I would love to see one of the current Miami quarterbacks to tweet
“Word of advice
Don’t swing and miss, especially not your second time”
*Message disapproved by Mark May*
First reply to his tweet was exactly that.
I want a fall Saturday in Ohio Stadium..
Y'all can hate on Tate but if you are unbiased for a minute the real issue is Day.
Signed 0 quarterbacks this class
Brought in fields to save the day but has a very realistic chance of having to sit a year
Botched dwan Mathis
Lost Kory Curtis (apparently about to transfer)
Has Baldwin (who might not be fully healthy)
All this at the same time that DH is leaving too.
We can hate on Tate, but either way this has gone from the best QB room of all time to an enormous ? In the space of Day's first few days on the job..
Chugunov is the only known quantity in the QB room.
No puns intended, just really hard to avoid.
Buckshots... always there for you if you missed the news last month
Do you even pay attention? In Day's system Tathan was the 3rd best option. Good luck to the diva, he should fit in well down there.
When the going gets tough, the tough run away. I hope he's healthy and successful but... The last 4 weeks have shown some weakness in character.
Very glad to have a QB who isn't always mumbling Me... Me... Me... Us - err no - Me...
He was crazy talented and elusive. The next 4 ingredients were disappointing. Do well young man. Hopefully Miami has a life coach. I will cheer for him most times because he was here. Time to see where he's going. You need to win the job against the best.
Always hated the U. They are now my 2nd favorite team. Taters going to tear it up alongside Bolden the stud
" It's real good whatcha done Anthony, real good ! "
Fields certainly wasn't afraid to come here and compete against the other guys that were already here. I'll take that guy! ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
I'd trade Martell and Mathis for Fields every day of the week. That's a huge upgrade as long as you believe in quality over quantity.
We kind of had a 4-team NBA trade here.
tOSU - Fields, Chug (the biggest prize of them all)
UGA - Mathis + cash considerations (for the SEC team)
WVU - Allison
Miami - Tate
You've got barbecue back there?
There will be mostly two types of fans on here with Tate; some will hate him because they’ll see him as a betrayer to the University, and others will wish him luck and hope he gets things to work out for him in Miami.
I hope there is a third version; people who recognize that he is despite all the glory he’s received before getting here, deep down, just a dumb kid who makes ignorant comments; just like all of us did at the same age.
Did he talk a bunch of crap over Twitter? Yep, and I’m willing to bet everyone of us has at some point in our life, or for old guys like me over a forum. People should remember that most mistakes we point out are the very same mistakes that we have all done. The only differences most of us hopefully haven’t done it on a national stage.
Personally, I’m in the 3rd group. I can’t really bring myself to root for him at another university, because I do believe that we need to learn from our mistakes and he desperately needs to learn humility. He’s gone from being a perennial winning quarterback in high school, to the Gatorade player of the year, to be supposedly future QB1 at arguably one of the top three or four programs in the country, to somebody that’s now being replaced by the next QB1.
Maybe Day told him he wasn’t going to start over Fields, maybe Day conformed that bringing back the zone read isn’t going to happen (Thank God). And maybe Tate Martell threw a giant tantrum after finding out he wasn’t the next greatest thing.
Humility is Something that all of us need to learn in life. But while I can’t see myself cheering him on at Miami, I don’t wish him to fail. I wish him to (hopefully) learn someday that the method in which he went about the last three months was atrociously ignorant and juvenile. He did everything you would teach a young Premier athlete to not do.
Actions always speak louder than words, and thus far his actions have done exactly the opposite.

Thanks don't think people see this as betrayal. It's more the way he handled it by running his mouth awful reckless for a man who don't go heeled.
Ignorance isn't bliss for the rest of us.
I don't know where "Thanks" came from after typing "I", but there it is.

I agree with you moo that Day probably told him he wants more of a pocket passer and tate was hoping to use his feet and knowledge of Urbans play book to hold Fields off. When he realized he wasn’t going to go back to a read option offense he decided to go elsewhere. But that’s just my opinion
It seems more likely that Day (and/or the new OC) told Tate that the read option would not be featured at OSU and that he would have to compete for the QB job, rather than telling him that he was unwanted or unlikely to win the job.
Our honor defend, so we'll fight to the end !
There will be mostly two types of fans on here with Tate
I think things are a lot more nuanced than your three limited options.
I'm fine with him finding his best situation and hope he thrives there, as long as he doesn't bash Ohio State or anyone here.
I'm fine with him finding his best situation and hope he thrives there, as long as he doesn't bash Ohio State or anyone here.
I have been reading Eleven Warriors for about 5 years. I have read maybe a thousand times "once a Buckeye always a Buckeye". That being said, No one, again No one, knows what went down between Day and Martell. Have you read any comments on this article? After dreaming up some of the worst possible scenarios, a bunch of grown men/women start bashing a teenager for making, what he believes is the best life choice for himself. All of this even after Mrs Martell's tweets hinted at the fact that they felt they were lied to. Yet all of these posts from people, who have no Idea exactly what happened? But Tate has absolutely no right to "bash Ohio State or anyone here". All I can say is. WOW!
I hope he excels in football and in life.
Well what, I totally missed it? Tate bashed OSU?
Well said! I shudder to think of some of the things I did and said at 19. Probably no one on here knows for sure what was told to Tate. I'm sure he felt like it was his job to lose here and that he put in his time. With how things went down I can't say I blame him for being upset...not saying that Day didn't do the right thing...but it's not that hard to see how he may feel betrayed.
I'm at the age now where two years seems like a month when I was 19 two years seemed like an eternity. I don't wish him any ill will and hope he does well in life. I'm sure giving more thought to what he says will come later in life.
I mostly agree with you. Personally I think that there is no way in hell that Day told Tate he wasn't going to start. He more than like told him that there would be a competition and that the read option wasn't coming back.
Urban Meyer >Jim Harbaugh for ever and ever, Amen. 0
Well thought out. Levelheaded. Rational. Are you sure you mean to comment on a fan site?!
there is also the 3rd type of fan - the one who can see tate was a little on the small side and, outside of his running ability, didn't have a whole lot else to offer. i hope he does have some success in miami since i know it was a disappointment for him here. but, if fields can start this year, it's not hard to see he's a big upgrade over martell.
There's also a 4th kind of person (1 at least); Those of us that really don't care what Tate does now that he departed tOSU and is sick of hearing about him, respectfully. Go Bucks!
"Cause I couldn't go for three!"
I am there with you really don't care what happened where he ends up. Life is more important than you what a 1920 roll does for his collegiate career
Love your comment, especially about “humility”. Unfortunately, this valuable personal trait is going by the wayside, on to the scrap heap along with the term “illegal”, etc...
In Tate’s case, I don’t blame him for leaving... He signed up for Urban Meyer’s offense, and now the game has changed... At the same time, check your ego at the door— don’t demonstrate your flaws and immaturity... We have all done so, and later regretted it... I am sure Tate is feeling some of that now. However, I wish him all the best— his personality and skill set seem ideal for the “U”... After waking to all this ice and snow this morning, at least the weather will be better.
Good luck Tathan...
4th group, happy this shit is over with. I honestly don't know how good he is, never really saw him play a meaningful down I can recall. Throughs up the tough guy thing about JF. And is now on to another destination. Literally the most dramatic unimportant player loss for me right now. Maybe it will suck, maybe it won't, I don't care because it is now over and we can focus on the good options going forward.
You have to be trolling. Nobody could accidentally be this obtuse....

trolling with facts like... we'll have 0 QBs that have taken a snap at OSU this year no matter what Day does.
It's amazing how angry everyone gets over just pointing out the obvious.
Acting like this cannot possibly work for you in real life lol
And Trevor Lawerence had taken zero snaps at Clemson before he arrived and then got handed the keys to the Ferrari. Seems to have worked out for them. The fact that the QBs in the house have taken no game snaps for the school means a big fat nothing to predict how the coming season will turn out.
I don't buy one goddam drop of gas in the state of Michigan!
He's living in the past is all. Not to long ago it wasn't an ideal situation. Now these high schoolers arrive on campus polished and ready.
18 Saturdays till kickoff
And lets not forget a guy named JT who had zero snaps at OSU along with a very raw Cardale Jones in 2014.....how did that work out again??
Gotta love it.
I understand the Ferrari analogy but every time I can't help but think of how unreliable those cars are... They rarely make it 500 miles without major maintenance and repairs that costs 10's of thousands of dollars.
Should Day have just said no thanks to Fields, the highest recruit in OSU history?
I understnad the way it all worked out leaves us thin at the QB position, but you cannot blame a coach for bringing in elite talent because it might scare off some lesser talents (or anyone).
My favorite part is when you blamed Day for Haskins going pro.
"I don't think you necessarily have to get a trophy to be a winner." - Nick Saban 1/2/15.
He must also blame Day for JT staying for his 18th season and fu*king up the QB schedule.
My favorite part is when you blamed Day for Haskins going pro.
Wow! That is how you (and 30 other people) interpreted "All this at the same time that DH is leaving too".
I know right? That's never happened here before. I would hate to have the same outcome the last time we tried that. (/s)
Technically Chugonov had like one snap against Oregon State...
Fields was on board b4 Tate fled.
Mathis is a flake, and might be addition by subtraction.
Curtis? Who the heck is that?
Baldwin may have very well have beat out Tate w/ no Fields.
Let's wait and see if Day can grab a quality 4th QB, b4 declaring Armageddon.
You’re shit at trolling

I saw a UFO once.......it told me to have a goodyear!
The moment Kory Curtis decided to leave is when I knew Day would be a failure at OSU. How can we go on as a program without Kory Curtis?
As soon as you said Kory Curtis you went from having a hot take to being a troll
Tate has earned whatever dislike he has gained. The guy has said some pretty stupid things.
As for the rest, for somebody who wants to put things in perspective, you are doing a bang up one sided job of it.
Kory Curtis? Really? You're going to use the transfer of Kory Curtis as ammo for your argument that Day is screwing up the QB situation here? Thats 1 way to go I guess.

Thanks Tate for giving it your best shot.
Thanks Tate for what? Running away from competition?
I guess in the end, it was a big thanks for nothing.
He’s a Pat Benatar fan.
“SWING!....... SWING!!........ SWING!!!!!!!”
We're about the same size....I wonder if I could have his Ohio State swag?
Tathan's maturity level hasn't grown since he was in high school. He is nowhere near ready to Captain the ship that is The Ohio State University. After seeing what his mom and he said on Twitter and to the media, I don't have any interest in wishing this kid well.

what did his mom say? Her account is private now?

Thanks Tathan, but Miami is ass my dude.
He's going there for the ass, my dude.
Well I hope he treats him right.
Oh, I see what you did there...

Tate obvioulsy took a look at Miami's QBs and thought "they're ass". Seriously
He’s Tathan his talents to Thouth Beath.
Outstanding work right here. Wish I could give you more upvotes
I didn't know Mike Tyson was on Eleven Warriors!
I'm still waiting to hear if Ryan Day should cut ties with him though it if we need to be ready to accept him back?
Dude. He’s leaving
Thinking Bucks19 was being sarcastic.
I’m hoping Loubuck was being sarcastic.
Yes. My stance has been he's been gone since his name hit the portal even though plenty of folks thought if actually might just be testing the waters.
Poster said “I'm still waiting to hear if Ryan Day should cut ties with him though it if we need to be ready to accept him back?”
Long after Martell announced he was transferring. There was no cutting ties or not. He was already out the door
You must have missed the forum post about whether Ryan Day should cut him loose and just revoke his scholarship or keep him around to see if he will ultimately stay.
Sarcasm was turned up to 11.
To be cheered on by hundreds....
Lol. True, but wish him the best.
Good luck Tate
Of course. Hope he balls out down there.
I agree. It's not like we're going to play him in the playoffs or anything. Haha
I agree. It's not like we're going to play him in the playoffs or anything. Haha
I see what you're saying. I just wonder if Miami will make it to the playoffs?
The twitter announcement graphic is lame, the turnover-chain is lame, their fan-base is lame and the U is just lame.
I will though cheer for Tate against Clemson.
Ouch. I hadn't yet thought of him playing Clemson... That should go over real well! Remember how awesome our read option offense did against them the last time we played? That one could get ugly
I hadn't yet thought of him playing Clemson... That should go over real well!
the turnover-chain is lame

I hope he likes losing to them.
Pretty sure he's going to have a ride awakening against them. Zone read wasnt working to well last time. He better put his cup on backwards.
To be cheered on by hundreds....
Try "tens of hundreds!"
"If you're not changing, you're falling behind."
Nope, KBonay had it right (if not a bit too optimistic)
Well it’s obvious competing with quality players wasn’t on his list of things to do... apparently Tathan doesn’t know that the U is booty!
Urban Meyer left an incredible legacy. 12/4/18 Ryan Day begins his.
Stay classy, 11Wers...
Best of luck tø Tate. I hope he beats everybody but the Buckeyes.
No, if they play another Big Ten team other than ttun I don't want them to win.
I gotta say, I agree with your sentiment. However, his destination is a program I have hated for decades. This is different from Burrow. Joe was an Ohio kid. Never ran his mouth to the press. Quietly went down to z
LSU. This situation has a lot of smack talk, followed by a transfer to one of the douchiest programs in history.
Is it still classy if I say that this seems like a perfect pairing?

What we can't do in the air we'll do on the ground.
Yep. He's soo small they wont have to flush a second time.
Indeed, another scholarship to give to a deserving walk-on perhaps. The u is a perfect destination for tm as they boast 24/7 w/out ever accomplishing anything.
Going from a head coach who's a qb guru to a head coach who's a defense wannabe ... on a good day. No pun intended.
Richt left a sinking ship so tm should fit right in.
Whenever you find yourself on the side of the majority, it is time to pause and reflect. ~ Mark Twain
Sinking-not really. Grounded on a sandbar and Richt was classy enough to know he couldn't get it back on course-absolutely.
Will he have to sit this season due to transfer rules? I find it hard to believe he will graduate or be granted hardship waivers.
He will certainly try to say he was mislead by the staff and use Urban retiring as his reasoning. Hard to predict if they buy it or not.
A coach retirement is NOT a hardship case.
But an “intolerable” work environment is—among other reasons, he’ll probably cite Fields following his sister on Instagram as creating a climate too unhealthy for him to work in. If Patterson and Fields can hire a mouthpiece, I’m sure Martell will have one, too.
He played in only five games and after the Tulane game, didn’t throw a pass and rushed only four times. Considering Antonio Williams was somehow cleared at UNC after playing and scoring three TDs for Ohio State in 2017, I don’t know what’s going to stand in Martell’s way of building a comparable case.
I would say tate having his head coach leave gives him a better case than fields... I can't see field's case going anywhere.
You think the NCAA is more open to a coach leaving as a reason for transfer than someone calling you the n-word at a football game?
A coach retiring due to health reasons, or however you want to qualify Urban retiring, is not the same as a coach leaving to take another job after recruiting players to play for him.
I'm sure an attorney who does cases like Fields and refuses Martell's case would know better than any of us.
Bro... What are you doing? You can't be serious
I would say you really really want attention.
I would say tate having his head coach leave gives him a better case than fields... I can't see field's case going anywhere.
Critical thinking has never been your strong suit, so I guess the only appropriate response would be "bless your heart"
He already used his redshirt year. From what I understand, he can only get a 6th year for medical reasons
I don't think it is. I said he would TRY to get a waiver and probably use that as his reasoning. Never said I agreed with it or think it would work.
I think that is problematic with the tweets he sent out after Urban retired about competing. The only thing he could possibly hang his hat on if it happened is that Day told him one thing before Fields came in and then a totally different story after Fields came in about the offense or Tate's position with the team. Get ready for some off season drama if Tate applies for immediate eligibility.
Don’t know what’s been said behind closed doors. Maybe he goes the route of ‘Coach who recruited me retired’. Could have been told by Day he doesn’t fit system. Ohio State may not contest any hardship (again, this could have been discussed).
Dude, if you can hardship transfer because your coach freaking retired then the entire hardship transfer system is a humongous joke .
I could see the NCAA following the logic-chain of, "we have to grant Mr. Field's waiver or else mainstream media might criticize us, and then we have to grant Mr. Martell's as well or else that wouldn't be fair".
What would be unfair is Tate being granted a hardship and Fields not. In my opinion, both ran away from competition but it’s going to be harder for the NCAA to reject Fields without being accused of tolerating racism. As potential PR disasters go...
Urban Meyer’s sudden retirement (that he had no idea would happen until late December) brought upon a new offense that he wouldn’t fit in at all.
That could easily be approved.
"Go out there, make plays, they'll remember your name forever. FOREVER!" - J.T. Barrett
Not when the new head coach was the previous 2 seasons OC and said player had been in the system and repeatedly said how well he got along with the new coach.
I think in Tate's mind, anything outside exactly what he wants is considered a hardship.
The hardship waiver system is less of a joke than forcing kids who sit out a year when they transfer, honestly.
I understand what you are saying, but it is the only defense against a "free agency" type off season. Impossible to plan for recruiting if you have 5 or 15 transfers. I think after 3 years at one school, you are free to transfer without sitting a year.
And yes I understand this seems hypocritical with us bringing in Fields for immediate eligibility. I said I didn't like the rules, but no reason not to use to your advantage.
I have to wonder how many U players are now following Tathan's sister's IG.
The bigger concern is he throws as much shade as he can think of Ohio State's way in an attempt to get a waiver. Embelish the Zach Smith situation a bit, exaggerate or fabricate some things that Urban said to him, something along those lines. I'm not saying he would do something like that, I don't know the dude, but I don't think it's out of the realm of possibility that a kid who badly wants to play and has shown a little immaturity would fling as much poo as possible at the wall and hope something sticks.
Yep, that’s pretty much my theory. Create the perception of a climate of chaos, subterfuge and lies, throw upon so much smoke and mirrors that sifting through it becomes exhaustive to the point that the NCAA finally throws up its hands and calls it quits.
It absolutely slays me that college football has become this insane game of musical chairs, especially for QBs. Jalen Hurts starts as a true freshman at Alabama and three QBs transfer out; three years later, he’s transferred out. Kelly Bryant takes Clemson to the CFP, loses his staring job to Trevor Lawrence and transfers, which was after Hunter Johnson had already transferred to Northwestern. Joe Burrow went to LSU and at least two QBs immediately transferred. Baker Mayfield and Kyler Murray both transferred to Oklahoma. Three of Harbaugh’s last four starting QBs were transfers and the one who wasn’t (Wilton Speight) transferred to UCLA. And on and on and on it goes, where it stops, nobody knows.
Iowa- you do realize all those QBs weren’t immediately eligible to play right? Burrow was a graduate transfer and Hurts will be. Tate will have to sit a year. This is all true all positions on the football field.
Nature of QBs is that if you're a backup you barely have a chance to prove yourself. Coaches used to go with seniority at the position a lot back in the day, especially since back then most QBs were more game managers than anything else. I do hope it eventually settles down a little more than how it is now, but I totally understand why QBs transfer so much.
But the problem is his tweets and comments pre-rose bowl...that went against transferring at all with no mention of anything else.
You're too stupid to have a good time. -Dalton
That's right, Johnny. Tate's tweets are at the heart of this.
If his Mom's tweets are any indication, this could be an even messier divorce than we realize.
Personally, I wish Tate would have been mature enough to not say what he did in the interviews and tweets. Bad look, especially when you almost immediately transfer. Still, I feel for the kid. Tough situation. And thank God twitter didn't exist when I was a mouthy college kid.
Any criticism of Ryan Day in this scenario is absurd. We needed another QB and he went out and got the best player available. The chance to play in Ryan Day's advanced passing game was the #1 reason Fields chose the Bucks over a lot of really good options.
Each of the truly elite teams in the country have faced similar QB controversies over the last couple of years and come out ahead for it and if Fields stays healthy, we will too.
Is he even in school this semester? And he already transferred to Miami? I'm thinking the grad transfer rule only applies if he transfers AFTER graduation. What a move - just so you can be with your friends from high school. This was planned long ago.
One chapter closed, on to the next. Good luck.
"Because I couldn't go for three"
I’ve cheered on Joe Burrow, Antonio Williams, Noah Spence, Torrance Gibson as they left. Not this one boys. This is addition by subtraction believe me
Considering what Gibson got in trouble for at OSU I'd cheer for Tate over him.
And what exactly did Gibson get in trouble for? There was speculation, but nothing concrete.
It wasn’t speculation. It was a university policy violation that Urban pretty much said he didn’t agree with.
Allegedly videotaping himself having sex with a tutor without her consent. If that is true Gibson is worse than Tate.
For hooking up with his Tutor? C’mon. Torrance didn’t turn his social media into a junior high girl’s breakup page. And his 50 year old mom wasn’t posting memes and trashing the team. And Torrance’s mouth wasn’t writing 50 checks his ass couldn’t cash every time you put a mic in front of him. And most of all he didn’t quit. Young men make mistakes but Tate’s not making any mistakes. He’s been this way for years. Ashamed I never noticed until recently and with the QB1 show
Not the hooking up part. The videotaping it without her consent part. That was just completely wrong on his part.
Whoa whoa whoa. That is NOT what happened. HE sent HER some pics/messages of himself via Snapchat. The snaps were from while they were still hooking up. She decided that they were inappropriate after the fact. Do you think the coaching staff would have publicly put themselves on the line in his defense if he had been accused of that? Do you think Cincy would have signed him if he had been accused of that? The internet is wild lol
I agree. Wished Spence and Gibson the best but didn't keep up with them because they were no longer at FBS schools which made it harder. I followed Burrow very heavily this season and will do the same next year. It looked like Williams had a pretty solid year at UNC, which i was happy to see.; he did split carries but still had a couple 100-yard games and averaged 5.5 per carry. I hate Miami and, as for Martell, if he would've fought for the job through Spring and then transferred because he lost I would've understood. But all of his antics in response to the Fields news to then not even compete tells me he's not somebody you want on your team.
Granted I do think it's important for us to pick up a grad transfer QB so we don't have a lack of depth (especially if Fields isn't granted eligibility), I never thought that Martell transferring was a huge loss.
***disclaimer. I don’t wish any ill will on Tate or anything. I’m just glad he and his family aren’t our problem anymore. If he wins in Miami, great. If he loses, I don’t care.
Cheer all you want, but Chugunov is your only QB right now.
Until we get word that Fields is eligible or Baldwin is officially healthy.
It was an ACL, Baldwin is fine. This isn't 1970 anymore.
Stay golden, Ponyboy.
"your" or "our" troll?
Chugunov could be the next Craig Krenzel. That seemed to work out well for the good guys. And we beat Miami, too.
I love your determination to make us ride the Chug Express. It brings joy to my morning.
No doubt this dude’s chick left him for a Buckeye in Ashtabula.
Why did this get greyed out. Dude.. I don't understand the moral and integrity policies of this forum i guess. I don't understand how this an offensive or outlandish comment in anyway? Due to this and a recent influx of toxic comments/serial dvers i may be taking my self back to reddit. I mean, Ash is right. Also the 1970s comment was condescending and rude as fuck. ACL tear is an ACL tear, it requires a serious reconstructive surgery that is now being found out to almost indefinitely cause knee arthritis. Not everybody recovers from them either. My friend who PLAYED D1 football and was a great athlete had it completely derail his career and he was also a qb pocket passer. After acl tears, knee instability can last for years if not forever if surgery didn't go slightly as planned(which happens). Knee instability and muscular imbalance can completely mess with his mind, how he plants his foot, how he launches off his foot when he throws etc.. So to all those people who think just because its not "1970" people with ligament tears will be fine, you're wrong. Double major in exercise science in information tech here so i'm not a moron when it comes to this subject.
We all know even more people who have successfully recovered from an ACL injury. A quick short list of a a few of the more popular names who blew ACL in the past....
Tom Brady, Adrian Peterson, Rob Gronkowski, JJ Watt, Teddy Bridgewater, Al Harrington, Al Jefferson, Baron Davis, Jamal Crawford,
I think it is addition by subtraction as well. I shouldn't be shamed for being happy that a kid who's immaturity caused him to run his mouth and then hide the moment it got tough for him decided to leave. There are plenty of kids that age who do and say the right things, for starters, nearly every starting quarterback in OSU history excluding Pryor (everybody steals, everybody kills) and I don't think people who like those kids over the ones who talk tough and then quit is a bad thing.
I wish Tate the best of luck in Miami and will be rooting for him as long as it doesn't hurt the Bucks.
"Your focus determines your reality."
I suspect that none of us will be rooting for him by the time spring comes around. Look for him to throw as much shit as humanly possible at OSU, it's players and staff.
His personality will fit in just fine here. He will probably have a decent college career before fading off into oblivion while trying his best to jumpstart his fledgling professional career as a Vanilla Ice tribute performer.
"When I look in the mirror, I want to take a swing at me."
Wayne Woodrow Hayes
Tathan and Miami are a perfect fit. All flash, no substance. I would not be surprised if he does not beat out Perry and Williams, and has to transfer again.
Louisville and West Virginia would have been better choices for Tate Martell, the player. Neal Brown is an offensive wizard, who will shape his scheme to best fit his personal. Scott Satterfield utilizes his QB in the run game, and their QB's should be easier to beat out. As a bonus, both of the expected starters have one less year of eligibility than Tate, as opposed to Miami's situation.
Shut this thread down. We have the winning comment right here.
Transferring gives him the opportunity to talk a lot while not competing for another year. Right in the sweet spot!
Fare thee well.
Hope he can hang an L on Clemson. Tired of Clemson having a cakewalk into the playoffs every year.
no guarantee he even wins the job down there
If Tate does win the job the one thing I hope is that he puts a hurt on Clemson so there cake walk conference will be no longer.
"The most important statistic, is the number of wins in a season".........Woody Hayes
I also would like to see Clemson face some real competition during the season but a Tate-led offense isn't going to enough to challenge them... Clemson will shut them out
They don't even play Clemson in 19, 20, or 21. It'd have to be in a conference title game. You're right though Clemson plays nobody. If they beat Notre Dame early next year their toughest game is uh...Syracuse I think. Red carpet to the playoffs. It's too bad South Carolina is always so bad.
At least they are playing ND so we don't have that situation again.
I'd say it's last year's Clemson/ND game that keeps that from happening this year. 12&0 ND team not getting in again for at least 2 years.
"cause I couldn't go for three"
Best of luck, Tate. Enjoy the sunshine!
Good to see, or hear, you back. Aloha!
Ua Mau ke Ea o ka 'Aina I ka Pono. The life of the land is preserved in righteousness. (Hawai'i state motto) Aloha nui kakou.
Whatever. I still contend that it's a shame he didn't stick around to compete for the job here. I certainly don't wish him any ill will, but I'm also not going to root for him.
I just wish he would have left more like Burrow did where it would be easy to root for him. As is, I’ll prolly still root for him somewhere deep down unless he tries to trash our team or coaches.
Little man Tate in little Havana...... seems legit. Best of luck.
Hey Cancer! This ass kicking is brought to you by the Sultan of the sythe. Give it hell CalPoppy.
what a competitor
Hope to God that Fields is eligible this fall.
I wish Martell success at Miami, but I can’t pretend that I think he has handled everything well. The guy talked and talked about how excited he was to be our QB, how confident he was about being the best guy on the field, and then he bails.
"Woody would have wanted it that way"
Well, he talks a big game, so we know The U is a perfect fit!
He had me fooled during the Rose Bowl media days. I thought he was gonna stay and fight Fields for it. Oh well, that makes the decision easier for Ryan Day! Good luck, Tate, we hardly knew ye!
If now Fields has to wait and Tate doesn't we'll know Dabo and Nicky arranged all of this!
"The only good thing about it is winning the d*** thing" - Urban Meyer on The Game The War
He fooled you? Really? If you didn’t see this a mile away, I’m at a loss for words. Seriously.
Haha I have only got through the first episode of QB1, maybe it'll become more obvious as I get caught up. I'm old school, if you say over and over you won't leave, you'll stay and compete, that's usually what you do haha.
You're too nice, Crumb. Since this guy has such foresight, you should ask him for his betting line against the spread, and what the heck, how about for his stock picks too.
So Silver. You never saw this coming? Really? If he stayed and was beat out in the spring he was leaving.
Yes. I and anyone who was paying attention could see this a mile away.
And I made some nice mad money this past fall betting for it’s worth.
Crumb, what’s the easiest way to watch QB1? I tried searching online and didn’t find any outlet that I have access to.
I watched Season 2 on rated red a few weeks ago... Not sure if its still up or not... Think Season 1 and 2 are on Netflix...
Awesome! Thank you, Shaun!
1) Tate didn’t start last year due to the top qb taken in the draft.
2) And now to a kid who is already the #4 fav to win a Heisman this year (that didn’t sven start a college game yet).
...And Tate doesn’t think he can learn and be the best he can be? So he leaves?
Yeah, and you'd think he'd feel like he had some kind of edge having worked with Urban, Day, and Dwayne for two seasons, as well as J.T. for one.
Yeah, Netflix is where I got it, my friend.
Asking for a friend: how many college football players get mani/pedis with nail polish? (QB1)
Got the mani with clear polish one time!...I know, I know, but it was as a favor for a girl in beauty school who needed people to practice on and she was smoking hot! Do I get to retain the man-card?
Cool beans. Wish the kid luck in Coral Gables and I'm glad this all over.
I am happy for him and hope he is successful. Now let’s move on and let the drama go...Hope his family is happy. #turn the page...#GoBucks
Tate is now the Fields in Miami's program. When will one of their other 3 QBs announce their transfer?
Definitely irony to how he arrived, driving out Clark when he signed, and how he left, becoming the Fields to some QB at Miami’s Tate. All the while acting upset when it happened to him.
Somewhere, Clark is wearing a huge smile of irony.
I forgot about Clark all togethere...where did he end up? Been a few years and to many recruits ago lol
Ohio born and bred- "Nothing that comes easy in this world is worth a damn" - Woody
he was at kentucky, but announced he was going to transfer. not sure where he's going though... *ahem* we have an opening...
Can you imagine if he come BACK to OSU what would he do with that lion tattoo that used to be block O?
Make no mistake, Miami will be good in 2019. Wouldn’t be surprised to see them in national championship contention. They have a good defense, but never had a good offense.
Tate is heading to a system that would LOVE to employ his dual threat abilities. He’s also getting receivers he’s already played with at Bishop Gorman.
Im thinking Tate hasn’t really transferred, but will finish his classes, Graduate in May then transfer. Since he’s not on the football team anymore he still gets his head start on learning the new offense.
Miami will continue to suck and Tate may not be their starting QB next year.
And he probably won’t even be eligible next year.
OSUCOM 2008 Graduate. Go Bucks!
dude, Miami is horrible
Miami was ranked inside the top ten in the 2017 season. Had it not been for their anemic offense they would have won the ACC.
The same ACC that includes Clemson?
If you watched them in 2017 you could see how overrated they really were and it caught up with them by the end of the season.
Doesn't matter CFB is all about the coach. Meyer went to Bowling Green and dominated then Utah and Florida and OSU all the same. The coach picks the players, the coaches, builds the program, trains the player and coaches etc. It is a head coach game. All this to say it doesn't matter how Miami was this year. They have a new coach and at least as a coordinator Manny Diaz was legit. Will it translate to the head coaching job? Who knows but his resume solid and deserves to be a D1 head coach at a storied program.
You serious Clark? The guy that got fired at Texas when his defense gave up damn near 600 rushing yards against BYU? The guy replaced by Greg Robinson? The best job Diaz has done was at Miss St, the rest of his tenure has been average at best. Even his time at the U as coord was average. They beat up on crap ACC teams and when they played a team that punched them back they buckled; see against Wisconsin 2017. He was a lazy hire out of convenience by Miami. He’ll be fired within 5 years. Not that I care but Martell should have gone to WVU. Way more upside there, but seeing as he likes talking a lot with no action it’s a perfect fit for him at Miami.
That's great. Please go to a Miami board and post since you love them so much.
I believe it is has been reported that Tate graduating this summer, is not a possibility.
The U's national championship days are long gone.
Tate doesn't have enough arm to beat good defenses... He'll look fantastic against bad teams but they'd get embarrassed by good squads.
An elusive run first QB can win many games and set numerous records. As long as those games aren't against major programs with elite defenses. 31 - 0 is ugly and there's no denying that. Our guy was accomplished also.
I'm confident that Tate's track to Miami will be another Hurricane to weather in south Florida.
Best of luck, Mr. Martell.
I am not very smart, but I recognize that I'm not very smart. --- W.W. Hayes
It'll all blow over soon.
Downgraded to a tropical depression
Wind levels were too small. Just kind of quit.
I have so many emotions swirling around right now.
So Fields to tOSU and now the amazing dream of some that we see Jalen Hurts to tOSU could become a reality too. We will know if Fields can play in the next 4- 6 weeks. Would that be crazy or what?
Hurts is at Oklahoma
That's not even decided yet, let alone confirmed.
I heard Hurt was going to Maryland as they've hired current Alabama offensive coordinator Mike Locksley as their head coach.
If the world comes to an end, I want to be in Cincinnati. Everything comes there ten years later. - Mark Twain
Why on earth would Hurts see Ohio State as a transfer destination?
If fields isn’t eligible.
He's deciding soon, he's not gonna wait anywhere near long enough to see if Fields is eligible or not.
I wish him well, but he gets the red violater banner treatment on 11w? Really? I get that it's breaking news, but honestly, isn't time we act like we've been here before and just leave it as a Buckshot
"I don't apologize for anything. When I make a mistake, I take the blame and go on from there." - Woody Hayes
Best of luck to tou, Tate. Sorry it didn’t work out here at OSU.
Round on the ends and "HI" in the middle. O-HI-O.
Said my peace, already moved on.
I'm not around that much, running exhausted and lost...
Only good luck
Wish I'd seen him play more because I have not much of an idea what we've missed. Not much of anything interesting called when he was in--which I guess says something considering the playcalling in 2018.
Go get 'em Tate. Slay the giants in conferences far away, like our other wayward QB... Joey B.
Pain heals. Chicks dig scars. Glory... lasts forever.
Agreed. He's done nothing different than Jeaux. Go get 'em Tate. Beat Dabo.
"The future is bright at Ohio State." - Urban Meyer 1/1/15
He has done something different indeed...Joe never had major twitter fingers or his mommy talking down on tOSU, Joe tried to win the starting job and didnt so then he transferred. Joe and Tate are two different people and it shows. I still wish Tate the best tho.
To bad there’s so many haters on this site! The dude is gone....let it go!!! For all the posters referencing “Tathan” grow up & act like you have an IQ!!! Ok, start downvoting me now...no worries, I don’t come here much anymore anyways!!!
I'll upvote. All these idiots on this site act like they know how they would handle these situations. The kid wants to play and can see the writing on the wall with Day. Just a bunch of losers that only have OSU football in their lives
Love couch potato coaches
Did you two kiss him and hug him on the way out the door, or did you go full reach around. The kid said he'd compete. He either lied or couldn't stand the heat. Either way, I know exactly how I would've handled it at his age, and that would have been with class and dignity. That's not how he chose to handle it.
Hugs & reach arounds....yup, that’s classy!! Keep postin bro...I’m impressed!
About as classy as randomly calling people haters and questioning their intelligence, I guess. That's a rare type comment from me, so I'm not concerned with being judged by you. Again, Tate handled this situation poorly, at best, leaving him open to any criticism levied at him, much like you with your original nonsense.
Truth hurts I guess. People like brutus only see one side. The minute it's not what they want to hear they trash.
And I'm sure loser 0717 handled every situation perfectly at 19. What a joke. They guy is talking about reach arounds now. Hilarious
First of all, check the record, I've never trashed Tate one time. Second, I don't care if he ever played a down for the Buckeyes, I root for who is here and bought in. I'm a loser? That's the joke. At 19, just as today, i did what I said I would do. It's called being genuine and being a man. Not calling people losers from behind a keyboard. But you do you, big guy.
Just like like saying i kissed Tate and did reach arounds from a keyboard there tough guy.
I did plenty of dumb shit at 19, and into my 20's, but just because I was young doesn't mean it still wasn't dumb shit. Tate behaved immaturely and he ran his mouth in a way that doesn't look good, 19 or not. No need to trash the kid but it still looked poor and it's not unreasonable for someone to be rubbed the wrong way. I still wish him the best and hope he kills it on the field - so long as he stops throwing shade OSU's way.
So easy to say you know what you would have done in his shoes, but sadly, you were never and would never be in his shoes. The kid is an elite talent that hasn’t even gotten a real shot because he has been behind an entrenched QB and then the best Qb in big ten history. He threw for outrageous HS stats against some of the most elite competition in the country and never lost a game as a starter. You say you know what you would do and that’s easy to do looking at it from your perspective. I don’t blame him one bit for leaving. I wouldn’t want to play for a fan base that literally turned on me the moment a QB from another school expresses interest in coming to tOSU. And the only reason people turned on him is because the guy trying to come here has been dubbed the next cam newton and a generational talent. As much as a lock as it can be for a recruit. If it was any other recruit or a 4 star QB trying to come in, people would not have turned on him and started fawning over the new transfer and creating these ridiculous narratives or tate not being able to throw a football. You all made it out to be like going with him as our starter would have been going back to inept JT offense, except that martell can throw downfield better at this stage in their careers than JT could and he is also a much better athlete than JT. Quicker and faster. Probably not as strong through the tackles tho. Bunch of idiots behind keyboard acting like they would do things better than him when they can only dream of it. I believe what most of you tough guys on here would call “losers”.
For my part, I never turned on the kid. I was excited to see a QB competition between Tate and Fields. I think Tate could have done very well here. Day has been quoted as saying he would tailor an offense around his QB's strengths, so I believe the offense would have some read option elements to play to Tate's strengths. I'm not sure if there was a meeting behind closed doors that made Tate want to transfer, and neither is anyone else on these boards. My problem has only been about the Twitter comments and the interviews. Tate and I are vastly different people in that regard, so yes, I know that I would have done things differently at that age or even younger.
Of course he wants to play but I suspect alot of shit slinging towards OSU by the Martell family coming very soon. Burrow left on good terms. Tate, not so much
For real these people are crazy blind to the obvious. We don't know what happened that caused Tate to leave. Everyone wants to hate him even though he gave his all to the program while he was here and played lights out for us the few times he got on the field (some TDs and like 83% passing or something insane). These people are no different than the Florida fans that hated Meyer once he left.
Here is all we need to know about what happened:
Tate didn't like sitting behind Haskins (the guy that just shattered OSU record books)
Tate didn't like that Fields would possibly come in
Tate talked a bunch of trash about how Fields shouldn't come, and that it didn't matter anyway because he was going to win the starting job.
As soon as Fields confirmed coming, a week after Tate said all of this, Tate decided that he didn't want to do the work to win the job that he said he was going to do.
That's about it there fella. Also, Tate, is that you?
Joe Burrow had insane numbers as well. What someone does in mop up duty doesn’t necessarily mean it’s going to translate as a starter. You’re crying about a guy who talked trash about Fields and guaranteed he would beat him out. If you’re going trash talk at least try and compete in the spring. I’m more disappointed that Martell was all talk. I was looking forward to a QB competition.
Yeah, well…that’s just like, your opinion, man.
I don’t come here much anymore anyways
The will to win is not as important as the will to prepare to win. -- Woody Hayes
Good luck Tate! I’ll be rooting for you!
Good luck tater - wonder how this all plays out.
Go get'em Cal Poppy - we are behind you !!
It's not a rivalry .............. it's a wreckoning.
How he's carried himself through this process has been so unproffessional and off-putting that I no longer have any rooting interest for him whatsoever. Adios, Tathan.
Well, I’m happy that’s over.
Quarterback recruiting seems so silly.
Do you think he even considered not being able to win the starting job at Miami?
I season my simple food with hunger
Well...good luck kid.
Looks like I'll have to continue not caring about Miami football.
Only thing this saga was missing was an "I'm taking my talents to South Beach"
You can't spell quit without the U.
Don Brown must've attended night school, because he got owned by Day.
lol. So he says Justin Fields hasn't put 1 second into the Ohio St program. Well guess what Tate, you haven't put one second into Miami's program. I wish you nothing but failure for your cowardice, shit talking because that's all you could do. He will transfer again once he loses the qb competition down there. People will Don vote but watch QB1, then add his tweets and comments, and you will not see a competitor, you will see an entitled little punk
Successful people do what they have to, whether they feel like it or not
How classic would it be if we were sitting neck and neck with Clemson to get into the playoffs and he beat them with Miami to put us in.
Clemson could have 3 losses and ESPN would say how they deserve to be in the playoff
Depth at QB is definitely a concern now if Justin Fields has to sit out the 2019 season. Red Shirt Fr Matthew Baldwin and Graduate Student Chris Chugunov are the only quarterbacks on scholarship, and I believe Kory Curtis is a walk-on QB. Day and Yurcich are definitely good at developing QBs, but they definitely will have a lot of work cut out for them if Fields does not gain immediate eligibility.
And I totally forgot about Daniel Vanatsky, who is another walk-on QB, so only two other QBs on scholarship and the other remaining two QBs as walk-ons, but my point still stands.
His arrogance and attitude would have fit right in with the U of about 20 years ago. Now hes just a cocky guy on a dogshit team.
"In times of difficulty, those brave enough to stay the course will still be inferior to Ohio State in the end" -Bo Schembechler
Well, I thought he would fight it out, but he didn't. Good luck with that, Miami.
Whatever. We don't need controversy or people that think they're guaranteed starters. We're The Ohio State University and we don't play that game. You come to play for us or get out.
"We get paid to score touchdowns, not kick field goals"
-- Urban Meyer
Does anyone else instantly see "Miami" and instantly get that good shiver circa 2002.. Ohhh
He's so fast he makes fast people look, not fast
I hadn't caught that Miami's coach quit. I need to work less.
We may never know, but I honestly think we dodged a bullet here. The writing was on the wall that at minimum there would have been lots of friction had fields and Tate (and Baldwin) had to square off in spring and fall camp.
But with Tate's recent antics I think we could have had the potential of another "August surprise" if things hadn't gone his way and he decided to go all scorched earth just weeks before the season started. I think he would have gone full blown toxic (and public) with the mud slinging and the temper tantrum and it would be yet another "black eye" for the program for the media to spin. I'm not sure I can take another preseason soap opera like last year, and I wouldn't be surprised if "Drama" is Tathan's middle name.
Guess what I am really saying is... Tate and the "U" deserve each other, good riddance, and go Bucks!
"No we don't give a da*n 'Bout the whole state of *ichigan"
i hate Clemson as much as anybody but Purdue is no juggarnaut...all we had to do is beat them and we were in.... 11-1<12-0
He better hope there won’t be competition at the q.b. spot
I hope he likes losing to Wisconsin.
Im just gonna say that Day prides himself on changing the offense to the players and there talents. So I don't believe he told the kid he was last in the pecking order.
I also believe that Tate had every intention to compete for the job. I think someone was in his ear IE friend or family member. At the same time I've seen tweets from Martell that suggest he doesn't want competition. I don't know but it could be a combination of everything stated. I just know I hate everything The U but wish him well. If his family forced him to makes the decision at least someone knew about what Fields could bring under the right coahing and didn't sugar coat shit with Tate. I don't care about leaving cause these coaches leave for less with no restriction. I wish him well would have like to seen a true Qb competition. The kid is young and he's at the right place for all that twitter talk. That kind of stuff don't fly here anyway.
$10 says he has to sit a year. I don’t see the NCAA giving him the waiver
Possible but I think Miami has better odds than us of this turning out good. Fields is very unlikely to get a waiver. At least Tate can say his coach left. I'm not sure Fields' argument will fly unless there is something we don't know... A racist said racist things then apologized so now I can transfer??
Why do you need troll with every post. Please leave.
The closet PSU/TTUN/ND wanna be’s now come here in disguise to spew their trash. We have the highest rated recruit in the history of tOSU. Wonder if B10 too?
Happens every year. They will come back w their other profiles in August telling how great Franklin/Harbaugh/Kelly are
Did I fall asleep in a time machine last night and wake up in the 70's? When was the last time that racist remarks came off as a nothing-burger? Are you even aware of the current political-societal environment?
Ok cool. Hook em
A midnight tweet announcement fits him so perfectly. Glad this is over. Move on with guys who don’t have one foot out the door when things get tough.
Addition by subtraction.
I was guessing the midnight release was because it took Miami's graphics department several hours to perfect that gem.
It doesn't help that their color scheme is extra cheesy.
Really on the fence with this one. Normally I am very supportive of players transferring to a better situation for them to play. Especially a QB when normally only one will play for two to three years. That being said I am disappointed after hearing all the smack that Tate was talking to not even attempt to compete for his spot. Then he is doing almost exactly what Fields has done.
He is a paper tiger, I don’t wish him ill, I don’t wish him well, I couldn’t care less.
So you care. :-P
Au revoir gopher
I Hate Michigan.
Pick up your feet, turn your corners square! And DRIVE DRIVE DRIVE!!!
Miami seems like a great fit for him. Hopefully he does well there and wins the starting spot.
i think it’s time for Buckeyenation to move on and focus on players that will be playing for us next year.
agree on all of your points,,,
16-2 is SWEET!
He should probably start next year. The one game I watched of Miami last year made me think that I could probably start there at QB & I’m almost 50.
Good luck, Tate, beat Clemson for us, would ya?
From the Lawrence Welk Stars [blows kiss]
I wonder how many times McMurphy has called Tate's parents so far. The countdown to poorly sourced and completely baseless article from McMurphy has begun...
Does he or Stadium pay sources? If not, nothing to worry about.

Absolutely. Now, “do you link your own sausage?”
I won't cheer for him as loudly as I cheered for Burrow. Might not cheer for him at all due to the things said on the way out.
But good luck young man, and may your leadership abilities grow.
Varys: I've always hated the bells. They ring for horror, a dead king, a city under siege.
Tyrion: A wedding.
Who drew first blood? There is a reason the saying, “you dance with the one who brought you” exists. Heck even the nursery rhyme about the cats from Kilkenny applies. There once were two cats from Kilkenny, each thought there was one cat to many.......they fought......and instead of two there weren’t any.
Tate came in like many thinking his resume had him in rare water. He was overwhelmed and nurtured to stay. He battled through two years trusting the system. Just as he could see light OSU cut him by bringing in the most ballyhooed QB in college save Lawerence. Game on....and then Meyer and Haskins dance with the best looking guy in the room for the whole world to see.
Right or wrong, intentional or not that was,at the least, insensitive. Tate saved face and essentially said two can play this game. I wish him the very best. I hope he’s eligible and I hope he is solid.
I hope Fields is eligible. I hope Baldwin is ready to challenge and iron sharpens iron.
The soldier is my son. The school I gone to didn’t teach much grammar.
Just as he could see light OSU cut him by bringing in the most ballyhooed QB in college save Lawerence
Yes, because it was totally realistic for him to expect that OSU would not even look at another QBs so long as he continued to bless them with presence.
This is working out for the best for Buckeyes. In the we will see on this that Day is a genius w his team and staff. Day isn’t throwing Tate under the bus, but the way Tate handles this says it all.
Makes no sense why Tate would sit out a year in Miami and then compete in husband 2nd year there to maybe start instead of a 2 year starter already there..
You telling me Tate didn’t learn from, JT, the #1 qb in the nfl draft, and now the highest rated tOSU recruit of alltime?
What exactly is Tate hoping to accomplish a team Mia? He is gettting bad advice.
Coral Gables don't suck - just sayin'
OH-IO living in SEC! SEC! Ville
I’d bet. But I why do I feel like we’ll see him in the “Below Deck” series on Bravo in a few years?
"The minute I think I'm getting mellow, I'm retiring. Whoever heard of a mellow winner."
Privately he probably wished he never made those comments. Now he comes off as a phoney and probably lost all credibility with his coaches and teammates. Once Urban retired, Martell was the square peg to Day's round hole style of offense.
I’m thinking Day laid it out for him and he wasn’t part of the future at OSU. Can’t blame the kid, Miami vs CBus in the winter will rock.
He won’t win a championship.
"and there he is... The Big Kat"
Tate also wont learn from the #1 NFL draft pick and from tOSU's highest rated recruit ever and a proven QB guru in Day.
Tate's move and sitting out this year makes zero sense if he wants to be a better QB, must have been suggested by Day.
None of us know what happened behind the scenes, but seems unlikely that Day laid anything out to him, other than we are going to accept Fields’ transfer. Why would day tell his backup QB to leave before Fields is even eligible, leaving us with, at most, 2 scholarship QBs?
Seems more like Tate got upset at the entire situation, that he would not just be handed the reigns, and left like a baby.
Eithe way, you take a player like Fields every time. If that pushed other away from competing with him then so be it, guys who run from competition probably are not guys you want on your team, anyway.
I do not wish him ill, but neither will I be cheering for him at Miami.
So Day somehow ushered him out or told him he didn’t fit. LOL. You think any head coach would punt a top qb recruit who obviously wanted to stay not very long ago with the possibility that we only have 1 or 2 scholarship qb next year? All because he’s a good runner? He probably just said it’s an open competition, and Tate/parents got butt hurt he’d have to compete for the job at a top program. That’s truly LOL.
Funny he “resolved” it by going somewhere 3 young qb will get the chance to play for a year before he can beat them out.
Guess I will look on the bright side now we have an extra scholly to offer a young man who wants to be a Buckeye.
After hearing about how “Tate’s a gamer” and “Tate’s a real competitor “ and “Tate might beat out Burrow and Haskins” and “Tate’s never lost a game” the kid has proven all those notions wrong in the last few weeks. Goodbye, Tate, I’d wish you luck, but you probably think you don’t need it
"porque las estirpes condenadas a cien años de soledad no tenían una segunda oportunidad sobre la tierra."
He's down in your neck of the woods now. Keep an eye on him for us, will ya?
I'd rather be an hour early than a minute late.
I think Tate made a big mistake. It appears likely he will have to sit out a year and that gives Perry and Williams a chance to take the job and run with it. That would make it very difficult for Tate to take the job in a year if one of those guys performs well. Let's not forget that Williams was basically the hottest QB recruit in the country after Lawrence and Fields by the end of the 2018 cycle. He is not an insignificant talent.
Tate could have shut his mouth and seen if Fields got his waiver or not. I actually am more pessimistic about Fields getting that waiver than some. It's tough to say Georgia was a bad situation for the reasons that have been discussed yet his sister has no issue going there. It's just a nonsensical argument if she indeed does attend UGA. So then Tate would have been in the drivers seat to start this year or if Fields got the waiver and won the job he could have transferred in the spring or summer. Maybe he would have enough credits to graduate at that point and not sit out. I just question the way in which Martell went about this and could see him screwing himself if he has to sit out next season. Maybe he's certain that won't happen for reasons we don't know about but on the surface I think he had a smarter path to take.
I don't think Fields' possibility of getting the waiver are worse then Shea Patterson's. Patterson's premise was that he was misled about how strong the penalty would be at Ole Miss. First off, how could anyone have known how stiff the penalty would be. Second, am I supposed to believe a program is throwing around cash and they didnt give any to their top recruit? And lastly, his brother was, and is, on staff down there. So he got a waiver because his brother lied to him? In Fields' case, for the NCAA to deny his waiver they're going to have to tell him that he shouldn't be offended by someone calling him the N-word, and they're not going to open that can of worms.
The facts are 1) The NCAA has over the last few years been much more lax in the granting of waivers for, sometimes, very weak "hardships". 2) There is, at this time, zero indication that the NCAA is about to suddenly reverse themselves and start demanding a high level of hardship in all cases. 3) Fields was called the word that shall not be said, in about as public a manner as could be done. 4) The NCAA will be torched in the press and social media if they don't grant Fields a year after granting Shea Patterson.
There are some trolls on this site trying to foment fear in regards to Fields but you can ignore them for even if the NCAA was suddenly moved to make transfers more difficult - which is complete speculation - this hill, Hill N-word, isn't the one they are going to choose to fight on.

Tater's gonna Tate....
Good luck Tate. I’m sure he’ll put on a show down there, but Miami is a “museum” program as Beau Bishop would say. Might as well wish him well because if we face him, something has gone wrong for us, because Miami isn’t making a playoff anytime soon.
We will fight to the end for OH-IO!
Took this as he crossed the Ohio...
The offseason is the longest season.
I'm glad for the little guy, moving closer to home to be with family. Hope he finds peace and happiness in his life.
Do they live in Florida now? I thought they lived in Las Vegas.
Miami is closer?
watch the two seasons of QB1 on Netflix features Tate on first season.....Fields on second....interesting
Wow. Who could have predicted that transfer destination? /s
Best of luck Tate.
Now get the hell out of here.
Someone just swung and missed! Sounds like a bad situation for Tate in that he will be sitting out 2019 and the coaching change for a dumpster fire Miami team. Should have stayed at OSU until he graduated and then transferred to a solid team with a chance to win. Gotta love his Chicken Hawk bravado. He could have at least had a shot to beat out Fields and Baldwin, but packed up how balls and left.
He can be a leader among thugs at Thug U. See ya kid.
Fuck eSECpn and fuck Mythigan.
Tathan is clearly thinking about the now, and not the future. You have 1 solid season at Ohio State, beat TTUN, win a Rose Bowl/ Playoff Game.. you're in Royalty status here in Columbus. In Miami? my guess i s you get lost in the fold.. What is Ken Dorsey up to these days?
I find it hard to believe he will see the field this year.. but best of luck to the kid, yea he went about it the wrong way, sure.. but he walked away.. wipe your hands clean and start fresh somewhere new. The first words of him trashing OSU though, and I hope he eats dirt on every snap he takes.
I guess now Ryan Day can likely avoid the QB-geddon in year 1, probably for the best of a brand new HC.
Tathan, can we keep your sister?
If you continue to think what you always thought, you will continue to get what you always got. #AlumforStaff
Looks like the Tater is afraid of competition after all.....
If you want to look at this objectively just look at the tweets from Tate's teammates. To my knowledge there has been nothing like the outpouring of support we saw from Joe Burrow's teammates. This speaks volumes. It seemed like the day after Tate's tweet indicating that "as soon as we put the read option back in....." someone probably did mention to him that the read option may not be the future OR someone (Day) may have mentioned that not agreeing with the decisions of the head coach were not to be discussed on social media is when Tate decided to enter the portal. These "kids" have handlers that try to teach them about social media and keep them between the lines. The argument that he is only 19, flies in the face of the reality that these "kids" have grown up with social media their whole lives and the words that he CHOSE to use were very well thought out. He was disparaging to a potential teammate, pretty much stated that he was entitled to be the next QB because of his tenure, told the coach about the style of offense he would employ etc.
You never get a second chance to make the first impression
Stay tuned for more episodes of the, "Man in Florida..." series!
I put this in the same category of LeBron leaving Cleveland for Miami - I have absolutely no problem with the decision (LeBron found an upgrade in teammates and a clearer path to a championship and Tate found a clearer path to PT and a system that more closely fits his skill set), but I'm not a huge fan of the way they went about it - LeBron's 'The Decision' prime time special and Tate's interviews/social media. At the end of the day, both were young and would likely do it differently if given the opportunity.
Hopefully Day can find a decent grad transfer or an overlooked project to come in as the 4th scholarship QB.
Thank you Urban Meyer and Gene Smith
A style-over-substance town like Miami seems like the perfect place for a self-appointed legend like Tathan.
The most "loud mouth, disrespect" poster on 11W.
I’ve come to collect my upvotes... https://www.elevenwarriors.com/forum/ohio-state-football/2019/01/101565/...
Tate is a young fella and made some mistakes but I still wish him well. My respect for Joe Burrow and how he handled the competition and his eventual departure has really grown this year. Nothing but class.
I think he is just Tathan Care of Business. Every day.
Born a Badger, Raised a Buckeye
Wish him the best, hope Fields is immediately eligible or we are in trouble....
He did what he thought was best for his career. Maybe he tweeted some things he should not have, but he's a young guy who is competitive and has a lot of pride, I'd say give him a pass on that, wish him well, and hold our breath that Fields gets to play this season.
Have fun getting clobbered in south beach Tate. This whole thing was just absolutely ridiculous.
Bye, bye. Fields, get eligible soon, my friend. It is go time.
Number 1 rule in life: always beat That Team Up North.
Good luck Tate...I always thought you would get the starting QB job at Ohio State...hang tuff dude...they say, " South Beach Rocks "...Go Tate...Go Bucks
Remember when Tate threw down the gauntlet and said he'd win the job? LOL
Bye Felicia, enjoy mediocrity.
Class of 2010.
Jalen Hurts QB coach from Bama is now at Miami and he visited Miami over the weekend.
Really sad to see this kid leave Ohio State - but for an unknown reason, the relationship soured, and soured quickly. I wish him well at the U and hope he rips it up!
The best thing about Pastafarianism? It is not only acceptable, but advisable, to be heavily sauced
Unless he turns out to be the second coming of Doug Flutie or Kyler Murray, which seems unlikely, this is not a significant loss (Burrow was a significant loss). I have no animosity about the tweets etc. , after all he is a kid, but it seems to me he got bad advice or no advice. First, he should have waited to see whether Fields would be eligible (unless he had determined Baldwin would also beat him out). After all, he probably won’t be eligible at another school this year in any event. Second, Miami appears to have 3 scholarship QBs already and while Miami has been inconsistent for a number of years now, there is always talent there, much like the situation at USC. Thus, I see little guarantee he ever starts or remains a starter for the U. There had to be better options with much more certain playing time and this decision seems to me to be knee jerk based on HS teammates and sunshine. As much as I liked Urban’s recruiting and organization and ability to motivate, I am glad we won’t be recruiting 5’10 “ run first QBs in the coming years irrespective of their HS stats (which to some degree were enhanced by playing on a team withich apparently surrounded Martel with a lot of D1/D2 kids at other positions).
I wish Tate all the best in Miami (except for if they play the Buckeyes of course). I know he's done some dumb things with the tweeting and all that stuff, but at the end of the day unless he decides to start trashing OSU, I understand his dilemma and have no problem with him seeking an opportunity to play elsewhere.
Why is he getting such a hard time but Burrow was beloved for essentially doing the same thing? Genuinely curious, not trolling. I mean Im going to root for Tate to win job and do well.
Because Burrow competed for the job and never complained about anything. Rumors are Martell started to talk about transferring before last season and then started talking trash when Fields looked to be coming here about how he was gonna stay and win the job...then a week later he leaves.
ahh roger that, I wasn't aware he was being a douche about lol, thanks man
No Problem. I'll add this from Alex Gleitman.
-Ohio State has had to “re-recruit” Tate to stay with the program. I’ve heard it happened once following Tate’s freshman year by Urban, although I’m not 100% how dire the situation was or if it was standard conversation following a season. I do know Ryan Day had to have a sit down with him this year following the regular season, when all the Fields stuff started to get floated. I’ve heard he even flew to Vegas over the “holiday break” to do so, although I can’t confirm that. I’ve heard a couple different things, but the bottom line is Tate went from feeling it would either be “his job to lose” or an “open competition” to feeling he was not going to be given a fair shake at the job or that it was Fields’ job to lose. Something I have heard, and again have not been able to confirm 100%, is that Day maintained it would be an open competition with every QB on the roster having an equal shot, and that the Martell camp felt that it was suggested that it would be Tate’s to lose, or that it should be that way. Thus, the change of heart.
Did Burrow act like a punk on social media-no, he did not. There's your answer in a nutshell.
Well, good luck to Tate. I hope he does well
In the words of Kendrick Lamar...

The new Gunner Kiel? Been committed or enrolled at Washington->Texas AM->tOSU-Miami
It's too bad what happened w/ Kiel and his substance issues-which stemmed from football injuries. Dude could straight sling it at UC.
for real man I was at the cinci game in 14, dude was killing our secondary with some good throws.
Best of luck to Tate. I know I'll be watching to see how he does.
best of luck to tate. any word on who we'd fill his position with?
One of the saddest features of fan boards is how quickly love turns to hate.
Wahoo! Wahoo! Rip, Zip, Bazoo! I Yell. I Yell. For O.S.U.
Naw...leave like Burrow did and it is all good.
Troll your teammates, make statements you can't back up, expect to be handed the job and when it isn't you quit...then yeah you are going to suffer some backlash. Tate created this whole thing because he wanted Day to name him QB1 immediately after the Rose Bowl. When Day brought in Fields (which any school would do) Tate and his family got their entitled feelings hurt and ran away.
Tate didn't want none of this smoke. Expecting his daddy to secure his position. He is a quitter.
Good luck to the Tater
I am in the camp that Day had a conversation with him and Tate made a decision based on that. No way would Day send him packing especially with the QB depth being what it is, but probably was honest with him. Fields or no Fields we had to get another QB after we lost Mathis. If Fields was not the one I believe it would have been Jalen Hurts who could have played tomorrow if needed.
Well, they have milder winters down there I hear.
Onward and upward! Go Buckeyes!
Perfect landing spot, I always saw him as a good fit for a place like Miami.
May I just say for myself, that I'm having a hard time adjusting to the changes in big time cfb. For an gen-gap reference, Peter Gabriel was big in my day.
People are always looking for better opportunities. Why not just wish him well?
I know this may not be particularly classy-sounding, but I never liked this kid. He always struck me as Johnny Manziel v. 2.0, only with less talent than the original. I was hoping that maturity would have tamed the raging ego and massive sense of entitlement over time, but it appears that hope may have been in vain. Don't get me wrong: I don't blame the kid for doing what is in his best interest here, but don't go out the door burning every bridge in sight and making a selfish spectacle out of yourself. It's only a matter of time before we see the tell-all interview with Brett McMurphy.
... but Manziel?
I truly wish him the best of luck and hope he's happy. Seems like a dream to play with the guys you won all those games with in HS.
I respect his decision to transfer, but the way he handled things were horrible. I hope he learns from this.
Absolutely. Good for him that he can go and play ball with his high school buddies at the U. We’ll keep the other buddy who is the real deal and has played a good number of reps his freshman and sophomore seasons in Columbus. Haskell Garret. The day will come soon when Haskel can let them know what NFL life is like.
See ya later little Tater!
Hope he does well. I don't see any reason to trash a kid leaving the program you like to get a better shot at playing time. A couple of stupid tweets not anything to hate about. Also don't care about what anyone in his family did, you can't pick your family. As an OSU fan, I hope he does well, like Burrow, and keep showing HS QBs that even if they don't start for OSU if they transfer they will have learned a lot that will help them at the next school.
Even if Miami does not work out, Tate can still fall back on his Geico commercials for a living.
He's Tathan his talents to South Beach
I'm disappointed Tate didn't try to compete for the starting role through spring ball, but I can't make any judgements, because I don't know what may or may not have been said behind closed doors to him by Day. Unlike some people, I realize these guys are just 20 year olds, and as a 20 something myself; we don't always handle things the most mature and professional way. Good luck to him going forward in any game where he isn't playing tOSU.
Character - relatively easy to repair.
Integrity - not so much.
Good luck getting people to believe you when you say "serious" things in your near future.
Here's the deal. If he was confident about the QB he was - then we have a clear answer about what kind of QB he thinks he is. He thinks he cannot compete with the likes of Fields and he left. End of Story....
So SICK of the whole Tater Tot thing. I don't get the big deal. He left per his choice. Has NO EFFECT on my life. GOOD LUCK and GOODBYE. What purpose or goal does it accomplish to rag on a 20 yo ? I say...NOTHING
Hey Martell.... want to know a little bit about humility and maturity? Read this........ https://www.theplayerstribune.com/en-us/articles/jalen-hurts-thank-you-a...
Hope this ok to share here!!
Good share. Joe Burrow and Danny Clark as well exited with class.
When this whole situation involving Fields and Tate started, my first thought was here we go again, another Burrow thing whereby we recruit a highly rated kid, who could have gone elsewhere and played, only to find himself not getting the opportunity to play after waiting several years for his chance to shine. But things quickly changed in comparisons between Joe and Tate. Joe didn’t make bold statements about how he would be the starting QB or insinuate that the others trying out were wasting their time, he just tried out during spring practice until deciding to explore other options. Some would say that based on a conversation he and Urban had, he decided it was in his best interest to look at other options. And he did it with class. On the other hand, Tate basically predicted the job was his and Fields was wasting his time in coming to Ohio State. He also stated he would not transfer regardless of the outcome. Then out of the blue, he is in the portal and then transferred. Now I get it that Tate has a lot of confidence in his abilities as well as a lot of swagger, but he does himself, and his image, no favor. You become known as someone who is all talk and full of bluster. And that is unfortunate as I do believe Tate has the ability to be an excellent QB. But before that happens, he needs put his words into action on the field. Secondly he needs to let his mother know that he is an adult male capable of handling this situation on his own and not tied to the umbilical chord. Now I am not being critical of her as we all know Moma Bears claws come out when one of the cubs, in her eyes, is not being treated correctly. But again he has to quiet her. There are those on here who will support him going forward and those who will despise him for not sticking around and for how he handled the whole thing. But in the end, here is a young kid who had hopes and dreams of playing for the Buckeyes only to realize that dream wasn’t going to happen. So he does what he thinks is in his best interest, transfers to where he feels he stands a better chance of playing. Only time will tell. If he makes this transition low keyed and professional, then he will have Buckeye supporters wishing him well, just as they did, and will do, for Burrow. But, if in his attempt to get a waiver allowing him to play right away, he makes this ugly and nasty, then he will be despised forever in Ohio history. I wish him well and can find myself supporting him, unless he slanders anyone, or any part of, The Ohio State University. Will the real Tate please step forward.
Would have been in his corner if he simply left without throwing shady. Would have pulled for him and Miami if he competed and showed backbone. I haven't seen players react or reach out to a "brother" like they did Joe B. He has character issues and will fit nicely at Miami. Go Bucks!
Good luck to him. But damn, hes a diva full of entitlement. Everyone still loves Joe Burrow and celebrates his wins at LSU. Why? Because he's a class act and did it the right way. Martell apparently cant handle the situation without it being a dumpster fire.
