What was most interesting, and telling, to me is that Fields was given the opportunity to run with the first team in his first practice. I would've assumed that at least on the first day Baldwin would have run with the 1s (because of his experience in the system), with Fields earning first team reps as he gets up to speed.
You know who else tries to get a little better every day?
Keep grinding young man we need a QB .
High and tight boo boo
I have a friend at work who is a Chargers’ fan. I often troll him by mentioning how happy he must be that the Chargers cut Brees years ago (really let him have it after the Saints won the Super Bowl).
2 amazing QB coaches and another OC who's incredibly good. Improve every single day and with your raw God given talent.... Win the Heisman trophy on the way to a B1G and National Championship. Success looks good on you so repeat the whole thing next year. Back to back.... Not since the mid 70's and coach Hayes / Archie.
Gotta love Yurcich’s coach speak.
“To win the job, he’s gonna have to show he can throw the ball. He’s also gonna need to know who his receivers are. Then he’s gotta get it to them. He’ll also need to run it sometimes.”
*voice from off screen*: “Haskins didn’t run it .”
Yurcich: “Scratch that last part unless you’re talking to an NFL talking head.”

Whether it's Baldwin or Fields I think we'll be in good hands. Can't wait to see what they can do in the spring game

Didn’t realize Ryan Day is competing as a starting QB too. Should be interesting
Love to hear his answers. Yes sir. No sir. Respect is earned when is given. I like this guy already and hope he can live up to his potential.
I hope Fields completes on 70+ % in the Spring game but Baldwin completes something insane like 15 out of 16 while hitting each receiver in stride. Nothing like hoping for our coaches having 2 great choices and every reason to let both play without any platoon at all. 2 Talented guys playing and being rewarded for looking great.
One thing we know from past Spring games...there will be a lot more passing than running.
Man, the uncertainty drives me nuts. This spring will show whether these guys can play QB. As far as the mental part goes, well you don't know until you know. There is going to be a moment where you need to convert, get a first down, but the other team is playing zone looking for a pick, or bringing pressure, will the QB make the right decision?
I just hope we run the ball a whole lot better this year. And play lights out on D. Those things will make the transition to a new QB go much smoother.
I'd rather be a minute early than an hour early, 'cause I like to procrastinate.
TBH I could see getting to the fall camp without a clear starter. we could start the season with a dual QB situation to see who separates in live game action - especially Cinci in Week 2.
Agree. Only so much you can tell from practice. See what happens when the lights go on. I’m not an advocate for a 2 QB system, but our schedule this year affords us to essentially have a 4 game competition, if needed.
Interesting concept, but I think we need to have a starter firmly named before week 1. From there, handle it the way they handled getting Martell reps at the beginning of last season. Get a comfortable lead first, and if you're up by 4 TDs in the first half, throw the next guy in just for some reps that are a little more meaningful than 4th quarter garbage-time reps.
I hate 2-QB systems because they mess with an offense's chemistry/rhythm, they can lead to more false start penalties, and I feel like they diminish the amount of direction/leadership the offense gets from the QB.
Even against the weaker teams like FAU at the beginning, I'd prefer not to see two QBs rotating in-and-out every possession or two. Both of these guys are inexperienced, and whoever wins the job needs to get as many reps as possible. Like I said, I think Day/Meyer did a great job in the first 4 games last season (besides TCU) at making sure Haskins, who was also relatively inexperienced, got plenty of reps and was able to improve while also still making sure Martell got reps other than just late in the game to expose him to different situations
Day is competing for the QB spot???
YEP. Baldwin is very good, too.
"I think Alabama would beat Ohio State if they played next weekend!" Clay Travis Fox Sports Post Championship Show 1.12.2015. Needs no explanation.
Day did not go after Fields with the intention of keeping the highest ranked player ever to come to Ohio State on the bench. The one thing I am glad that I will never have to do is keep highly recruited players content who don't see the field the way they expect to see the field.
