type of argument to ensue between posters. There are people on here who are serial down-voters and some who really don't know what they should be using a down-vote for. If someone has a difference of opinion they sometimes get down-voted. Why would anyone vote a difference of opinion? I only down-vote crude comments or when somebody is name-calling another poster.
I only DV stuff that violates policy ... and I'm slow enough that usually those posts are DV'd to oblivion before I get a chance.
This could be. It would be nice if a member of the 11W staff responded as to why. I’ve seen folks with 20 or 30 UV’s and a nearly equal number of DV’s , but the poster only sees a net number of something like +1 or -1, then probably wonders why no one cares about their opinion, when in fact, a lot of people responded by voting.
Maybe the 11W staff are afraid that we can’t handle the truth.
If the staff doesn’t respond, do any of the mods know?
How can you tell how many downvotes you have?
I think if you look at your profile you should be able to come up with that information. I know that it shows how many of upvotes and downvotes that you have given.
In old Ohio there's a team that's known throughout the land...
That only gives an overall number, not a number for a specific post.
C'mon get real, who hasn't done that? I'm mean like, everyone kills or something at some point...
Congrats on your new record... and counting by the way.
Forgiving him for what? Beating us fair and square and enjoying it?
I will always root for Baker Mayfield....
Full disclosure I'm a Bengals fan. I don't dislike him bc he attempted to plant a flag after a well-deserved victory. I dislike him because he seems to have the most fragile ego I've ever seen. The dude is a god damned multi-millionaire and still gets his feelings hurt.
Like MJ, LeBron, Jeter, they all carry a chip (real or perceived) they think it gives them an edge and it's tough to argue the results. Maybe I need a chip on my shoulder.
OSU fans complain all the time when Cowherd makes his typical troll comments. Also it wasn’t his ego, he was calling out cowherd who said OBJ didn’t want to be in Cleveland. I think Mayfield has a right to call him out, he feeds of the doubters.
I agree. Just hope he stays away from twitter. They never help, ever. (Unless you are a Kardashian, more hits are for better for them for some reason, different discussion not for this great site on OSU)
I take it you're not a millionaire, yet speaking of fragile ego's. Yours is so fractured that you have to point out he only attempted to plant the flag. Glass houses and that sort of rot.
You either love him or hate him. Depends if he's on your team
Forgive Baker Mayfield?
People say “he celebrated let him celebrate” no one else plants flags at midfield, or attempts to.
I’ve seen MSU do it, I’ve seen a few teams do it actually
Mayfield had an excellent rookie season, while helping to make the Browns just an okay team (which is way better than being terrible). But he really ain’t done anything yet. At this rate, Browns fans are begging for another Lucy holding the football for Charlie Brown moment.
After going 1-31 the previous two seasons and then reversing that to 7 wins in one season is a great accomplishment, a great team accomplishment that Mayfield was apart of. So he is getting over hyped for that. He no doubt had a nice season though but he still has a lot to prove .
He does not impress me that much with his mouth , he seems to run it to much and definitely needs some maturing. I'm a Browns fan so I hope he does well and gets and keeps his act together but that and seeing the Browns play good winning football again ( over .500 /playoffs) is still yet to be seen. IIRC Derek Anderson leading the Browns to a nice season and after that nothing to speak of, let us Browns fans hope it is different this time.
He had an excellent season with the only real weapon on offense being Landry and only playing 13 games. 5 of which he was hamstrung by Haley and Jackson’s ineptitude. You set a record with Rookie and 2nd year players along with a brand new OC..... You’re pretty special, the team is pretty special and they just added a legit elite WR and good defensive pices on the DL.
I have absolutely no problem with him planting the flag. He dominated during that game.
It was a spur of the moment thing, Baker was young and made a mistake, get over it. I didn't like it at the time either, but everybody including me makes bad choices, unfortunately some people never learn. Baker will take the Browns to the promise land.
As was him grabbing his crotch during a game later that year or getting intoxicated and trying to outrun police officers? I am sensing a pattern here, not one moment of youthful indiscretion.
I can't say that I ever saw JTBIII grab his junk, butg I can say for 100% proof positive that I saw him try to wiggle out of a DUI by asking the police if they know who he is. Glass houses are a bitch!
True, but he didn't run from the cops and took his suspension. Now, with Mayfield, do you recall the length of his suspension?
Was Baker Mayfield operating a vehicle intoxicated or caught running again? I seem to remember a few OSU players get disorderly conduct at the bogey inn and basically get punished during practice. But sure running and a DUI that could have resulted into injuring other people are totally the same thing
There may be unknown's but a few incidents over 23 years seems less a pattern and more a, fans who don't like him get to fuss over.
There's not a person alive who doesn't know that some things get blown way out of proportion. And then things get added on that in perspective are actually miniscule in relation to.
Didn't he have the flag stashed somewhere, then run all the way around the stadium, then run to the middle of the field and (fail to) plant it?
Doesn't sound too spur-of-the moment to me.
Now (attempted) running from those cops, that was spur-of-the moment
He can eat the cat poop
We train to fight and we fight to win.
Being a Buckeye living in Oklahoma, he is a classless douche canoe! He was classless when he was here and it has not changed. On top of that, he is an idiot (failed attempt to run from cops/failed attempt to plant flag). I don't care if he is a Brown, he's still a piece of crap.
I'd say what's more important than your bias is, how his teammates and loved ones feel about him. I do know that his teammates love him, and did in college also.
He's a POS. Always will be. Hope he gets absolutely destroyed
Good luck with that.
A POS? There's nothing that Baker has done that has lead me to believe he is a POS. Is it just because he beat Ohio State, or what leads someone to such undeserved hatred?
He’s cocky and some day that will be his downfall.
A lot of professional athletes are cocky.
Name one super bowl winning QB that was cocky.
Sorry boys, I just don’t like people who disrespect my Buckeyes. I’m a little older than most on this site I’m guessing and respect is something you will understand when you’ve been through a few battles in life.
One is literally pictured and quoted above by Baker himself.
I guess what I’m trying to say is he will never be a Manning, Brady or Elway. And remember he plays for the Browns, which means he’s cursed it is what it is. They don’t call it mistake on the lake for nothing. I’ve been around a little and can see this disaster coming, just wait.
You must be young. Google "Joe William Namath".
That’s not cocky that’s confidence, there’s a big big difference youngster.
First of all, thank you for the "youngster" bit. I can promise you I won't hear again today, or anytime soon.
Yes, Namath was confident, but given his very pedestrian career stats (even for that era), I'd say he toed the line between cocky and confident. Regardless, it was iconic.
He’s no where near an Aaron Rodgers, that’s laughable to say the least.
Kyson - The question was, name one Super Bowl winning QB who was cocky. You asked the question, I gave an answer.
Ok ok but you have to agree there’s not many.
Okay, you got me there! What's a super bowl winning qb? Is that a trick question?
You must be a Browns fan.
Sometimes I have holes in my front pockets and I feel a little cocky too. Not a big deal. Literally.
"I think Alabama would beat Ohio State if they played next weekend!" Clay Travis Fox Sports Post Championship Show 1.12.2015. Needs no explanation.
i always say...FUCK michigan
Wrong!! Andy Dalton is leading the “Ohio pro football revival” !! That’s sarcasm from a Bengals fan...
Remember folks: Cincinnati is in Ohio. Folks in the northern part of the state seem to forget that. This article should say that Mayfield is leading the Cleveland Browns pro football revival.
I’m guessing you’re an OSU fan since you’re posting on this site, but coming from an OSU/Clevelander, I think we’d like for the Nati to consider themselves more a part of Ohio, but they seem to align themselves way more with their town (and in some cases Kentucky).
“Align themselves more with Ky”?? That makes no sense but that mindset pretty much sums up the attitudes of so many people in northern OH. It’s a ridiculous notion, and we here in Cincinnati laugh at it. As much as I hate the phrase “it is what it is”, that’s about all one can say about this Northern OH state of mind. Cincy borders Ky my man! Can’t change the geography of the state. Doesn’t mean we are any less “Ohio” than any other part of the state.
That's like saying half of toledo aligns with mi. Something about them border people. Good thing I failed geography.
I think when the Cincinnati board of tourism calls themselves Cincinnati USA in their ads, that’s them saying they’re not really apart of Ohio. And we’ll gladly let you be, as you said it’s geography. More follow UK, UC & ND combined than OSU. That’s fine. The rest of Ohio will let Cincinnati do their own thing since the rest of the state has little in common with them sports wise
Just a plain idiotic comment about the Cincy tourism slogan. Not even worth discussing.
Let me get this straight: because there aren’t as many Buckeye fans in Cincy as there are in Columbus, Cleveland, etc. that means we are “less Ohio” than the rest of the state? Wow, we didn’t get the memo that northern Ohio made the decisions on who are “true Ohioans” and who aren’t. Unbelievable...
I don’t think anyone meant it as an attack, but sports wise, the city as a whole does not support OSU as much as Cbus or Cleveland, that cannot be denied. It doesn’t mean you’re not a huge fan, and I’m not challenging your fandom, but it’s much more fragmented (sports wise) in the Nati.
Yes, I’ve stated that fact many times - there are different fanbases in this city. I think it ruffles the panties of many northern Ohioans that Cincy isn’t 100% OSU fans, just like the last commentor I was replying to earlier. You seem more level-headed than that dbag so thanks for the discussion!
I think it's unfair when people bash Cincy for not being 100% OSU fans. Cincy is lucky enough to have local universities that are more than competent athletically. It makes sense that there are a bunch of UC and Xavier fans and there's absolutely nothing wrong with that. Too many OSU fans have a hard time with that concept for some reason.
Yes!! I think it’s the unhinged segment of the fanbase, which you’ll have that in essentially every group of fans.
Calm your tits guy. You’re all butt hurt that “northern Ohioans” are not that into Cincinnati. I’m a reds fan, I’m not making shit up about the Cincinnati USA ads. I really don’t care who the Cincinnati fanboys root for. Just stating a fact that most gravitate towards UK for Basketball, ND for Football and Cincinnati which is fine. It’s not like the city really follows OSU and that’s fine. So quit crying about it, if you wanna find a dbag look in the mirror.
I think I offered very valid, measured comment to your hyperbole. You have your opinion and that’s fine. No need for name calling.
Dude you have no clue what you’re talking about. Just pulling “facts” out of your arse.
So this is fake?
look douche nozzle you asked why people may not care for Cincinnati. I gave you a pretty good reason why people may not. Never questioned your OSU allegiance, just stating a fact as a city as a whole. It doesn’t really follow OSU in sports and that’s that’s fine. So how bout you quit crying about an answer you don’t like to a question you asked.
EYea, I know the tourism slogan. So that means we don’t consider ourselves part of Ohio?? Ridiculous. Don’t get butthurt because you got called out for stating completely BS “facts”. I never asked “why people may not care for Cincinnati”. Another false statement from an asshat.
“Just stating a fact that most gravitate towards UK for Basketball, ND for Football and Cincinnati”
Your “facts” are complete BS. It’s clear that you have no clue what you’re talking about. Just making up crap. Typical.
Look fucktard you clearly don’t understand. You asked why people don’t like Cincinnati. I gave you multiple examples and you argued against the facts I presented. I don’t care if you agree with the Cincinnati tourism board I was stating a fact of your city douche bag. I’d ask you how dumb are you, but you’ve proven to be retarded.
Lol this is hilarious because it says your favorite MLB team is the Cincinnati Reds lmao
It really bugs me that Ohio Stadium was the recipient of that flag-planting, but it represents everything I’ve always liked about Baker Mayfield. Dude has more than flare—it’s fire. Good luck to him next season.
"Evil shenanigans!" - Mac
This is my thinking as well. I'm a big fan of entertaining, and Baker Mayfield is entertaining. Also, if you don't like it, stop it. Ohio State did nothing on the field that night to stop it, I blame Ohio State, not Baker. Kid backs it up on the field, and at least through one NFL season, he backs in up in the NFL as well.
Count me as another Buckeye who thinks Mayfield is not worthy of a do-over. As far as leading Ohio's pro football revival, way too soon to make a claim like that. Why write an article like this that only serves to divide Buckeye nation?
This may have been mentioned but didn't he do that because our band played Carmen? We do that after every game and no other team or player has ever done that.
Yeah and he thought it was our fight song and that's why he got so riled up.
Baker Mayfield still sucks!
If Urban had never hired Bill Davis who fucked up our LBs and instead hired a competent LB coach Baker wouldnt have been in the position to be a prick in the first place.
"You're the patron saint of the totally effed" - Hot Tub Time Machine
LOL!! Who gives flying "F" about Baker because I sure as Hell don't??? Baker in college or the pro's hasn't won a national championship or superbowl, Hell he hasn't even been in the playoffs yet?? Btw if and when we meet the Sooners again we're going "plant" our foots up their asses. GO BUCKS!!!
Can't disagree with your point, but there are plenty of good QB's that did not win a national championship in NCAA, and Super Bowl in NFL. He did not for win the superbowl for the Browns, suoerbowl victories don't happen overnight. Not a Baker fan, but a winning some games for the Browns is a step forward. just stay off twitter Baker, ask Johnny Manziiez.
Forget him. Forget the NFL and thank God for astroturf. Buckeye football only and forever. There is 1 single team that represents this state rather anyone wants to admit it or not. Everyone else is just ratings for carnivores.
As a Buckeye, I hated this dude when he was a Sooner. But as a Browns fan, this guy is the truth.. it’s easy to see him as cocky and arrogant but this dude is just a cold-blooded baller and true competitor and Cleveland is very lucky to have him!
Our Honor Defend
Forgiveness to Baker, yes. Forgiveness to murderers, rapers, no.
"Age wrinkles the body, quitting wrinkles the soul" Woody Hayes
Oh brother. We all know Baker's a jackass. Just because he's a Brown doesn't make it not so. I'd repeat that no matter for whichever team he played.
He is a tool.
I’m not from Cleveland but I am a proud OSU alum . Baker Mayfield can go to hell forever
Just because he's a good quarterback doesn't mean he's not a jerk. And who would want to live in a crap state like Oklahoma?
I’ve been a life long (46 years old) Buckeye and Browns fan and admittedly was yelling and screaming at the TV that night when Baker decided to foolishly plant the OU flag at Ohio Stadium. I thought Mayfield was the best QB in his draft and thought the Browns should have drafted him @ number one. At the present time I could care less or hold any ill feelings towards Mr Mayfield. I’ve waited to long to see the Browns have a really good QB and I think they’ve found one. He’s an uber competitive dude who immaturely planted a flag after a very big win for his team. . I look forward to 8-12 years more of Baker with the Browns and many wins!
Gave you an up vote for the loser down voter who remains hidden in their sorrow. Probably the same one in favor of murderers and rapers.
ends meet mean.
Being a "Lifer " Browns Fan...seen the good ,bad and ugly. Have no problem with Baker...for the record...he never planted a flag...you can't push chump ass plastic or aluminum pole into a rubber field...and the Ohio State Football was off the field...Go Browns...Go Baker...Go Bucks
I sure hope the Browns will draft one of the Buckeye trio of receivers at some point this draft, to give the Browns another target for Baker.
OSU 2019 defense - The Twelfth Man
Mayfield went 1-1 against Ohio State and failed to plant a flag in artificial turf.
Screw this guy. He is, was and always will be a giant douche bag who deserves nothing but heartbreak.
If only you knew the POWER of the Dark Side
Not a Browns fan. Can't stand Mayfield.
That seems simple to me. Why so many DVs for non browns fans?
Boy, I got vision and the rest of the world wears bifocals! - Butch Cassidy
Still being mad at him for the flag thing is just petty at this point. The worst part about that was how dumb it is to try to plant a flag in turf. Otherwise its like having the score run up on you. If you don't like it, play better. We got smoked in that game. We don't get to complain about how our opponent handled the win. We mock other fanbases for whining about "class" when we blow them out, we should at least try to live our own standards.
As far as Baker goes, he might be a douche but there is no doubt that when he sees you as someone that is on "his team" (football or life in general) he will go to the mat for you no questions asked. And his teammates would do the same for him. And thats why he is the right guy for the Browns.
Buckeye fans are soft af.. and this is coming from a lifelong Buckeye. I was born in Columbus. I’ve been a buckeye since I could understand the game of football. I’m a buckeye now as I’m an undergrad student at our beloved university... But God forbid a true competitor whoops our our football team, which Mayfield surely did and having respect for him because of it. Getting downvoted for saying Mayfield is an ultimate competitor more than proves this. Sorry but I was a Marine in our beloved Marine Corps.. I don’t buy into this soft culture of oh we got whooped so I must hate someone for it. Respect your enemies for your enemies make you better
Thank you for your service to our country, sir.
Respect to you sir, thank you!. But no thank you needed!
Hammer meet nail
More had a problem with our game plan and QB in that game than Baker.
Respect for Mayfield as a player is one thing. I give him that. Respect for him as a person is another thing entirely. His lame excuse for what he did only made him look worse to me. But he’s young and may yet develop some character. I hope he does.
I can’t remember a similar action by a Buckeye player, but maybe someone else here can.
Thanks Coach Meyer. A new Day has dawned. Go Bucks, beat ttun!
Start with actions by a former coach of ours on the field, and see where that gets you. If Google won't help, I will.
the Browns are a legitimate potential playoff contender.
I am a Browns fan, but until they get it done on the field, I refuse to set myself up for heartbreak.
Yes, last season finished on the upswing.
Yes, this offseason has been good.
I am cautiously optimistic, and I ill believe it all when I see it actually happening on the field.
Browns are legitimate contenders, but a potential playoff team.
All it takes is 9-7 most years to make the playoffs, I think the Browns are legit contenders to be 9-7 next year. Doesn’t mean they will be obviously.
Fuck that Mothefucker but the beautifully thing is he still has a chance to win me back as I’m a Browns fan...but it would take a SB, just saying
Never forgive and never forget. Plus the browns suck too.
Ambivalent re: Mayfield. It will take divine intervention for the Browns to win a Super Bowl, let alone get there, BM notwithstanding.
Was 10 in '64 when the Browns beat the Colts 27-0. My dad recorded the game on reel-to-reel player. Indeed Cleveland fans couldn't even watch the blacked-out game lol. Who knew the misery would start the next day. Thank you LeBron et al for breaking the curse. I digress.
Whenever you find yourself on the side of the majority, it is time to pause and reflect. ~ Mark Twain
For me sports ‘hate’ isn’t real hate. In my book you can say you will always hate Mayfield for the bitch move at the Shoe without meaning anything deep. That’s the fun thing about sports. ‘hating’ sports rivals forms a harmless bond between you and your mates.
For those of us who are not Browns fans, Baker Mayfield is, and will always be, a villain.
"There is a force that makes us all brothers, no one goes his way alone." --Woody Hayes
Just so glad he is not on my NYGiants. Plus, he would never make it in NY.
In spirit, it is right next to Big John Hicks and Co. tearing down the M Club Banner in 1973. That's not to say I liked what Mayfield did, though by then I had turned off the television in disgust.
As for the tearing down of the banner, it is one of the most glorious sights I've ever witnessed. I am going to watch it again right now.
F Baker ion Saturdays.
Baker Baker Touchdown Maker on Sundays.
OH-IO living in SEC! SEC! Ville
F*^% Baker Mayfield tbh
- Me + Every Other Bengals Fan
The Browns have been so bad, for so long, I’m just glad that they are now at a point where they are worth hating. The Browns have holes that have to be filled if they want to reach their potential, but it’s so much more fun when opposing fans “hate” my favorite team.
I predict that last season was a career year for Mr. Mayfield, a situation where nobody knew of him or really were ready for him, a period where he had little time to think about where he was and what he was doing. His ego and douchness will bring him down in rapid fashion, he will not repeat the success of his rookie season again and in three years is out of the NFL. So let it be said, so let it be done.
Don't you need to take the trash out?
Put your vision on the mantle then in 3 years, take it out with the rest of the trash.
No way, Baker is the real deal.
Yeah, no. Dude could save my mom from a burning house. I’d shake his head and then tell him to get the hell off my land.
It’s pronounced “Thee”.
Hell no. Guy is a huge choad and as a Cincinnati native and fan of the local teams it actually brigs me joy knowing that Browns fans have to embrace this ass wipe and like him.
All the jokes and hot takes on here about his arrest video and the fact he wasn't athletic enough to outrun an average cop. The attempted flag planting. Same people talking that shit are now tagging him as the savior. He disrespected the alma mater in a big way and that's not forgivable.
Cant wait to see him go down in flames, will bring me much joy.
OSU loyalty before pros any day. shameful take on an OSU website
And 100% of Bengal fans would trade Dalton for Baker in a heart beat, what's your point?
Maybe if he does something that Andy hasn't. Andy has led us to 5 playoff berths. Let him do something first!
How many of those playoff appearances have a 1st round win?
Cleveland is an expansion team, how many playoff births do they have in their history since 1997?
How many Super Bowls? -0

The Browns have won a playoff game more recently than the Bengals....................
Your exactly right!
Yea, I would trade Dalton for just about anyone at this point, so that's not saying much. April fools joke was the Bengals signed Kaep and I got excited if that tells you anything.
Baker looks like an out of shape accountant who lost his razor. Lets see how he progresses in year 2 and with expectations, thats a much different animal.
as a fan of a team that employed vontaze burfict for seven seasons i don't know that i really have the stones personally to get upset about the past sins of one baker mayfield in the year of our lord two thousand and nineteen
i think he's awesome and hope he brings the browns success, because he's fun and cool
“Ohio’s pro football revival”? Last time I checked, there were two teams in Ohio, and the other has shown flashes of competency now and then.
I understand the excitement Browns fans have. But this year may or may not be better than last year. The NFL is tough on rookie head coaches, and nobody is going to take the Browns as lightly as they may have in the past. That, and they won’t have one of the easiest schedules since their record was much better.
No, there’s an Ohio team, and a northern Kentucky team
Cleveland used to be southern Michigan, ask Dez and Woodson!
Haha. The only insult a Clevelander can ever muster. Bunch of sad sacks...
Screw michigan, screw baker, screw the browns.....yep, in that order
The pain of discipline or the pain of regret, take your pick
Forgive, Mayfield? Nope. Forget? Nope.
When the underdog rubs it in your face it feels bad but it is a great motivator. By going out to there house and beating them as an underdog it kind of lights the fire. Revenge is a great motivator, ask Woody.
...sometimes. Ask Chase.
Not a Browns fan but being a pro fan and a college fan requires separating the two. Do folks really not root for certain pro players on their chosen pro team, when they score, just because of their school? Name on the front of the jersey, not the back.
Mayfield is the type of player you hate when he's not playing for your team but you LOVE him when he does.
He had one decent half season, you think he is the savior, history says he is an Idiot and that was a fluke! He was a total dumbass when he played for Oklahomie and he is a total dumbass now, just because the Browns drafted him don't make him anything different. bunch of Judists!
All of them flavors, but so many of you decide you want to be salty.
Blame Ohio State’s defense, not Baker.
OK now you are on first name basis with him?? WTF you would sell your own mother for an NFL team.
I'm not sure what this means, but yes, I would sell my own mother to have the Cleveland Browns back if they weren't currently in Cleveland...she would understand.
you prob wear your Cleveland Browns Jersey to work too, lol. What are you 8 yrs old?
Settle down Bob
Message to staff-this is a Buckeyes site, not a Browns fans by proxy site.
Post removed for violating common sense rules.
Wrong website. Buckeye fans don’t care about Baker Mayfield, or want to read an article about forgiving him for being a douche bag. He doesn’t play the Buckeyes this year, and in fact, he never will play college football again. Surely you can find something more relevant than a two year old story to write about for Buckeye fans.
You win with people.
And so forth...
9 Units Strong!
Mayfield is a punk and will always be a punk. Downvote me to Hell and gone, I don't even care.
I aim to misbehave.
Being a cowboys fan I embraced Owens after he disrespected the star.....of course he paid for it too. It's too bad Baker didn't get the same.
Noon games suck
I think folks are being too hard on BM. He IS the Browns. The underdog. The adversity. Even the boneheaded growing pains and history of stupid decisions.
He is so Browns and the Browns are so BM. I wish them both success.
He can make 'amends' to Ohio with a Super Bowl Victory!
I am great at compartmentalizing... On the one hand, I will never forgive BM for trying to "plant" the flag regardless. However, as a long suffering Browns fan, I will be rooting for huge things from him and for the Browns. I can separate the two without issue. Similar to LeBron. I am rooting for him, he has done great things for Cleveland area, however, I hope the Lakers lose every game which effectively hurts LeBron.
