For comparison sake, here is what pre-combine OT1 Jonah Williams came in at:

Man Prince is a physical prototype OT

Triv's picture

He really is, and at Jordan's 34 1/4 arms you might find a team that falls in love with the fact that he can play LG through RT and boost his stock a little too.

If Prince is successful as a pro, it says our OL coaching staff sucked.

OSU had Weber at 5'10" 214, so fairly accurate reporting by OSU.

Although they had Jordan at 6'7" 312, so over an inch off on that one. Prince was nearly spot on at 6'7"  310

Ohio State is one of a few schools that usually doesn't fib on player's heights and weights. Guys seem to measure up in socks right at what they were listed at for the most part.

Except for true freshmen that enroll in the summer. For whatever reason those are always inflated, but then they post their true measurements as sophomores

milhouse4588's picture

At that height and weight, Weber should never fall backwards. His center of gravity is going to be half a foot shorter at the very least compared to anyone trying to tackle him.

Not Buckeye related but I saw on a TV crawl at a restaurant the other night that Kyler Murray "has no plans to throw" at the combine. What the hell? Why is he there then?

Lifetime vs. UM: L 8-1, C 7-0, T 4-0

Brandon26841's picture

The combine is really mostly about medicals / interviewing these guys 1 on 1.

It annoys me too when top guys don't workout, but it's pretty common with QBs it seems.

LCT's picture

So that's normal?

I would ask every prospective QB not throwing "Why aren't you throwing?"

Lifetime vs. UM: L 8-1, C 7-0, T 4-0

ohiowhitesnake's picture

Theres a bunch of guys who never throw at combine. Private workouts for teams that are interested is usually what happens.

There are too many variables for a lot of QBs to feel confident in throwing at the combine. You get asked to do things you've never done, throw to people you don't know, maybe routes you've never thrown. I disagree with the idea but whatever they think is best.

If you laugh, you think, and you cry, that's a full day. That's a heck of a day. You do that seven days a week, you're going to have something special.

milhouse4588's picture

The risk/reward of throwing at the combine isn't worth it. You risk a bad performance with unfamiliar receivers and timing that could have a big impact on your spot. But if you decline to throw and do well at your Pro Day your stock isn't impacted at all for skipping.

He's there because the interviews and measurables are important to draft stock and getting his size questions out of the way is a good move.

Impress with your mental game this week, then show out at your Pro Day for your physical game and it's the best bet for a QB.

To give anything less than your best is to sacrifice the gift.

AC's picture

I think the perception of throwing at the combine has changed. Top QBs used to never throw but I read this week that something like 12 of the last 13 QBs taken in the first round threw at the combine. The lone exception was Sam Darnold. So there seems to be a change in how NFL teams and prospects view throwing at the combine.

I could be (and likely am crazy) but I don’t think it has anything to do with the actual throwing. I don’t think his people want him throwing next to Haskins, Lock and Jones. Not because of his ability to throw the ball, but because of how small he will look throwing next to those guys. It’s one thing to read 5’10” it’s another to see him throwing with guys 5-8 inches taller than him and 40+ lbs heavier. I think it makes his size issue become “more real.”

Good take. If I was Murray I wouldn't want to throw next to Haskins either.

Lifetime vs. UM: L 8-1, C 7-0, T 4-0

Brandon26841's picture

This is also something I've noticed recently. The top QBs used to never throw it seemed, but recently more and more are.

From what I understand when it comes to throwing at the combine you are throwing mainly to guys you've never worked out with before and have no chemistry with. A lot of agents don't want their guys going out and throwing it to a bunch of guys that could make them look less than stellar. Most 1st rounders don't throw at the combine they wait until pro day to throw to their college teammates.

buckslan's picture

Prince with some incredible measurables, which isn't surprising. He's going to be a steal in the draft if he can go to a team that can help him get over his mental hurdles.

Oh the Combine.....where 4/8 isn't reduced to 1/2 using the LCD.....ugh, I forgot about that. I guess  5'18" is really 6'6" too.

Some combine adjacent news... Arizona GM was just asked if they are all in on Josh Rosen... he said "for now"... lots of rumblings they may take Murray at #1 and then move Rosen...

Also, the Eagles aren't franchising Nick Foles...

The WORST case scenario for our guy Haskins is Murray to Arizona, Foles signs with the Jags and then the Giants swings a deal for Rosen ( a guy they loved last year)...  and Haskins being left without a dance partner ( currently)...

Should be interesting...

Go Bucks!

CTBuckeyeFan's picture

I think Haskins is a Bronco in that scenario.  Not a bad landing spot for him, he can sit for a year while Flacco plays them into another high draft slot.

I'm Ron Burgundy's picture

I think it really would be a pride scenario for Haskins at that point.  Not being the 1st QB off the board.  Could be a good thing in the long run, motivation and landing spot-wise.  There is almost no chance in the world he goes outside of the top 10.  If he somehow makes it past 6 or 7, teams will be going nuts to trade up in there to get him before pick 10.

Not bad when that is your worst case scenario.

tcm1968's picture

Believe it's about $1M guaranteed for each spot he drops after #1... pride for sure.. but lots of $$$$$

And there are plenty of scenarios where Haskins falls out of the top 10... bad combine/interview/pro-day would hurt... and I think the easiest is Broncos at 10 or just as likely the Giants feeling like they are betting against themselves in the top 15 and trading back and still taking Haskins..

You get Murray to Arizona and Foles to the Jags and the Giants/Broncos could easily get in a situation where they do the cake and eat it too thing.. trade back to early teens and still get Haskins ( they'd have to roll the dice the other team wouldn't take him of course)..

Also, just like last year a team like the Broncos or even the Giants may be all in on a QB not named Haskins.. Rosen was a LOCK last year at one of the top spots and fell because the Browns went all curveball with Mayfield... As a number of really smart NFL people have said.. "Haskins to the Giants makes all sorts of sense.. and more often than not in past drafts that almost never happens"..

It's just an odd year.. so many QBs went last year and those teams are picking in the top 15 again. The teams that need QBs, for the most part, are at the back of the first round... that's normally reversed...

Go Bucks!

Just praying he doesn’t end up on Snyder’s payroll.

tcm1968's picture

Yup, 12-32 could get REAL interesting if Haskins doesn't have a dance partner in top 10..

Wow, never would have guessed Campbell to be a sliver under 6'.   I mean, he just looks taller than that on the field.  Was he playing all these years in high heels? lol

Kyler Murray just made himself a ton of money:

This can't be right. I swear there were 11w commenters who swore on their mother's grave the kid 5'8 or 5'9...they stood next to him and stuff.

I love Combine talk LOL.

Triv's picture

Seeing him next to Haskins and Tua at the Heisman ceremony, I certainly would not have guessed 5'10" either. The 207 is the more surprising number to me, I'm guessing he fattened himself up the last few weeks and probably won't do much athletic testing. I think he plays closer to 190

Sorry Urban, Woody is still my favorite

AC's picture

I agree that he was probably playing in the 190 lbs range. That is why I’d want to see him run at 207 lbs if I were a GM. If it affects his running ability then that’s an issue. If he has to be in the 190 lbs range to be the electric runner he is then that is also an issue. Even if he was the 195 lbs Oklahoma listed him at, that 12 lbs gained is a lot.

I'm Ron Burgundy's picture

I definitely had him pegged around 5'9.5", but an OU staffer was adamant he was just over 5'10" in socks when they measured him, so I guess he was telling the truth.

It's funny though, like a 1/2 inch really makes a huge difference, yet for some reason I do feel like 5'10" was this magic number for Murray that some teams needed to see to feel better about him.

ScarletnGreyTexan's picture

I'm that guy and I'm calling full BULL SHIT. I am dead on 5'10' and I was looking down at his eyes. both in running shoes.Unless he hit some kind of crazy growth spirt there is absolutely zero chance he is 5'10". I seriously would not be surprised if the NFL is covering up his real height or measured at the top of his spiky hair. dead serious. that kid is NOT 5 foot fucking 10. I will find a pic of me and my oldest son. my oldest son is 6'6" and I'm 5'10" ( I married a 6'0"woman for breeding purposes, she hates when I say that but there is some truth to it haha). you will se the discrepancy between me and my son and Kyler and Haskins from Heisman and you guys can be the judge.

well that's not how this works.

New Day for OSU. Same noon for TTUN.

jrunyan's picture

You are so adamant that he isn’t 5’10” that you just had to name  the jpeg IMG_5901, didn’t you? Haha

Brandon26841's picture

I definitely was expecting around 5-9 or so (just based off of a pic of him standing side by side with 5-10 flat Antonio Brown and Brown looked taller) but I knew he was gonna weigh in over 205. So Murray is almost the same exact size as Russell Wilson and he's got bigger hands than Baker Mayfield.

Strange to think that Campbell isn't even 6 feet tall.

tcm1968's picture

And a number people saying he's in FANTASTIC shape and many expect him to run a sub 4.4 forty...

Hello #1 pick..

Go Bucks!

Triv's picture

I'll be shocked if he even runs at the combine. He didn't get to 207 with good weight...

He'll drop back to 190-195 (his playing weight at Oklahoma) and run at his pro day. Funny enough, any team the requests a personal workout usually does a height/weight before the workout, so he won't be able to fool any team that works him out into actually thinking he's pushing 210.

Sorry Urban, Woody is still my favorite

Brandon26841's picture

Well, they weigh you again at your pro day, so I doubt he's going to drop back down to 190 - 195.

Welp, I guess you pointed that out in your next paragraph. He'll run at 207 at one point or another I'd assume (unless he pulls a Lamar Jackson and not run at all, but that was to not allow the "he should play WR" narrative to gain steam if he ripped off a 4.3).

Triv's picture

I don't think he'll ever run at 207. He either won't run a 40, or he'll drop back to 195 for his private workouts. People don't need to see him run to know he's incredibly mobile. If he runs a high 4.5 or even a 4.6 at 207 that will torpedo his draft stock, as mobility is a huge part of him not getting killed at 190 pounds.

Kyler Murray is going number 1. Josh Rosen to the Pats.

actionstanleyjackson's picture

Someone is taking Murray first. Haskins I believe if he has a great work out will be a top 5 pick. QBS are gold and these 2 guys are going to be sought after heavily....Giants, Jags, Cardinals, Raiders, Miami...

Stay golden, Ponyboy.

Such a nice feeling not worrying about what QB to take in the 1st this year.

I could get used to this.

I’m a little surprised Campbell came in under 6’ but I don’t think it’s shocking. I don’t know why but McLaurin being both taller and heavier than Campbell shocks me. Both measurements are only marginally larger, but Campbell seems really well built while McLaurin always seemed to have a more slender frame to me.

Side note, McLaurins HS coach said he was 5’3” 125lbs as a freshmen in HS. Incredible to think that he won The Opening 3 years later.

Dont think there's much doubt, at least to me, that Murray will now be the top qb taken. Right, wrong, or indifferent.

Still think Haskins ends up with the better career but I see the allure of Murray. Just don't see a lot of Baker comparisons within their actual play.
