Apart from a very inconsistent and poor performance against TCU, I think Mack had the best hands on the team.  Certainly best of those returning.  I see this being a big year for him.

I think that TCU game was just some sort of odd anomaly but I give the coaching staff credit for not giving up on him.

As long as we don't see a performance like that again, I have no reason to believe Austin Mack isn't more than capable of making a difference in the WR group. I'm excited to see him end his campaign as a Buckeye on a high note.

Urban Meyer left an incredible legacy. 12/4/18 Ryan Day begins his.

Thanks Pastor. I had said the same about Mack and then that game happened. I jinxed him. Prior it seems he made some great catches, particularly on the outside/sideline. Here’s to him having a great season!

No way.  KJ Hill and it's not close.

It was frustrating to see the drops at TCU, knowing he pulls it in, and put Haskins on the stage.

The catch he made was remarkable. The drops that followed were baffling. He should be fine this year.

I always thought Mack would turn into a good player. Still think he can be very productive this year.

Also this article begs the question, does anyone know what the primary differences are between the "X" and "Z" receiver positions? Obviously there are enough to make it sound like there is a learning curve and can't simply be picked up from one position to the other.

Someone with far more football knowledge than I can probably answer it better, but one of them (Z?) usually lines up split out alone on his side of the field, while the other usually lines up on the side with the H or slot receiver, or even in "triplets." That results in different routes as a receiver, and different blocking responsibilities.

That's two back-to-back articles on key guys (Bowen and Mack) that will be huge in providing leadership and inspiration in bouncing back from respective injuries.

Not about how you start, but how you finish...rooting for you, Austin Mack.

Writing those back-to-back honestly wasn't even intentional, but I did realize while writing the Mack story that there are a lot of similarities between his story and Bowen's story.

Definitely a great story, for both, in seeing them bounce back with vigor this offseason.

Appreciate the reads, DH.

We will see what Austin Mack does when football gets real this fall.

He has potential.

Day + Hartline + work ethic = success for Mack! This will be his year to shine, he’ll have opportunity. Just look the ball in big fella!!

Welcome back, Austin Mack! I am hoping you return with a bang! Make up for what you lost last year!

I'd rather be an hour early than a minute late.

That's some quality camera work by 11W.  Much better than the usual fare, with Bill Landis, Austin Ward, or Tim May in the background.

Wait...Austin Mack was in the video?

hmmm... a tad too much 'me' in Mack's word choices... but that's only as natural, as what Day's bunch are not aiming toward.

speaking of 'focus'...

watch Mack's eye contract the entire 1:19 video.  He looks at each questioner during his response, and does a couple room sweeps in between.

mean-while... 3 hair flips... one eyelash flutter...two sultry smiles with the head slightly down and eyes up...  were 'happening'... on his left side... to no evident verbal or non-verbal response.

===>who was it who was posting about "more focus" recently ?!  ;-{)}

In that example of 'focus'... i saw zero drops 'in traffic'...

I swear I watched that video and didn't even notice Austin Mack was there until the last 6 seconds.

Is it just me or did anyone else watch Austin Mack's video a second time? I lost track of thought for some reason...

Perhaps it was someone to his right that kept distracted me ;)

It is time!!!!!

I hope that everyone is adjusting their expectations for the number of catches that both Mack and the rest of our receivers make this year. Last year, we had nine guys with 20 catches or more, with Parris leading the way with 90. With a more run-friendly QB, I just don't see that prolific of a passing game this year, though I think it could still be potent. Put it this way: Kyler Murray completed 260 passes last year compared to Haskin's 373. I think we're looking at completion numbers closer to Murray's and, for some, it may look like a drop-off and, maybe, a disappointment. To me, it's a normalizing of the offense.

For me, if normalizing the offense reduces the number of pass attempts and completions, while also utilizing more the traditional X and Z positions, I’m all for it.  Dawn of a new Day (pun intended), I’m here for it!

Love this kid.  Love his attitude.

As far as I'm concerned, he's ALREADY  made a huge difference on this team in some very key moments, none more important than THE CATCH in double coverage against the skunk weasels in 2017.  If that's all he ever does, it will be enough for me.

Looking forward to him having an awesome 2019 season.

Hopefully Mack can be the leader along with KJ in the room, especially with all the young talent we have at receiver... some big shoes to fill after last years senior guys as the leader, but I would like to see Mack put it together on the field, stay healthy, limit drops, show the young bucks how to play WR at tOSU... hoping for him to have a big year
