Four Teams Ohio State Fans Should Root for This Weekend to Improve the Buckeyes' NCAA Tournament Standing

Buffalo should be on this list as well. If they lose then the MAC is getting two teams in.

It would be a huge upset if Buffalo loses. You are right though.

HS

Not that huge. BG already beat them once. Buffalo was tested yesterday

HS
ScarletGray43157's picture

.Hard to beat the same team three times in one season is my point, but you are correct.  If Buffalo is not sharp they could fall to BG again.

Once Holtmann gets a roster full of his guys, they should be a next level type of team, they have shown flashes, but aren't quite there yet.. definitely on the right track!

I think we are in...even if we drop to a 12 seed.  I think we showed ourselves to play with MSU who is a 2 seed..

who knows though.

Just a hunch:  no matter what happens the rest of this weekend, we’re in, but we’re going to be in one of the play-in games in Dayton.  The NCAA is going to want as big a crowd as possible for those games.  Don’t be upset when it happens.

HS

The argument that team gets in or seeded somewhere based on ratings for basketball, football, or any sport is dumb. If that was the case, OSU would be in the football playoff every year. If that was the case, Matta’s second to last team would’ve snuck in and played in Dayton. The basketball tourney is very clear and transparent. That’s why guys like Lundardi can be very accurate predicting who gets in and at what seed. That’s why year in and year out, there’s very few surprises. It’s typically pretty obvious what your record will get you. And this year, it’s pretty obvious that unless something crazy happens like all the above teams we want to win lose, we will be an 11 seed and not the first four.

Would be fun, I think.

This shows a pretty big lack of understanding on how the process works. Even if they manipulated the seeding based on attendance (they don’t), they’d prioritize a bigger stadium over the Dayton games that no one cares about.

HS

So Duke playing the vast majority of its early tournament games in NC is the luck of the draw? (Saw where someone posted that this year there are no early round games in NC). Also, the NCAA is quite transparent. They openly admit to putting teams in geographical areas to maximize attendance. Although not on a team's home floor.

HS

You’re talking about something entirely different. Top seeds get a geographical advantage. That’s always been the policy. OP is suggesting they’d bump us down a few seed lines in order to garner interest in a First Round game that approximately two dozen people actually watch.

HS

Wouldn’t say that the playin games in Dayton have two dozen people watching. Dayton basketball fans actually have a decent turnout for those games. They could fill the arena if the Buckeyes played there. I do agree though that the NCAA wouldn’t intentionally drop them into the playin round if they deserved a higher seed. Although, I cant recall how the committee determines who plays in those games. It isn’t the four #16 seeds, but might be the last four non-conference champions put into the field of 68.

Great article. Rooting for Auburn means rooting for Bruce Pearl; I'm not sure my house has enough hot water for me to get clean after that.

Work to do

Ohio State Buckeyes

At best, Ohio State ended its conference tournament run at a time when the committee was listing it as one of the last four byes in the field. At worst, the Buckeyes were something closer to the last team in the field, period. You're not on the committee and neither is Bubble Watch, so we don't know where in that range OSU was located when the team lost 77-70 to Michigan State in the Big Ten tournament quarterfinals. If the former is closer to correct, Ohio State has a good shot at staying in the field of 68. If, on the other hand, the latter scenario is closer to the truth, then Chris Holtmann's team is in trouble. Being the last team in the field before VCU fell in the Atlantic 10 tournament (very likely taking an at-large bid off the table) means, effectively, you're no longer in the field. The Buckeyes will wait until Sunday to find out which of these two assumptions is valid. (Updated: March 15)

Three Auburn players just practically assaulted a Florida player attempting a game-tying three. No call from the SEC refs. Auburn wins, which I'm told is good for OSU.

I have a question for most of you guru's who are plugged into the local scene in Cbus... Is Holt even looking at Ben Roderick from Olentangy Lib?  I've read where hes a diehard Buckeye.  I'm tired of watching the whole state up north come in our backyard and take our talent and come back and beat us with that talent.

Yes, Roderick is on the radar for sure but if Holt signs the big guy Diallo, who was in for visit last week, then he is out of scholarships.....unless a current underclassman leaves.

HS
Fuzzbuck's picture

And yes... I am sick of talent going north also....Ward, Simpson, Teske just to name the current ones up north.

HS
BuckminsterFullback's picture

I recall that Teske and Micah Potter faced each other in high school, and Potter outplayed Teske (not by a wide margin, but Potter had more points and rebounds). Yet Teske has been a far better player in college.

Recruiting will never be an exact science.

Three things cannot be long hidden: the sun, the moon, and the truth.

To those talking about talent going up north...which one...Carton, Gaffney or Liddell would you get rid of to bring in Roderick?

Can you seriously shut the hell up with that crap? This isn’t even a football related article and you still have to show your ass. If you going to be a grade A douche post somewhere else, the shit gets old.

3 of the 4 so far. Come on Huskies, make it a perfect 4 for 4.

Good news for the Buckeyes over the last 30 hours or so:

1. Xavier and WVU lost in the semis of their conference tourneys. Both were potential bid stealers if they won their respective tourneys.

2. Utah State beat San Diego State in their tourney final. SDSU was a potential bid stealer.

3. The AAC held serve w/Cincy and Houston both winning.

4. 3 other bubble teams lost: Temple, Arizona State, and Florida.

5. Buffalo beat Bowling Green, who would have stolen a bid.

Bad news

1. Oregon is currently beating Washington by 1 pt in the 1st half.

2. That is all.

I play, coach stays. He goes, I go.

Washington getting blown out

Pac 12 is sooo bad. Washington lost to every tournament team they played in the non conference including Minnesota.. Mad they are going to get 3 teams in that joke of a league.

HS
Fuzzbuck's picture

The talent going north and doing well is about past recruiting classes and misses....nothing to do with the 19 class. Would not trade Gaffney, Liddell, or Carton for Roderick, but he is on the staff's radar as is Diallo and now apparently a grad transfer.
Point being...Gaffney COULD have been another had program direction remained the same.

In the end the committee will do what they will do, but I hope things go well and the Bucks make it in.
