After Late Emergence As A Power 5 Offensive Tackle Prospect, Dawand Jones Comes to Ohio State As “An Untapped Potential Star”

I'm blown away at how athletic this kid is for his size, and pretty quick. Can't wait to see what a season of Coach Mick's conditioning does for him. If he commits to the strength and conditioning like a true slob, this kid's the next Orlando Pace.

Would love to see him come in around 330 and a bit lighter on his feet. Learn for a year or two and earn his stripes then really start to compete for big boy playing time.

Players like Dawand Jones prove that recruiting is much more than just star rankings. If he learns the fundamentals better and develops and learns behind guys like Munford and NPF, he could be a starter and leader by his 3rd or 4th year in the program, and when he's shown to be one of the best players on the offense, his recruiting ranking will be pointless.

Davis has the potential to be great at OSU.  He has great feet already and if he can slim down some, watch out!  He's going to be a force at one of the Tackle positions.

Watched Dawand's highlights, man, that's not fair. He looks like a NFLer playing against high school freshmen !

Indiana doesn’t have the greatest high school football, but the conference he played in is legit. That conference has produced 18 of the last 19 big school state champions. He played against the best competition in the state for what its worth.

He's an impressive athlete, no question. Let's have him show up and have a few practices before we anoint him, but no question what he brings on tape looks very promising.

Urban Meyer left an incredible legacy. 12/4/18 Ryan Day begins his.

3 stars? This guy could be Orlando Pace.

Orlando Pace was a great high school basketball player as well. While that does not guarantee a HOF career, the parallel is there. Here is an excerpt from the Indy Star about his last game:

I am not sure if we will ever see an athlete quite like Jones, a 6-8, 350-pound combination of brute force and exceptional athleticism. His future might be as a football offensive tackle, a position he will play at Ohio State. But man, what a basketball player.

Winning is a habit. Unfortunately, so is losing.

Do we really want this kind of kid in our program? Go BUCKEYES!

If he wants to lose weight quick and help himself out on the football field he should go in and train with the wrestling team. We have a heavyweight (Chase Singletary) that is undersized and needs to wrestle against someone that is enormous like Dawand. He would lose 30 lbs in a matter of months and I understand he is pretty athletic being a basketball player, but the amount of leverage he would gain if he trained with the wrestling heavyweights would be astronomical and it would help him out tremendously on the gridiron.

Dawand, if you are reading this, go talk to coach Ryan and it will be the best thing you could do to help your career out other than training with LeCharles Bentley.

That's how winners play. We convince the other guy he's making all the right moves.

there's one comment so far that is an anomaly - "getting tired of hearing me push conditioning" from his HS coach.

OTOH, there are several comments that raise expectations...

and the rather obvious "you can't teach size".  ;-{)}

Jawand's in a no-man's land now, since he isn't in spring practice.  Would be very helpful if he chose to come to campus early this summer.  Until then... it's hard to 'great leap forward' in consistently high motivation and effort... with encouraging teammates still at a distance.  Substantive and responsive contact with the staff will be... vital.

Welcome, Jawand!

It's... Dawand.  Not Jawand.

He's a "planet theory" guy. Not many like him on the planet. Will he develop into an OT? If he wants it bad enough.... Show us what's in the Fridge!!!

I get the comparison to Pace from a size standpoint (and also playing hoops), but the Pancake Man was a generational talent who came in well versed from a technical standpoint.

I'm not saying Jones doesn't develop into a top tackle in time, but it may take a season or two for him to grow (no pun) into that...where Pace came in at day one.

I could be wrong but other than his hands being on the shoulder pads during his pass blocking, he looks pretty sound.

I am not mad about this, at all.

I think he's gonna be an eligible TE in a three tackle set.

Umm. Errrr. Diiii... Did anyone else notice they had him pull, as the off play tackle on a sweep, more than once in those highlights?! At 360 lbs., that's blazing. People pull a tackle for traps inside, but a sweep?! That right there bought a recruitment.

I love competitive dudes. This dude seems like a competitive dude. Doesnt matter the sport... i'm gonna try and win. Love guys like this. As much as you have to have the 4 and 5 star guys to be great, imo you HAVE to have guys like Jones around.

You're giving a kid big shoes to fill comparing him to Orlando Pace. A lot of size and talent there but highlight videos are usually when you're beating up on a future short order cook. A lot of potential there, it will be fascinating to see how the young man develops himself.

Q: What is the difference between the Michigan Football Team and a bag of crap. A: The Bag.

Holy Guacamole, this dude is huge. He's like a human battering ram. No one can stand in his way. He moves quickly too, for a guy that large.

Glad to have him on the Good Guys' side. Welcome to the family, Dashawn.
