Don't know about if they make the tournament but todays win looked damned good. I don't get to see many games. It was great.
Hopefully they do.
Glass half full guy in me says ABSOLUTELY
Go get'em Cal Poppy - we are behind you !!
It's not a rivalry .............. it's a wreckoning.
Wins at home against Illinois, Northwestern, and Iowa plus just one road win at MSU/Maryland/Purdue should clinch it, I think. 11-9 in the Big Ten should definitely be good enough for a bid.
I think with this win, our odds have gone from "probably won't" to "probably will," because the odds that we're going to go at least 10-10 in the conference (which we will need) have gone way up.
But: in order to win out at home, we will have to beat Iowa and Wisconsin, and those are better teams than any we have beaten this season.
The most "loud mouth, disrespect" poster on 11W.
I think they have to finish at .500 in league and win a tournament game after that horrible losing skid. That just didn't look good.
TBD. Too many games left to go. Seth Davis said Big10 gets 8 teams in, Clark Kellogg said 7. I agree more with Clark because we know how committees rate the Big10 lower than the other Power 5 conferences. For that matter, it wouldn't surprise me if the Big10 gets only 6 teams in. The teams at the bottom half of the Big10 are winning just enough games against the teams in the middle that it might prevent a 7th team from getting in.
I'd rather be a minute early than an hour early, 'cause I like to procrastinate.
I saw that, but I think Clark forgot about Minnesota because he said “7 will get in because the Buckeyes and Hoosiers won’t both get in” implying that one would.
Indiana has already lost 11 games. If Clark thinks they are even on the radar screen of the NCAAs barring winning the Big Ten Tournament, he's insane.
The Buckeyes-and the B10 in general-will benefit from an awful Big East this year. Villanova and Marquette are both S16 caliber teams, but they are likely to be the only teams from the Big East getting invites, the rest of league is a hot mess across the board. Same thing w/ the Pac 12-only 1 or 2 teams.
The Buckeyes also have to hope Buffalo wins the MAC tourney, b/c they will gobble up an at large spot even if they blow the tournament and another MAC team gets the automatic bid.
We're not that good, but we are in the top 68 of the country.
Said yes, but there is still work to do. Can’t slip up vs NW (2) or Illinois. Would be nice to get a win vs one of the ranked teams. And can’t go out first game in the B10 and put it in the selection committee’s hands.
If they can win a few more league games and finish w/ a winning record in the B10, they are in. Right now Lunardi or whomever has them as in, so I'll go with him until he says otherwise-he is pretty reliable on these things.
If they win 4 more reg season games, I think they may get invited. That would make their record 21-11 before the B1G tourney.
Still, having12 losses, without having an automatic conference entry, doesn't often earn an at-large invite.
Our honor defend, so we'll fight to the end !
Would have voted with a "Maybe" choice.
Will have to be better than 1-and-done in the B1G Tournament.
In old Ohio there's a team that's known throughout the land...
I voted yes but obviously it's not like we're in already. Lots of work to do, but looking up.
They'd better stay in the top 7 or 8 in the conference.
Varys: I've always hated the bells. They ring for horror, a dead king, a city under siege.
Tyrion: A wedding.
Would like them to, but they still have some basketball to play, against some pretty darn good teams. If they beat Michigan State next week, that would go a long way if they were to split their final 8 games. It's going to be tough with MSU, Maryland, Purdue and Wisconsin due, and Iowa is still out there too.
I like the direction they're going right now.
It was a good win - conference, on the road. Let's see where things go.
I had to run away high, so I wouldn't come home low...
beat Illinois and NW twice and then beat either Iowa or Wisky at home gets us to 20. Anything on top of that is gravy...
could go 4-5 the rest of the way and still get in ( and that would include a first round exit in the B10 toruney).
20 and in...
Unfortunately, I'm saying no. 5 of the final 7 are against ranked teams and 3 of the 5 are on the road. I hope I'm wrong.
Don't think you can say "yes" directly after that win. We are a bubble team and for bubble teams it's how you finish, the hot teams get in, the not-so-hot stay at home. This win definitely helps but you have to win a few more before to get the "yes" from me. Also can't be letting the bottom feeders like PSU and Rutgers take you to the wire.
I really think it's 50/50 because there are other factors out of their hands. If those things fall reasonably in place then I think there is a good chance if they win the games they should. One more good win like Wisconsin seals the deal. I like a team that has fight and they didn't fold after the losing streak which shows they are willing to fight on, so YES YES YES.
I think so. Honestly, if they hold serve at home, and beat Northwestern on the road...that's a 5-3 finish, and that should get it done regardless of how the B1G tournament goes.
Class of 2010.
This team plays bipolar. If they can constantly protect the ball and then work on constantly moving on the offensive side, they have a shot.
I just don't see it happening. Even if they win all the "should win games" ie. all the remaining home games plus @NW, that still leaves them at 11-9. But most of those wins will have come over teams in the bottom half of the league, with the only "good wins" being vs Iowa and Wisky who will be in the 4-8 range of the B1G. I think they need to pick off either MSU or Purdue on the road to get in. Last year Nebraska was 13-5 and didn't make it, precisely because none of their wins were vs the teams at the top. Maybe we get in because of name recognition, but this just doesn't look like a tourney team to me. If they lose any of the remaining home games there is no chance at all.
To reiterate what many have already said, IMO they'll have to finish no worse than 10-10 in conference play, and then make it to at least the semi's of the B1G Tournament...and no matter what kind of season Indiana's having, a win in Bloomington is still a pretty big deal--that place is as crazy a place to play as any gym in the country.
10-10 gets us in for sure.
I believe 9-11 is enough, assuming we win one conference tournament game.
So, yes, we're a tournament team given that we can go 3-4 down the stretch.
There is absolutely no way 9-11 gets us in, unless 2 of the 3 remaining wins are @MSU and @PU AND we get at least to the finals of the B1GT.
Win the games you're supposed to win, and yes they're in.
An NCAA tournament bid with this team would be a nice year, a win would be a great year IMO. This team just isn't super talented. The experience would be huge. Adding all of our experience with the 3 studs we have coming in will make us a team to watch next year. If K Wesson stops committing dumb over the back fouls 38 secs into games and can play 34-35 minutes, it makes us a ton better. He either is a beast, or he passes so well out of the doubles. Young back gives us a little edge we were missing. Just get in!!!
I have a rule of thumb: if you lose to Rutgers, you don't go to the Big Dance.
Penn State, Nebraska, Indiana nor Ohio State (bar getting an auto bid) will be in the Field of 68.
I would love to be wrong.
Their ya go, another Yes or No question, when at this interval, the NCAA tourney could go either way, how about an "OUT" like DON"T KNOW OR DON'T CARE, OR I"M SCARED TO ANSWER
I am not going to jinx the boys, so I refuse to answer, or I take the fifth !
Not gonna touch this one nosiree !!
Another poll that is impossible to answer at this point with the options given,
Beating Indiana does not get ANYBODY into the tournament. It's the Feb. 23, Feb. 26 and March 2 games that will make the difference: at Maryland, home to Iowa and at Purdue. Thos three will determine whether they make it or not. The Buckeyes have not beaten a BT team with a pulse, and lost by double digits to four of the five ranked BT teams that beat them -- only MSU was less than 10, at 9.
Right now, the only gimme's left on the sched are Illini next week, and N'Western twice. The Bucks still have 5 currently ranked teams to play yet. A win over Indy, equaling a tourney bid? "You CAN'T be serious!"
