Kap turned down an offer. Reid played since then....so they should be thankful the nfl paid them to go away. I have zero pity for people that walk away from millions.

HS
BGSUBucksFan's picture

I don't pity Kap for turning that down, either. LCT's attitude and opinion discourages athletes from using their platforms for things like this. That's opposing progress, IMO.

HS
TeddyKGB's picture

They shouldn't use their "platform" for "things like this."  They should show up and do their job.  They have plenty of personal time and offseason to use their celebrity for their personal causes.

HS

In order to keep this thread around, I'm going to just agree to disagree here. How bout that Ryan Day guy, eh?

HS
LCT's picture

Please.

Everybody loves free speech except for everyone else's right to it.

Only Colin Kaepernick gets to say what he thinks.

I'd quibble with the absoluteness of 'everybody', but certainly true for the vast majority.  Sadly.  We're also rather obsessed with our right to speak, but aren't overly enamored with any responsibility to listen.

HS
LCT's picture

Right. It's hyperbole but equal justice under law is a concept that seems lost on many.

Hey, they have a right to say what they want. Sometimes that has consequences.

Go speak your mind on controversial social issues at work to everyone & see what happens.

When the AAFL-Kaepernick thing posted my first thought that there was a settlement coming. Im guessing Kap had some provable proof the NFL Owners were colluding against him hence the decision to settle. There was something written earlier about Kap's attorney deposing Goodell's text messages and phone records. Bet they found something good. Not that I care, Kap will never play again because nobody wants the PR headache when he kneels again. Fans dont want to see that stuff. Only reason NFL owners did anything was because they saw it killing their ratings.

There were a ton of fans who either didn’t care or sided with what he was doing. And many of them tuned out because of the way he was treated.

HS

Agreed. The whole thing pissed off both sides of the fight.

Whether you agree with his protest or not, I think it was rather obvious that collusion occurred on some level.

HS

This must be some strange new use of the word 'loathes' to which I was previously unaware.  Looks like he is in favor of collusion.

HS
Knarcisi's picture

Collusion is the adjective here. Thoughts is the noun.

HS
Wargor's picture

So does he loath his own thoughts on hoping it was collusion?  I mean, that happens from time to time, I'm just trying to get it all straight.

HS
Knarcisi's picture

He loathes JCam’s thoughts that there is collusion.

And I think he edited his post. Or I mistakenly read it as did “not”.

HS
LCT's picture

Did not edit. I like the idea of the NFL colluding in its best interests.

I must have missed this obvious collusion you speak off. Reid is on an active roster. Kap is just not that good for the pr he brings.

HS
IBLEEDSCARLETANDGRAY's picture

Reid's case wasnt collusion. He was suspended for failing a drug test and piggybacked onto Kapernick's thing because he felt the NFL owners were targeting him for repeated drug tests when he came back.

HS

Did not know this. This makes the NFL's cowardice even more impressive?

Lifetime vs. UM: L 8-1, C 7-0, T 4-0

HS
Wargor's picture

NFL cowardice is probably the only thing both sides could agree on.

HS
LCT's picture

My dream scenario for this involves the NFL telling these two to fuck off, then fighting tooth & nail over many years and millions of dollars to a 5-4 win at the supreme court for freedom of association under the same 1st amendment that gives Kaep & Reid freedom to speak (which I support).

EDIT: 6-3, not 5-4

when was he suspended for a drug test?

HS
Belliott's picture

The bengals pretty much admitted they didn’t sign him because of the protests. Sooooo don’t know what you’d call that.

HS
Dstacify's picture

Agreed. Not to mention the Texans have been accused by agents of saying they won't sign any kneelers period (which it's Bob McNair's team, so I definitely buy that).

11 Strong.

HS
TeddyKGB's picture

This is not true.  His case was a collusion case as well.  His drug testing accusations of being targeted were proven false as well.

NFL, NFLPA say Eric Reid testing allegations not substantiated

The NFL and NFLPA responded by asking John Lombardo, the administrator of the performance-enhancing drug testing program for 28 years, to look into the matter.

"There is no evidence of targeting or any other impropriety with respect to his selection for testing," the two organizations said in a joint statement released Wednesday.

The joint investigation found that Reid's claims about the number of times he had been tested since signing with the Panthers were not accurate, sources told ESPN.

The NFLPA filed the grievance against the league on Reid's behalf in May. The grievance alleged team owners and the league, influenced by President Donald Trump, colluded to prevent Reid's employment because of his protests against social injustice during the pregame national anthem.

HS
logamaniac's picture

Collusion isn't the same thing as their social justice stance. They are two separate issues that should not have had anything to do with the other. The NFL likely colluded and decided to settle instead of get creamed in the PR space.

HS

Yeah.

HS
outdoorbuckeye's picture

I dont get how Reid could have settled for any money. He has an active contract. How did the NFL collude to keep you out of a job if you have one?

HS
Wargor's picture

All we know is that they settled.  We can presume it was for money, since that was stated to be a previous aim.

As to why the NFL would pay someone in the circumstances you mention, I'd presume it is for their silence.  Something embarrassing enough that they paid to make it go away.

Kapernick should have to donate that money to homeless veterans and all the police officers that had to protect his ass while his spit in their face.  He is such a piece of shit, and now getting paid more than most of us will see in 10 life times is absolutely what's wrong with this country.  He sucks at quarterback and disgraces this country, yet its the NFL's fault he is not on a team.. fucking pathetic.

Go Bucks!

HS
Dweinz's picture

my guess is he'll probably donate a lot of the money to charities, considering he donated well over $1 million to 41 different charities last year

HS
TheBadOwl's picture

Not that anything that anyone posts here will change anyone's mind on this issue, but I feel like this is worth mentioning:

Kapernick's original protest was sitting during the anthem. A veteran (and former Green Beret) spoke to him after and convinced him to kneel instead, saying that it would be more respectful.

That part of the story is seldom mentioned when this issue is discussed – but he literally changed the means of protest to something that, according to a veteran who he met with, would be more respectful. NPR actually did an in-depth interview with that veteran that's worth a read.

Many see this story as Kapernick wantonly disrespecting veterans – this often-excluded part of the story goes against that narrative.

When I walked in this morning and saw the flag was at half mast I thought, "Alright, another bureaucrat ate it." but then I saw it was Li'l Sebastian. Half mast is too high. Show some damn respect.

Kap has certainly done some stupid things, but he's also done some really good things. His passion for the cause has misguided him at times. All in all, I think more good than bad came from all of this.

HS

Yeah, the thread is about what I thought it would be. I am not sure the validity of the case for collusion or anything, but people freak out when folks have opinions that diverge from theirs and throw all sorts of labels out there.

Not the greatest players but it was not worth the overreaction most people had towards it either. There are better things to worry about.

While we will probably never find out the total sum that Kaep received, i just hope that the league and Kaep both put this money to good use. They can help kids in traditionally poor areas by donating time, money and other resources into athletic programs, fields, etc. Both parties can take an ugly situation and turn it into something positive for the youth of this country. at least i hope that happens, i guess we will have to wait and see.

HS
TheBadOwl's picture

I'd be pretty surprised if the settlement is purely financial, given how long it took to get to this point. Kapernick may not be on a roster, but it's unlikely that he'll ever truly be hurting for cash (plus he's donated a TON of money to the charitable causes). Parts of this settlement could come in the form of protections for other players' free speech actions, a league-wide commitment to the communities that he's protesting for, etc.

When I walked in this morning and saw the flag was at half mast I thought, "Alright, another bureaucrat ate it." but then I saw it was Li'l Sebastian. Half mast is too high. Show some damn respect.

Locking this thread. How are we so divided as a nation? I promise you we all agree on 90% of things that matter, but two parties have done a masterful job of pitting us into separate tribes.

We received this email at 4:45 p.m.

I'm done with this site. Bunch of liberal pussy fucks from Ohio that can't stop being little bitches. So glad I'm out of your pathetic left wing state. I hope I never see and of you bitches in Florida. Fuck your site and Go Buckeyes bitches.

And this one at 4:46 p.m.

I would simply like to state my concern that this website has once again chosen to ignore its political commenting policy with regards to Kaepernick. Some of the things stated about him in the thread are clearly racist and political in nature, and the fact that 11w leaves these up where it wouldn't leave up political takes from the opposite side of the aisle is hypocritical.

2019. Let's all get mad!
