So does this mean Chambers will be in the LB room then?
I believe I heard that he's playing defense.
Glad to hear that. That would've been a grand injustice to have someone named Steele Chambers not play for the Silver Bullets.
Chambers will be playing rb at least for this year.
Starting on offense. Who said on defense?
Especially with our need of depth
My bad, I was thinking Cade Stover when I replied. Don't ask me anything before noon! LOL
The x-factor here is McCall. If he's a RB, doesn't that mean some reps for him and rest for Dobbins? Or is there something we don't know?
Boy, I got vision and the rest of the world wears bifocals! - Butch Cassidy
Think this :)
O ... H ... '96
That is straight running away from dudes. Dang that's impressive.
"It's a double-barreled pistol that fires hard work and victory..."
I have it on good authority that McCall will remain solely in the running back room for the upcoming year and that he is the clear cut #2 going into spring practice. Unless Teague blows up in the spring I wouldn't expect that to change. With Hill, Saunders, and Gill at the H, there is significantly more of a need at RB.
McCall isn’t big enough to solely play RB.
It’s not the QB not running. It’s running when in an option formation, and a few games in teams realize there is no option.
Dobbins is an absolute unit.
"just a guy, nothing more, nothing less" ~ Some troll then *poof* he was gone
Give me a big, bruising, fast running back.
I think Teague has some Mo Clarrett in him. I’d love to see him punish some LBs.
Same. I fully expect that by November MT will be getting roughly half the carries. Provided he can hold onto the ball and block. :)
Teague to get half the carries by November? No way. He will get at least 65-70%
If McCall is running with the RB’s, I will put money down on him being the backup. He’ll get a lot of 3rd down opportunities and a whole series every 3-4 drives.
This is definitely where I parked my car.
I think he'll be the 3rd and long back since he's a threat to catch a pass out of the backfield for a big gain.
And he is fast and elusive enough to run the jet sweep. Or is that catch the jet sweep.
He's gotta take care of the ball. Another big fumble may be his last. The staff at some point will lose interest with him if he doesn't get the ball security fixed in his 3rd year, the clock doesn't stop, it passes you by at some point. Then it's back to being a hood ornament.
MICHIGAN STILL SUCKS
Please don’t crucify me, but I think Master Teague will be a better back than Dobbins. I could be wrong, but I’ll be hoping they both have a hell of a year!
Teague better than JK? Nice drugs.
You do realize he’s a late first early 2nd round pick don’t you?
Glad you've seen into the future on both backs
Yep. No way Teague is going to be a first round pick. That’s the only way he’s becomes a better player than JK. He’s a very good player but not a special player.
Sorry. That’s what the crystal ball says.
The stable is strong on potential. Looking for JK to bounce back big.
I love the fact that we're able to hope he "bounces back" considering he had over 1,000 yards and 10 TDs. We're definitely spoiled around here.
"We gotta go win this next game and make the State of Ohio proud!"-UFM
This is true...
I want to see him as the workhorse, and finding a rhythm that I don't think he ever found last season.
I just hope he finds that next gear that Weber found this season.
I'll take that.
I'm comfortable with the talent in this room/stable. I am a bit nervous about the OL, however!
I'd rather be an hour early than a minute late.
Running failure was blocking. Tom Brady doesn't run the football and their running backs do great every single year. Blocking is the issue. Blocking schemes as well.
I thought Dobbins vision regressed last year, but that's probably due to the rotation and never getting a feel or rhythm for the game. Oline didn't help either. Hopefully he regains freshmen form and improves on it.
You win with people.
The talent is there, no question, just behind Dobbins the experience level obviously isn't there. I was very impressed by Teague in his limited playing time last year.
Urban Meyer left an incredible legacy. 12/4/18 Ryan Day begins his.
I think the more disappointing aspect of the Ohio State rushing attack was the yards per carry (77th) and ranked at 117th for longest run from scrimmage. Those are just not normal Buckeye numbers. Even when you have a prolific passing attack those numbers should be better at Ohio State.
I don't buy one goddam drop of gas in the state of Michigan!
Losing Snead is a blow. Pair and a Spare. True freshman isnt an ideal spare. We'll see though. Not hating on anyone
I know there's a game Saturday, and my ass will be there.
I Believe In Ohio State.
I think in a pinch McCall or Gill can be the 3rd RB and excel
McCall will be #2 barring any unforeseen circumstances
#2 in touches but if Dobbins goes down expect Teague to step into the every down back role. Im assuming his pass pro is at least average
I am sure we'll see plenty of carries from McCall and Teague but I think it'd be cool if Amari got some carries in mop up duty.
See you in Indy !!
It's not a rivalry .............. it's a wreckoning.
Seattle Sounders 2019 MLS Champions
Stoked to see increased touches for Teague. He has all the tools to keep the Cadillac position at Ohio State (as Urban always said) rolling along after Dobbins.
With Justin Fields at QB, Dobbins will get back to his freshman year stat of avg 7.2 yards per carry. Gonna be a heck of an offense!!!!
If chambers picks up the offense I think he could surprise some people.
I pray that we see MORE 2-back sets with both Dobbins and McCall...need to give D something to think about/prepare for as well as McCall some additional touches that aren’t as obvious.
"When you help someone up a hill, you get that much closer to the top yourself..."
A lot of 2 back sets left CFB 10 years ago. Doesn’t stretch the defensive interior.
It's incredible to see how many position groups are 1 injury away from being devastated. Of course the early entrants don't help, but the entire offensive side of the ball except pass catchers (WR, TE) are in that scenario.
If Dobbins or Teague go down, RB has 1 even remotely experienced option. They have only 1 scholarship qb with any experience. We don't even know yet whether they have 5 reliable linemen.
I know these problems will get worked out, 1 way or another, but scary to see the lack of depth right now
Sending several early NFL draftees/free agents is part of life at OSU the last decade or so. Filling in with 4-5* talent continues to be the solution. It's why we have preseason early games to get in sync. The teams who have plenty of seniors playing regularly aren't as talented as the top tier teams, and I'd rather be the latter, not the former.
It’s kids leaving. It’s about recruiting. 100%. Every time we miss on a kid, we hear “next!” “Next” is biting us in the ass on the OL and LB.
Justin Fields has not been named the starting QB. Just thought 11W writers might want to be aware of this and stop $#!tting on Baldwin.
Oh yea, Fields isn't the starter...
Keag - like seriously???
Fields did not transfer here to NOT start! Not saying that he was promised anything, however, he did not transfer here to NOT start!
Urban Meyer, undefeated (7-0) VS ttun | Ryan Day, undefeated (2-0) vs ttun
*As always, In (Urban) Ryan Day I Trust! There is a plan, even if we cannot see it right now!
God, Family, Guns, Country, and Sports!
It’s gonna be Hoak.
We will be pleasantly surprised by the effectiveness of a run game that doesn't hinge off a non-running QB playing the UFM read option. Fields can likely run the RO, but I doubt he's asked to very often (just enough to make opponents prep for it). Play action and RPO will be big, with some power run to take advantage of Dobbins strengths.
Why are we just handing the backup slot to Teague? I think it’s DMC time (finally) in a more prominent role.
Dobbins: 20 carries per game
DMC: 8-10 + 3-5 targets via pass
Fields: 10-12 cpg
Well, he wrote the article under the assumption that McCall is part of the WR room predominately and gets most of his PT from the slot, IE parris campbell-esque.
DMC’s strength isn’t as a RB. It’s about getting him in space. Nobody is writing him off it’s just reality.
DMC looked pretty good as a RB his freshmen year. I think if he got the reps he’d do just fine there
how many times was it mentioned that weber and snead are gone and the RB room is thin....haha...i think with weber and snead gone the RB room is thin ....
Would expect the offense moving forward to look similar to the one we saw in the 1st half of the rose bowl. Paris Campbell's departure will be the biggest hit, and I hope our OL can get back to downhill run blocking. However, JK getting the load of carries and McCall being a 3rd down back leads to a lot of excitement. Losing Jordan is obviously a blow, but somehow I think we put together a better run blocking line this year. Fields being more mobile as a QB will mask a lot of woes in pass pro.
We know Dobbins and McCall have the talent, if they are held to pedestrian numbers it will be because of the line play. Still, the way that McCall was used in the rose bowl leads me to believe that he'll be a true RB this year.
Kitties aren't supposed to smell like cigarettes, they're supposed to smell like kitties.
Would prefer to see Dobbins and Teague as RBs. McCall and his skill set seem better suited for sharing time with KJ at the H or slot position. Get him some jet sweeps. Maybe line him up in backfield enough to get the occasional wheel route.
"Woody would have wanted it that way"
