Iowa St. and Miss. St. would be very winnable games in my opinion, where as Villanova and Auburn are very bad matchups for this team. Honestly, an 11 seed is about perfect unless you’re able to be a 6 seed or better. You get a likely winnable game against a team that is usually capable but vulnerable, and you avoid the potential early matchup against a 1 or 2 seed. I’d rather them be an 11 than a 10.
Definitely would agree Iowa state and miss state are preferred. Auburn would be the worst matchup for us with their fast pace and really good defensive guards. And I’d be afraid of jay Wright’s coaching although their team isn’t all that talented this year. Miss state I think would be the best matchup because howland really underachieves usually with the talent he’s got.
And great point on the seeding I want nothing to do with a one or two seed if we are fortunate to get in the next round. There are like 6 teams that are clearly better than the rest and would kill us. 3 seed we still have a slim shot of pulling something crazy off.
Let's not forget that Holtmann has a pretty good track record against Jay Wright. Beat a better Villanova team than this one twice his last season at Butler (though that Butler team was certainly better than this OSU team).
I think Iowa St and Auburn would actually be the two worst match-ups out of these projections.
the empire never ended
I will just be happy if they make it to the dance. Don’t care where or against whom.
An NCAA bid would be good and a boon for recruiting, i.e., "Holtmann's OSU teams have gone to the NCAA tournament each year."
But KPI Sports has Ohio State in the NIT as a #1 seed (3rd overall).
So we are waiting and hoping.
Our honor defend, so we'll fight to the end !
There is literally no possible way we not only don't get a 11, a 12, or a play in 12, but then are the 3rd best team in the NIT sorry

Interesting. Have you read this 11W post?
I think what he is saying is if we are an “11 Seed” at large in the NCAA Tourney and somehow get bumped...why would we be #3 team overall in NIT...where are the other two?
KPI Sports has Florida and Oregon as higher #1 seeds (than OSU) in the NIT.
But . . .
CBS has OSU as the 3rd #11 seed in the NCAAT, implying that 6 other teams would have to grab spots to displace OSU from a #11 seed or a #12 seed. Which seems unlikely at this point. I assume here that the current #12 seeds would be pushed to #13 seeds, but that may be wrong.
It’s all speculation and something to create conversation. It’s all over the board
Yeah that’s a stupid ranking site then. Never heard of it. No way is Oregon in front of us in the Nit let alone the tournament unless they win the pac 12.
CBSSports also has Oregon & Florida ahead of OSU now in the NCAAT, where the Buckeyes are in a play-in game.
Mississippi State in Des Moines: party at my house!

Sounds Iike a plan! I’ll bring buffalo chicken dip and plenty of fun juice!
I think those are all winnable matchups, but of course none of those will be the real one. It would be fun to knock that slime ball Bruce Pearl out again though. I think Iowa State is the most dangerous team of that group though. When they are locked in they can beat anyone, and if they beat KU in the B12 finals, which I think they will, they will probably be getting a better seed than 6.
They'll play a 10:30 PM EDT game in a West Bracket, get blown out and we can focus (again) on Spring Ball.
Not what I want to see, but what I expect to see.
OH-IO living in SEC! SEC! Ville
I agree. I don't understand what all the fuss is about. Extending your season by one game isn't all that exciting. Maybe I'd feel different if I thought that they had even a remote chance of winning the tournament.
Gentlemen, you can't fight in here, its a war room
Recruiting is one reason. Kids want to play in the BIg Dance. This is how you measure your programs success. Just about anybody can win 20 games.
MICHIGAN STILL SUCKS
TG Proud Buckeye alumnus.
Agree to a point. No one wants the team they are considering playing for get destroyed in the first game.
1030pm game time
Play one and done
3 words for you- Do not watch.
Every bit of organized, supervised by coaches is a plus. That is why teams want pretty much any bowl game they can get with football. And as noted above it is a plus for recruiting.
I don't buy one goddam drop of gas in the state of Michigan!
Why is everyone upset that we are making the tourney? Are they likely to win it all? No, but the negative attitudes get old.
Look @ Villanova a couple years ago they got hot right before the tourney and won it all. Why not us?the tourney favors guard/wing heavy teamss with athletic length. Exactly like Coach is building this roster.
If we manage to put together a couple of games like we did against Iowa we could see a Sweet 16 and that would be spectacular.
If you die before you die, then you won't die when you die.
Why are fans upset we go to the dance?
Because some of our fan base is unbearable at times. Downright unbearable
Expectations are a fools game. March madness!
Last time v Iowa State worked out pretty well, lets do that again.
ONE Not Done!
Last couple of times. Not just Craft’s dagger in the NCAA but Ohio State’s 1-0 in Des Moines’s Wells Fargo Arena, having beaten Iowa State there 70-67 in 2005-06.
Have a tough time believing they would allow a 6 seed play so close to home.
It’s all based off what Ian best for the three seed.
11 Seed. I will take it!!
If we get 11 seed, can you get me tickets?
Thank you for your support to tOSU! Honestly, we are are grateful to fans like you that follow the program and spend their hard earned money to now feel like they are a part of a wonderful institution much later in their lives.
Can you get me free tickets? I’m going to follow your footsteps and only go to games when I can get free tickets
BucksHave7 and Bucks19, I kindly request that you two refrain from replying to each other.
If you notice, you have both now continued arguments across different threads and different dates, in this case bringing the argument into a different thread.
When you two comment back and forth like this, it gets tiresome to others and isn’t in the spirit of the site or the commenting policy.
Calpoppy: take a look at him following me around and replying to every post I make here.
Outside of Villanova, I also see winnable games.
You forget that Holtman has owned Jay Wright and Villanova!!
It’s not that they can’t win. I was trying to not overstate that Ohio State is better than the others seeded higher.
All things considered I think we should be happy with an 11 seed against anyone.
Making the Dance and getting experience at least one more game. Lers do it.
If they make it to jax I might make the trip up from Tampa bay.
First year using this site so dont know the accuracy but they have us comfortably out of the field. Odds have gone from 7%last week to 4% yesterday to .4% today. Are the mid majors going to eat up more at-large bids as this model suggests?
Never heard of this site...I would tend to look at the prominent bracketologists.
Going into the Indiana game, everyone said the winners chances to make the tourney would be increased by 80%. I struggle to believe they have changed that much.
I agree, just thought id share another viewpoint. Personally, combining all the bracketologists and models, id put our odds around 80% or more but its not a sure thing
NIT would the best tournament, because of the chance to play more winnable games and gain more playing time.
Going 0-1 on the tournament that actually matters is 1000% better than doing anything in the NIT.
I don’t think so.
“Save yourself and relax during every game. I recommend a fine bourbon.”
this team Is just as capable getting bounced 1st game of the NIT as it is getting bounced in the NCAA. No thanks, Holtman can explain getting bounced by an NCAA tourney much easier to recruits than how we lost to FIU in the NIT. He inherited a roster without any point guards, or any shooters, except one. Pulled CJ and Dakic out his ass somehow.
“NIT would the best tournament, because of the chance to play more winnable games and gain more playing time.”
Downright pathetic take. NOBODY wants an NIT bid nooooooooobody.
There is definitely something to be said for a young team like the Buckeyes getting a chance to play more games in a tournament setting. Losing a first round game by 15 or so points in the NCAA trny or making a run in the NIT, I could see the run in the NIT paying more benefits.
always better to play in NCAA than NIT no matter outcome, especially for recruiting but also to keep getting younger pups good competition to get better, winning more games in NIT against weaker competition does nothing and no one(recruits) watches
Don’t know if we’d win any of those but I definitely would Be happy to get in.
Every time they have played a quality opponent, they have come up short (save for the two outliers).
Sounds a lot like ,,, um, the Buckeyes.
USA Today is out of its mind, because there's no way Auburn is going to be a #6 seed. All of those matchups are potentially winnable, though. I assume Villanova has improved some since they lost to Furman, but there's also the fact that they did lose to Furman.
The most "loud mouth, disrespect" poster on 11W.
We won't be beating anybody if KW fouls out with ten minutes left in the game.
Onward and upward! Go Buckeyes!
That's right. Kaleb must have better awareness knowing the other team is trying to set him up for cheap fouls.
Also, if a foul is called on him and he gets that look on his face, that frustrated look we all know, Holtmann must get him out of the game right away. Even if its only for a couple of minutes. Bring in LeDee. Let Kaleb calm down and get his focus back.
We've seen too many times where the fouls come in bunches for Kaleb, and he's too important to this team to be in foul trouble. It's not worth leaving him in the game regardless of how bad the matchups might be or how the game is going. Also, we have to run the offense better when Kaleb is out of the game.
I'd rather be a minute early than an hour early, 'cause I like to procrastinate.
Ledee hasn't shown that he can play defense or offense well enough to play at this level yet, why does everyone want him in every game?
Only to buy minutes for Kaleb to calm down. Like him or not, LeDee is the next man up.
Iowa State would whoop tOSU like a rented mule, imo. Iowa State can play fast and expose tOSU's ball handling and shooting woes.
OR, they could get smacked just like their sister school did against the right Buckeye team that showed up on the right night.
Teams can only play fast if you lose control and let them, they have no answer for Kaleb Wesson.
I'm so excited and I just can't hide it
I'm gonna lose control and I think I like it!
And they are in against Iowa State.
They go six deep for the most part with heavy minutes with five guards and one Forward though guards are not small.
Guards to 6'2", 6'4", 6'5",6'5" and 6'6" with "center" at 6'9" but light at 230+. Another five players get 6-9 minutes a game. At least size shouldn't be a huge concern this game, everything else sure.
