Like the ball in the stands, we balls out
Bucks definitely NEED someone who can get to the hoop.!!!!!!!!!!
I want to see our guys make a head fake or shot fake near the bucket to get the defensive man up in the air, and then draw the foul. If you give a fake, then they are off balance. Sometimes faking is good. Hope I explained it well enough.
Is this a real post?

Bettendorf won 51-44 as Carton scored 28. In three of his team's last six games, he's scored more than half of the Bulldogs' points.
On Monday, 16-1 Bettendorf will host 17-0 North Scott and will be looking to avenge its only loss, a 59-55 OT road setback on December 14. Carton had 29 points, 16 rebounds and five assists but he was 8/18 from inside the arc, 1/9 on 3's and 10/16 from the line. While he carried more than his fair share of the weight--he was the only Bettendorf player in double figures, while four North Scott players scored between 10-21 points--he can't shoot that badly again while his teammates need to step it up if they want to beat #2 North Scott.
Iowa Buckeye: Thaks for the Carton info. Please keep us informed as he goes along!
How big is his school? How tough is his competition? Do you think he is rhe real deal? TIA!
It's a 4A school, which is the highest class in Iowa. Got about 1500 students (9-12) which would put them in the high teens if you ranked the schools by enrollment. They're usually pretty good in most sports, football especially.
While Iowa is no where near many other states in producing a large amount or high level basketball recruits, this kid's game appears to be pretty complete. He's looks physical he seems to handle the ball well and plays defense, he has the right body type to come in and play Immediately. To me he looks a bit like Trey Burke, I also think that him and Dominiq Penn have very similar games. We should be ok at the PG position for years to come.
While Iowa’s high school sports reputation has always been tied to wrestling, it does fairly well producing D1 basketball players. Typically 2/3’s of UNI’s and half of Iowa’s men’s basketball rosters are in-state kids (but that’s obviously spread over multiple recruiting classes). The problem is the highest profile players have a tradition of leaving, especially if Roy Williams wants them (Harrison Barnes, Raef LaFrentz, Nick Collison, Kirk Hinrich and Marcus Paige were all high school All Americans and state POYs who went to Kansas or UNC). Iowa has several pretty good high school AAU teams.
Iowa also does very well in several girls sports—basketball (the #4 2020 recruit nationally lives in Des Moines), volleyball, cross-country/track and field. Overall, the state ranks third nationally in high school sports participation—# of participants as a % of the state's total high school students—behind only Texas and Minnesota.
As far as football goes, like most northern states, the talent is lacking, especially in the skill positions. If the state produces 20 FBS recruits in a year, that’s considered a bumper crop. But the D2, D3 and NAIA teams are always pretty competitive nationally, which is where the Iowa’s high level of high school football participation starts to pay out.
Great info, It seems to me that we have recruited kids from Bettendorf in the past, and may have even landed one. Have we ever had a Bettendorf alum on the roster?
I don't believe so for football. Bettendorf is generally considered an Iowa feeder school--60 miles from Iowa City, same colors. As Kareem said, it's a very strong football program by Iowa's standards. I believe the only two Iowans who've ever played basketball for Ohio State were John Anderson and Scott Anderson from Linn-Marr, which is near Cedar Rapids, and played at Ohio State at the same time in the mid/late 80s. Oddly, they were not related. Frank Fritz and Mike Wolfe from American Pickers are both alums.
Ahhh, yes, Linn-Marr and the Andersons. Must have my Iowa high schools confused. Thanks!
That Weiskamp kid for the Hawkeyes is a baller.
If Carton and Walker are as advertised then I think this offense will look a lot different next year. We will not see scoring droughts and they will make every player around them better. Myself I can't wait to see it. Should be near the top of the league by next February.
Nice - congratulations to DJ Carton.
I'm not around that much, running exhausted and lost...
Looking forward to his and his fellow recruits arrival. We currently need a few sharp shooters wether they drive the lane or hit more consistently from the outside.
At 6'1" the young man can jump, wow. Surprised that he's the only 1000 point scorer in the schools history though, while that's a nice goal to reach it's normal for schools to have quite a few in their history.
It is surprising but they've never really been a basketball school. Football and UFC fighters is what they're known for ha. Pat Angerer, Tavian Banks & JP Flynn are probably the most notable for football.
Grads that went to the UFC --> Robbie Lawler, Mark Kerr, Pat Miletich and Michael "Drew" Mcfedries.
Also that short, fatter dude with a beard from American Pickers went there ha.
1,072 points was the record prior to Carton breaking it...
It’s going to be raining in 2019 - 20!!
TG Proud Buckeye alumnus.
Hopefully Liddell can return from his injury soon. Very excited about next season.
