A guard that averages 9 rebounds a game? I don't care what conference you play in, that's impressive.
That's what stood out to me. tOSU doesn't really need another G body, imo, but another effective body in the paint would be useful.
This guy's numbers against good competition are bad, and his shooting percentages fell off a cliff this past season.
Unless we know that a wing or two is leaving, I have to say "no thanks." I can't imagine we'd be his final pick, anyways, he's gonna want to go somewhere where he knows he is about guaranteed to start.
the empire never ended
His free throw shooting dropped considerably this season, in fact strangely so. But his FG % seems to be 45 - 50%. His assists also went up a lot this season.
This guy's numbers . . .
. . . that are missing in the article: 6'7", 202.
So Pierce is a wing who shoots well (14.9 PPG), rebounds well (8.9) and dished 4.1 assists against 2.2 turnovers per game.
Our honor defend, so we'll fight to the end !
That was a pretty glaring omission from the article. Thanks for looking it up for us. I wasn't that thrilled when I saw 'guard' in the headline, but 6'7" makes me considerably more enthusiastic about the prospect. Still not sure if I'd take him over the 7' guy, but that's why the staff gets the big $$ and I don't.

I'd rather have the 7'er that visited last week.Need another big man
MICHIGAN STILL SUCKS
guessing OSU could get both. wink, wink...
16-2 is SWEET!
I am thinking that LSU promised him he'd be the next Shaq. But Pitt was talking as if he was a lock. The gradvtransfer market is ruthless, according to Matta. So Holtmann has to jump sooner than later to fill the spot. Offering a gradvtransfer who already has 15 schools interested in him is just keeping things honest.
That 7 footer is a project at the college level, who will not be immediate help except for maybe a practice body.
Would work if the program had more depth, but this program needs immediate help.
Grad transfer who is already seasoned would be a better fit considering the point in the program development that Ohio State finds itself.
In old Ohio there's a team that's known throughout the land...
Does anyone know if we have any big men in the next 2-3 years that we're recruiting? I couldn't find anything, which seems like it could be a glaring hole.
Well any good coach builds their roster for tournament play that favors guards and wings.
Damn he’d be a monster guy. Be the perfect wing player that we seem to be lacking this year and next year. A guy that can be a go to scorer from 3 or drive and slash. This guy would make us scary good. But a lot of competition for him though so not too confident we can get him. Definitely say make him the priority over a recruit for this year. That way we can have two scholarships for next year instead of only one. It’s better when your scholarships are more spread out I believe so there’s always some senior leadership.
So does this mean we don’t have a shot with Diallo?
If you die before you die, then you won't die when you die.
No. It’s just a possible option.
Damn it, I want the big guy!
I don't buy one goddam drop of gas in the state of Michigan!
I want Ibrahima Diallo. He liked his visit to OSU and will make his decision soon. Competition is Pitt, DePaul, Florida State. and South Florida. I like that the kid is raw and very athletic. He was a soccer player who just outgrew the game. Story reminds me of Hakeem Olajuwon. That worked out.
This athletic 7' Center who also plays Soccer has narrowed it to 2. The Ohio State University and Pittsburgh. We should be smart and realize 5 guards can't play at the same time and win. We need balance and strength. Both are missing.
Get a big or bank the schollie...
That’s the point of a grad transfer, it’s a one year rental. If Diallo doesn’t work out, you can try to get an experienced guy without tying up the scholarship for more than one season.
My bad... saw he played 10m his Freshman year so thought he had 2 years left since he will graduate in 3 years. Looks like that's 10 per game...
Still though we've got enough wings imo.. Dakich made sense because we had no depth..
if we can't land Diallo there's got to be a 6'10'ish grad transfer out there that can play minutes inside... Don't know why we struggle finding serviceable bigs but we do... for like... forever..
Since I tweeted this out two hours ago, Justin Pierce has heard from AZ, ND, Ohio St., NW, Illinois, BC, Stanford, USC, Michigan, Wisconsin., Butler, Gonzaga, Ga Tech, DePaul, Nevada and Ole Miss.
So basically everyone’s interested in him.
I dunno. Guy who scored 15 ppg on a terrible mid-major team? I’d rather invest in 1) height and 2) youth but a one-and-done would allow Holtmann a chance to free up a scholarship for 2020.

"...but a one-and-done would allow Holtmann a chance to free up a scholarship for 2020."
Yeah, can't say I'm all in on another grad xfer at guard, but could be a solid piece to the puzzle.
I'm not around that much, running exhausted and lost...
I trust Holtman and his staff to make the correct decision.
I’m thinking...weird...ok...wait...I’m still thinking...
"Age wrinkles the body, quitting wrinkles the soul" Woody Hayes
Possible potion, but much rather prefer Diallo.
Hope the big guy is in play. Need another player with height. But regardless, next year shows more promise!
Beat everyone, in every sport, all the time!!!
Definitely question this because we already have so many guys who play wing, unless Holt is expecting a transfer or 2.
Dre, Ahrens, Musa, Alonzo, and EJ. Then add a grad transfer when we need help underneath...unless they feel like LeDee will come along as a guy who can spare Kaleb some???
I trust Holtmann though..
We need a big guy, not another wing. Young is not a true 5, he is a 4, who can shoot if given the opportunity. I saw his high school film and he was a good shooter who handled the call well. Need somebody to back up Kaleb. And if Andre is a 4 I am 7’. I’m only 5’7”. Get Dallo.
Jack L Frysinger
Bucks need bigs who can play.
It's not like WE get to pick, if the Center is not an option there's no reason not to look at one year players to fill out the team.
Exactly. It’s just an option. He JUST put his name in the portal so we will know about soon about the big guy WAY before we look into the grad transfer. No reason for folks to hit the panic button
"I want"... [deleted as irrelevant].
Enjoying the discussion about the various team 'needs' posters perceive, especially the posts which include how this next guy would fit in with our veterans and 3 signees.
We need SOMEBODY that is over 6' 9" for goodness sake...Please somebody find a center.
Indiana's stock is falling. Just lost out on a 5 star forward. MSU also swung and missed on the same. I tthink Holtmann wise to stick with a grad transfer for next year. The grad market is like going to one of those mythical car auctions spnsored by the police for seized vehicles. Got a feeling Holtmann will bank the schollie. Save it for 2020. Not the last we hear of him pursuing a grad transfer.
We need better bag men for the basketball team.
I understand people saying they want diallo because center is a clear position of need. But understand, diallo is a project who isn't going to be major college ready for at least a couple of years.
not sure I get this grad transfer offer unless we think someone is transferring (jallow?) and the two frosh are going to be playing at the 4 and 5 next year (something that I think is a reasonable possibility).
But understand, Diallo is a project who isn't going to be major college ready for at least a couple of years.
Lou Holtz coached football at William and Mary. He did not enjoy his time there. He said that the problem was he had to many Mary's and not enough William's.
Hey Cancer! This ass kicking is brought to you by the Guernsey county mafia. Give it Hell 84!
I'd prefer another big, but if you want a wing, Ben Roderick will be in the spotlight at the state tournament next week. Jallow could benefit from a redshirt year.
Winning is a habit. Unfortunately, so is losing.
I like Roderick...but you don't bring in 3 wing/forwards in the same class...the only reason for looking at a grad transfer is it brings in immediate "senior leadership" which we will only have one next year in Andre. Also, it only uses a scholly for one year.
As for Jallow needing a redshirt year...no one gets redshirted their junior year after they have played both as a freshman and a sophomore. That doesn't happen unless there is injury involved.
the redshirt still counts as a scholarship
Mid-career redshirts (without injury) are rare, but they do happen. However, I wonder if a transfer is more likely in this case.
Obviously the OSU staff knows more about Pierce than I do, but my initial thought is that if you're a Big Ten-caliber forward playing in the Colonial Conference and you're not even the best player on your team, that team ought to be doing better than a 14-17 record that got its coach fired.
The most "loud mouth, disrespect" poster on 11W.
NO NO NO NO NO
BIG BIG BIG BIG
Is what needed
I understand he is a probably a red shirt candidate but I hope Roderick Johnson finds a way in the class.
Diallo is a long term project. This kid could help next year. People who say we have to many wings...Really. Can you have to many guys who can shoot, rebound, and pass? It's a one year deal.
I doubt we get this kid, but to say we couldn't use him his crazy.
I think getting both players is still alive, but you have to be one of the first to let a grad transfer know that you are interested. Then most importantly you have to get him on campus and show him how you see him fitting in. And what kind of team you are going to have next year-pretty good in osu's case. With the way bb players transfer, it's not unlikely one or two players leave this year. H. has been having those discussions all year long with his minute-less players, he has an idea of what they are thinking, and they know what they are up against minutes wise next year. H. hasn't shown a willingness to redshirt, so it's doubtful he'd redshirt a 7 footer either, but he'd be invaluable as a defender and rebounder, you can be raw and still do those things easily.
I want Ben Roderick from Olentangy
"How Firm Thy Friendship, O-HI-O"
I agree with others, I say either save the scholarship for next year or bring in Roderick from Olentangy Liberty... he's legit.
He’s legit but we don’t need another 6-5 combo player.
So much for Ben Roderick being offered smh.
